Hello everyone,
I have an annoying issue with the proximity sensor of my Galaxy Note. I have searched around but I can not find any answer to this common problem.
Regardless of the rom I am using, including the stock rom, the sensor fails to work - so the screen is not turning off during calls even though this setting is enabled.
Also, I have tested the proximity sensor using the tools on android app market as well as testing with the inbuilt one - always reads 0.
Any idea how to proceed? I am sure this would help a lot of people...
Have you tested it using the *#0*# and test the proximity there. May be a hardware failure

I did test it there. I get the same problem - just reports 0.
Does that basically mean the sensor is dead?
May be

Noticed this 'interference' since I first got my phone (Aug. 2010).
I've just attributed it to interference and have never worried about it.
mine does the same

hi, i am using cm7 nightly. in stock rom *#0*# works to get a menu where these calibration things are. but in cm7 its not working. my compass is not working right. can any one tell me how fix it?
You don't need a software to calibrate it. Just draw 8 on air with your phone a few times when you wan to use compass. It works perfectly for me.

Is it possible that front camera work and main camera dont? I changed camera and the result is the same. I changed menu custom ROM and nothing, only front camera work (only with app named Camera MX). Now, I install stock ROM (2.3.6) and the same thing. Any help or suggestion?
Guess its hardware faulty mate
Software will never solved hardware faulty.

Like compacity said, it seems to be a hardware thing ,not a software bug ...especially you have tested different Versions (Stock and so on...) ...
Maybe is main board or something else because i changed camera and the other one is work the same.
But everything other is work properly..

Hi guys!
I tried 3 apps that can use your phone's gallery, browser, lockscreen and call accept like in s4 but none of these work.
Is there a problem my proximity sensor?
Or its another weak point at 4x?
What you get with these apps (air call accept and air swiper)? Are they work for you?

I tried both apps and both of them are not working for me unfortunately. Proximity sensor is working because when i answer a call and put the phone next to my ear the screen go black. So that means that proximity is only activated when you are talking wizh someone.

And are there any way to turn on proximity sensor?

There isn't a problem with turning on, it's the lack of the sensor, it only supports two distance modes - sensor is covered ,sensor is free so you have to put your hand nearly touching the screen, so wave Is a big problem, it's not being detected most of the times, only by really slowly moving the finger across, I tried other apps with the prox control, and that's the result.

What sensors, do you mean proximity sensor, front camera sensor or ambient light sensor?

Simply dial *#*#7378423#*#* and go to Service tests and you will get options to perform different checks like light sensors, proximity and others sensor
If you want to check via an app you can use CPU Z https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cpuid.cpu_z
When you go to the sensors tab it will show you what your phone sensors spit out.
As for the proximity sensor its 1cm standard and when you touch the top of your screen (between the camera and the speaker) its should go to 0
try that
Thanks everyone.

You are welcome but if CPU Z does not recognize your proximity sensor you might need to flash the original 245 kernel from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2367488)
using flashtool!
