Is dual core an obselete spec for phones???? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I always love my note but here the prob is not the phone specs. But the apps thats are getting bigger and bigger day by day. Just like PC times. Just because of that now some basic apps that are with me since the start if this phone are slowing down my phone.
I think there should be a basic version of all apps and then the fancy version.
Facebook, viber and other apps are now taking like 80 mb each. Where as they were just about 8 to 10 mbs in ginger bread. I guess its time for me to put this note in my drawer and get a nee device.

You're still around here? *butt-clench*

What you are stating is a lack of RAM not processing power... And no nowadays there is still not that much wrong with a dual core. Android just isn't properly optimized to use all of its cores at the same time > that doesn't mean that it doesn't use all of its cores when it needs to to be powerful enough. But that means that, for example, when the load is 50% it is better for both cores to run on ~25% then one to be inactive and the other on 50%. Of course the single threaded performance of newer cores (A53 etc.) has increased, but that wasn't question
Phones are just like laptops, only more power constraint...

I know this case. Android closes apps with OOM and Memory Killer (something like that). Some apps could use to stay longer resident in the ram. The dificulty is that, for example, you could leave comfortably 10 tabs open in the browser, but if they use CPU power (even above 0.1%), the os will close the entire app. So no matter how much ram or cpu power you have, the power management will kick in?
We need a new kind of battery technology. Phones that don't need to recharge a whole month.

It might be your data partition filling up. 30% free space seems to be the minimum needed for speedy reads and writes. I used this method to increase the data partition to 6g.

Anyone downgraded from a Note 2

Will I notice much of a difference
I don't use led notifications, hardly play large 3d games, and turn off air view
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I have the original Note and one of my colleagues uses the Note 2, to be honest apart from NFC there's not a whole lot of difference when your not playing 3D games and such that you mentioned, and if you flash the latest leaked 4.1.2 firmware, you get all the features like the Nature UX, Paper Artist, Muliscreen etc.. that the Note 2 uses, so i personally don't think you will notice much of a difference if any at all
Better screen real estate, youll notice that as a benefit of note 1. May be a little more sluggish also, but probably only nano seconds. As above poster sais, the jb leaks offer all the software benefits.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I think note2 doesnt have many differences with note1.the differences is just a quadcore procie, but that useless if you not playing intensiveb3d games right?and now almost all the software based feature of note2 can we see in leaked jb

That's it's O N E thing. It's it worth it for that?
Soon as we have the right kernel we can use swap 2 again to bump up ram. Plus o/c as well.I'm keeping mine and think updating every other model is plenty. It's just blogs paid to make you feel you are missing out which cause the doubts in what you have
From box 13......

LG Nexus 5

I know leaks are silly most of the time, but has anyone seen the N5 leaks?
The specs are kinda sweet. 2.3GHz quadcore, 1080p, 5.2 in, 3GB RAM and such.
Probably still no microSD. They would sell a lot more N4 with microSD.
Most of them I don't want or need. But as the N4 is not that expensive, I might trade up. How about you guys?

i think these rumours are just partially true. i dont think google will release a phone with 5.2" for now, im not even sure it will be 5". just look at the htc one, 4.7" and full hd, i think that would be perfect.
3gb ram... sounds weird. i think theyre gonna stick with 2 gigs. never seen my n4 run above 1.2 in usage.
2.3ghz cpu = snapdragon 800. might be true, although they might go with tegra4. either way, its gonna pack a lot of power.
no microsd slot is reasonable, just give me the opportunity to have at least 32 gigs of storage, and im gonna be fine.
the biggest hit with the n5 will be key lime pie imo. the hardware is waay ahead of the software if we're talking about android.
we need sw optimizations, and for the love of god, do something with the battery! the most annoying thing of any smartphone is that it must be charged every day if used normally.
im really interested in motos x phone, it should - like moto usually does - deliver decent battery life with good hardware and if the rumours are true, it will have vanilla android = its a win for me.

Nope it's not the next nexus. 3gb ram? There wasn't even 2gb ram on high end phones until last month.

U.S. versions of the SGS3 have 2GB RAM. They were released in what, June or July of 2012?
2.5Gb or 4Gb RAM is more likely than 3 and hopefully DDR3.
I thought the rumor for KLP and allegedly up the newer Linux kernels use way less RAM then ICS/JB...why the need for more than 2gb then?

I was thinking the same thing. A mobile device using even 2GB RAM is a bit ridiculous. Jit compiling and Java in general are such resource hogs. Oh well.

The main issue I see is that you have a ton of basement coders with no real training or experience releasing apps onto the Play Store loaded with inefficient and just poor code. That, I think, will be the main issue causing the "need" for more resources.
Shall we get into why quad and octa core CPU's in a phone are ridiculous with multi threading being in the state it's in or leave it alone?

HTC One only showing 1.5gb of ram

Can everybody else check in the system monitor app weather your showing only 1.5gb of ram instead of 2gb?

HTC does that I think, they reserve a piece of the ram to run the system and don't show it.

It's the same on any device -a certain amount of the total RAM is unavailable to the OS and thus "hidden". For example, the One XL shows 660-760 (or something like that) total RAM, depending on the ROM you're running.

Your not getting it. My nexus 7 shows like 900, nexus 4 around 1.6. Previous phones says the same thing as having ram amounts shown less because it is dedicated to the phone.

I have also read that the GPU does not have dedicated RAM, so that it uses some of the 2gb. Then the operating system needs some RAM.
I just got mine from Rogers today (Canada)
Says 2G under system info

Is this normal?

For the screen to cause fast battery drain like this? Another thing, the device gets immensely hot, very quickly when playing real racing 3. Even on power save. Is that a note 3 thing too?
Edit: would like to add that screen was on 95% of that time

I'm not asking for a magic cure-all, but there's no way in the world I could afford any tablet, not on my payrate. I only got the note 3 by trading a bunch of stuff. I was just under the impression that new devices were supposed to get LESS warm than their older counterparts. This device reminds me of owning a tegra 3 phone..

How long was the screen on for?
It's normal for any device to get hot when playing games, especially when running graphically intensive apps. It has nothing to do with whether the device is old or new.

That sounds about right then. Screen time can usually last up to 5 hours before the battery dies.
Installing dynamic kat actually 100% fixed heat and really improved screen on batt life. I only use 6-12% an hour. Depending on cpu load

About to return the phone, I need explanation!

Been using it for two weeks already, got the lollipop update, did a clean factory reset, everything went well, benchmarks were giving me high scores, and now.... you'll see the pictures, anybody can tell me what's going on? Thanks!
I didn't do a clean just the update but I just might because it's moving Soooooo slow it lags like I can press stop on my music app poweramp and it takes like 10sec to register the screen tap........pathetic
