Just to make sure...
Have you gone into the Gmail app settings by hitting the Menu key from the inbox, then selecting More, then selecting Settings, then scrolled down to Notification settings and checked off the first item (Email notifications...Notify in Status Bar...)?
+1 same problem here
EDIT: oh yeah notifications are checked and ringtone is selected from system...?
My DHD sitting next to me gets the notification just fine but I've gotta refresh gmail to see the e-mail.?
i got a Bionic and for txt messaging i like to use handcent and on my old Droid 1 i just disabled all the Txt messaging notifications for the default messaging application. but when i tried to do that with my Bionic i cant find the option that lets me turn off the popup feature of the default txt messaging app. i first looked in the settings of the defult app but all i see is the toggle to disable the notification in the status. and i disabled that but i still am getting the popups when people txt me.
can some one help me. were do i go to turn off the txt message popups?
Are you talking about in the notification bar?

when some one sent me a text it would popup on my screen as well as the status bar i just wanted the status bar only as a notification as well as my ring tone.
but never mind i figured it out for some reason it wasn't holding the popup settings in Handcent so when i disabled the popup in handcent it would just revert back so i thought it was just the factory messenger popping. but i fixed it. problem solved.
In my xperia Z i am recieving twin Sms notifications.
What could be the reason?
network issues
Do you have a third party SMS app installed? It looks like the first notification is from the stock app and the second is from a different app, as the icons on the notifications are different.
Edit: The second notification icon looks like SMS Popup from what I can remember when I used to use it.

Definitely two types of messaging apps . Go to settings/apps find messaging, click it and uncheck show notification. Or you can just delete the messaging app that you don't use.

does anyone know how I can enable notification preview? for example when I get a new text or email the notification bar shows a preview of who sent the text and a bit of what was sent. I know when I was on CM 10.2 i had that feature. thanks!
go to the messaging app, click the menu button, go to settings, then the more tab. About half way down is "preview message", make sure that box is checked to get a preview on the lock screen and status bar

Also if there is room in the notification tray you can swipe down some notifications and they'll expand. Like for gmail if I swipe down it shows more and gives me the option to reply or delete.
Doesn't seem to work if there are many notifications present.

Hi, can anyone please tell me if it possible to allocate different tones to different notifications eg, I want my text message tone to be different from my email tone.
Thanks

Yes, just save the new ones you download in the Notification folder in your internal memory then they will show in the settings list.

To have a different text message sound, you need to go into the messages app, and at the conversations list, tap the " . . . " in the upper-right corner, go to Settings and tap the first option to choose a different text message notification sound.
Fyi I always have to reboot after I put new tones in either Notifications or Ringtones Folders before the new tones will actually show up in you're selection menus.
Anybody else?

You can use File Commander instead of the sound picker, there your new sounds will show up for sure.

Hi
Thanks for this, but it only works for text notifications and not email.

You need to change it in the settings of the email app.

Thanks. Tried that too, but it is not giving me an option to set a notification sound in the email settings list.
Here is how to do what you want:
- Go to the main "Settings" app
- Tap "Email" under the Accounts section
- Tap "Account settings"
- Tap the account name you wish to set the notification sound for
- Tap the word "Notification" (make sure the slide switch on the right is set "On" first)
- Tap "Select ringtone" to pick a tone
- Select the one you want and tap the "Done" button.
NOTE: these are for email accounts you use with the Email app. The Gmail app works differently - you change Gmail's notification tone using Gmail's Settings menu from within the app itself.

In the Outlook app, go to Settings > General > Notifications > Email Notifications > Tap the header "Audio Notification", it will now let you pick a sound!
