Hello, I recently got myself a s3 LTE (australian version) and I know its supposed to have 2gb ram, however in the task manager, it lists total ram at 1.75GB. is this normal or is something wrong?
It is normal. The rest is inactive. Some kind of backup ram?
Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 2
the rest of the memory is shared for hardware to work properly. 1.75 gb is the user available memory
Thanks, was curious about this before work and was happy to come home to an answer =D
It probably only has 10.94g of storage even though they advertise 16.
Take it back and get an iphone.

HAAAAAAAA hahahah I lol'd so hard.
It is normal and it is the same for Korean version SHV-E210S
almost every phone has a little small storage or ram (or whatever) less than it says in the ads
I8150 Galaxy Wonder has 512MB ram in website of samsung
only 351MB ram is usable
If u open up a terminal and have busy box installed type free this shows the real amount available its actually just over 1.85 the rest is allocated to the android system or something

So, I got my 8 GB model maybe half an hour ago. I can already say that this is the fastest android device I've ever used and it easily destroys even the nexus 7 in terms of smoothness and speed. The haptic feedback is amazing too. I shall post some screenshots if someone tells me how!
Useable space is about 5.65 GB.
Useable RAM is crazy. I have like 1.6gb free all the time so far!

5.65, eh? I think that's enough free space to push me towards the 8GB model rather than the 16GB one. Thanks for the info.
Its about 5.4 after my apps and photos are on there.

Thanks for posting I also order a 8gb I should have it by tomorrow, i was kind of worry about storage space 5.4 GB left is not too bad in my opinion

can someone tell me how much RAM is used when the first time HTC ONE turned on without many application running. My HTC ONE X+ only have around 250 MB left of RAM when the first time the phone is turned on.
Please correct me if I wrong, but I think, this is due to HTC sense stuff that takes lots of memory to run. It makes me thinking twice before installing application especially the one that running on background due the the memory space is very little.
I don't own the One yet and cannot comment on exactly how much ram sense 5 uses, but One has 2gb ram so it means if sense 5 uses the same amount of ram as sense 4, it will leave you 1.25gb which is enough and good amount for app running and switching.

On my friends HTC One there is 1.5gb of free ram or so.
Just done a full reboot and mine is showing 1.1gb free memory.

From memory, go into settings then apps/applications and you should be able to swipe right which will then show you free ram I think.

Can everybody else check in the system monitor app weather your showing only 1.5gb of ram instead of 2gb?
Mine says 1.5gb too

HTC does that I think, they reserve a piece of the ram to run the system and don't show it.

It's the same on any device -a certain amount of the total RAM is unavailable to the OS and thus "hidden". For example, the One XL shows 660-760 (or something like that) total RAM, depending on the ROM you're running.
1.5GB

That's a lie. Every android phone does not say 1.5gb of ram. My android phone only says 350mb.

Since this thread is talking about ram, I'm wondering how well does the One handle multitasking? Can any One owner comment on this? My previous OneX pretty much couldn't handle any form of multitasking at all.

Your not getting it. My nexus 7 shows like 900, nexus 4 around 1.6. Previous phones says the same thing as having ram amounts shown less because it is dedicated to the phone.
It be cool if every android phone on this planet that said that right?

No multitasking to speak of. The 1.5GB available RAM is a stock.jpg that lies to the user.

I have also read that the GPU does not have dedicated RAM, so that it uses some of the 2gb. Then the operating system needs some RAM.
I just got mine from Rogers today (Canada)
Says 2G under system info
I always love my note but here the prob is not the phone specs. But the apps thats are getting bigger and bigger day by day. Just like PC times. Just because of that now some basic apps that are with me since the start if this phone are slowing down my phone.
I think there should be a basic version of all apps and then the fancy version.
Facebook, viber and other apps are now taking like 80 mb each. Where as they were just about 8 to 10 mbs in ginger bread. I guess its time for me to put this note in my drawer and get a nee device.

You're still around here? *butt-clench*
What you are stating is a lack of RAM not processing power... And no nowadays there is still not that much wrong with a dual core. Android just isn't properly optimized to use all of its cores at the same time > that doesn't mean that it doesn't use all of its cores when it needs to to be powerful enough. But that means that, for example, when the load is 50% it is better for both cores to run on ~25% then one to be inactive and the other on 50%. Of course the single threaded performance of newer cores (A53 etc.) has increased, but that wasn't question
Phones are just like laptops, only more power constraint...
I know this case. Android closes apps with OOM and Memory Killer (something like that). Some apps could use to stay longer resident in the ram. The dificulty is that, for example, you could leave comfortably 10 tabs open in the browser, but if they use CPU power (even above 0.1%), the os will close the entire app. So no matter how much ram or cpu power you have, the power management will kick in?
We need a new kind of battery technology. Phones that don't need to recharge a whole month.

It might be your data partition filling up. 30% free space seems to be the minimum needed for speedy reads and writes. I used this method to increase the data partition to 6g.

thanks for reply.
Actually , i meant the portion that can install APP, not the totaly space left. I have other sony 16GB model, i always run out of space to install app, since they are all 16GB only. So try to find out how many this 32GB model has for APP only.
Or actually can I have the whole 32GB for app ?
On this phone the space can be used for whatever,, so you can use it for all apps if you want.

Good to know, other sony xperia has 2 partitions, one for app which used quickly, the rest like 20 plus GB are used for anything else.
