Hi guys,
I need your help choosing a case from the above mentioned.
To be honest, I've already purchased the Defender, but that's because I didn't see the Commuter in the shop
I spoke with the seller and he told me that there is no problem switching between the models.
On one hand, I am looking for a good protection, after my first Galaxy Note was tragically crashed.
On the aecond hand, the Note 2 with the Defender is f****** HUGH!
What would you recommend me to do? Staying with the Defender or switching to the Commuter?
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Boris

I have the Defender (been using it for several days), switching to Commuter bc Defender is wayyy too damn big and Commuter should give me the best of both worlds; protection and not bulky. My mom has a Commuter and I should have just gone with my gut and got the Commuter in the first place.
Is there such a big difference? And should the Commuter protect against any big falls from one meter height?

Yes the Defender doubles the size of the phone while the Commuter prob adds like 1/2 that , yes the Commuter should be able to protect it from that distance. What I am going to do when I get it is put on a screen protector bc thats the only thing I'd be worried about even with the raised edges.
OK! Thank you very much for yor help.
Are there any other opinions or recommendations? I really would like to hear some other's opinions. (I hope I don't hurt your feelings ).
This is very important for me!
Thanks!

Not at all, it also depends on your lifestyle and how much protection you need for the phone. Some ppl will need the Defender due to their job or if they have kids that play with their phones etc just keep that in mind.
My defender will be here Monday, so personally can't really give much input but I've always loved the defender series, and I kinda need that extra protection. It it all depends on your needs. Also if you want a holster the commuter doesn't have one, which is also the big seller on the defender for me

the belt clip, can also be used as a face shield/stand too alt not super great in the later
They both great cases. I personally like the defender case if offers better protection. I also like the feel of silicone on the outside rather than slippery plastic like the commuter. Sure it has some silicone on the sides but its just not enough for me. I also like having a belt clip, which I use as a kickstand and I also use it to mount my phone on the Sun Visor of my car.

Do you even have the case? It def makes it twice as thick (maybe you thought I meant overall like wide?)

Is it just my XDA app, or do those images look extremely small?
Photo bucket images are usually large.

I have the defender and used it for about a week. I took it off when I had to pull the battery and couldn't put it back on! I love the protection the defender provides but it really does an injustice to the beauty of our phone and further more is cumbersome to handle. I went and compared it to the commuter case and found the commuter is not that much smaller. (Notice photo a few posts back). So for the high cost of the case I decided to send it back. Maybe when the prices drop I'll pick one up again.
I have also had the sedio surface and took that back. Too slippery and didn't care for the hump created by the kickstand.
What I would really like to see in an ideal world is otterbox and tech 21 team up. Tech 21's D30 technology with a slim otterbox case. Tech 21 does make a case for our phone that is actually a decent case except for the lack of protection on the top and bottom (where every phone I have ever had hits the ground).
I have been searching for the perfect case for so long and honestly am getting fed up with the lack of innovation.....otterbox defender is up to $60 depending where you buy it! Without any enhancements to the technology to give the same protection in a slimmer package. Its time companies start putting money back into the products they design. Bring us solid protection in a slim package!

Surly you are talking about i$hone development... Not Samsung? I too am waiting... An otterbox commuter case with a built in kickstand that sits flush with the back of the case would be perfect. Was using the seidio active but just got the commuter.

Hey guys,
Just got my Bionic and was wondering what you thought about cases.
Mainly the Otterbox Defender and Commuter. which do you like better? my problem with the Defender is the plastic bit covering the entire screen, i'd rather a regular screen protector. Can it be removed?
Any advice is appreciated, thanks!
I just got my Commuter.
It's pretty damn awesome. It is slightly larger, but is worth the protection.
I saw the defender, it's really just too big.
The Commuter's screen protector (separate that you apply) only covers the middle of the screen, not including the buttons. It feels slightly strange to swipe down the notification bar for that reason.
I just returned the Commuter. The DB is already a big phone, and either of those two cases really just add to the bulk of it. I'm going to use the phone naked for a while until some minimalist cases hit the market.
I can't believe they have the Defender available the same week the phone is released. Took them over a month to have it for the Charge. I was raging when I saw the Bionic Defender case in my news feed.
/endrant
I think the commuter is absolutely perfect, coming from someone who wore the Droid 3 naked and ended up with a spider Web screen from dropping it. + 1 otterbox for getting this case out so fast and radio shack for the 25% off!

I'm extremely pleased with my Commuter case. It actually makes the phone feel higher quality, which I didn't believe possible. The included screen protector was cheap IMO, so I'll be looking for a replacement.

I love my Otterbox defender. It took some getting used to the bulk, but the protection is superior to any others, imo. Protection & functionality over sex appeal. This case isn't for everyone, YMMV.
Cut up a defender this morning to fit the extended battery and love it. I used to always break my phone at least once or twice during my contract due to dropping it. I am extremely clumsy and get the dropsies a lot. Since I started using otterbox cases 4 phones ago I have never had a problem with a dropped phone breaking, and i drop mine a lot. They just bounce now. LoL thank you otterbox. XD ill happily deal with the added bulk for the protection

What or how did you do this? Pics?
I have a defender too but would like to use it the extended battery.
I got the defender and I got used to it although its huge. When im out and about or at work i keep it on but once you snap it on and off a few times it becomes easier so I take it off while Im at home and it makes me appreciate the design a lot more. You really do get used to it and I'm saying this coming from Eris and Nexus S without cases. The only thing Im not really pleased by is the full screen protection as mentioned already. You could definitely remove it if you wanted to. having the extra inset of the defender plus a regular screen protector is definitely enough to keep Spidey from webbing your Bionic.

I got the idea off someone who did this on MDW. Used a dremel cutting wheel, a dremel grinding wheel, and an exacto knife.
I traced a rough pattern of where I wanted to cut the stock battery case, so the electronics would be covered. Left me with this after a few cuts and lots of grinding to fit the corners.
Ill warn you it is not pretty and i make a horrible craftsman. But the rubber covers all ;-)

Then I took the back cover to the otterbox and did the same thing. Once again not skilled craftsman quality. But if you do it good enough the rubber covers all and you can barely feel it has been cut
With the case on the back you can't see anything. But if you run your finger over the back you can feel a slight groove. I did the initial cuts with the cutting wheel. Then used the grinding wheel to make out more space where needed and round out sharp edges. Exacto knife was used to clean up the stuff the wheel couldn't do well.
The guy on MDW made the otterbox case bevel in near the batter to hold it in place. Mine is holding fine as is with. But I guess it is all how you cut it and where. Make sure to rinse the part off with water or use condensed air to clean the cut part between fittings. LOTS of plastic and rubber dust in the air while doing this. Don't want it getting into the phone.

Hi All,
I just got this case in the interim until I get the otterbox defender. I had it fedex overnight because I usually put my phone in my pocket. It reminds me of the otterbox commuter but not bulky and its in a silver Aluminum finish with a good feel and not a fingerprint magnet. Not slippery. Tactile buttons are responsive without any problems. Very well built dual protection case. Access ports are not covered.

Yeah the problem was that the Otterbox Defender wasn't available but all these other cases were so I had to go thru looking for a case that would fit in my pocket. The cheap tpu cases didn't instill confidence when I put it in my pocket and the Speck Candy shell case was a little better but it's rubber gray material frays when you put it in your pants. It also was more rigid than the tpu cases but I still was worried about it not being rigid enough. This case however is different and the hard shell is really rigid. No worries about putting this in my pants. The hard material is very solid and a very nice feel. Oh well still waiting for the otterbox but this will do until it gets here. Otterbox using Fedex smartpost sucks! I'm praying it gets here and not lost in the usps christmas frazzle. lol.
This one actually looks very nice. Interesting..
Wow, looks nice and sleek.
I see a seller in ebay has it for about $24.95.
Let me know how you like it when the Otterbox comes since this looks much thinner and easier to pocket.
Nice!..the color blends well with the white note 2..any other colors?..found some pink/white on ebay..

Finally stumbled across this case after searching for three days or so for a case for my incoming Note 2.
I just ordered it off ebay and had to cancel my other case I had ordered from Amazon. I figure the extra $8 will be well spent, and I really like the aesthetics of it. No kickstand is a positive for me.

How the sides hold up to pressure, around the outside of the screen? I noticed theres no support from the hard shell to stop the silicone lip from being pushed back from the screen. Ordered one, will just have to see I guess

Because the outer shell is very rigid there is very little play to move the silicone lip. You have to force it hard to move. This is not a case for changing batteries. I'm actually scared to pull the phone out of the case. I had the otterbox commuter for my old Galaxy Note i717 and the material for the outer shell of that case is less rigid than this case. my 2 cents.

Thats too bad, I have to do battery pulls occasionally (especially now that the power button long press doesnt reboot) and I usually depend on dual layer being fairly easy to remove. Right now the Aegis case I have feels like its bad to remove and replace frequently - which is good I guess in general just cus its snug, but bad of you need to remove the battery once or twice a day

Just got this case in last night and it is a great case no doubt, beautiful, not bulky, and offering decent protection, but holy cow is it tight and both hard to put on and remove. It's a concern for me, as I need to change the SIM when traveling.

More pictures of this case in my short review HERE
It's a cheap case that will protect your phone, but the quality of inner silicone shell is not that great. It's too stretchy and will pull around the sides, and it gets worth with time especially at the bottom where micro-usb connector is. Also because silicone is soft, buttons will be too easy to press accidentally. But what the heck, for this price - its a workable Seidio Active knock-off with a kickstand that won't make your phone as wobbly in landscape as Active Plus, you can put your finger through the kickstand opening as sort of a flygrip handle.
The best case ever. No extra bulk and feels good to the touch, a hard case but with a soft touch feel, comes with a kickstand too. Bought one for the wife's too. I usually dont use cases but this one is a keeper . Go try it edit- Comes with a belt clip too

originally bought 2 cheap case/holsters one of which is the cheap 3 part listed in the OP. First one broke, second(OP) as noted the soft rubber part doesn't fit well and it's too tight in the holster. Finally broke down today ad bought this one from BB. There is no comparison in quality, Everything on this case is worth the money.
For my past phones I've bought the Verizon kickstand holster case combos and I've loved them, but VZW didn't make one for the note2 and the cheap online ripoffs are crap. Spend the money, your Note 2 will thank you.
Got this one for $6 shipped on amazon, cut the volume side out to work with my OEM flip cover.

More pics in the post a pic of your case thread, and mybat jolt thread. Kickstand hinge and latch is a tad flimsy but I haven't had any issues yet, and I dropped my phone 42' from the 3rd floor roof of a house, landed face down on gnarly concrete and not a scratch. Luckily the flip cover flipped closed or the uneven concrete probably would have been able to make contact with the glass, which would have been a disaster.

originally bought 2 cheap case/holsters one of which is the cheap 3 part listed in the OP.

I must agree with you. The belt holster has to be my most favorite part of it. High quality case. Very sturdy and makes me look like a fly kinda guy..

You guys should check out a full review of Seidio CONVERT combo I just posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2177450
It essentially Seidio SURFACE/BB Platinum with an extra layer of protection on top of it. Turn your original SURFACE into a new rugged case. But as a side comment, Surface is PITA to take off the phone lol!!!

I was moseying around and saw these were now available for sale. Everyone's been waiting. Glad they are ready! They look awesome.
The whole inventory wasn't available yet, but it shows the TPU's are in stock and about half of the Ultra Completes.

You didn't hear? They add 20% to your battery life!

Kidding aside, those are supposed to be of a very high quality material and fitment. The guy behind these (Scott) put a lot of time and effort into research to make a perfect case with a slim fitment and drop protection. Based on reputation of their S3 cases this should be a good one as well. Will know more for sure once I have a chance to review it.

Looks like a good case. Best thing about it is the color combinations. Other than that it doesn't look like it's much better than other tpu cases like from cruzerlite.
I just ordered some of these cases and will post photos as soon as I get the cases.

Thanks for your great observation. I think you missed that it's a 2 piece case.
The Ultra has a hard outer shell made of polycarbonate and some other voodoo. This outer shell offers far superior protection than just TPU alone.
If my girlfriend's S3 survived multiple drops on concrete, I'd say it's much more durable than just TPU.

Just my opinion. I see that it's a two piece case. I've dropped my phone with a tpu case on concrete. Never had any damage.
Anyway good luck with these.

That's cause you are in NYC and you guys got smoother concrete. Here in Jersey we got swiss cheese potholes lol!!
But in all seriousness, you guys know I reviewed a ton of accessories on this forum. Also, I heard a healthy buzz about these cases for a few months now. Obviously that got my interest considering Scott has posted in this forum before in great details about process of his material selection, fitment testing, and all other stuff that goes along with it. I also heard a lot of work went into packaging details as well. That got my curiosity for sure. Once I receive it, I will do my usual detailed review and give you my honest opinion about it.
The polycarb he uses is actually flexible. It disperses the shock better. You can actually fold rhe PC part in half without cracking it. It's not standard PC I forget what its technical name is but it's very close in chemical make up to the PC they use in fighter jet cockpits. It's almost like a polycarbonfiber instead of carbonate. The fit is also very nice for the price. Theres no play in the case when it's installed and the tpu acts as a shock absorber between the PC and device. They have the fit and slimness of just a plain tpu but the protection of an otterbox defender minus the built in SP.

My girlfriend loves to drop her phone. The hard shell is the stuff in **** pits like you said and also in bullet proof glass / plastic.
I took the shell from the one my girlfriend dropped and I flexed it. Let's just say it didn't just break like other cases. I gave it a bit of a work out.

Yeah its supposed to be super durable. I've snapped plenty of cheap PC cases just trying to pull em off when they're really tight and a piece snaps right off

For those that have ordered, I'm curious what color your phone is and what DBA combination did you get?
I have not ordered as of yet but am considering getting a white and blue set up for my white Note 2. I prefer a blue tpu with white polycarbonate piece but don't see the blue tpu on the website.

What I hate most about a lot of tpu cases is the flimsy sides, is this one of those? Urban armor gear did it right, they made the top and bottom part so thick that it feels solid.

In my opinion the sides of the tpu are very thick and ridged. It doesn't have the sides that will pull away from the phone. I will have cases on 5-3 and will post photos then.

I ordered black and blue...was the most manly color in my opinion...I heard from Scott that it looks awesome...and also black on black so I might order a black poly when it comes available... Also the tpu is not flimsy at all...I got my fiancé one for her iPhone and the thing is top notch...Scott chooses the best materials for his products there is no need to worry about ordering his stuff

I'm going to order the Black/Red Complete and an extra White PC once they finally come in stock. So excited to finally have this on my phone!!
The case doesn't have the flimsy crap sides that bow out. The ones I've had for our S3's have been solid all the way through.
Still trying to justify the $27...Hopefully there will be some reviews for it soon.

Hey Guys,
I have decided to just jump the gun and buy the Tech 21 D3O impact shell from the T-Mobile store. The case ended up be $10 and something cents. I bought it at the store and they gave me a 30% discount for checking into Foursquare otherwise the price of the case is $16.99 not including tax. The case can be purchased online at: http://www.t-mobile.com/accessories/lg-g2-d3o-impact-shell-smoke.html.
I currently own 2 cases including the case I have. I have this case and the Spigen Slim Armour. I love both of the cases but I do prefer this Tech 21 case. Both cases are well built and will definitely survive a fall. I have not dropped the case, but I feel like the technology behind the case will definitely protect it from a fall. I currently have the xtremeguard screen protector on the phone and the case does push the screen protector up, but the lip of the case covers more of the screen than the Spigen case so it doesn't have the problem as often. The case has an awesome feel to it. It has a matte feel and offers more grip that the Spigen. The case is also rounded so it doesn't feel like it is cutting into your hand. I personally bought the smoke version, but there is a purple version available. The case looks awesome with the orange bands going around the circumferance of the phone while the rest of the smoke color of the case allows you to see through the back to see the G2 symbol. I do own the AT&T D800 version and it has the cut out for the 2nd microphone on the back. The case feels like TPU with D3O that surround the phone.
Hopefully this everyone. If you are looking for a new case, IMHO this is a case to consider.
Here are the pictures that I was going to post.

Thanks for the review. I have thought about this case. How would you compare it to a tpu case. Looks like one except for the orange band which seems to be the D30 technology.
Also how thick and bulky is it in comparison to a tpu case.

It honestly feels like a TPU case with the D3O tech like you were saying. I don't own a TPU case for the G2 but I have had TPU cases in the past and this stuff feels a little more flexible but it still maintains its shape when it is on the phone. The case fits nicely and it looks good as well. The case actually doesn't add too much bulk. It keeps the shape of the phone and is slightly thicker than without a case. I feel like it is definitely not as "bulky" as the Spigen case as well. :good:

I also had the Spigen Slim Armour as my first case for the G2. But I also got the Tech 21 case, and although I still like the Slim Armour case, the Tech 21 is better for me as the edges are more rounded and it's a little less bulky than the Slim Armour.
I keep my college ID card in the back of my current phone case, so I like cases that are easy to take on and off. Is this one easy to take on and off?

The case is easy to take off. But you might run into the problem of the case not fitting properly. The case is pretty tight on the phone, so the case might not be happy with you. I can try it out and see if I can get a picture for you.

Here are the pictures. The case is a little funky after the id is put in. It is definitely not meant to be there but it could potentially work. I put my school id and it is the side and thickness of a credit card. Hopefully this and the pictures help.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. Could you tell me how easy it is to take the card in and out of the case? Does the case come off easily without being dangerously loose?

I would say that the case is a little harder to take off. The card is also pretty snug in there. The case also barely hangs on too. The case definitely adds space between the case and phone.

Ya. I know what you mean. I drove 30 mins to get mine. But I don't use it too often because it pushes my screen protector up. But I still use it every once in a while.
