CM10 support has come along well. I've been running a fairly stable CM10 build for about a week and I'm liking it so far. MUCH MUCH faster than the stock rom too (my phone scores faster than my friend's Galaxy Nexus in Quadrant).
Another quick question, Is installing a rom on this D3 as easy as it is on my own Dinc2. Or do I NEED a program such as safestrap or bootstrap?
you need safestrap

But it's very easy
Motofail will work to root stock GB, Safestrap is needed for ROMs and is pretty easy to install. See this video tutorial, its for the Bionic but Safestrap will look and work the same:

SafeStrap v3 is fantastic. Easy to use and works brilliantly - I've got 2 ROMs installed currently, will be making a 3rd slot in a few minutes. All works seamlessly!
I went to the video and it says you HAVE to have the ICS o.s. already installed for safestrap 3. I have root access with superuser and am on the stock phone with no rom installed. I believe its running 5.7.906. Unfortunately I dont know where to go from there on the D3. Hand me an Incredible 2 and I'll play all day haha. Can I just drag and drop an ICS rom to the SD with kernels and gapps on .906 like the Dinc2 or do I need to have safestrap to begin flashing?
phone needs to be stock rom
video is for d4 and bionic
the d3 safestrap is installed on gingerbread

... and if you happen to prefer the Linux version of Motofail and if you happen to see the script stopping after "daemon started" and refusing to do anything else, you may want to go to your phone's notifications tray to switch the USB mode to "PC Mode" (instead of "Charge Only" or whatever people around here keep recommending) and then try the Motofail script again. That's the only way it worked for my D3 - "Mass Storage" and "Charge Only" would both make the script stop after "daemon started".
Or maybe it had something to do with my older(?) system version - "5.6.890.XT862.Verizon.en.US".

Looks like the Devs have been busy the last few days. Not only did we obtain root for the D3 we gained root for most of Motorola's phones. Now today we hear that the Droid 3 has a custom recovery, but that is not all. Since the D3 shares a lot of similarities with the Bionic not only did the D3 get a recovery but so did the Bionic! We will be gathering the method in which to install the new recovery on your prize possession soon so everyone can enjoy the benefits of ClockWork Recovery.
All credit for this working recovery goes to @Hashcode

It's a great day to be a Bionic owner! You seeing this Motorola???
Nice! Let the custom ROMs roll in
I see the picture, but I sure wish there was a link!
Does anyone know if RZR recovery works on any rooted droid? I used it on my OG Droid and it was awesome.

Awesome. Does this mean the bootloader is still locked, or is that still being worked?
I don't have the phone anymore, but my friend has a Bionic and it was the first phone he rooted. He's interested in the custom rom and CWM thing.

Should allow for at least custom roms to be built. The question is if this got the bootloader too ... otherwise the roms can customized but the kernel will be stuck on stock.
Still, it opens up a lot of options to improve the phone.
ROMs yes, bootloader, not quite yet. Still working on that one.
I can't wait until the CWM Recovery is released, shaking in my robot boots.
God damn do I have respect for these devs. The phone hasn't even been out for a week!

Hmm, well I just switched from a Droid x to bionic and the 2init was the thing that really got the party started so I'm definatly looking forward to that. Although the bootstrapper will be nice too, as I expect it will be finished before the 2init.

Someone way smarter than me can clarify, but my (remedial) understanding is that bootstrapper inserts code prior to a reboot, so that upon reboot a new set of instructions are run that take you to recovery.
I think 2nd-init is a different way to do the same thing, it just creates a 2nd set of instructions upon boot, but doesn't require an actual reboot to prompt the code.
That's what google taught me, but again, I read like 2 websites and didn't get it all.
I'm more of a light-stuff-on-fire kind of guy, than a developer.

Can I use this on a pre-release Bionic without worry? The only difference I have found between my pre-release Bionic and retail units is that mine has a slightly different baseband version.

Hey guys,
Here's just a ROM I have been messing around with called HighOnAndroid "Flyin' High" ROM for Galaxy Note 10.1 Wifi GT-N8013.
Since there's no ROM out now for Wifi versions, here's one you can try out.
It's pretty much based off stock ROM but I removed some bloatware (like Yahoo widgets) and put some features I wanted.
Features:
- GT-N8013 UEALH2 Base (Latest)
- Custom Boot Animation (put bootanimation.zip in /system/media directory with ES File Explorer (and enable Root Explorer/Mount in settings!)
- App2SD (You can read about it here)
- Jelly Bean Animations
- Init.d support
- Rooted/Superuser
- Deodexed/Zipaligned
- Only for those "Flyin' High"
Changelog:
v0.1 Deodexed, zipaligned, init.d support, jelly bean animations, custom boot animations, app2sd.
I am really working on my free time (and trust me I've got a million things to do), this is just something I do for fun. But I will try my best to update it at least once a week.
I do welcome any suggestions for features. Please keep them not "too wild", remember I don't have much time to really do a full ROM development here (Yes, I actually have a life and have to take kids to school like everyone else!) but little hacks here and there I can do.

Hi there . I have some questions.1) is this rom prerooted?
2) is safestrap needed to install this ? or can you just install from external sd card.?
3)does anything NOT work?
4) would you consider it a daily driver? or alpha or beta?

Well first off it is debloated, took away carrier symbol in the top left corner, runs 4.2 launcher, runs 4.1.2 gapps, zip aligns on boot, new boot animation, and more changes will come this is the BETA release. Still (in my opinion) good enough for a daily driver, but I WANT to make some more changes. Please people do not ask me how good my rom is, I made the thing, I'm probably a little bias.
thanks, but I guess I can't install it, 'cause of Safestrap needs a device with root access and I lost that access in the last update to JB

I really would like to try this rom, but it is currently unavailable, currently using minimoto and love it, but always looking for something new

uploaded a compressed zip (~181mb) and updated op link. enjoy
I think I am missing something...
Is this technically just a full blur ROM on a 2.3.6 base? I'm reading that carrier bloat is removed... But not understanding exactly what to expect with this one
Currently running latest Mini moto on my gf's Verizon D3 and she a little bit of a pain when I want to just flash and test something. Mini moto is working okay for her but has a few things that need a slight fix/adjustment. She's got 3 kids and doesn't like me to flash something that can't be what she's accustomed to for daily driver purposes... Albeit stock she was not happy with, I just need a little help in understanding what the benefits to this ROM are so I can convince her it will be an improvement and how.
Anybody who can shed some light.... It'd be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Does the lock screen just do a pattern unlock and not a slide then pattern unlock.
Sent from my DROID3 using xda app-developers app
default (screenshot) is a slide to unlock

this lock screen is same one, just what it looks like when you touch it

pattern unlock does not replace, you have to slide to unlock first, then pattern unlock
What are some of the other noticeable differences.... If you don't mind?
I hate the Verizon stock ROM lock screen... So that is a darn good start

Blank screen means the kernel doesn't support the display, so you must be running something other than the Verizon 5.7.906 as a base. I was surprised that the 5.7.906 kernel supports this 2.3.6 build, as it hasn't worked well with other 2.3.6 builds.
