I have just got my hands on a Galaxy Ace S5830 It will be my spare /temporary phone for a while so I thought I would have a play with it So far it's a great little phone.
It was on the standard rom but I am greedy and I now have ROOT + CWM 5.0.2.6. and then upgraded to Kitkat For All [CWM.5.x] CM 11, Omni & Omega by Salim PS earlier today and it's much nicer than the stock stuff.
The only problem I am having is the totally crap internal storage limitation Is there anything that can be done to increase it? Once I install a few apps I am totally out of internal storage space Which is no fun at all...
I have had a look around but i really don't know what I am looking for Can you help...

You need a rom that uses a Kernel with swap support and you need to partition your sd with CWM (advanced settings). No cm11 kernel has swap support and link2sd don't work either. Some Cm 10.1 and below do. I just suggested to another member who was after a good rom to use this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2599760 Use S2 touchwizz style with cronmod. Partition your sd first. Instructions are probably on here for that but i just followed this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U_Sp_BtzrM
I think all the reading I've recently done regarding up/downgrading the ace's software has fried my brain, So I had a couple of days off and just enjoyed using a new phone.
Anyway I can't believe how simple that was Thank you very much, I put in an 8GB SD and set my SD ext to 1GB and all is well, Running nicely too with that rom.

Well i never knew that! I had the PSN cm7.2 + 9 ics + 10.1 jb swapall scripts as zip's but i couldn't find one for cm11. The only thing that put me off the 4.4.4 KK rom was not having swap. Damn i wish my phone was working now I hope the jig works

Is your friend running stock ROM?
Go to Settings > SD card and Storage and see what it says for free internal memory. I remember getting that message when mine was under 15 MB. I had too many apps on internal memory. I switched to a ROM that had apps2sd and now I have 100+ MB Free.

Sweet! His phone isn't rooted yet but I'm good with knowing how to root phones. What ROM has that apps2sd app thou? I have a samsung fascinate soo I don't know much about the hero lol. And its a stock ROM rom btw
1sT GeAr, U MaD??
Almost all ROMs now have apps2sd integrated.
If your friend wants to stay "stock" with the Sense UI, anything by nfinitefx45 is quality. He just released a ROM based on the newest Sprint release this morning! Check it out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849024
If you want something completely new, froyo AOSP, check out CyanogenMod 6.1 RC1.. it's perfectly stable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755795
With both you'll get a lot more internal memory than stock ROM. If you still want A2SD, it's built in nfinitefx45's, and if you want it for CM6 then just run the easy froyo a2sdext in my signature. Just partition the SD card to ext2 and then upgrade from ext2 to ext3 before installing nfinitefx and it will work automatically. If using with CM6, partition anytime before running the script.

low memory
Low memory can slow down the phone... lag the hell out of it if there is no room for "working" memory. You won't be able to view photos or listen to musice if you have too much on your phone. Been there done that flashed on cm6 no problems since.
Hi Devs,
Can anyone answer the question, Is it possible to dual boot i9000 with different custom Roms?
it is possible and is under development, but has not been completed yet, as im sure you can understand how difficult it must be.
I don't think I would be game enough to try that..
Good question

Very Possible (i think)
Galaxy S is a kind of mini compact compute,
using the bootloader, using two kernels side by side on the phone.
as logical question , this my logical answer.
i think by this year, smart developers will reach that point instead of focusing on thems ,app and wallpapers.
this is intresting
thanks

That bootloader thing isn't as easy as you might think
And you have to figure out how to partition the phone because two roms mean two /system and, as far as I know, the space is lean as it is now.
It should be possible but I don't want to be the guy who does it (although I would respect that man (or woman) a great deal)
Well multi boots require separate partitions plus a multi boot loader. Quite an ask for a phone. in theory possible, but sounds pretty difficult to me.
Sent from my GTI9000 using XDA App, gingerbread 2.2.3 jvk rooted, ADW launcher + gingerbread theme
whilst its not really dual boot you could use CWM to make backups and restore the different roms if you want to regularly switch? not what you are asking I know but a work around perhaps.
i would be happy for an app that runs a system of the sd card, kinda like how they used to run android on the HD2. Click the app and it would boot android restart and it boots back to winmo coz thats whats on the NAND .
This would good for people that want to test a ROM, mod it, theme it without flashing the orgional ROM. A Virtual machine if you will

hey guy i have think about what you said if dev can develope multi loader like computer that can we have both winphone 7 with android or maemo with bada or meego with ios! that sounds good and i think we can do that cause we have three diffrent storage in galaxy s. that have 2 gig rom that we have used it for android by now and we make it lagfix and change it from rfs to ext. another storage is internal nand that is 8 or 16 gig that we can use for further os like ios. and at last for blue tooth or else we can use external sd storage up to 32 gig i think galaxy s is more up than n900 or hd2 so we can nand and port real os on it!
BootManager - ROM multiboot
Hello, someone knows if this app works on galaxy s i9000?, I have a version of this device sold exclusively here in Brazil it is called I9000B, the only difference for the I9000, is that my tv is digital!
I wud love to hav dual boot - Android n WP7 (like HTC HD2), but having 2 android OS doesnt make any sense!
Actually does so, this way we can enjoy two different roms at the same time, can have the best of two worlds!
No updates? I thought we could just have an entry in the recovery mod which backs up the old kernel, flashes a new kernel, maybe modded to mount the /system and /data filesystems from sdcard images (system.img & data.img), replaces init.rc to avoid problematic mounts, and then boots the other rom. then, to reboot in the original rom, enter recovery and select the default one. I just want to know what are the problems we could find with this method. I can help, if someone is interested in doing this. I'm not a dev, but I can prepare images, edit init.rc, and if you give me the source I may be able to edit the recovery. I really want dual boot on my i9000, to test roms without wipes and backups, to have choice, to have a recovery rom in case something goes wrong with the default one and I'm not at home. For instance, it happened to me, that sometimes I couldn't listen to music when I was on the bus, due to roms' problems. I wish I could boot an emergency rom in cases like that.

Hey, have a look in the cm10 dev-thread! It has been discussed for very long now. Due to performance reasons pawitp swapped the layout of the two NAND-chips in our SGS. (System partition: 1,8GB - Data-partition: 488MB)
This was pretty clever, because people with an old SGS (slower oneNAND) have a much better performance of cm10 now, so i think it never gets reverted!
If you want the old partition layout back, look for other cm10 roms out there. There are some with the old /datadata-trick that worked pretty well in cm9.
If you want to stay at cm10 and use pawitp's new partition layout for a faster experience, you should move large apps to SD-Card
Hope this helped, Cheers

Go to Settings/Apps, there you can move apps to SD, if the developer of the app enabled it. Just click on a fat app and look for the "move to SD" button or similar
There is also an app at the playstore that's called App2SD. It lets you move your apps in a more comfortable way. :good:
Cheers

I'd post this in the devel section, but my post count isn't high enough, so it'll have to go here instead.
Finally I have a version of CWM that enables saving to the external SD (why didn't it have this feature from day one?). The only problem is it seems to be a bit confused about what's internal and what's external. The "save to / restore from internal SD" function actually points to the external SD, and the only other choice is simply labelled "SD", and that's the one that points to the internal SD. This is very confusing, but at least I can finally do a Nandroid backup (not enough space left on my pathetic 8GB internal SD).
This leads me to my other point: is there any way for me to switch from CWM to TWRP but keep this ROM, i.e. is there an X-Bean compatible Semaphore kernel with TWRP?
Apart from that, X-Bean is perfect.

I am not sure whether the TWRP works with semaphore or not.
But yes you can use devil kernel to have the twrp in place and switching from cwm to twrp dont need any changes in the rom.
Only problem is Devil doesn't have cifs and tun modules AFAIK, which I need.

Couple days ago i root my phone and install x-bean 3.0 to it.

ty for u all. im noob i know.
sorry but some questions...
As a "novice" regusterted user, I have noted that there are some 'unanswered' questions related to flashing ROMs...
So, please excuse my portential silly quotes, but as an IT specialist, I have to ask them:
- Why is there so much difference to flash a ROM from a stock one to something *new* instead of flashing from another ROM which is already
a new and tweaked one?
- Does the formatting from CWM do what it is suppposed to do? (wiping all the old stuff forever)?
- It it is not so, and as far as I see there are a lot of problems, why is no-one mentioning that there are soem 'registers' in the ROM which
are beiing read by new ROM and/or kernels?
My personal experience is that most of the ROMs for GT.I9000 on Jelly Bean are working much more reliable than most installers have their
opinion in all the questions asked, just because they are not using the device for a prolonged time...
After using RC 12.1 from elitemovil with kerne 2.06 for three weeks now, a lot of problems just 'wanished'. I can now use the gallery without problems (and there were a lot of missing photos and clips), and the battery usage is now very good, a lot of thing are now much better than at the beginning...
All of this is telling me of a potential subject which is not spoken about, and this could be soem *register* data which does to be changed for the new ROM and perhaps the kernel to be filled out so that all the new things and features work as expected?
As this is my first post Comments from experienced users/developers are welcome!

Hi
I want to buy a refurbished Nexus One to install Android 4.0 or 4.1 on it. and this will be my first android phone
But I'm worried about it's little ROM !just 512MB
How much memory will be available after installing 4.0 for apps ?
Can I install apps on SD memory card completely or they will use some of ROM memory too ?
Does installing 4.0 courses my apps and games run slower than before ?
Thsnks a lot
if u need to run anything beyond 2.3 then u need to install BLACKROSE (a custom bootloader) and change the hboot partitions.
and yes u need to partition ur sd card and apps should be placed in sd ext, which might be lil slower

yes you can. you need to create ext partition first. provided your rom/kernel supports it(which every rom/kernel does)
yes you can do this wid gb roms too.
u need a fast sd (class 6 or above) for apps n games to load faster
