Just got my Xperia TL... - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Hello Xperia users. I got my TL yesterday, but I'm still waiting on the micro sim. The Sony site has it for $29.99 with a 2 year contract, new or existing att accounts. I came from an Xperia X10, which I loved, that still is better than some androids on the market.
So I had to get another one.
I haven't found much information on rooting, recovery, or kernels. I assume because it's new? Or are all the T models the same and use the same guides? I'm on build 7.0.B.1.152 but I see talk about builds for A, not B.
If anyone can point me in the right direction on what I should do next, please link me.

Search and read up. Lots of info on the T and there is some that deals with the TL specifically and its differences.

Because of my poor memory, I record what I do to root and install roms along the way. If you want to install the latest unbranded and rooted rom, here's the instruction:
Try beginning step 6 first. If there is problem rooting, then start with step 1.
1. Install flashtool (Thanks to Androxyde)
Download here:
http://androxyde.github.com/index.html?1355071460000
- The latest file as of this writing is: flashtool-0.9.9.0-windows.exe
2. Install drivers located in /drivers directory where you installed flashtool
- Click Flashtool-drivers.exe
- I checked Xperia TX driver, Flashmode Drivers, and Fastboot Drivers
3. Download stock AT&T rootable here (Thanks to Spectre51):
- It's good to always have a copy of the stock AT&T firmware in case something happens
4. Plug in your TL to USB. Make sure other drivers are installed in PC. It will ask to install Sony PC Companion. Install it.
5. Run Flashtool. I used Flashtool instead of Flashtool64. (This is all from Spectre51. Thanks!)
- It will ask to connect yout TL. Power off the TL. While pressing low volume button, plug in the USB.
- Drag the "LT30at_7.0.B.1.152_ATT.ftf" file to the window in flashtool.
- Make sure to check "Exclude baseband" to exempt it from being installed. It is ok to leave it unchecked on a stock AT&T rom but just to make sure.
- Once done, disconnect USB and power-on the TL.
- Make sure to enable USB debugging from settings -> developer options. It is not enabled by default.
6. Download ICS Backup and Restore apk. You'll need this. Otherwise, there will be rooting error:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1343299&d=1348239155
- Save it in your SD card (internal or external)
- Install the apk
7. Rooting the phone (Thanks to Bin4ry):
- Download Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v17. You can find the file here: http://ul.to/xdevcthz
- Extract the zip file and run "RunMe.bat".
- At this moment, if there are flags in the phone or the PC Companion to update the phone to the latest version. Don't do it. Skip it.
- Click to restore the contents of "RootMe" in the phone. This is in the RunMe.bat instruction also. Phone will reboot and you are done. Your phone is already rooted.
- If you need more info, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
8. Download CWM for locked bootloaders (Thanks to Davidmarco, Sharaz22, and Cray_Doze). Make sure to do this first before installing other firmwares.
- Direct download here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/aghj2kmjrvuyyiq/CWM4XperiaT.zip
- More info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012738
- Unzip and run install.bat
- Disconnect usb cable and power off the phone
- Power on the phone
- When SONY logo appears, press repeatedly (not holding) volume-down until the phone vibrates. Wait a few seconds and you will be on CWM
- Choose "reboot system". CWM was installed successfully.
9. Download the latest stock and rooted version "195" (Stock-7-0-A-3-195-rooted.zip). Thanks to GregBradley.
- Download the file directly from here: http://d-h.st/wvy
- Transfer the file to you SD card (internal or external is ok)
- Use CWM to install
- More info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34810891
10. Install SuperSU from Play Store.
That's it!

Nice tutorial. Pretty clear and complete, you should only add the fact that you should install stock .195 kernel and reinstall cwm to be able to use extended standby. If you don't do this you will get Bootloop.

Since he is on stock AT&T firmware he doesn't need to reflash it via flashtool.
BTW if you aren't going to link to the fourm posts regarding some of the files you mentioned at least give credit to the people in your tutorial. Thx.

Wow. Thanks for the tutorial. I'd been reading what to do, but I wasn't sure on which firmware to get. I thought i needed a .303 fw, but couldn't find a TL version for at&t in the thread.

That's it. Just make sure you are rooted, Superuser or SuperSU works, and CWM works and you are all set.

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure if i needed to flash a kernel. I just installed the cwm. The phone restarted and i press the volume down continuously but it goes to a black screen and restarts the phone. Did i do something wrong? Also, my phone was at 95% but after it restartedit shows 86%. Thank you LastQuark and Spectre51 for your help.
One question though, can i tether or do i need a custom rom to tether without at&t knowing? I used to tether my x10 to my tablet without any issue, but if i used a pc then at&t would message me about it. Thanks again. Xda community is always the best.

Ok so i looked through the install.bat to see where everything was going, system/local/tmp. So i checked there and found that all the files had 0 bytes. Then i extracted the files from the zip on my phone and ran the sh install file manually. It restarted my phone, i tried going into recover but still nothing. It just went black and restarted after vibrating.
After that, i opened the chargemon file to see what was going on. I noticed the calls for busybox so i installed it from the store and then installed busybox with smart install. Restarted the phone and tried recover again. It worked! So I backed up my current rom.
I deleted all the at&t bloatware I didn't want, but each time i deleted one, my phone would restart. This would happen whether i used titanium backup or manually deleted/moved the apk. Is this normal for the phone? My x10 didn't do that.

There is a reboot fix that needs to be installed through cwm that prevents the reboot when changing system files. Look at this thread for the file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007741

After re-rooting your phone you can once again install GingerDX.. Just don't mess with settings you're not sure of
PC companion not work cuz i cant boot my phone =( im stuck in sony ericson, and where i can find SUES? ty
SEUS is no longer available... you have to plug your phone into the computer, remove the battery, on PC companion it will say "Repair this phone" in small lettering, click that then with your phone connected to the computer via USB hold the back button and put your battery in, this will put your phone into Flash mode and allow PC companion to repair your phone
i love you dude, thank you, i will not mess up again with that XD, btw i have a year using this website is awesome, i was trying to learn more about Xrecovery and CWM ty!!
What do you mean you have a gear using this website?
CWM and Xrecovery can be dangerous..
No problem!
haha my bad, "year", btw PC companion cant find a software to install, right now im talking to Sony ericson.
i think cuz i have other baseband =S
Hmm, I had this problem, just yesterday infact, I still had access to recovery though... I'm not sure what you should do, I think SE will tell you to send the phone back to them to be honest..

There still is a way to fix the phone using PC companion, the baseband doesn't matter.. as far as I know, don't quote me on that... hmm.. When I think of something I will let you know
Guys, forget PC Companion (PCC) and Update Service (SEUS) ...
If your phone still gets to the Sony Ericsson Logo, or still shows some sign of life so you can be sure that the bootloader and kernel (STOCK Kernel - I don't know if this works with custom kernels as well) is still alive, restore your device this way:
Make sure you have a Java Runtime installed.
If you're on a 64-Bit Windows Edition you NEED to have the 32-Bit JRE installed!
Make sure you have the Android drivers installed
(should already be the case if you installed PC Companion / Update Service)
Download Flashtool 0.2.9.1
Extract it to C:\Flashtool
Download Android 2.1.1.C.0.0
Copy the "X8_2.1.1.C.0.0._un.ftf" you just downloaded INTO the "firmwares" folder inside the Flashtool directory.
Disconnect your phone from the computer and turn it OFF!
Now start the X10FlashTool.exe in C:\Flashtool
Plug the USB cable into JUST your phone (NOT into the computer!).
Click "Flash" in Flashtool and select X8_2.1.1.C.0.0._un.ftf you copied into the Firmwares folder.
In the next window don't do anything, just click "OK"
Flashtool will show you a window about what you have to do:
- PRESS and HOLD the BACK button of your phone.
- Connect the USB cable to your computer. Keep the button PRESSED!
- If Windows is nagging about installing drivers - let it do its job. Keep the button PRESSED!
- Once you see output happening in Flashtool's window you can release the back button of the phone.
Patiently wait until flashing finished.
Now, as Flashtool will tell you ... disconnect the phone and turn it on.
BE PATIENT - the first boot can take a few minutes.
Once the phone booted up ...
Enable "Unknown Sources" and "USB Debugging" in your phone's settings.
Connect the phone back to the computer.
Press "Root" and let Flashtool root the Droid.
A automatic reboot will follow!
Once the phone finished rebooting ...
Press "Ask root perm" and look at your phone. You will get a popup from Superuser to grant su permissions. Confirm the request!
Now click "xRecovery" to inject xRecovery into your phone.
Done ...
Now you can go ahead and install a xRecovery compatible ROM (i.e. FroyoPro).
Download the ZIP you want to flash and push it to your phone's SD card. Example:
adb push C:\Users\<your_username>\Downloads\FroyoPro-v1.1.zip /sdcard
(you need to input that command in a Command Prompt)
If you want GingerDX back on your phone ...
- Download GingerDX v013 and copy it onto your phone's SD card (i.e. by ADB)
- Download GingerDX v020 and copy it onto your phone's SD card (i.e. by ADB)
- From Flashtool make the phone to reboot into xRecovery.
- Flash GingerDX v013 in xRecovery.
- Reboot
- Keep tapping on the screen once the Sony Ericsson Logo appears to get into CWM.
- Flash GingerDX v020 in CWM.
- Full-Wipe ("Factory Reset")
- Reboot
I just revived my X8 a few hours ago by this way after a update flash went terribly wrong for reasons I'm not able to tell.
ty, and ive trying to fix it but nop, nothing.

[Q] lost flashmode (only able to run fastboot mode)

It seems my LT30p lost flashmode.
After upgrading to 7.0.A.3.195 via "Sony PC Companion 2.1" I flashed the older LT30p_4.0.4_Vodafone.ftf with the flashtool to get back root option.
All works fine.
Now I want to flash the "LT30p_7.0.A.3.195_Vodafone_DE.ftf" I created from the "Sony PC Companion" folder with flashtool.
My problem is, the phone only is able to go into fastboot mode (irrelevant pressing volume down or up).
I re-installed the flashtool-drivers without any improvements.
What have I done and how am I able to get back the flashmode mode for my phone?
Thanks in advance.

You seem to be going around the houses. If you flash that you will lose root again. The only way to root on .195 is with an unsecure kernal and unlocked bootloader.
Just upgrade again through pccompanion and then unlock bootloader and flash advanced stock kernel v4.

Thank you. I know that at first I lost root again.
I thought (and that's I understood from that post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33568696&postcount=48) that it will possible to flash the ftf file instead of using the "PC Companion" software. I am not happy to lose my holo hd launcher's settings e.g.
I hoped it will work as you described here:
Part 2. Rooting
If you are on 7.0.A.1.303, follow Bin4ry's method from post 2.
If you are on 7.0.A.3.195, follow the other method in the how to root section from post 2.

OK, There is no such thing as flashboot mode. Its either flashmode or fastboot.
Try this
download and install latest flashtool.
Goto driver folder and install drivers for fastboot/flashmode/xperia tx
Then open flashtool and drag and drop the .ftf you want to flash into the open window of flashtool. Wait untill flashtool tells you to connect phone.
Turn phone off, count to 10, hold volume down button and connect usb cable

The phone never goes to flashmode since flashing the older ftf, only in fastboot mode, no matter if I hold the bottom down or up button.
That's the problem. I don#t know what happend to the phone, but there is no flashmode any more.
It might be, that there is no flashmode with that ftf?

No, flashmode should always work. Restart phone, restart computer and try again. Make sure you are pressing the very bottom of the volume down button
Try updating via pccompanion.

I did all of them more than once except using PC Companion. Thank you.
I will not use this tool, because it's not my favor to re-install the halo hd gui and moving other tools via root explorer. I'll wait for OTA, if vodafone germany will rollout 7.0.A.3.195 via ota.
If not, I'll see and look further. But I explain, this has been my first and also my very last Sony Smartphone.
thanks again.

You give up too easily.
Uninstall flashtool and all sony software from your PC and reinstall.
Also, you can make a backup of your system using recovery and flash your /data back in recovery after you have sorted the problem.
Personally, i will never get another phone other than sony.

Thanks again, I am familiar with CWM. I used many different roms with my Galaxy S1 and later with my SIII, too.
With Samsung flashing firmware / custom roms is much easier then with Sony Xperia.
I installed all the needed stuff on an other computer I have in my household and voila it works.
I flashed the rom without wipe data and it works, still without root.
After unlocking boot loader and flashing the V4 comes the shock: all my apps are gone and I have to re-install all my stuff, accounts, gui and so on. I hate that work. Okay, Titanium Backup helps, but it costs many time to get back that system I have had previously.
CWM is a great thing to flashing ROMs and kernels, too. Also great if you want to restore an full image, but to restore (user) data often Titanium Backup is the better choise. But that are only my two cents.

If you read the whole of the instructions from the SOny site about unlocking the bootloader it clearly states that all data will be lost and that you should make a backup of it.
Certain content on your phone may also be inaccessible due to the removal of DRM security keys and the secure user data partition while unlocking the boot loader. We advise you to create backups, since user data, settings and accounts will be removed.

[Q] Help with root

Hi,
Just got my new ZR and it came with 10.3.1.A.0.244
I need to root, so I can restore my app's data from my old phone (Xperia SOLA) via Titanium.
I started by following this thread and doing as advised:
- install USB drivers (Z, A, fastboot and flashmode)
- change USB mode to MSC
- activate debug over USB
- install Flashtool (upgrade in my case)
- restart phone in flash mode
- use flashtool to flash XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.A.0.423_Generic_NL.ftf
- flashtool says it succeeds, to remove cable and start phone
That's where it gets stuck! The phone doesn't wake up. I remove the battery, press the power button for a couple of seconds and it vibrates and ... nothing else. If I hook the phone into FlashTool, it says the phone is in flash mode.
I've tried flashing the XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.1.A.0.244_BE.ftf, but nothing works.
I bring the phone back alive by using SUS, but I'm back where I started. I've done this 3 times, and redownloaded the FTF 2 times.
What am I doing wrong? I'm still on locked bootloader. The phone has less than 24 hours... hasn't seen water yet :cyclops:
Wanted to test a couple of things, before voiding my warranty!!
If anyone has any ideas/sugestions, I'd love to hear them!
Hajah
Dude, XZR is C550X, you're flashing C660X which is XZ's kernel...
Follow the instruction here for root in 4.1.2 -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2384590
If you're on 4.2, you can try follow here but it seems still buggy -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387008
Hi,
I see now where I got mislead... (n00b)
As I see it, no valid method to get root on 4.2!
Can I flash 4.1.2 on my locked bootloader? And where do I find the correct ROM image for my C5503?
Thanks again!
------------
Found it! It was hiding behind a spoiler box in the 4.2 thread
Hajah, the C5503 n00b
try
try using doomlord rooting kit download it and connect your phone to your computer install driver if you want start doomlord press any key to continue it will automaticaly restart when it has finished
Yes, you can flash any firmware without unlocking your bootloader.
You can get all 4.1 and 4.2 stock ROM from different region in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2384512
You can try to root your 4.2 using the method, some reported to be successful.
did it work
did it work dude cause it works on all devices:fingers-crossed:
tam Esument
is there a quick and easy method to check if the bootloader is unlocked or not?

[Q] How To Root Bell Sony Xperia T LT30a W/LB Using FW/9.2.A.0.295

To Whom It May Concern...
Yesterday, I updated my Bell Sony Xperia T LT30a W/LB using FW/9.2.A.0.295. This update removed my Root Access. I haven't been successful using Bin4ry v33 to restore my Root Access.
Please provide me with step by step instructions on how to ReRoot my subject phone/firmware. Currently I have very limited App access since I was using Link2SD and without Root almost all my Apps are missing
Appreciated...Rasher0123
currently the only way to have root on 4.3 is to downgrade to 4.1, then root, flash CWM for LB then upgrade with one of the packages in the development section that has root pre-installed.
If you have an UB then you need to unlock it and flash one of the stock kernels with CWM
4.3 vs 4.1
Matt...
Thanks for your response
I was rooted before I updated my firmware to 9.2.A.0.295. Did the firmware upgrade me from 4.1>4.3 as well because I thought I was 4.3 before?
Previously I was able to achieve root by using Bin4ry v31 however since I upgraded the firmware I've lost root access and Bin4ry v33 doesn't seem to be working to restore it, I have also tried DooMLoRD v18, Kingo Root & SuperOneClick.
Are you familiar with any of the above Bin4ry, DooMLoRD, Kingo Root & SuperOneClick?
I am an avid computer user however I don't understand some of the terms and abbreviations you provided below such as LB and UB as I am new to phone mods
Any further help you could provide or others could provide would be greatly appreciated...in the simplest of terms
Thanks...Rasher0123

Rasher0123, you would have been rooted on Jellybean 4.1.2 before. The Xperia T's have only recently officially got JB 4.3 with this 9.2.A.0.295 update that started to roll out last month.

LB = locked bootloader

As someone new to phone mods a good place to start is the All in One Thread that's at the top of this Q&A forum.
I managed to keep root with an Over-The-Air update from JB 4.1.2 (FW: 9.1.A.1.141) to JB 4.3 (FW: 9.2.A.1.199) following this thread, so you could give that a try. Whether you go by Matt's advise or follow the method in the thread I've linked, I believe downgrading to JB 4.1 using flashtool will wipe your settings so make sure to backup beforehand.
Flashmode
BarneyJ & Matt...
I am trying to use Sony Mobile Flasher by Androxyde and downgrade from 9.2.A.0.295 to 9.1.A.1.141 but after Preparing Files For Flashing I can't get past the Wait For Flashmode pop-up. I unplug my Sony Xperia T from the USB cable attached to my computer. I power off my Sony Xperia T. I then hold the volume down and immediately or a second or so later replug my Sony Xperia T to the USB cable attached to my computer however NOTHING happens. This is driving me nuts! I've been trying almost all day to no avail. Please help

You surely don't know what are good manners, so you don't even deserve a time that someone could spend on you.
My apologies if my comment appeared rude
I didn't intend for my comment to be rude, I honestly was just asking if I needed to know that. I am a new user to phone mods and have spent over the last 24hrs trying to overcome many roadblocks

Firsr of all don't use CWM v9 it has bugs, try v8.
Before you start terminal open Win Task manager and close all adb processes and try again.

Thanks for the advice of using CWM v8 instead of v9
I've been reading this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245 but I'm very confused by 'Step 2.
Unzip the file you chose (cwmod_internal.zip OR cwmod_microsd.zip) to the root folder on the storage option of your choice.
So, for example, if the storage option you chose has the drive letter “F:” assigned to it when hooked up to your computer, you would want it to look something like this…
A folder located at “F:\recovery”
A file located at “F:\update.zip”;
Does that mean I unzip it to my phone directly? Any walkthrough you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I am so frustrated and confused, I haven't had anything go straightforward in this whole process that has taken me over 24hrs.

Boot Into Recovery?
I downloaded the file CWM4XperiaT_v8i_JB and installed it
https://www.dropbox.com/s/903lf9pzwfq8enz/CWM4XperiaT_v8i_JB.jpg
It appears to have worked but I don't know how to test it and I can't seem to boot into recovery. I've tried by having the phone disconnected from the computer, shutting down the phone and then once shut down holding the volume up button and pushing power. It just regular boots. I have also tried When SONY logo appears: On Xperia T/TL/TX press repeatedly (not holding) volume-down button until the phone vibrates. The phone does not vibrate and just regular boots. I've also tried a program from Google Play Store called Quick Boot which I selected Recovery within the program and the phone reboots but again just regular boots.
More suggestions please?

[Q] Help needed urgently

Hi all,
Not really sure where to post this, so firgured id put it under general questions. I am currently trying to flash android 4.2 to an Xperia Z1 thats currently running 4.4.4 kitkat. - Now feel i should mention at the start, that i am not particually brilliant with android, and am slowly learning the basics.
I am using a program called Flashtool, I have the file that I want to flash over (the 4.2) - I have also gone through the program to install all the drivers. ( I have installed all drivers as i didnt know what i needed and didnt need, and initially tried just installing the z1 drivers ) Flashtool picks up my phone, and tells me what its currently running, it also detects that what version of android i am currently running, but for some reason dosent pick up that ive tried to plug in my phone in flash mode.
The system detects when I start the phone in fastboot mode, but whenever I use Flashtools to try and connect my phone in flash mode, it just keeps asking me to connect the phone. ( I am using Z1 and the standard key is vol down whilst plugging it into the usb cable, however the l.e.d. flashes red and green quickly and then shuts off, cant even be sure that the problem is Flashtools, it might be that i havent put it into flashmode properly??)
any help would be brillant, feel free to contact me via the xda site, or via e-mail [email protected] -
This might be a particularly basic problem to somebody, its had me stumped for days, any help you could give would be massively appreciated,
cheers
Try Older version of flashtool or you are missing some drivers in flashtool folder is file with drivers and you need to check flashtool drivers and z1 drivers and firstly connect the phone and wait to install drivers and next turn off phone and hold vol down and connect without flashtool to install flashtmode drivers and at the end try to flash via flashtool.
If you are sure you have installed drivers correctly then kill any other process on your pc which use adb drivers like pc companion or airdroid etc. Or use other usb port. Or use other pc. Wrong thread though.
