9-11 Remembrance 2008

For This 2008 9-11 Remembrance day I chose to post a poem written by a fellow fire fighter to those who lost their lives. Please use this thread to post your views, ideas, and memories about those of 9-11 and please keep the flaming to a minmum.

He's the guy next door - a man's man with the memory of a little boy.
He has never gotten over the excitement of engines and sirens and danger.
He's a guy like you and me with wants and worries and unfulfillied dreams.
Yet he stands taller than most of us.
He puts it all on the line when the bell rings.
A fireman is at once the most fortunate and the least fortunate of men.
He's a gentle man because he has seen the awesome power of violence out of control.
He's responsive to a child's laughter because his arms have held too many small bodies that will never laugh again.
He's a man who appreciates the simple pleasures of life - hot coffee held in numb, unbending fingers - a warm bed for bone
and muscle compelled beyond feeling - the camaraderie for brave man - the divine peace and selfless serice of a job well
done in the name of all men.
He doesn't wear buttons or wave flags or shout obscenities.
When he marches, it is to honor a fallen comrade.
He doesn't preach the brotherhood of man.
He lives it.​

Who here celebrates Thanks giving?

As it´s a slow day in XDA I would like to know how many members around celebrate and how many don´t

Can you explain on what this day really is? I am not sure if we celebrate it here in India.

Thanksgiving day should be everyday...(I always give thanks for everyday that I'm alive and by living in this World..eventhough is a hard one and specially in my country...but always thankful )

I celebrate it.
My family normally gets together every month anyway, so that part isn't that big of a deal.
And my family is basically Irish Catholic, so everything tastes bland and flavorless.

Now everyone starting to get back from dinner, if not too drunk they will come and vote

It appears that the injunction won by Apple in the EU was nothing short of a farce. A trolling, if you will, using doctored images to claim their stake (yes, the "most valuable company" in the U.S. DOES stoop that low). Seriously, is Apple run by clowns? You file an injunction with the EU to stop distribution over all of Europe, and you use a picture that you have not checked for validity?

Are you working on Christmas Eve?

I'm sure most retail workers are, but what about office folks?
Our office is technically closed but a few of us are going in (time and 1/2) in the morning. If we didn't, (because our work is daily stuff), by Wednesday, we would have a mess on our hands!

I have to deliver presents to all the good children that day.

I'll be hard at work.
Keeping Sean from doing something stupid. Again.

Working Christmas Eve, Christmas day, Boxing day, New Years Eve and New Years day, 0700 - 1900.
No Christmas for me, and the gym will be closed which is a nightmare.

I always take the week between Christmas and New Year's off. And I am not working Christmas Eve. so I will be off starting the 21st and go back the 2nd!!
