Error installing CM10 rom - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

got a question probably a stupid one, is it possibile that i cant install CM10 rom on my Galaxy s+ coz im trying to install it from the internal sd card (internal phone memory) coz i dont have an external sd card.... when im trying to install it in recovery mod it gives me the following error:
e:Error in /emmc/cm-10-20121125-ivendor-alpha5-ariesve.zip status7 installation aborted ... i guess its becose im trying to install it from the internal sd card but it worked also like this with other roms i tried, so is there a way i can install the rom in odin without having to use the recovery mode or any other way i can solve this problem?

Hi,
not sure, but have you flashed twice?
moreover, check this thread - probably might give you an answer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046400
BTW internal card should be ok...

Flash the latest CWM for Galaxy S Plus and try again.
This is how to flash it:
Download Odin Multidownloader 4.43.
Download AriesVE.ops.
Download recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.9-ariesve.tar.md5.
Than follow these steps:
Turn off the phone and make sure it is disconnected from the PC.
Boot the phone into Download Mode. To do so, press and hold down the Volume Down, Home, and Power buttons until the screen turns on and an Android icon in yellow appears.
Close Samsung Kies Process from Task Manager.
Double-click Odin3 v4.43.exe to open Odin on your PC.
Connect the phone to your PC.
You should see a message that says “Added” in Odin. If not, there might be a problem with your drivers.
Click on the OPS button and select the AriesVE.ops file.
Click the PDA button and select the recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.9-ariesve.tar.md5 file.
Click the Start button to begin installation. Once installation is done, you should see a PASS message. You’re now free to unplug the phone from the PC.
I hope it helps.

@nameh: what do u mean by have u flashed twice? i flashed the stock rom before then i installed the recovery 1.2 with odin and then i installed the broodROM Business Edition v1.2 rom with the recovery mode... now i wanted to try cm10 but im getting this strange error
@educk: i already installed the recovery clockwork and i installed the broodROM Business Edition v1.2 with it and it works but when im trying to install cm10 im getting that error

Mostly you get this error message when you're flashing a Rom with different partition layout from the existing one.
Just flash again the Rom and you will succeed. Sometimes it will take 3 flashes to finish it.
Good luck.

I remember from the day I flashed for the first time (CM9) I received the same error message. When I searched I realized that most troubleshooting says you have to flash twice the same ROM. So you flash it once, then again into recovery mode and flash again (the same ROM).
When I did that everything was solved and working fine.

so basiclly i have to flash the stock rom twice then reinstall the recovery mode 1.2 and try it again? or can i also flash the broodROM Business Edition v1.2 rom again and try if it works?

I would try the second part -

I would say that the problem might be related to different partition scheme CM10 uses. Have you tried the CM9->CM10?

The error message and related problem is written right there in front of your nose:
The ZIP file on your SD card does not seem to be ok. Bad download or corrupted while copying onto the SD.
EDIT: If you want to make sure that a large file got copied correctly to the SD (assuming the file you downloaded is ok):
1. Get HashTool
2. Start HashTool, make sure at least "MD5" is checked and drop the ZIP onto the program window.
3. Save the MD5 hash as a .txt file
4. Mount the phone in USB storage mode
5. Copy the ZIP
6. Drop the ZIP you copied onto the SD onto Hashtool and make sure the MD5 matches.
If the MD5 does not match, then the file on the SD is damaged. Turn off the phone, take out the SD and put it into a card reader. Delete the ZIP, copy anew, recheck the MD5. If it's ok now give it a try ... and research a possible problem with the Android drivers on your computer later on.
If it should turn out that the file is also damaged on your computer ... either the download broke (pay close attention to make sure the file came in completely) or you have a funny problem with your hard drive or file system integrity.

Correct - try another ROM or re-flash GingerXperia.

Repair it using PCC and start all over again, but this time use super1click for rooting your phone and x8toolbox for install CWM and xRecovery
Or try to pull out battery for couple minutes and see if problem still persist, than start your phone without sdcard inside, maybe you sdcard causing it
so far ok ...but it restarted bout 10 mins ago...i scare it happen again..i really hope not, the last time i serviced my phone is caused the sd card problem
I'm going slightly mad....
I've tried all possibilities, but with no use.
Everything went bad, when i unlocked bootloader, and (tried) flashed nAa kernel to use new rom's for my X8. SEMC unlocked bootloader, rooted phone, everything went fine, but... First my phone was stuck on nAa kernel screen after flashing (it said succesfully) nAa kernel and latest cm rom based on nAa kernel. Since than, i tried 10 different nAa based rom's, flashed alfs kernel succesfully and alfs based rom's, stock kernel and stock rom, and than old rom's which worked flawlessly (on stock kernel), relocked bootloader, booted without sd card, everything. But only combo which works is flashed stock kernel and stock rom 2.1.1. Why? What has been gone wrong that now even old rom's based on stock kernel aren't working? Problem with every rom and kernel combo now is that after s.e. (or if i use custom kernel - their logo), goes custom rom logo and than mobile reboots itself and goes all over again - s.e. logo, custom rom logo, and reboot. Left mobile for hours - same thing. Only when i install stock kernel and stock rom (together in one .ftf file), everything works fine. Now phone is with relocked bootloader, rooted, and on stock rom, with everything working correct. But wont let me flash any custom rom, and i don't wanna use phone like this, because nothing is like i'm used to be (i used mostly gingerdx or gingerxperia rom's).
Please help!!

[Q] Help! Error while flashing!

Hi guys,
I am getting an error as you were getting when trying to install a custom ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S.
I am currently running on stock Gingerbread 2.3.3.
Baseband version : I9000DDJV5
Kernel Version: [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.DDJV9
I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick and installed ROM Manager on it. Then, I flashed ClockworkMod recovery using it. Now, I am trying to flash Cyanogenmod 7.2 on my device and have downloaded it and kept it in the root directory of the SDcard. Now, whether I go to recovery mode manually or using ROM Manager, I am getting the error as below:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (Invalid Argument)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Also, I get only four options in the recovery mode, viz, reboot, apply update from SDcard, wipe data, wipe cache partition.
I get the same error when I try to Backup my current ROM using ROM Manager.
I searched through threads and found that some people have had similar errors but there is no solution I could find which worked for me.
I have tried clearing my download cache. Also, the download is not corrupt as I am getting the same error when trying to create a back up..
Is there any way I can correct this? Or is there any other work around for flashing like using Odin? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, I can get into download mode..but how to proceed after that?
I am currently running on my stock rom JV9.. so, you mean to say that I should first upgrade to JVU using download mode and then proceed to upgrading it further?
Can you please also tell how to upgrade to JVU using download mode?
Thanks
SIMPLE WAY TO ROOT AND FLASH LATEST ICS
1. Flash by Odin (download Odin) Semaphore 1.2.0 kernel (as PDA, UNtick repartition, UNtick reboot).
2. Take out battery.
3. Go into recovery (vol up + home + power, release power after few secs)
4. In recovery mount internal SD (sdcard) and plug phone to PC. Delete all files from internal SD (if you don't have any important files). Copy latest CM9 and gapps to internal SD. Unmount internal SD.
5. In "mounts" menu use every (excluding internal and external SD card!!!) "format" option.
6. Go to flash ZIP menu and choose CM9 ZIP, then gapps.
7. Turn off recovery (phone).
8. Turn on phone and wait to boot.
Hope I helped.
Re:
Hi,
Problem here is that you didn't flash ClockworkMod recovery. If you only have four options it means you just have Recovery 3e - which is stock on most devices sold with GingerBread. I assume you are new to this so ClockworkMod recovery might be a little tricky to use.
I suggest you go to http://www.darkyrom.com/index.php?threads/darkyrom-v11-0-black-edition-android-4-0-4-ics.7941/ and follow the guide there.
I'm not saying that Darky has the best ROM there is but it does have a nice complete guide for flashing from stock.
Good luck

Hey.. I had flashed ClockworkMod Recovery using ROM Manager..It is also showing that my current recovery is : ClockworkMode 2.5.1.2
But you are right that when I boot into recovery mode, it shows Android System Recovery <3e> written at the top and gives only four options..
I went to the DarkyRom guide you mentioned..Here is the written guide
1-If you're coming from a Froyo (Android 2.2) or Gingerbread (2.3) ROM, follow these steps;
Have your phone rooted with CWM
Make a NANDROID backup & Titanium backup & backup anything you need or find important on a PC
Now, I don't understant what does the first step means exactly? How to go about rooting with CWM and make a NANDROID backup without ROM Manager?
Please help..Thanks
For an update..I found a guide to flash leaked version of 2.3.6 XWJW1 using Odin.. and I have been able to apply that successfully on my phone..I have rooted my phone again using Odin this time.. But now too, if I am trying to backup using ROM Manager, it is giving me the same error.. Is there a way or a guide that tells how to upgrade to cyanogenmod 9 or 7.2 using Odin..instead of doing it through the recovery mode..?
No. CM7 or CM9 you can only flash from custom recovery (CWM).
And one important thing: do NOT use ROM Manager, don't ask why
Just use my tutorial. But be aware that you have to delete anything from phone.

Only ICS roms will do such as cm9.
CM7 is Gingerbread.
No service, Baseband unknown
The no service problem is still not gone.. I tried installing a modem but it has not helped.. I checked my phone details and found that it is showing baseband version as unknown. I have rolled back to 2.3.6 now but still it is not in service and not showing any baseband either.. Please advice what should I do!! Thanks for the help
You probably have damaged IMEI. If your IMEI in phone status starts with 000... you have damaged IMEI. Now you have to flash stock ROM by Odin with repartition (or 1st with Clear EFS option, 2nd without this option), backup EFS (Google!), use my guide again, and after that restore EFS.
After restarting phone, you'll get right IMEI and you should have network signal.
Hope I helped.
BTW, there's no explanation for damaging IMEI.

Problem installing any zip from recovery

Hello,
I have a galaxy ace S5830 phone. I wanted to install ICS 4.0 on it. The phone is rooted and runs 2.3.4.
When I try to install any zip file from recovery it gives an error saying "E: Can't open /tmp/sideload/package.zip (bad)".
I just cannot install any zip file.
The phone has android recovery 3e.
I formatted the OS (factory reset) but it didnt change anything. Formatted SD card too but no use.
What is the possible reason behind this error?
Any solution is highly appreciated.

Well, I tried with different zip files of CWM. It is not working. The zip files are not corrupt since I tried them on my friend's ace and they worked fine.
I did not flash for root. I rooted through superoneclick since the flash was not working.
Also the error given is not for my zip file. It is for some package.zip (I dont knw what is this zip file neither do i knw its location tmp/sideload)
Different zip files of cwm?where you get that many? Try to refer to this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12874680...install the cwm from there...and if it is still not working, reflash a new firmware (2.3.6 for most countries) via ODIN and try again...
And one more thing, in stock recovery, you must select install zip from external storage (or something like that), not from cache...you will be brought to your sd card to select the relevant zip file...

With due respect Sir, Different zips means CWM zips from different download sources.
I tried it with 2.3.3, 2.3.4, 2.3.6 (installed them via ODIN). But seems that firmware doesnt make any difference to the recovery. Keeps on giving the same error.
Thanks for the link above..let me try that out.

But, its not working, I need a method to install CWM without flashing. Since, I already have a root, is there any software that can do that?
P.S Tried ROM manager free version. It asked for premium version. Tried cracked premium version, while installation it says "Application not installed".

But, its not working, I need a method to install CWM without flashing. Since, I already have a root, is there any software that can do that?
P.S Tried ROM manager free version. It asked for premium version. Tried cracked premium version, while installation it says "Application not installed".

Jelly Bean ROM seems irremovable!! Help please!

So I flashed the following rom this morning
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953847
And I don't really like it. I am trying to flash CM9 over it but i can't!
I keep getting failed installations in CWM. I tried the same with BlackCNA and it didn't work either?
Doing a full wipe/factory reset doesn't seem to have any effect either, the phone boots into this ROM ALL the time. I haven't a clue as to what is going on. Can anyone please help! Thanks
Did you try to change the kernel and a full wipe ?

I did not, and I probably do not know how. Could you point me in the right direction please?
I dont think the kernels available are compatible for jb leak
I guess the rom file might be damaged..Try downloading the rom again and flash it

better install a Gb rom using Odin and do a factory reset from recovery. once the phone boots up, either root and get cwm to install CM9 o upgrade to ICS and root and install CM9

Third..... Download odin from this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801341

Now yr ready with yr tools.
Do a complete wipe/data/factory reset/cache /dalvik cache/battery stats..
Next open odin n put yr phone to download mode n follow screen shots provided by dr.ketan in flashing stock rom.
Once it passes. Yr on stock ics rom with ics kernel. now flash philz safe kernel through stock recovery.

Keep in mind that the included recoveries in that tool kit are outdated and therefore won't be able of flashing KitKat ROMs. If you plan on using it, you must download the latest recovery you want to use yourself and replace it in the tool's sources.

The log says CWM can't open the ROM's .zip file. Might be a bad download.
Greetings from my Nexus 7 FHD!
