Hi,
I put "opera:gpu" in the address bar which showd that opera mobile's hardware acceleration is disabled on the nexus7. Indeed compared to opera mini (which appears to be working with hw acceleration) animations and scrolling are choppy on the n7.
I tried the force gpu rendering developer option but nothing changed.
Anyone know how to force hardware acceleration for opera mobile on the n7?
thanks

Just because opengl es and D3DM work doesnt mean that the GPU is doing the work. I think all we have here is a software rasterizer that is using the CPU. There is no evidence that i am aware of that proves the graphics chip is active. Here is the evidence i collected that shows how the graphics are rendered.
1. In Touchflo 3d,if you go to the settings tab,and click about, there is a list of all the technology used to develop TF3D. Where it says opengl, there is a copyright 2004 Hans-Martin Will. Hans-Martin Will started the vincent3d opensource opengl es project, which is a SOFTWARE implementation. Basically what this means is,Touchflo 3d uses this graphics library to render graphics.
2.The D3Dmobile driver is only a wrapper around opengl ES. Why would we need a wrapper for D3DM if hardware drivers were present? What this means is that D3Dm is also rendered by software only. Notice how DirectDraw is also slow? Thats because there are no drivers. It wouldnt make sense for drivers to allow 3d acceleration only without support for 2d.
3.Samsung Omnia drivers work on the Diamond/Raphael. Huh? These two devices dont even have the same graphics chip. How can a driver for one graphics chip work on a completely different brand/model/type of graphics chip? It cant. The only explanation there could be is that the omnia driver is also a software rasterizer and thats why it works with the htc devices.
that sucks, because it makes sense..
most interesting...
i smell conspiracy...
so true.......................................
Play a very high quality MP4 (h.264) in software mode (with coreplayer for an example) and watch your diamond completely choke, then launch the same video with windows media player and see the difference!
That's one proof of hardware acceleration at least...
Also I highly doubt a game like Xtract would run as great as it does on the Diamond without any hardware acceleration, the graphics and framerate is way to good for the cpu to handle in only software mode, even if it was just drivers.
Aha, that is perhaps why iGo runs way better on my old tek S200 than on my fresh, new touch diamond.
mayby if you read the posts & topics
then you would see there is a 3d driver
just use de diamond ati 3d driver
my diamond goes from 0.2 fps in the hologram program to an stable 25 fps
Thats a hole inprovement
Ps sorry for my bad english
and i also included the driver in the attachment
Greetings Nossie
Hm, where did you find that? It didn't notice any differnce in the slowness of IGO really..Why isn't that installed by default?
disagree...
test the software and hardware versions of COD 2, THPS 2 and NFS Undercover. See the difference: 3D acceleration not only improves the texture and graphics in general, but the framerate. I think if it was just some kind of emulation 3d, improved graphics would worsen the framerate, but what you see is an increase in FPS! Therefore, I believe there is actually hardware acceleration.
Can anyone verify that the Skyfire browser works with the Topaz?
sure it works. The only letdown is that skyfire doesnt support TD2's screen resolution, which makes everything look stretched and a bit blurry. Besides that it generally works
Yes it does work. Nothing for me it doesn't looks stretched but is blurry. The controls are small but workable with my big thumbs.
I still prefer Opera though because it seems to be faster for me. Fennec (FireFox Mobile) should be nice. I am trying the latest beta I have found. Still preffer Opera athough some things about it are cool.
Wonder why that is? Skyfire claims to support touch-sensitive screen with 800 x 480 WVGA resolution. Thanks for the response.
at my device... skyfire is not in high resolution... it just doubles the pixelz...
any tweaks for that around?
opera does not open some sites with layers...
so the browsing can not be done with opera properly...
i downloaded Fennec (FireFox Mobile), but have not tried it on my device... lets see...
I guess there won't be a work around to this, the pages are rendered @ Skyfire's servers @ the max resolution of 400x240..
Skyfire should change this to improve the quality, otherwise, nothing will change.
Skyfire Beta version 0.9 are more stable
Skyfire version 1.0 are more feature
What browser is everyone using? I tried many of them, but they all lack something. I am using CM7 RC4.
- Firefox. Excellent in all areas except for speed. Scrolling and loading is too slow to be useful. Does not support flash - I do not care about flash much, but for some it would be a dealbreaker.
- Dolphin HD. Slow scrolling. Supports flash. Incorrectly renders some pages (iclarified.com). Too slow to be useful for me.
- Opera mobile. Very fast. Supports flash. Would be perfect if it had an ability to change browser agent. Without it many websites insist on using mobile version.
What I want is Firefox features with speed of Opera. Does such thing exist?
Maybe mirin browser. I haven't tried it so much but it seems fast. Don't know if it supports flash though.

I use Dolphin HD. Never had any issue except slow scrolling for graphics heavy sites.
by the way you cab change user agent in opera mobile. look at the Opera thread on how.
i use xscope. I have tried dolphin but i cannot stand how it renders some pages (one that comes to mind is reddit).
Firefox like you said is too slow
Opera seems promising, I am using that every once in a while now but still always find myself going back to xscope
Skyfire 3.0
I would suggest skyfire. Been the best of all worlds for me!
I love and use the stock browser just fine.
Since Opera 11 got flash, I feel the other browsers can't compete. up until that point I was a Dolphin HD Guy.
I use xscope or dolphin HD. I do not like Skyfire or Opera since they proxy your web traffic.
Opera Mobile 11 is the only browser I use now. Too many of the websites that I frequent have really slow scrolling on the webkit based browsers. Now that Opera Mobile has GPU acceleration and flash support I can't use anything else.

Opera Mobile does not use a proxy unless you turn on turbo mode which will just compress images for you.
was using miren, but i prefer opera mobile now, i like how it render pages much than miren or firefox. Miren is pretty fine too, i like how it handle tabs.
Opera has font rendering issues, particularly in its always-on overview mode. And it's bookmark management sucks. I don't understand why they made their browser have so little in the way of configuration options.
Dolphin HD is my favorite but Opera is definitely faster.
Firefox is a disaster yet with some serious issues. I hope they continue to work on it.
opera has tons of config options, if you go to "opera:config" way to much. But I do agree there are few options that I would like that doesn't exists. like disable page overview/preview, bookmark ordering, disable navigation bar. I have a phone and nook, both running 2.2, and same version of opera. On the phone I can disable the navigation bar but I can't do it on the nook. They must be doing some filtering of configs based on device type or resolution.

opera is faster, but the speed isnt enough to make me switch from dolphin hd. it just flows so much better. I dont like the gestures, but like the swipe actions with the shortcuts on the left panel. I also like how it goes to full screen when a site is loaded, and the address bar goes away once it's scrolled away. the tabs are also a joy to use.
Opera Mobile has now replaced dolphin HD for me. The great increase in speed and performance made me switch. I still hope Opera gets better tab and bookmark management though. Once that happens, Opera will easily be the best IMO.
Opera is a complete piece of trash.
The scrolling doesn't lock when you scroll up/down so it jitters left/right as you scroll down a page. It looks awful. Every other mobile browser in existence has this feature. Why did they leave it out?
Websites that are not formatted for mobile always load first in completely zoomed out mode with the letters at 0.5 font, regardless of what you set the "zoom" to in the settings. This means browsing around some websites becomes extremely painful since you have to zoom in a TON for every. single. page click.
And the worst of them all: on content heavy pages (ie when a website doesn't have a mobile version), after it finishes loading, the entire page just goes blank. Literally, completely white. The weird thing is when switching tabs, the tab preview still shows the content. But going back to the page and it's still just fully white. Reloading the page doesn't help.
Opera Mobile has "nice scrolling" but that's about it. What a bug-ridden infuriating, and not to mention HUGE (25+ mb) app.
From what i know, the Firefox Nightly Builds Fennec do support Hardware Acceleration, either by adding about:config string or nightly tester tools offer a Acceleration button.
But it looks like its not working due to "0/1. Blocked for your graphics card because of unresolved driver issues."
Someone ever had acceleration running somehow on FF Mobile ? Im using Latest Fennec 6.01 Alpha
So now that we have ics the next thins is optimised apps taking advantage of hardware acceleration.. so far iv found
Flash player ... videos work really well on 720p ... page doesn't lag to much either and on YouTube test page it mentions hardware accleration
Friend caster
Mx player
rom manager
I'm not sure how many are fully optimised
Any others ? Would love twitter and Facebook to add hardware acceleration !

Skype - scrolling through huge chat logs is smooth in ICS instead of slightly choppy.
