I can't get google play music to install. At first I was getting an error that the previous package was not signed. Please uninstall previous version. But I could never find it in my apps to uninstall. I manually deleted music.apk from system/app folder. Now I get an error that says the application is already installed but I can't find it anywhere. How can I manually remove this app without have to wipe my Xoom?

You uninstalled the basic music app. Not qoogle play music.
If you don't use the basic android music app, I'd just leave it out. With a file explorer like Root Explorer, go to data/app and find the Google music app. That is the one you need to remove. Delete the apk file and then go to Google play and install Google music. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the response. I went there, but I don't have a apk for music or google play music
Any other thoughts?

So I have google play music on my phone also, and I cannot find an apk for that either in data/app. Could there be another location for the file?
Do you have a tibu for your tablet?
I cannot think of any other location
Are you running ICS?
If so you might have Google music disabled.
You can find it in all apps in settings on the bottom of the list.
If that's not the case, verify that it is deleted from system/app and data/app. The file name is com.google.android.music-1.apk

I know this thread is over 3 months old, but I ran into this same issue on my Galaxy Nexus after updating the custom rom I am running. To fix it I downloaded the Google Play Music app from here, renamed it to com.google.android.music-1.apk, then used my file manager app (File Expert) to copy it from my Download folder to the /data/app directory. After changing the permissions on the APK to match the others in the same directory, I rebooted my phone to a working Play Music application. Hopefully this helps someone who also experiences this problem.
I just rooted my kindle fire hd and now wondering exactly how to get the apps I want on there. The reason I rooted it was mainly that I wanted GO Launcher HD and also the Google Play Store. How do I go about getting these to work on tablet now? I thought that maybe now that I was rooted I would just be able to download the files .apk and install them using ES File Explorer, but when I tried with GO Launcher HD it installed but nothing happened? Where do I go from here?

Thanks, I couldn't find the GO Launcher one.
I did find a Play Store one, got it installed but I'm not able to log into it with my google account.
You must install the Google service framework apk to login. And make sure you install it from /system/app with rw-r-r permissions. And you must install Play from from there too, now you can login. I have it working perfectly by using this method.
This thread tells you exactly how to get the play store working on your KFHD, including all the files.

Ok, so I set everything up on my computer and then ran the qemu root program. It went through all the steps, rebooted my kindle a few times and then at the end said I was rooted. It mentioned I may need to reboot.
So I got google play's apk on there and installed it but it won't open. It says "Google Play Store Has Stopped" everytime I open it.
So I put ES File Explorer on the kindle and went to the settings to check root. It doesn't work.
What am I doing wrong? It seems there are no guides to root the kindle fire 2 non hd, and all I could find were guides to root the kindle fire hd.
Please help
-Thanks

Just installing Google Play apk will not work. You have to install vending.apk/phonesky.apk as a system app. You can download phonesky.apk from link below. It is the new version of vending.apk, the play store instead of the market. Like the post above states move to system/app folder, change permissions to rw-r--r--, then install.
Also make sure GoogleServicesFramework.apk(link below) is installed, no need to install in system folder just normal install will work. If they still don't work just try re-installing. It took doing this three times one of the times I did it before it worked.
Phonesky.apk-

OK, I got google play to work and install apps via your help above.
But what's odd now is that I can't get root write access anymore. How on earth did that happen?
Anyhow, what I'd really like to do is replace the amazon launcher with a standard android one. Am I able to install cyanogenmod on this baby? Any links to aid me for that one or for any custom rom?
-Thanks

No custom roms as of yet. Hashcode has developed a way to get past the bootloader but still testing. So custom roms should be an option soon.
Use this link for new launcher:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915493
Personally I prefer apex launcher, gives you a good ICS feel. Also you can hide the notification and nav bars to have full screen.
Ok, so ES file manager says I'm not rooted anymore, but google play store works and can install apps just fine.
What is going on? How do I get es file manager to let me r/w in the "root only" folders?
Also, how do I get the go or apex launcher to be the main launcher and to come up when I touch the home button?
-Thanks
Kindle Fire HD 7.2.3 rooted
Hi Guys,
I have successfully rooted my new Kindle FIre HD 7.2.3 with following method.
Root Step 1: Run Root MANY ANDROID! http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1886460.
Did not need to do the step 2 (Run Qemu automated root http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1893838. )
I can see super user in apps and i can mount /system as read/write using es filexplorer.
I had downloaded the following apk.
GoogleServicesFramework.apk
Vending.apk
Gplay3.8.17.apk
Installed GoogleServicesFramework.apk first and rebooted kindle fire hd.
Moved Vending.apk to /system/app with permissions of rw-r-r and installed from there.
I could see the market app in apps drawer but it does not start. Any idea ?
Thanks,
Dev

I believe that the live wallpapers picker application is what your looking for, but I have not tried it yet so.
UPDATE
so I just loaded it up (copy to system app folder with perm. Rw-r--r--) and it works just fine. So just find the a pk through the googles and away you go.

Just Google livewallpaperpicker.apk, and a forum should have it in like the second link.

Weird, it might be a bad application. Worst comes to worst, you can download a nexus 7 stock rom, and pull the actual livewallpaperspicker.apk to use. It's either that, or do you even have any live wallpaper applications themselves installed?

After further messing around with it, try this.
1) download LiveWallpapersPicker.apk from below.
2) Make sure you have root access.
3) Install a application to manage files with root access (example Root Explorer).
4) Move the downloaded file to your Kindle Fire HD. (Remember where you place it).
5) Go into your system/App folder, and move the LiveWallpapersPicker.apk to this folder.
6) Change permissions on LiveWallpapersPicker.apk to rw-r-r.
7) Install Live Wallpapers from the Google Market, or Sideload them
Done, this should help you out.

Hi, I already follow ur steps but nothing happen after I sideloaded it (step 7)... now, I tried to start from 1st step again.. however, when I want to remove "LiveWallpapersPicker.apk" from the system/app/ folder it said: "LiveWallpapersPicker.apk cannot be deleted because the file system read only"... I cannot uninstall it via setting-filter app...
btw, at the system/app folder permission already rw-r--r-- (cant rename it, cant delete it, cant change it permission, cant move it)
what should I do?
thx

EDIT: just solved my own remove problem... however, still after installed + permission changed into rw-r-r, I cant use it

I've followed the steps above and successfully installed galaxy note's live wallpaper, but when I tried to install other live wallpapers as uploaded below, I can't find the access to open and set it as wallpaper. Does any one have ideas about it?

Make sure you are following the steps correctly. Once you move LiveWallpaperPicker.apk to system/app. Double check permissions. restart after that. I'm awesome your using a alternative launcher that is not the kindle launcher? If not that may be your problem. If you have a alternative launcher, long click your home screen and see go to wallpapers, make sure there's a option for live wallpaper. If there is you are all set, you do need to install your own live wallpapers though. I recommend using them from the android play market. Hope this helps.

The gallery, and live wallpapers are completely different applications. Gallery is to look at the pictures, and is a easy way to set wallpapers, and live wallpapers is specifically for live wallpapers only. If this is not what you where talking about, Sorry.
Works Great!
Thanks for the link to the apk. Installation is successful!

Is there a pre-req to this? Where do you find the app after doing the steps so that you can select the wallpaper? Or does the wallpaper automatically show up after install? My kindle still has default ad lock screen and default launcher. On a side note I got my kindle fire hd 2 days ago and have managed to root and get google play working first time rooter here. :victory: but still am nooby
many thanks

Can't Get Live Wallpapers To Work
My KFHD is rooted also. It has a black background screen when using other launchers. When doing the long press on the screen I get the popup to select a wallpaper and it allows me to do so. However, when I press the button to select the wallpaper, it just closes down. I have LiveWallpaper installed in the app it came with the root software, but it doesn't show up anywhere that I can use it. It's in the app folder and not found anywhere else on the device.
Can I get some help on this please? Thanks.
I have the kindle fire hd 7", rooted, with google play running and working. however, some apps, such as pair, say they are not compatible with my device. i had the first kindle fire with cm10, and it ran these apps just fine. why wont they appear, and is there a way to fix it? ive tried sideloading, and they download, but dont install.
I would also to know if there's a fix for that. Anyone ? Thanks.

Well, I have a similar problem with my HD 7, and my only clue is that there must be some information bytes that the device is not giving the Google place store application. Because the play store looks at both vendor name and screen density, plus other factors I wouldn't know, something is missing. All I can say is that it could be something really simple, or it could be just the early ness of the ROM.

what i've done
I've found that if I can get the apk file on my device it will still install. All but a couple have worked with no problem. I use my phone to get the apk and then put it on my device
Build.prop is the answer
Simply navigate back to /system/build.prop and change ro.product.model to "GT-I9100", and ro.product.brand to "samsung"
Reboot and all of the market apps should work.

Another workaround could be install the android bazaar market to get the APKs
i have the apk i want downloaded, but it will not install. i am running google play, and when i go to that app' s page on gp, it says this application is not compatible with your device.
