This does NOT look promising on top of the already established problems with the hard-/software Not amused.
Gotta love these threads complaining about softrware and hardware issues. The Galaxy Nexus is no charmer when it comes to hardware build quality. These are pre-release hardware phones, expect some issues...
But the biggest thing I have to say is that these phones are NOT running final release software. Has any review showed off the lock screen widgets? Have any showed on screen the multiple user switching of the Nexus 10? You can completely expect poor battery life and issues when running pre-release software. Google should have sent final release software and hardware, but it appears they are in a bit of a crunch to get this thing momentum prior to the holiday shopping season.
So before mentioning 'established problems with the hard-softrware issues' wait until final release is upon us.
I like how people assume just because it's not running final software that miraculously a software patch will make battery and performance go from crap to awesome. Like Google changed so much from 4.1 to 4.2 that performance and battery just dropped significantly? C'mon Also silly to think that Google would have this phone reviewed with bad software. I was all ready for this phone but am keeping my GS3 and waiting until next year. Stay hopeful for your patches though, you're gonna need them

That article is solely about potential hardware issues. Hardware is not likely to be changed since the phone goes on sale next week.

I'm not sure about that, I had high expectations concerning the GS3 and it turned out to be a huge disappointment.
(less Ram compared to the GS2, what a joke).
Until Samsung releases proper documentation Exynos devices are not an option for me anyway.
For a budget device I really don't see this as a huge issue of course they had to make some shortcuts to get such a low sell price. I'm still planning on getting the n4 on release day.
Sure is a bit concerning seeing things like this even before release, but hopefully things will be improved upon down the line with revisions and whatnot. Shame, on the outside its such a beautiful device.

Is that a review unit or a prerelease "With Google" version? Doesn't seem to say.
Wait for the device to come out guys. Wait for a proper teardown. Stop freaking.
AdamOutler is an awesome hacker but he is also a huge Samsung fanboy (like if it wasn't enough with the apple ones) so I take this article as a very biased opinion, I have a LG P500 since january 2011 and never had hardware issues or reception problems and of course I droped it several times.

Is it that hard to believe?

Apple recently released a patch to curb battery drain on their Macbooks too. I remember. I got the update a few months ago.
I believe the battery problems is purely software related and I expect that because android 4.2 is not finished yet and it will be finished and pushed out by the time the nexus products go up for purchase.
Not trying to be cheeky or anything, but do you have a picture of the snapped gnex? Sounds interesting.
On topic, I'm just glad the battery isn't soldered to something.

I've read many reviews on this device and so far it seems like it's the perfect fit for me, especially since LTE isn't available in my area. Cheap, well built and uses stock Android... Fantastic. Then I come here and I'm starting to read that it might not be the awesome device I thought it was... Overheating, poor benchmarks, bad battery life... These sound like deal-breakers. So before I retire my MyTouch 3G Slide (yes, I know it's incredibly old...) and buy one of these I must ask if this really does have some major flaws that can't be fixed by a custom rom. It still seems like the bargain of the century, but if it's not going to work like an android-powered quad core phone then maybe I should reconsider.
Sorry if this has been beaten to death but I haven't seen a post that sums up all of the issues with this phone yet.
There are no problems with it, these people just like to whine.. It will be a great upgrade for you

There have been plenty of posts that sum up the issues and answer your question
1. All reviewers were testing on pre-release builds of the software
2. Maybe all the issues get quashed by the time they release the N4 to the public. Then again, maybe not.
Since you have held out so long, I suggest you stick with it for a week or two more. But if thats something you can't do (I know I can't ), just go ahead and get one.
Given the fact that Google has oriented the Nexus more towards users than towards the devs unlike the previous versions, I doubt they will overlook any hardware issues with the phone. Software glitches, if any, will be fixed soon.
We can't see a ''verdict'' until we see the final product and ppl get their hands on it, as everything being told right now must be taken as speculation as it aint the final version of the phone...
Plus these phones being reviewed are not the final version being released on the 13th
Buy it. You won't be sorry. There's nothing else like it out there. I'm also coming from a very old phone (not as old as yours though) an Optimus V. The way I see it, ANY phone, even one with a few minor flaws, will be better than what we have.
Tapatalk² from my Optimus V
In before lock.
People in this forum don't even have the phone. This phone is going to kick ass. You think Google would choose a phone that had poor benchmarks, poor battery life for their Nexus line. All of this is coordinated and tested ahead of time.
Apparently this whole project was completed in 6 months.
Since they havent made a huge change from the physical interior and exterior of the optimus g, it really can only be better than it with the software.
Patience...
Petraman,
Wait for real reviews after a few weeks the phone is released on Nov 13, 2012. A good review takes time for the reviewer to actually "use" the phone daily and give us a first hand experience. That is what we are looking for when we read the reviews. The early reviews information you should take from them is the hardware analysis only. The software needs time test.
I think it's going to be a great device. I'm coming from an LG G2x, and believe me when I say that LG makes GREAT hardware. It was just the software which sucked. All the reviewers are biased, whether it's towards Samsung or Apple. If anything, you can just return the Nexus or get it exchanged if anything is wrong with it.

This. If anything (on the software front) could be fixed, it would be fixed by the XDA first. :good::good:
The verdict is that its not released yet.
Even from the reviews I don't see a single 1 dramatising even one of those problems as much as the people who cry on the forums (and haven't even held one).
Plus, any day of the year, only Anandtechs review is worth anything. They have always been unbiased, transparent and complete. Anand is like a robot.
What verdict? It's not released for consumers yet, order starts on Nov 13th.
Pretty sure we've got enough of these types of threads OP, feel free to continue the discussion in one of them :good:

nvm some one beat me to this here
It said it was running KLP in the settings, so I wonder if the software on this phone is older. It's possible that it's running an earlier build of 4.4 for developers and in house programmers. Google switched over to that whole "kitkat" marketing ploy so quick, I doubt it was a huge concern for the devs to change the name in their test builds. It's hard to tell what leaks are real and which are faked, but this one was pretty legit looking since we got to see the hardware itself. I wonder if the previous leak from this week showing the translucent on screen buttons and weird phone app icon is real. Either way, the build quality on this phone is really really nice. I can't wait to order one!
I had posted earlier about no Remix 3.0 for the Mini. Am I missing something here the Mini is only a matter of maybe a few months old and they have stopped supporting it already? This seems to me like a very poor way of doing business. Could you imagine if Microsoft announced that they where going to stop supporting Windows 10 after only six months? I tried to warn them about Allwinner during the Kickstarter everything I have tried from them has been junk plan and simple. Allwinner also has terrible support. But I expected more from Jide. I also have inquired with Jide if they intend to offer a discount on the new Rockchip Mini for the Kickstarter supporters where they have pulled support after it just being released. I like Remix OS but I am now skeptical about purchasing anything more from them after this.
You are not the only one. I paid $50 for a box that is inferior(besides the flash quality) to a $36 box that is apparently supported by them, and now I see on top of the box being inferior, support will be dropped for it too.
Pretty stupid.
Also the idea that you have to hardware mod to get root? No.
I understand frustration. But I use my Remix Mini every day (I Heart Radio, Tune In Radio) and occasionally Kodi, Netflix, various TV network apps, etc. Does all I ask of it and more. For less than $50. Would it be nice to have Marshmallow, or 4k video, of faster processor? Sure, but none seem to improve what I use it for.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I see it okay for what I use it for even though after a couple of hours of use it gets REALLY hot and SLOW, to the point where I have to restart my Mini.
I would hope that updates would help it just run smoother so the lack of support sucks and causes me to look at other alternatives. Lesson learned on a 50$ experiment.

yeah but that lesson learned netted them over 1.5 Million and now they are just dropping it and expecting people to by a new model when the old one is only 8 months, never mind that they falsely advertised the 4K and can't even reproduce the digital audio AC3 out without glitches...
I thought of that but there is not much I can do at this point. I have been thinking of just installing the RemixOS to a i5 NUC of some sort.

Unfortunately I have 3 of the Mini's and while keeping one may be okay I definately don't need the other 2 but I could not in good conscious sell the others to to somebody unless they new the remix before hand...
To anybody interested in the other 2 I would sell them for $20$us each plus exact shipping. Barely even used except to make sure that all 3 worked when I got them and give them their recent updates. For $30US each I will throw in one of those mini keyboards with the Touch mouse and backlite for each one

no point at the mo (no audio over HDMI) jide won't fix it coz its not their problem . so you might have to wait for MM release of remix to see if that's been fixed .

Hey wastate2014,
Really sorry to hear the disappointment evident from your post. The Remix Mini won't be getting Remix OS based on 6.0 anytime soon due to the Allwinner chip not supporting Marshmallow. This I've probably mentioned to you before.
Supporting Remix Mini is still something we're actively working on. There will be a test version going out to testers within a couple days and after it goes through testing, it'll be released as a public OTA update for all Mini users. If all goes well, I'd say testing will take around a week. Thus, we do continue to support Remix Mini, though we do have our resource challenges as a startup.
As for everything you've tried from us being junk, please let me know exactly what it is that's been bad and I'll do my best to make sure it's fixed as long as it's within my power to. Can you pass on a private email through PM here and I'll contact you about your issues.
Lastly, we will work harder to make sure our earliest backers, esp on Kickstarter, know we're listening and we value you. I'm sorry to anyone who has felt let down by us in any way.
Jason

Sooooo, not sure what the update did, but there is a new update if you opt in to receiving the testing releases. Still no root like you get by default in MM, which the Mini won't get.
I'm really not sure how this happens, but I'm done. There's no "rectify"-ing this beyond taking returns and providing refunds I don't think. And I would not expect that, of course.
So, I'm done. Anybody want mine, PM me. It's mint, and updated to the latest FW.

mine has been sat in a drawer for the last 2 months hugely disappointed with jide "rooting your mini will void your warranty" poor excuse. this device should have come pre-rooted simular to the way cm roms are. the people on xda are by nature tinkers and you jide actively dennying root access does not endear you. (a half pre rooted rom is still not good enough).
for most people the "P" in pc means personnal as in yours to do with or customize as YOU see fit, however in the case of the remix mini i think it means "pwned" by jide.
i had massive hopes for this device and remix but sadly have moved on.

It's somewhere around the update window. 3 dots to click that give you settings to accept testing releases. I don't really see any point, unless they will offer root on the testing releases, maybe.
And still, I won't be bothering.

I have bought many android devices... (meson/s802h/a31s/805/3188/3288/H8 ) some cheap.. some expensive
Expensive doenst mean good.. in many cases.. (and more cores doesnt mean faster computing)
-Most android tv boxes have no support what-So-ever, But with some support from XDA\freaktab\Libre-elec... most of them got to be quite good
The Remix Mini is just a average android device.. (hardware wise) But with good support and a great User Interface
The have earnt my respect.. ( with Remix Mini support / releasing 32bit for older pc hardware...giving a new spark to android x86 project )

Hi to all SM-G900F fans and for all developers!
I'd like to introduce this topic to discuss about the possibility of the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F to have the new Android 8. Knowing about some amazing improvements that were made to the new Android 8 that will arrive soon, I'd like to know the following:
[ALL FANS] - What do you think about our S5 SM-G900F having an Android 8 ROM? With a booting time cut in half, with app performance increased in double, with drivers available to update, etc.? If that will be possible to the developers apply to the S5 SM-G900F, it would be great or not?
[ALL DEVELOPERS] - What do you think about the idea of creating an Android 8 ROM for a great 2014 phone? It will be possible to do that with all improvements that were claimed for the new Android 8? It will worth that huge effort?
As you can see I love this phone, no doubt about that. But, my wish is to have my Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F running Android 8 with all those features that were claimed to have in the new Android OS. If that can be possible, I think it would be amazing for this phone! Because I think the hardware is still good to support newer software and it would be very nice to see an excellent quality/price phone like this to match new ones.
I hope my wish can became true. . .please do not let this phone R.I.P!

"booting time cut in half, with app performance increased in double, with drivers available to update" Idk if it is possible, but it will be quite hard. Yeah, you're absolutely right and I apologize for my behavior. I was only excited about that I just decided to try to share my feelings and thoughts with the XDA Community. I love XDA Developers. It teached me so much about everything related to Android over the years. However, I must follow all the rules and have a good behavior so please feel free to remove/delete this thread.
Once again, I'm sorry for having opened this thread. Just a BIG "thank you" to all developers for the hard work they always do and for all members that share doubts and solutions for everything related to Android.
Best regards,
Lu

It's alright to discuss about such things, but never push devs beyond what they can do. You simply show disrespect and it's one of the main reasons why devs give up creating something new.
Regarding Android 8 (Android O), I don't think it's going to be an easy task to port it to our device. At first, on Nougat was hard enough to make everything working (camera being one of the main highlights, since N has a completely revamped camera interface under the hood, like different process handling and stuff). I can't imagine, what O actually brings to the table and in no way it's going be a walk in the park.
And neither battery life nor camera is going to be as good as stock. Blame Samsung and Touchwiz for their closed source nature.
Even if it happens, camera will still suck. Why flash something that makes your phone worst and unstable, just to say that you have the latest android version in "phone about"
I don't know why you are so hyped about it, it has really small changes since Lollipop...

Of course not. It's about to have all the NEW features in your OLD phone (if possible, of course). I think there are several phones (like the Samsung Galaxy S5) that have plenty potencial to run newer software. Besides that, one teacher I had, one day, he told in the classroom that there's no limits when programming, it only depends on our imagination to create solutions. I'm nobody to say that his words are correct or not, but I believe if there's will and hope that things are capable to be made.

I'd love to see Android 8 on my S5. It is true and it will be always true that the stock TW camera is the best one. It has slow-mo and 1080p60 video (I know that OnePlus camera has 720p90fps slow-mo, but that's not that great comapared to the stock.) But in my opinion, for some picture shooting, it is a great camera with the stock Lineage camera as well. (Maybe one day someone can find Samsung's driver).
Besides that, the S5 runs great with the latest 7.1.2 Android, and I believe that it will run as fast (if not better) with Android O.
Definetly hope for an upcoming information, devs: take your time, make a great rom.
I don't see anything wrong with this topic? The guy just asked if it's possible lol He didn't tell you "MAKE IT NOW!!". About stock android 8 - no. Stock android is boring, even Samsung's version of KitKat has more features than the newest stock android from Google. But some sort of port from, let's say, the Note 8 or the Galaxy S9 would be awesome in my opinion. There already are S8 ports for the KLTE which work with little bugs that will be fixed soon (SkiesROM) or ones that don't really matter that much (DreamUX ROM). Hardware is more than capable. iPhones have super low hardware and Apple updates them for 4-5 years ahead. This means that 'old' 2014 hardware like the S5's can be used perfectly fine even in 2020...with the right developers. BUT, nothing beats official Sammy firmware. Sure, you'll get the new features from android O(reo?) and the new Note8/S9 but bugs are inevitable whereas TouchWiz 6.0.1 is fine in every aspect. I'll stick to my S5 until 2019-2020 and then buy a new S10 or S11 (xd). I just hope that Samsung bring back the features from the S5 like IR blaster, fingerprint scanner on the front, hover view in the gallery and video apps, etc. FM Radio won't hurt too (still envy my S3 Mini for having it, 1%=3h radio) :|
