You're not on lte if you're only getting 3mbps, does it show 4g near the signal bars?

The signal and speed can drop pretty badly if you're indoors, but I've had a few speed tests at around 60/20 downtown and in East York when I was pulling full bars (Fido/Rogers). It's not the best in my house, but I have Wi-Fi for that.
Edit: I also end up falling back to 3G fairly often, which may be due to either the lack of a signal amplifier or the network which I'm not too familiar with.

Anyone able to share GTA speeds? Mississauga Brampton area?

I hit 50down and 18up in mississauga, but this was outside with perfect signal. In the deepest darkest pits of my basement i only hit 7down 1up.

Got this in Brampton

Weak lte signal

Does anyone else notice a weak lte antenna? Been stuck on 3G where I had full 4G with the EVO LTE. Otherwise I love this phone. I can just stare at the screen, it's a thing of beauty.

I've actually noticed this as well. Do u use a case? I'm wondering if it maybe has something to do with that. Gonna test when I get home from work.

I dont know if it has anything to do with it but i shut off The Sleep Mode in settings/power and it seems like my 4G is alot better. It could be my imagination but it sure as hell seems better! Lol
I'll give it a try

Found what I believe is a solution. When I changed my network mode from cdma/lte to automatic, my signal changed from 1x to 4g. Strange but true, makes a huge difference

Im really starting to notice as i drive all over Florida(im a driver) that it its not holding 4G as well as my Note II...In sensorly it gives you a good idea where LTE is available, hell i logged a bunch of what is seen in Florida and im noticing in light purple areas where I had 4G before i have to now be pretty stationary for the One to lock in to 4G..But the real kick in the sack that has been driving me crazy these passed 2 days is seeing 4G on the phone and start doing something which transmits data it drops 4G and goes back to 3G..Happened at least 7 times today
Quite honestly, I had this issue pretty much with all my Sprint LTE phones, and I had pretty much all of them. Of course some held LTE more than others, but I was still getting frequent drops. Until Sprint moves into the 800 frequency, Holding LTE is going to be a consistent problem.

At 1st I was ready to return the phone because of it but decided it's really not worth it..Central Florida is only at 28% so things should improve once LTE is a little more dense and not so much distance between each tower that has been upgraded..And if i get my panties in a twist I can always go back to the Note II untill more towers are lit up.
Sprint LTE is the Swiss Cheese of 4G...
Yea same here my signal doesn't stay connected switches frequently as compared to my S3 which held 4g constantly Im in Lawrence KS we got good lte signal here

Today I Watched My Nexus 4 Get Genuinely Confused

So I'm on a road trip, and I brought my N4 (on T-Mobile USA) along for the ride. I decided to stay the night in Savannah, GA. After checking into my hotel, I took my phone out of my pocket and saw something I've never seen before. It was showing a data connection as "3G" rather than the usual "H" for HSPA or "E" for EDGE. I had to do a double take. Curious, I went to Settings-About Phone-Status and checked the network type. It was "UMTS:3". Obviously that means T-Mobile's network refarming has happened here and 1900 MHz UMTS is live.
Here's the thing, though. The radio keeps switching between "3G" and "H" every few seconds, seemingly unable to figure out which one it wants to hold onto. The phone is still usable but I still find it annoying. Of course, the vast majority of T-Mobile phones would never experience this since they hardly ever have support for 1900 MHz, but I'm curious if other N4 owners living in areas where T-Mobile has lit up 1900 MHz UMTS are having this issue as well? In the end, the phone may be usable, but the constant switching is playing hell on my OCD!!

At least the refarming is done where you're at, I'm still impatiently waiting.

Yeah but at this rate I'm hoping they either fix this in a Nexus 4 radio update (maybe make it prefer HSPA over UMTS, but I don't know if that would cause problems outside the US), or never light it up in my home market. haha
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I just came from Verizon of 12 years and a gs3. I'm on umts at my home in rural Atlanta ga. It does the same switching as you say. I just thought that was normal gsm behavior .... phone is idle then 3g is active. Phone queries the net (open browser etc...) and H kicks in.
On another note the H speeds here are almost equal to vzw lte, I'm impressed

I just noticed you're in Durham, I'm in Winston.
Has the refarm taken effect by you?
My phone does this then pulls the h on demand I am in Detroit metro area. I still pull high download speeds and don't have a problem with the change over. Honestly until I read this post I thought this was normal. Do do a speed test see if it is slower or faster then your use to.

No it hasn't, and hopefully it won't before there's a radio update to fix it (if they'd even bother fixing it)!

I have had my N4 for only a couple months, but it has been doing that ever since I got it. I am in the Farmington, MO area too though. I thought it was just normal, as this is the first time I have had a decent phone and be on a plan rather than prepay.
Mine has always behaved like that. My nexus one and gnex too.

I'm on all stock and I've never seen the 3G label. I'm out here in Portland, OR, and SLC, UT. I just figured our phones were only capable of G, E, and H labels.

I find it wierd that you've never seen the 3G label. Normally you camp on 3G (UMTS) and it'll flip to "H" for HSPA+ when data's transferring either up, down, or both. This has been normal over the years, until there were modifications on T-Mobile's side to display 4G all the time for devices that were HSPA+ capable.

GS2, Samsung edited to reflect 4G. Most customers would be perplexed by the constant camping on 3G, then flipping to H (HSPA+ which is branded as T-Mobile 4G), so the just modified their network bits in their OS to reflect 4G all the time. As far as the Nexus S, that's just a 3G device not capable of the HSPA+ bandwidth (it topped out at 7mbps).

Sounds like you're running an AOSP rom on your N2. 3G for UMTS, H for HSPA+, and 4G for the LTE. If you were on a stock TMo ROM, it'd be 4G for UMTS and HSPA+, then 4G LTE for LTE.
Important to note is that the status bar icons ate just that. . .icons. You could actually modify these to display whatever you wanted. If I wanted it to say 8G when on LTE, I'd just have to make a custom icon and bake it in. Doesn't mean I actually have an 8G network.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
thats normal behavior, it changes to H when there is data flow. it just depends on the area and the signal/coverage in the area. on a custom rom, i see it change from a H to a H+ all the time(when data is flowing). rarely, i see a 3G.

LTE -117 to -120dbm

Has there ever been a radio update to change this a little higher on any other phone? Dropping to 3G from LTE is killer.. I usually leave my phone in CDMA only in my home town area but I went to a launched area this passed week where the roll out is in the 90% complete zone and it still drops from 4G to 3G a lot..
Just wondering if a radio update has ever fixed an issue like this on any other devices in the past.

I don't think the phone is the problem buddy. I think it's a network issue. So unless u are planning on actually leaving sprint it shouldn't be a deal breaker.

I don't think it's a phone issue but my Note II holds LTE like a champ but damn I don't want to lug that thing around anymore after having the One for this long.. dbm levels are the same on the Note it just doesn't drop to 3G until the -130 range where as the One drops it around -117dbm... I'm holding out on a possible radio update before I do anything drastic like going back to the Note II.

It's network and phones that are the issue. First off, it shoildnt be that much of a problem to drop to 3g, as long as the data still works. Buut 3g is worthless usually with no throughput.
Then these HTC phones can't hold on (or wont) to lte for ****, for whatever reason. The iPhone 5, gs3, and 4 all held 4g, and when they dropped it, it quickly moved back up to 4g. This phone, on the other hand, will drop 4g, sit with NO data connection for a while, then connect to worthless 3g while still in a 4g blanketed area.
Then on the LTE topic...I've been waiting and waiting but this crap seems to get slower and slower as time passes. Plenty of times I will get less than 1mbps. Ive been waiting almost 2 years for them to get it together but it seems that it won't be happening. Back to tmobole (<10 mbps always) I go
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
Well I keep telling myself I need to try a galaxy but the build of the HTC phones keep luring me in. Maybe with this phone being a more popular model because it is across different carriers unlike the Evo line the devs can find away to adjust the settings of the hardware. It is very annoying when my T-Mobile buddy constantly pulls 15-25 mbps on his speed tests and I look at mine and see 3g icon on top. I know there is lte out there we r 80% complete here

Poor signal reception on AT&T with AT&T Note 3

Switched to Note 3 from Lumia 920 (phone upgrade, had my SIM replaced as well). Now on all places where I previously had stable LTE signal my Note has couple bars of HSPA or from time to time HSPA+. I still can catch LTE signal from time to time but not in the area I live (and had stable LTE for a year on Lumia).
What may be the reason? Is it a phone problem or just Nokia modem has better sensitivity?
Don't want to initiate replacement procedure, the phone seems perfect in all other aspects...
I've also been disappointed with the reception vs the S4. I'm also having trouble installing apps from the play store >.< even on wifi.
I have bad reception also
I am thinking of returning, I have had to switch to airplane mode twice in the past hour to get it to reconnect to LTE. It sometimes drops out all together when accessing the play store. I am in Baton Rouge, and didn't have any issues on my iphone 5.

That's crazy, I'm in Baton Rouge too.Just got my Note 3 from the Best Buy Mobile on Bluebonnet. Maybe its borked because of the impending hurricane doom.
Yes, switching airplane mode on and off helps to establish LTE link everywhere... But it switches back to HSPA in 20-30 min and never return back by itself. Definitely software bug

I'm from just south of Baton Rouge, reception has either been great or next to none for me. I can manually put the note 3 on lte but the speed at that point is slower than the 4g. Sadly my s4 active was nearly the same way...

If you connect to a VPN like privateinternetaccess.com (also avaliable on the play store) and select a country other than the US it will more than likely work.

I live in SF Bay area and this definitely not storm, it's some software/modem firmware fault. It seems not trying to switch to LTE once kicked to HSPA. If I do airplane mode switch on a place I have good LTE signal it would jump to LTE and keep connected for a long time until I move and it loses it. After that it jumps down to HSPA and not trying to return back on LTE even if I go back to same place where it had full bars of LTE before
Well good to know it isn't just Southeast Louisiana. Also, just plain nuts to me that we're all posting in the same thread miles apart, go figure.
I haven't had time to switch my Sim back to my S4 to do some testing. But I feel like my speeds are definitely suffering.
Post your speed tests for comparison. BTW one of my favorite features about the s pen are the easy screen captures and edits.
Maybe it's just an APN issue? Has anyone tried playing with that? I tried a few from rootzwiki but don't really know what I'm doing in the APN neighborhood.

For what it's worth, FL is having issues as well. Play store has been wonky and the reception has been less than stellar. With all these reports I'm willing to bet it's something on their end.
I am going to try and swap it out at the local store tomorrow even though I ordered it online. I should be able to according to the terms. I am willing to give it another shot, although at work today I had absolutely zero signal just a circle with a line through it. I normally get at least phone and text functionality at work.
All your phones are perfectly fine - they just need a firmware update or two.
I've seen mine even drop off to edge just sitting here at my desk.

Signal strength issues

I'm having a lot of signal strength issues as of this morning. Losing data signal and going in out of service. This is in a high data strength area, downtown. I never had this issue on my S3.
I love the phone but I might have to sell it.
Any help would appreciated

my signal hasn't been worse with my moto x. It could just be service being done for your network in that area. I know a lot of things started changing across networks recently. Just a few months ago I believe att and vzw sold different bands to each other in different areas in the US that changed things drastically. Also, vzw has been having trouble with 4g in certain major cities recently (or i saw reports recently). And other carriers are doing new upgrades to their system that are slowing things down. Get someone with an s3 on your service and bring look at direct comparison at work, should solve your problem, or let you know if there is one i mean.
I don't think I get LTE as often with the motox as I did with my S3
