Xperia V LTE issues - no incoming calls while in LTE connection - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

I have an annoying problem with LTE and my Xperia V.
While connected to LTE all incoming calls are immediately redirected to the mailbox or if I disable the mailbox the caller is directed to a "Caller currently not available" announcement. All I receive is an instant SMS notification about the missed call.
As long as I am on 3g or lower all calls come through without any issue.
Placing calls while on LTE usually works after some delay, but ocasionally fails.
I am on Vodafone Germany and have the newest firmware version (9.0.1...).
Any one got an idea what the cause and the solution would be?

When the phone is in LTE mode and you get an incoming call, the phone needs to go down to 2g or 3g. Sounds like this fails, suggest you call Vodafone about this.
Sent from my Xperia V

What network mode are you using? LTE only or LTE preferred (and everything else still allowed)? I can imagine that LTE only gives issues if your particular network doesn't support calls over LTE.

To my understanding there is no standard for voice over LTE. There is one being worked on, VoLTE, but no phones or networks support it yet. Until then voice calls has to use 2/3g.
Sent from my Xperia V

It is set to LTE preferred, but it seems to be a network issue, as LTE is completely down since yesterday.
I will phone Vodafone tomorrow to see if the issue is actually resolved, or if something else is now broken, too...
Was really looking forward to LTE, but this is annoying me already...

just one ot question: where di you get a xperia V? i thought it arrives january 2013

I work for Sony and with the devices we put on the market this year I am glad I not working for Samsung - all hype, no substance, couldn't stand the cheap plastic of an SIII for longer than 1 minute.
That is also the reason I have the Xperia V since quite some time.
I also got some further information about the LTE issue. This is a technical issue all LTE devices face at the moment, but there will be a fix coming at the end of the year, beginning of 2K13 that should fix the issue.
As is with an LTE connection there is no means of receiving calls.
That is also the reason the Xperia V won't arrive until the fix is there, as a bonus it will also come with 4.1.

Sounds like the problem is related to Vodafone since I don´t have any problems here in Sweden with my V and Telia. Havent read any reports at all from swedish users having problems with reciving incoming calls at all as far as I can remember.

Scandinavia is awesome. They're much, much faster with implementing new technology and they do it well. They stick to standards and work with a lot of vendors in constructive ways.
It's probably indeed one of the reasons why LTE devices are only seeing very marginal introductions in the rest of Europe right now. The real 'launch' of LTE will be in the spring of 2013 for most of Europe.

I'm curious, when do we get 4.2? I just got my Xpeira V and the connection is not stable when I've selected LTE (preferred). I'm using China Mobile Hong Kong where they only have 2G for my service plan.
Thanks.

Working well for me in the UK on EE, the phone just switches to HSPA+ during an incoming call.

3G not working

I'm having major trouble with my phone and need some help.
I've got a standard Vario III no flashed roms etc..
When I'm on standard GPRS network the phone works fine, calls internet etc..
However whenever it switches to a 3G or H network I cant make or receive calls or use the internet. The funny thing is that when it tries to access the internet it looks like it connects but when you click on the 3G (with the arrows) it says there are no sessions active.
Help!!
yes.. i have the same problem too
so we must switch the band using gsm to get phone works normally. if we set AUTO it will failed to make call or to receive call.
another kaiser from my friend was normally in same area. please help us.. thanks
maybe I have the same problem, I can't make calls, when I make a call it do a sound alert and end the communication.
The line is ok, I was using it with other phone without problems. I spend today 5 hours with the mobile service provider (CLARO ARGENTINA) tech service and they finally say this must be a problem with the pda, not with the service (after testing all possible alternatives)
The phone is almost new! I can connect to EDGE and navigate the internet, H or 3G appear "some times" but it get EDGE 99% of the time.
When somebody call me the phone ring and then then lost connection. When people call me they receive a "network error".
1 of 20 times I CAN do a call.
Do you think is the phone? or there is some update ? I'm downloading a 6.1 rom to test with it.
it is not the phone. Assuming your are using T-Mobile, Edge network coverage is almost 100% complete, while T-Mobile's 3G network is in the early stages. So you will usually get Edge until 3G is nearing completion - T-Mobile is slow
Here is an article: http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/05/05/t-mobiles-3g-rollout/
Well I use Claro AR (in Argentina). EDGE is 100% and 3G is quite well in my city, but what do you think about my phone calls are closed after 5/6 seconds with error and then it lose phone coverage. Never happened with other phone, same provider, same line, other phone.
Now I have updated to a duttys Rom with a newer radio version (1.65.x, my phone comes with 1.21.x) and still happening. Now I will test another rom
It IS the phone.
If you do a search on this board lots of people are having that problem, as I found when encountering it myself. It's a hardware fault in the radio part, that requires sending the device back to HTC. They actually replace the whole mainboard to cure it, so it's a serious issue.
Awaiting to receive mine back, it's been there for a month now
Here's a large thread about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335074
thank you
I force the phone to run under GSM network (not WCDMA) and the phone works perfect, internet too (only EDGE). But I can't use 3G because if I set it to WCDMA or AUTO in the phone network section, it's unusable.
That's the one. I'm receiving my Kaiser back from repair tomorrow, can't wait, and hope it will be fine this time... It's been at the service center for 6 weeks now
hello, any news ?
Yep, received it back like 3 weeks ago, everything works flawlessly. They replaced the whole mainboard just like for the other people with the same issue.
Ok I'm dead. Sending the devide to north america from Argentina? now way.
Why? I had to send it to the UK, not much of a problem...
and it back again to you? awesome!! not easy in latin america!
Ok I will call tomorrow the seller to ask the guarantee. let's see what happen.

[Q] Xperia V reboot issue with LTE network

I noticed that the phone randomly rebooted from it's idle screen. Then, after checking it out with my friends' phones, I found out that they also have the issue. Then I found out this only happened when it was in the LTE coverage.
So after some traces in the mobile switch with the help of a collegue, I was able to pinpoint the issue towards the LTE's CS fallback method.
(CS fallback is what happens when your network does not support voice over LTE, thus, the phone automatically falls back to the 3G network.)
It happens when I make a call or receive a call. When the switch pages the phone, it sometimes cannot fallback to the HSPA or 3G network. It makes the phone get stuck in some way, I think some watchdog in the chipset reboots it.
Have any of you experienced it? Do any experienced developers here know of a workaround? if you want logcat or any other traces, I can provide them.

Hi
I've got the same problem with my xperia v since monday in france (free mobile).
No problem when i set WCDMA instead of LTE.
We were able to fix this from the carrier side in Sri Lanka. It should be done from the carrier. If I remember correctly, this was done using allowing something like data handoff. If anyone is interested in whats needed in the carrier side, ping this thread.

[Q] Help! D5803 on AT&T - not receiving text messages or calls

My new xperia z3 compact (D5803) receives text messages and calls very intermittently. I'm on AT&T US, stock firmware.
- If I am using the phone (or have very recently used the phone, say within 30 seconds) then most calls and text messages come through fine (though not always).
- If I leave the phone alone for more than a few minutes, text messages or calls almost never come through - though occasionally I get a text message many hours after it was sent.
- If someone leaves a voicemail (because I didn't answer the phone, because the phone didn't ring!), I don't get a notification until I open the voicemail app and manually sync.
- I can make a phone call or send a text message with no problems (texts arrive immediately).
I don't have any of these problems when I put my SIM back into my HTC One M8.
I've tried the following to fix this:
- I went to the AT&T store and had them give me a new nano SIM. It made no difference; same issues.
- I factory reset my phone. It made no difference; same issues.
- I updated to the US version of the firmware. It made no difference; same issues.
- I put the SIM into a second, until that point unused, xperia z3. It made no difference; same issues.
Given that I have exactly the same issues after changing both the SIM and the phone, I can only think it must be some kind of compatibility issue with using AT&T on this phone - except I see that many other users of this forum are on AT&T and aren't having the same problems.
I do notice that I don't have the best signal in my house (usually 1-2 bars) so I'm wondering if maybe that could be related? As I say though, my HTC One works fine, as do all of the other AT&T phones in my house.
I think my next step will be to go and buy a T-Mobile prepaid SIM, just to see if that works, but does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? All in all this is getting pretty frustrating, because I LOVE the phone, but right now it's unusable for me.
I would suggest reading this thread below. It should give you some tips on how to resolve your issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/help/att-apn-settings-lte-t2888644
Thank you for trying to help!
I probably should have added that link as one of the things I had already tried. To be specific, my APN settings are:
Name ATT Phone
APN phone
Proxy Not set
Port Not set
Username Not set
Password Not set
Server Not set
MMSC http: //mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port 80
MCC 310
MNC 410
Authentication Type None
APN type default,mms,supl,hipri
APN protocol IPv4
Bearer Unspecified
---------------------------------
I'm beginning to think it *must* be a signal issue, even though all the other phones in my house are fine. I have the "Advanced Signal Status" app installed, but I'm not sure what I should be looking for to see if there's anything fishy
Don't forget to download the Internet and MMS settings for your phone. You go into Settings > Wireless & Networks > More > Internet settings and download settings for Internet and MMS
Thanks again for the suggestions.
Sadly, it's still not working. I'm pretty sure I had already downloaded those settings, but I did it again anyway (seems you can just download over and over). I even reset the phone after that just to be sure, but the problem persists.
I have the same issue and I live in Sweden....
Im having the same issues. I restart the device and then come all the missed calls and missed txt messages.. i really hope theres a easy fix to this soon.
So, I switched my SIM from AT&T to T-Mobile and it fixed my issues. It seems that the either the poor AT&T reception in my house or some other strange incompatibility between the phone and AT&T was the problem.
Either way there's obviously some kind of issue with this phone - my guess is that when connectivity with the network is poor, the phone maybe times-out and gives up. Perhaps Sony will fix this with a firmware update at some point. In the mean time I would suggest that other folks having this issue maybe go to a part of town where they know reception is very good and see if the problems happen there.
So after 2 days of of testing, a new nano sim card and several phone calls to ATT I found temporary fix. Change your Network mode to WCDMA (preffered)/GSM. While this wont give you LTE it will prevent the missed phone calls and txt messages and at least you have HSPA+ . The problem is the LTE connection to ATT. The connection either drops and or prevents phone calls /texts from coming through the lower HSPA + or 2g bands... Not sure why this is. Hoping that when the Sony Store models start shipping on Nov 2nd they have the same issue and Sony will send out an update to fix the connection issue.
I'm on the US ATT network with the same problem as well. After trouble shooting I have come to agree with you. I'm really hoping Sony sends out an update.
Is this a problem on Tmobile USA with Z3 Compact also?
same issues!
I have two Z3 compacts (US version purchased direct from Sony) on my family plan with the same issues of not receiving SMS or calls when connected to wi-fi, and occasionally cannot receive SMS or calls when not connected to wi-fi either. I am always able to send texts and calls, and MMS/LTE always work (I am usually e-mailed when my phone isn't working and I get that right away). Whenever the phones aren't receiving calls, it rings once and goes to voicemail, which tips us off that the phones aren't working.
If you are also getting this problem, please get on AT&T chat and ask them to escalate/forward to their manager. We've got to get their attention. Additionally, I was told that "Okay so since the phone is unlocked our service is not guaranteed to work at full capacity, also I can not submit a case due to it is not an at&t phone. "
Yep - Same problem over here. AT&T in Northeast USA.
AT&T tried everything they could (resettings connection, etc) but again also said that it isn't guaranteed to work because it's an unlocked device.
I'm doing a system repair on the phone from the sony desktop application. Hoping it will fix, but not hopeful. Now sony says they want to have my phone in for testing. :/
I'm hoping they realize soon that this is a bug, and not a case of a broken phone.
Same problem here on cricket (AT&T) in Houston. Just disabled LTE. We'll see if that fixes it like it did for the other guy. Sony needs to get on this.

Not working MMS
Yep I have tried all of the above solutions and nothing is working. Changed APN multiple times, factory reset, switched SIM, called att, went into the store.
Like above, ATT came to the conclusion that unlocked phones are sometimes not compatible with their service and there's only so much trouble shooting they can do.
I have ATT in san francisco, and it's looking like I'm going to return the Xperia z3c. Shame it's a great phone besides the MMS issue.

Confirmed that this worked on my wife's z3c. She wont miss the LTE anyway since she is always near wifi and when she isn't 3G is definitely good enough. We streamed spotify for an hour today on country roads on her phone on 3G. No issues.

sorry to hear you guys are having such issues...
My z3 compact on att works flawlessly. I swapped my nano sim from a iphone 6 i was trying out straight into this.
Att did mention something about some settings they had to flip in the back end when i switched over to a nano sim from the sim i was using in my lg g3. If you guys loose all hope have a buddy with an iphone on att and use his imei and let att configure the sim for that phone then swap the sim into the z3...could work because i know it does for me
Same issues here. I have a new D5803 on Straight Talk (AT&T). I live in the mid Atlantic. It seems I don't receive calls/texts when I have 2 bars or less. Not sure about LTE vs. HSPA. I always have Wifi on so not sure if turning it off would make a difference. THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE! Hopefully a firmware update will save us. Has anyone contacted Sony?

Sony xperia z3c mobile data problem
Hi,
sorry for my bad english. After the latest aktualization 23.4.A.0.546 (Android 5.1.1) I have a problem with interrupted mobile data connection (3G, 2G), permanently connect, disconnect. 4G holds on (done up), but very bad signal, rather none. Device is factory reseted after the actualization, sim card is OK, operator (T-mobile CZ) doesn’t see any problem with configuration. Before the actualization no problem. Question posted on official technical support Sony a week without response. In my opinion - bugged actualization. Anyone any idea?
Sony xperia Z3 compact
T-mobile Czech republic operator
Issues
The 4g is really weak but I'm also having trouble with phone calls. The caller cannot always hear me. I have to switch back and forth between speaker and handset. As a result callers hang up on me but also because the signal is weak my calls drop. Another issue I have is when I logonto WiFi all running apps fail to operate data specific features. For example if I long g into WiFi my whatsapp will stop sending and receiving messages and if I go back up cellular those messages will sometimes leave the queue but generally I have to restart my phone.
Body lock feature on smart lock does not work, first day out out caused me a huge problem with a girl I was seeing. I should add that these issues are also being experience by my friend, we both have the z3c USA version.
yeah I am having issues as well where it drops out and gets weak. I have another 4g phone on the same network and that isnt having the issues.
edit: using 23.4.A.0.546 - Unbranded - BALTIC (1288-5413) on a UK z3c
I have no problems with signal strength. In the place of my tests I have always 100% coverage.
But I have observed very slow change 3g / 2g to lte (preferred) / 3g / 2g. The delay was 2 to 3 minutes to switch from 3G to LTE. I have done many many tests.
Maybe finally I managed to solve: I have opened mobile mode info with * # * # 4636 # * # * and I changed mode LTE / WCDMA. Now the connection to LTE is faster, 15 to 20 seconds.
Maybe you can try the mobile mode info.
I continue to report more tests.
I using NCB 1288-5411 23.4.A.0.546_R14C (Nordic Combined) customized Slim Wajk . In Spain.
Lte only
That works for me but now I cannot make calls because voice is handled in the 3g network. Ideas?
---------- Post added at 12:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 PM ----------
Lte/GSM(auto prl) works for me and resolves the data issues
I switched to the UK o2 version (my carrier) and things seem to be back to normal and I now have the NFC icon in the notifcation panel, something absent on the version I had installed before.
very odd. but I like the o2 version as it allows me to chose just 4g/3g/2g etc for when I am in areas of bad signal, not something the other versions give you as much control over.
Blah
Still the same issues. Hopefully Sony can patch this.

Hi Azazelix,
I'm also in TMCZ network and I used to have data connection problems (losing data connection when travelling) with others than T-Mobile CZ branded fw.
Since I'm on branded TMCZ LP fw, all problems are gone.
I'm guessing it might have something to do with radio version -> now I have 8974-AAAAANAZQ-00063-42 and no problems.
As far as I know TMCZ branded 5.1 is not released yet! -> thus my suggestion for going back to latest TMCZ branded fw and hold on until TMCZ branded 5.1
is gonna get released.
Good luck to you!
The Sony support forums suggested that you changed your app settings. In your app settings where it says ipv6, change it to ipv4. This seems to have worked for me however I'm still having issues with people hearing me when I use speaker phone.
No news? Im brazillian. The same problem with 5.1.1
Unique solution is back to 5.0.2?

Signal issues

AT&T in Chicago. We have issues with signal on the Z3C in our apartment. Trying to troubleshoot, but not really sure how to go about this.
The symptoms are phone calls that never ring, and text messages that don't get delivered on time. Then all of sudden the voicemails and texts come through in a bunch. Oddly though, can always make a call or send a text. This is on WiFi if that matters.
Have a Nexus 5 and a Nexus 6p in the house, with no such issues on either of those.
I tried some network strength tools from the play store, but the dB reading on the Z3C is just coming up blank even though I'm currently able to send/receive texts, so something is wonky there.
Any one have some advice? I was thinking of changing the preferred mobile network from LTE to WCDMA, but then do I lose access to LTE all the time? Thanks in advance.
this has started happening to me too on my z3c. I noticed it this week. Same symptoms, but the occur everywhere;
Info
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact D5803
Rooted & Xposed Framework w/xPrivacy debloated Sony ROM Android 5.1.1
AT&T Service with tethering and mobile group family plan
Houston, TX USA
Symptoms:
-Occasionally phone calls forwarded from GoogleVoice to my ATT phone number (over standard voice, this phone doesn't have VoLTE anyway) don't ring, or show up as a missed call. The only way to know a call came through is the voicemail notification in hangouts, if they left a voicemail.
-While driving, cell signal drops to 1 bar or less, then jumps to 5 full bars instantly, while connection to the internet is intermittent. (this was not an issue last week to my knowledge, it use to move from tower to tower quite well)
Troubleshooting Attempts:
-Added my own APN settings rather than using the one the phone downloads automatically. I used the settings from ATT's website, and when compared to the downloaded one, the only thing missing was "hipri" in the APN Type field. I just did this, so the result is yet to be determined.
-Restarted phone
-Cleared Caches
-Checked all other obvious settings
-Called ATT and updated my registered IMEI when I bought the phone two weeks ago from someone on craigslist, so can't be that. (I've also moved my sim into my old Moto X to test, and that doesn't seem to have this issue.
Hope this helps

Does not fill me with hope. We just flipped the LTE off, I'll post the results back after Christmas.
Sorry to say we already have hirpi in the APN, but hopefully it works for you.
