Hello, when y try to perform the point 7 of the following process:
Get RSD Lite 6.14 (recommended version) for Windows only.
Get the stock firmware file, make sure you pick the latest ICS firmware file here (7.7.1Q-144_MB886_MR1-22_SIGNED_CFC.xml.zip) for AT&T.
After successfully downloaded, extract the zip file. And edit the 7.7.1Q-144_MB886_MR1-22_SIGNED_CFC.xml file using notepad, and then remove 2 lines with getvar.step operation=”getvar” var=”max-download-size”
Open RSD Lite, open the XML file that you have edited before.
Turn off your phone, and then enter the Boot Mode Selection Menu by press and hold the following keys together (Volume Up+Volume Down+Power). Using vol down, scroll to AP Fastboot menu, and then vol up to select it.
Connect Atrix HD to PC via USB, your phone will be recognized by RSD Lite as MB886.
Now it’s time to hit the Start button, and please wait for about 10-25 minutes.
Once the flash process done, your device will reboot. Your Motorola Atrix HD (MB886) should restore to stock and unroot now.
I disconnected the cable, and now I receive the following message:
RSDLite: Failed flashing process. 1/23 flash partion \\gpt_main0.bin – Phone returned FAIL.
ATRIX HD: downgraded security version
update gpt_main version failed
preflash validation failed for GPT.
Each time that I turn on the equipment, I need to go to Fastboot menu and select normal boot.
Can you help me?
Regards
You made the same error I did. I tried to flash back to ics which it will not allow. From here you can either deal with the having to turn your phone off and volume up, down and power at the same time to booty your phone, or you can run the latest file that has been uploaded by the firmware team to get rid of it. Unfortunately this will put your phone to unrooted jelly bean with no real possibility of root at the moment.
The file name is MB886_att-user-4.1.1-9.8.0Q-97_MB886_FFW-20-27-release-keys-ATT-US_BuildA.xml.zip .
Good luck.

I forgot you need to edit the xml file and remove a couple lines. I don't have the file on this computer or else I would tell you exactly what they are. When you try to flash though it will say it fails on something like getvar just remove the lines that have getvar in it, there should only be two or three lines that need to be removed.

Last I heard, if you're on an att phone, do not flash the JB xml with RSD because of the locked bootloader. There's a thread in General under "Leaked 4.1.1 FXZ" where sometime tried flashing this and bricked his phone beyond repair.

So this will fix the Atrix HD that starts into bootloader everytime? I just got a replacement through Asurion 3 days ago and I messed up and updated to Jelly Bean before I rooted it. Then the nightmare began. Couldn't figure out the AHD Utility that was supposed to fix this also.
It was suggested I call Asurion insurance in a couple weeks and tell them I lost the phone before I could send it back and switch motherboards from the broken LCD phone with Rooted Jelly Bean. But I think they'd be able to track the IMEI and punish me for keeping it.
Please help!!! I'm freaking out and I'm sick of this black blob in the center of my screen. Thankyou in advance.
Can't seem to get this too work either? It requires a password to unzip.

And you have AT&T version of the phone? Locked bootloader? Just wanting to double check because I want stock right now as I'm not taking advantage of root and don't want to brick. Someone tried this and bricked their phone because it was intended for Bell unlocked bootloader phones.

You cannot replace the XML file unless you have a password to unlock the ZIP file to access the XML file.

I tried all of em for AT&T and not of them will work. The release for the fix is the one that keeps requesting a password when I try to unzip the file.
Is it possible to downgrade the AT&T Atrix HD back to ICS to root? I can't find any solid facts, some places say yes, some say no, some say look around to see anyone else's issues. I don't know where to look. I can't find solid facts and would like an answer.
ReverseZero seems to be saying no, Winiwini seems to be saying no, I don't know what to do. I have the RSD and ICS .xml, but I don't want to risk a brick or anything.

Hi, I'm having a lot of trouble getting open recovery to work on my milestone after flashing the brasil 2.2.1 retail rom.
The bootloader is the same 90.78.
Here's what I did.
I flashed a brasil 2.1 retail rom on my milestone and then used the motorola update tool to get it to 2.2.1.
After a few problems with the retail 2.2 (mostly the screen gets blank for a long time if a call is not anwsered.) i decided to go back to the shadowmod rom which I'm used to.
So, I downgraded back to the 2.1 retail rom, and then flashed the openrecovery found here code.google.com/p/shadowmodbr/downloads/list (MILESTONE_BASE_2.2.1.zip)
Used the open recovery listed there (used to work fine), placed the OR folder and update.zip on the SD card... and after everything was ready, I went to the recovery screen (holding "x" and the camera button) when I got to the Triangle+exclamation mark screen, I pressed VOL UP + Camera Button and NOTHING HAPPENED!
I tried the whole process again with the same result.
I found other VRs here on xda dev foruns, downloaded one specific for the 90.78 bootloader, about 3mb in size (the one on Shadowmod's site is 18mb big) but I can't flash it. RSD lite greyed out the start button once I select this file.
So I'm stuck, I can't get OR working, can't flash any custom roms, and I'm stuck with this problematic official rom =/
Anyone have any Idea about what can I do to get or working?
Do you get any errors in bootloader mode? If no, try flashing GOT 2.2.1 sbf file. Its got vulnerable recovery injected.
If rsdlite doesn't highlight the start button, try renaming the sbf file to something smaller.

Select anyone. Then flash CM or whatever you want over it using AOR. Don't forget to wipe all.
And if you need to flash only the VR in future, only use this.
You guys might think I'm joking, but I tried flashing every one of the GOT roms (flash went OK, no errors), the vulnerable recovery sleshn posted (RAMDLD90_78.zip, no errors flashing too), and I'm still not having any success getting into the OR.
I sent my milestone to motorola two weeks ago, could it be that they modified something on it to block this exploit?
The bootloader still says version 90.78, but I can't get into the recovery screen at all, isn't there another command besides Vol Up + camera btn to acess the OR?
I'm about to give up =[
I think Joe aka Zeppelinrox has created a script to get you into OR menu automatically. You can pm him. I will post the link here if i find it. I think it is in a thread called handy dandy fixes.

Oh, I so relieved now, let me hack this phone apart now.
THANK YOU GUYS !
Of course it works
I mean, I'm glad it worked for you lol
Glad it works
So what are you planning on doing to "hack this phone"?
actually, i dissembled the whole thing today, after I found out that motorola shiped it back with the camera button mounted backwards.. When I pressed it, is started the camera but wasn't really working.. after placing the button in place like it should be, now the open recovery works again by pressing the vol up camera and the camera button, as it should have...
I lost my warranty, but a was about to lose it this month anyway... I'm just glad everything works as it shoud now.
Motorola mis-mounted their own camera button? Sounds like some awesome support haha.

Thanks

make sure phone is at least 50% battery (or 100% just to be sure).
Be sure rdlite and fxz (stock firmaware) reside both within your hard drive (i used to pull those both from an external HDD) if by any chance the flash process is interrupted in the middle of a specific action, you might be exposed to brick your phone.

Did you make sure to unzip the xml file? Also, which firmware are you trying to flash? The xml is from the last update (77.12.22 on AT&T). If you are trying to flash an older firmware or are on Bell I can edit the correct xml file and upload after I get off work today.

Tried to flash the one in the post that was put up in your response to me. I did unzip the xml file. When I replace the xml file and try to flash in rsd lite is when I get the error. If I open the file...the whole thing is empty.
Sent from my MB886 using xda premium
I'll reupload the xml file when I get home. You said you used the firmware in the post. When you click the link in the post it should list 3 firmwares. 1 is for Bell and the other 2 AT&T. The AT&T ones are 7.7.1Q-115 and 7.7.1Q-144. The 115 is the original firmware the phone was shipped with and 144 is the recent update. The xml file is from the update. Which one did you use?
If you are still having problems flashing send me a pm with the apks you deleted. I'll send you the ones you need and you can push them to the proper directories manually.

Hi there!
I'm having the exactly same issue. I've tried flashing both firmwares (115 and 144) and always get error in RDS. Right now every time I turn off and turn on the phone again, it goes straight to the fastboot screen. It says:
Fasboot Reason: Sticky bit factory_fastboot
Anyway I'm still able to reboot the phone with the volume up+down combo, then I have to select Normal powerup in order the phone actually starts. All works fine once it's started but it don't get back to the stock rom. Making a factory reset or wipe data from stock recovery neither seems to work. Actually It even have installed some personal apps such Google Chrome or it still have root that I earlier applied.
If I want to try flashing the 115 firmware first, which line I need to edit on the XML file to avoid RDS errors?
Any help would be great!

Hey guys,
Long story short, I am currently on the JB Leak'sOTA update. Problem: My phone is a little slow and the Root Checker app says my system is running slow, I think my kernel or something is damaged from how I kept root through the OTA. I can't go back to ICS or the JB leak from where I am so my only option for a fresh start would be to flash stock Jellybean. Is this possibly yet? I know the bootloader is locked but are the Fastboot files available? I had already pmed a couple devs about this a while back.
I am getting my HTC One X+ this weekend soI can test any untested Fastboot files that have risk of bricking of Atrix HD. It isn't vital, I would just like to get it back to full speed if it's possible!
I'd use rsd lite and flash the sbf for jb.

I have sort of the same problem. Bought the phone with stock JB installed. Rooted with new exploit yesterday, left my brain in another room, and started uninstalling things left and right in Titanium Backup - of course without making a backup.
Of course now the phone is starting to act up - hardware wise - and I need to get it back to stock before sending it in to Moto. So would the sbf for jb be the solution, and where could it be downloaded? Also - would it delete that nasty "qe 1/1" message in stock recovery - you know, the one ratting out that you've been naughty?
Thanks!

"remember to edit the xml the same way" - I don't understand that part. What file am I to edit, and what am I adding/replacing?
You have a zip file right? If you don't, the FXZs are in zip/rar format.
You need to extract it. It contains the stock data and an xml file.
When flashing using RSD you have to point to the xml file.
Open up the xml using notepad, ctrl+f and search for 'getvar', there'll be two lines containing it, remove those lines and save the file. Continue.
It'll work without issues

Well that didn't work out too well...I was on stock JB. Rooted with new exploit. Installed bootstrap and custom ROM. Wanted to get back to stock, so I uninstalled bootstrap, and flashed MB886_att-user-4.1.1-9.8.0Q-97_MB886_FFW-20-27-release-keys-ATT-US_BuildA.xml.zip.
RSD failed with 'getvar' and 'oem'. I then edited the xml, removed 'getvar' and 'oem', and retried the flash. RSD failed at system.img.
I then booted the phone into fastboot and did the whole thing manually thru fastboot and terminal. This time everything went through okay. I rebooted the phone into stock recovery and erased cache. But now the phone is stuck in bootloop on the red m logo.
What am I missing?
Use RSD again, use 6.1.4
I remember mine failed at least 2 times, I kept retrying and it worked. Mine was stuck at the system.img too, just retried and it went througj

Would anybody mind uploading a zip file of their "/preinstall" system folder from their Droid 4? I'm missing some files from in there. Specifically the video files for the "Guided Tours" stock app. I must have deleted them a while back, and now I can't install the Jelly Bean OTA update.
I went back to stock, removed Safestrap and unrooted the phone to do the update. And when I go to do it, it gives me an error because those files weren't found. They don't seem to be in the Droid 4 Dump, so I guess I'm S.O.L. unless I can get them from somebody.
If I deleted those, I probably deleted something else from in there, so could you please send me the whole directory? I'd be happy to throw you a donation. Ten bones sound fair? Many thanks in advance.

I just follow the instructions? And do you know if this will allow me to re-root afterwards? Thanks in advance.

Thanks so much for the fast reply!
Yeah, I think I did read something about those utilities in another post. I'm kind of iffy about going that route, because I've never used them before, and don't wanna like seriously mess up my phone. Was hoping to avoid it, but I guess it is what it is.

Yes and yes. Just DL the utility and fast boot ICS file. Unzip ICS file and move files to the files directory of utility. Make sure latest drivers are installed and battery is full connect phone run utility select boot into fast boot then option 11. Choosing to save files still won't let u install the update. Let it do its thing.

You're awesome! Thanks. One more question (sorry). Should I unroot before I run this? Or does it not matter? Thanks again

Went ahead and did it last night, and it worked! After using this to reset my ICS stock ROM, the OTA Jelly Bean Update installed just fine. Thanks a ton. I gotta say, this online community rocks! I love how helpful and supportive everybody is of each other.
One minor note, I had to do this on my roommate's Windows 7 computer to get it to work. I couldn't get it to work on either my laptop or desktop, both of which have Windows 8. The phone drivers wouldn't install. Strange; I downloaded the USB drivers from Motorola, and they appeared to install, but when I plugged my phone into the computer, and went to use the Utility, it kept giving me a "Device not found" error. And also, when I checked in "Device Manager," it showed my phone with an exclaimation point and said that the drivers weren't installed.
When I followed the same process on a Windows 7 computer, the drivers installed as soon as I plugged the phone in. Weird; Motorola's website said that the drivers were for Windows 7 and 8. I tried disabling "Signature Verification" on Windows 8, but that didn't work either. Anybody know if Motorola hasn't released Windows 8 drivers for Droid 4 yet? Just wanna know for future reference. Thanks a bunch.
