Hi, Yesterday my phone got wet in my pocket in a rainstorm. I took the battery out and put it into rice for 12 hrs approx. Then took the phone apart and dried it using a hair dryer.
After an hour, I tried to turn it on. When I place the battery, it turns on automatically, shows Semaphore Splash Screen and Galaxy S logo, but restarts after a few seconds (<5 secs).
Tried to go to Download/Recovery Mode, it goes but the phone restarts, again.
I guessed it might be a battery problem. So I tested another one. After placing it, the phone shows a charging sign which is odd because it's not connected to a power source.
Has an ICS Slim v4 Custom ROM + Semephore v2.7.4; if it helps.
As you know, I can not flash a new ROM 'cause it's not stable in Download/Recovery Mode.
Is there a hardware problem here? Which part?
Any help would be appreciated.
It is possible that water is still inside the switches etc.
I'm not sure if you know these little bags that sometimes are inside of the packaging of stuff you buy. These little bags are moisture absorbers.
I would go to a computer or musicstore to check if they have these around in their warehouse somewhere.
Then if you have these bags lock them up with your phone in an almost closed (plastic) case for a couple of days.
TL;DR, phone dropped on the floor, flat on screen, no damage except for a ratling noise in the bottomleft corner of the phone where the vibration is, which i didnt notice until after i dropped the phone. Charged a few times, but refused alot of the times, now it doesn't charge anymore.
Right now, every time I connect the phone to a charger, it starts showing the red LED, vibrates non-stop, until after 15 minutes it stops vibrating, giving fast pulses of vibration to slower pulses, and for the last 30 minutes, while connected to my laptop, it gives off a medium-soft vibration every 5 seconds, slowly degrading to every 20 to 30 seconds after half an hour.Interestingly aswell, it vibrates very strong for the first 30 seconds, than vibrates normally for the next 15 minutes before it stops vibrating. It's very consistent in this behaviour
Full story:
I bought the phone April 2013, and it was working fine until somewhere November 2013.
The percentage of the battery wasn't consistent at all. It was jumping every few seconds between e.g. 70, 73, 67. 60, 70, 71... sometimes it fell down to 23%, next thing happens, the system gives me a pop-up "Shutting down". It shuts down normally, I boot it up normally, and that's pretty much how it went. I made backups, continued with the use. Sony Customer Care tells me that I should update it/reset to factory settings.
I connected the phone for an update, and as the phone is updating, it shuts off because of the problem stated above (even with cable...).
Phone bricked, sent it April 2014 for service because I had a different phone and I was too lazy to send it back.
3 weeks ago I got my phone back, fully working (Yaay, right?). 2 weeks ago, I was sitting, doing my natural business and put the phone on a shirt I had at the window. The slippery phone pretty much slides from anything that's soft and has the slighest angle, so my phone starts sliding super slowly, and 10 seconds later it hits the floor screen down.
It fell so perfectly flat on the screen, on the perfectly flat tile, that the screen is still perfectly clean and there is no sign of damage. But, the phone was off (it was on before it fell). Shocked, I boot the phone, and it boots, with a sense of relieve I continue using it. However, I did hear a rattling noise from the bottom-left corner where the vibration is located (vibrator... hihi).
Here's where the new problems start...
Day 1, I shut down my phone on 15% so I save battery for later, for pics and such. Suddenly when I try to boot it, it tells me the battery is too low (a few red led flashes). 1 hour later, it turns on with only using the power button.
Day 2, I use the phone normally, phone drops to 2% and just waited until it would shut down by itself. It didn't, stayed like this until 1%, to where I have shut it down and plugged into the USB cable.
Day 3, The phone didn't show any LED, and when I would reconnect it to the AC charger, it would show the red led for about a minute and go off again. Phone stopped charging... Later I tried the car charger, still nothing. A few hours later I tried the car charger again and suddenly it started charging again to the full 100%.
Day 5, I had the phone in my pocket, and had to drive for about 60km. The phone was at 30%, and I found it to be turned off, showing me the battery is low through the red led. 60km was about 30 minutes, so I sensed something was wrong here. It didn't charge again, nor through PC or AC charger, not even the car charger.
Day 6, I tried the car charger, and again, it started charging, got it again to the 100%. I'm just browsing in the afternoon at 51%, and my screen turns black. I press the power button to light the screen, but it blinks 3 times red. I put the phone in the charger, nothing... Later that evening I put it again in the charger and left it for an hour, and the red LED finally showed! Well, the red LED was lit for at least 12 hours and the phone didn't respond to anything.
Day 7, It did vibrate 3 times when it tried the Power Button + Volume down, but blinked red again and no response.
Day 8, I started pressing the phone gently, and it started to vibrate on pressure. Pressing = vibration, release pressure = vibration stopped. What?? It could keep this up for about 5 minutes before it stopped.
For the last few days i try charging it occasionally, but the only progress that I got, is that the phone started vibrating non-stop when it was connected to a power-source, and the red LED was lit. First it would stop vibrating when I pressed the sides of the phone in a certain way, and just lay there silently with the red led. Now it just vibrates non-stop and there's no helping it.
It's very consistent in this behaviour.
So, I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/help/hardware-fix-xperia-z-charging-booting-t2760911
I contacted Sony Support, they said there are no VOID indicators in the phone, as they will be able to tell if there has been a person in the phone. There's an unauthorized service nearby who can order OEM Xperia Z parts, so I doubt it they will notice. When I asked if I would still have warranty after the unauthorized service, but they would be unable to tell because he/she used OEM parts, they simply said "You will lose your warranty", because they probably couldn't contradict it.
Judging from the symptoms, do you assume it's a dead battery, or could it be someting completely else? It dropped, something rattles and it gave me a hard time charging it, but still it worked. Note that I used the phone intensively for 6 hours before the screen went black at 51% (fairly the same as using your phone to 0% and suddenly it just turns off).
I don't feel like losing my phone for 30 days again, nor getting my data wiped (ALWAYS BACKUP, I was too stuborn not to, even though I had plenty of chances...), and i'd rather just pay a few bucks to get my battery replaced (about 50 dollars). The time and data is worth it, there is a shop servicing Sony Xperia's after warranty, so at least someone who knows how to fix these phones.
The back-cover is not water resistant anymore as the glue detached because of the excessive heat from the processor. So I might just open up the phone and see whats going on anyway?
Hello
My screen cracked so I ordered a new on ebay. However after I have put the phone back in its shell the top part gets pretty hot. I opened it and started it without the aluminum shell to test and there were no heat? Anyone know what it might be?
Thanks In advance!
That isn't likely to be the screen. My phone gets warm too. About 4 days ago out of nowhere I noticed the upper part of the screen feeling warm, it turns out my phone had stopped sleeping properly and Google services had resumed chomping on my battery when the screen was off.
Tho when i don't keep it in the aluminium case it's not warm at all, turned on and I have logged on my simcard/wifi. I have left it on outside of the case for 1 hour and it don't get warm at all. However in the case it gets super hot as soon as it boots and then after 15-25m it turns off probably because it's too hot
Happened the same last night with me.
Put a download and slept, and in the morning it was all drained of battery and it showed that it shut down after minutes after I slept with 90%battery.
It was weird. Had to keep pressing power button for 40 sec approx for the phone to turn on.
It's working fine now though
did anyone of you even read my post? I said after a screenreplacement. It didn't just happened randomly. however i fixed it. I removed the camera and the earspeaker and reinstalled them used some alcohol on the contact points on the case and the earspeaker and it seemed to fix it if anyone has this problem later down the road
Hi jullleee, I have the same problem as u after I replaced the screen. The phone getting too hot on the top (one plus 3). On charge it becomes more hot and faster on very high temperature than without charging. Also the battery dont charge . Why did u reconnect the ear speaker and the camera ? Thank you in advance

For anyone coming across this thread I just had the same problem when replacing my Oneplus 3 screen. It seemed to work, and I plugged it in, but it said "battery too low charge for a while", then I got the 0% and seemed to charge and then restart, and then be back at 0% and be stuck in this boot / charging loop. My battery had died hard when my screen died so I thought maybe it just needed to charge for a while, but the top half of the phone got very hot.
So I took it apart again and it turns out the issue for me was with the top ribbon cables that cross the battery. Where they connect to the main board was very tight and it was difficult to get both of them in place properly. Usually they kind of overlapped and one stuck up slightly. It was fixing their placement before bolting down their cover that fixed this issue for me.
Edit: Never mind. Still searching for my issue. Taking the back case off will let it work normally but whenever i snap it on it goes back into this charging loop, I still suspect it's an issue with these two cables and the case is putting pressure in the wrong spot or something but I'm not really sure yet.
I had the same problem, the issue was the fact that i plugged the ribbon cable the other way around.
Hi all,
About 3 days ago I dropped my Xperia x Performance in a lake. It took me about 15-20 minutes to retrieve it as it was night time and I dropped it through the crack of a dock but it was only about 5 feet deep. After I took it out I wiped it off and saw that it was still on and apparently working fine (waterproof phone right?). The next morning I noticed condensation under the camera and also while browsing the phone it would constantly switch to the camera app (within about 5 seconds of opening chrome). So I took the back off it and blew a hair dryer on low heat at it for about 1.5 hours and then put in my oven on dehydrate for an hour. In hindsight I realize this probably wasn't enough time to fully dry it but I put the back on again and turned it on and it worked fine for 2 days.
Today while using it at work the backlight suddenly cut out. About 1 minute later it came back on. I went to fiddle with the display settings and then the backlight cut out again. It didn't come back on. When I got home I took the back off again, took the motherboard out and washed it in 70% isopropyl alcohol and gentle scrubbed it with a toothbrush. Then I took all the parts and put in my oven on dehydrate and left it for about 5 or 6 hours. I put it back together and nothing has changed. The backlight still doesn't work, but otherwise the phone appears to be working normally. The LED notification indicator and charging indicator are working. I can use the camera button to take pictures (I hear the camera sound) I am receiving notifications. If I look very closely I can read notifications in the lock screen and I can power it on and off, but as soon as I try to unlock it I can't see anything because it's too dark (I wish my screen background was white!).
Is there anyway I can fix this? Please help I don't want to buy a new phone.
I was washing my xperia z like always; but this time some ports weren't completely unreachable by water cause they weren't like the first days, anyway the water went in and i could see a little water under the phone screen, also all the water indicators became pink.while the phone was working for some minutes; and then after minutes xperia shut down. but I could still turn it on; and it shut down after seconds every time.i also couldn't charge the phone. or it will be charging weird!(like it instantly became full charge ...) . and also i did sth silly in this time, i changed the battery and replaced it with a new one(i still don't know why i decided to do this in this situation:/).after that i tried again and this time the phone doesn't boot anymore.after showing those purple waves it shuts down. it also doesn't kind of charge anymore. cause when i plug in, the red light appears , and it charges for one percent then stops...anyway i decided to stop trying.I opened the phone back again and then removed battery, opened all the ports and put it inside rice bag for about two days. now it is still the same story(shutting down after waves) ... what should i do?
well, in short word...you're late.
If that happened to me, I'll turn it off, open all ports, remove the battery and put the device inside a rice bag immediately. We don't know where the water go and what component will break.
If you have another good battery, try it.
If it still the same, then all you need is a new phone.
