Yes, there is a lot of reading to do, if you want to study it all.
I dont think SuperOneClick is meant for ICS, I will recommend you to look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028946
And then I would suggest you try option 2 in "How to get root". You dont need to download ICS, you already have it.
Good luck.

There are no long steps. Most of the roms keep you root after installing them, but just in case if you dont have root after installing a rom, just use Universal Androot because it's very easy and it's one click root(happens very fast).
I've already rooted using universal androot

All of the AOSP based ROMs (like CM) give you root automatically.
The issue you have is that you need a custom recovery in order to install the ROMs. These custom recoveries (OpenRecovery and drivatives) will allow you to do all sorts of neat stuff.
So, no...you don't need to re-root once you install CM7.
Actually, how do you lose root?
It's happened a couple of times that I run Titanium backup and it tells me that I'm not rooted.
It's an easy fix. I just goto AOR and do it again.
But I'm just curious as to how I can get unrooted like that.
But do we need to root for open recovery to install?

No root is necessary on a milestone (may be different on droid).
You just need to flash the vulnerable recovery and the install OR.

On most phone, root is necessary to install custom or vulnerable recoveries.
On milestone, there is no need to do this as this step is taken care of by the SBF flashing in RSD.

I dont know how good thyat guide is, but linking to an external tutorial is not going to make things easy if you need help here later.
Better use the one that is stickied in the dev section...

Maybe a video is easier. But i have been linking folks to that thread for a while and this is the first complaint i have heard. Good enough for hundreds of ppl...

You wrote that root isn't necessary to install custom rom but the threes says otherwise. Please have a look and tell me

That link doesn't work.
Anyway, I remember that I did not have to root the phone.
The first step was applying the vulnerable sbf.
Then I was able to load androidiani openrecovery.
Once in open recovery, I could apply a ROM without root.
Heck, I think root is just an afterthought during this process.
Root is just another menu item in AOR.... the hard part was getting into AOR in the first place.
For whatever mysterious reason, I lost root a couple of times over the last couple of weeks.
CM6 didn't stop working. Titanium backup did stop working but it was nice enough to tell me that I was no longer rooted.
No big deal. I just went into AOR and rooted again.
Edit: No wonder I had deja vu... I kinda mentioned that last bit on page 1 already...
Yeah for some strange reason the link isn't working I'll try and fix it if possible

You can also try find KDZ for your firmware and try CWM injection method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1512203) just use google to find your kdz. didnt work for me though
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22597935&postcount=3
Follow this guide and you can flash it over and over again and it will always be ready to root
What does that have to do with the V20J version that the OP asked about?????
I am also trying to root the same version for my girlfriend since she got a job at Koodo mobile and got stuck with this phone which with stock software is garbage compared to her old HTC Desire.
I've been searching for a while and not found anything to do with this software version except this post where you arrogantly told the guy to search first.
I've the same phone and the only way I managed to root and keep stock rom was downloading the v20j kdz file and following the cwm inject method. You'll have to find the kdz file, its here somewhere though
Edit: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/
Make sure phone model is selected and hit ok

I've since given up. I cannot find a working source for the UPK file to perform the CWM injection method. Also half the tutorials and download sites are in another language or converted to English making them less clear because of the translation.
Its my girlfriend's phone and she has no backup she is allowed to use at work so I don't want to risk causing it to be down for any amount of time. She will have to put up with it and bite her tongue when customers ask if she likes it, lol.

A friend tried messin around with his tab when he doesnt even know how to jailbreak an iphone 3g... The tab wouldnt even boot past the Samsung Galaxy Tab screen, but it was able to get to download mode... I used a guide to update it to gingerbread using odin, and everything went well! I opened odin, selected PIT and chose the P1_add_hidden.pit file, then i selected PDA and chose the P1000NVFJP6_P1000NUBJP3_P1000NUUBJPB_HOME.tar.md5 file, and i made sure i checked Re-Partition, Auto Reboot, F. Reset Time, Phone EFS Clear and Phone Bootloader Update.. everything went well, but on recovery it was unable to update the systemfile.. but everything else on recovery updated and installed fine! as it reboots, it gets stuck in the bootanimation in the part it says Samsung glowing.. did i do something wrong? how can i fix this? I am still able to get to recovery and download mode fine..
Use overcome method like described here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1855591
Btw, you should not have checked Clear Efs.
The replace bootloader too.
And best to use Odin 1.7 included in the gb stock safe in that link I give you.

thanks! will check this out now!
Why do some people think its rational to use absolutely ridiculous titles like "hlp plz" etc etc??
Please use common sense and use descriptive titles, ie a short title that describes your topic for people browsing the forum. "help plz" does not describe your topic in absolutely any way other then somebody using a completely generic title.

You a describing your friend to be a noob. Why are you yourself a developer? And do you even know the hard work required to develop a jailbreak for the first time? So don't talk about others' ignorance.

I´m in need of big help, i was rooting my device with smart flash tool and it all went well until the phone rebots and appears the message "security error" under the LG logo. What do i do?
Please help, it´s an emergency.
You can see alot of questions here with that security error issue. Just download a kdz of a gb rom and extract it. Then flash with sft

And will that make the phone usable again? Another question, why did that apear? My phone is locked to a company, and the ics rom that i was using was the original but for unlocked phones, it´s that the problem? Do i need to use the rom for the locked phones to be able to root it to ics?
It will. Aslong as you can go to s/w download. I dont get what you just said cause im no expert. i rooted my phone wth stock ics with unlockroot.com . but i have the ku5900.

My phone it´s locked to a company,(like at&t, vodafone, etc etc), and i was using the stock rom from lg (v30b), but for my country that version is only avaliable for unlocked phones, and i was using it.
Then you did something wrong maybe. I had that security error when i tried to flash cwm with ics.

If you're on gingerbread. Search for Megatron root in this forum. Otherwise ICS is out and is easily rooted.
