I bought a galaxy note GT-N7000 on March 10th, 2012. Today while using the phone, it automatically switched off. I thought "ok fine...just an android glitch" and switched it back on. But as soon as it turned back on and the home screen appeared, not even 3 seconds later, the phone screen flickers for half a second and the phone instantly turns off. This keeps on happening if i turn the phone on again and again as it switches off, but when I connect it to the charger and turn on the power, the phone doesn't turn off. So now, I cannot remove the phone from the power supply and Im freaking out! :crying: Oh and I tried factory resetting the phone twice but it doesnt solve the problem! ANY help would be a life saver! I have not rooted my phone and it runs samsung's stock ICS and I dont even have any launchers. I use my phone as clean and careful as possible; its been 9 months and I still havent removed the laminations on the back panel or the charger, so you can imagine what kind of guy I am! Please HELP ME, im panicking!! Thanx in advance!
First of all stop doing a factory reset on stock ICS kernel as dont know when your phone will get bricked.
It could be a pins contact probelm in the battery compartment. Remove the battery and check if the pins are fine and touching the right places. Clean it ... or the battery just died on you and need a new battery.

1st. Do not factory reset or format anything if you still on stock ICS kernel.. You phone will brick.
2nd. Try new battery or borrow from you friends.
omg! I didnt know that factory resetting on stock ICS can brick your phone!! Thanks for the precious info! I checked the terminals...they look brand new...so does the terminals on the battery (I rarely had the need to open the back panel). I will try another battery and get back to you guys. Thank you so much for your help!
Id bring it back for warrantee if I were you
I am also having same problem, my problem arrived once I flashed my note with 4.1.1 JB ROM.
My note powers off even it is above 90% of battery, if I try to connect 3G data.
If I start it same it powers off after 3-5 seconds on home screen.
If I connect it to charger and start it; it works fine even if I disconnect charger once note starts.
It works normal until I connect again to 3G data ot battery drains below 40 -30 %
After 40% it randomly power off or some time works till full battery drain.
If any one have solution please share.
Thanks in advance
Back from service center. Dead Battery and replaced mother board.
Hey guys, I gave my phone to the service center on 26th and got it back yesterday. They said that they replaced the main board and said that the battery is dead and they had lost 2 screws of the mother board which I found only when I came home and opened the back body by myself (opened cause there was a minute misalignment on the back body). I replaced them with 2 screws from the back body for now and have to take the phone to them again or buy those screws from some electronic shop. They also said that they don't have a Galaxy Note N7000 battery in stock and so did the other service centers here in Chennai, India. I tried searching for it in almost 7 to 8 cellphone shops but surprisingly nobody has stock of it! Can a year old phone's accessories just disappear so fast? I also tried ebay.in but all of them sell it in loose packing with seller warranty which makes me think twice about the genuineness of the product. Any advice as in what direction I must proceed now?

It might be a problem with your battery. My phone gives the problem described above because its battery is completely dead but works fine with a different battery. But my friend who has our same phone has a puffed battery and has the problem that you described. Also his battery drains faster than a normal GT-N7000 battery and sometimes switches off while playing games or doing other tasks that consume more power. Just try to use it with another battery and see if the problem still persists.
guys check the accessory section, there are some batteries suggested as well as vendors if you want new batery.
If warrantee covers it try that first. If like in above example they dont have in stock demand an alternative, especially if its covered by warrantee. You have rights you know.
A couple of days ago I ran into the same issue with my 10 month old note...
Not able to fully boot up phone... After 3 seconds since the power up
It was shutting off.
Battery was showing charge.
Got a new battery... Everything perfect now
Youve got a problem on your battery..you can try that using a new battery that should fix your problem if the problem still there, take your phone to the ssc

My Galaxy Tab this evening seems to have started experiencing a rather catastrophic problem. I boot the thing up, and then within a few minutes it powers itself down.
It seems to be confused about how much batter power it's got. I have had it on the charger all day long while I was working. About 15 minutes ago I picked it up to have a play, and the next thing I now it was telling me it had no power and was shutting down.
But I can immediately start it up again without any problem. It boots up and shows almost full charge. However, within a few minutes it shuts itself down. Sometimes I see the battery indicator go flat before this happens.
Actually while typing this up, it has rebooted a couple times. While off it first shows no power on the "off, but charging screen". However, it then quite rapidly goes to full charge (according to the same screen).
This happens while the tablet is both on and off the charger.
Has anyone experienced anything like this or have a clue?
This is, btw, a Galaxy Tab I bought from a Car Phone Warehouse in the UK (in case that makes a difference). It has the stock ROM on it -- nothing done to it except installing way too many apps.
Any tips on what to try to get it back in working order? Perhaps some sort of hard reset? Or is this maybe an actual hardware problem?
(alas, I won't be able to visit the Car Phone Warehouse until Monday...)
I hate to say it but the term "defective" pops into my head.
Have you tried doing a factory reset just in the slim chance that some piece of software is causing this?
The battery on my GT has been great. The issues you are describing sounds like a hardware defect or the actual OS having a problem reading the battery. Neither are going to be good for you.
As a technical care representative with T-Mobile I would have to second that. Anytime the phone shuts itself off and does not reboot on its own typically means a physical power issue such as the battery. If the phone rebooted itself I would say likely a software issue. It never hurts to try the master reset though. My tab is due to be delivered on Tuesday so I am keeping my fingers crossed I don't have any similar issues. Best of luck to you.

Dear
1. please try hard reset by
*2767*3855#
remeber that it will erase all your internal storage. Back up all data before do it
2. If this cannot solve your problem, you need to upgrade to latest version

I wouldnt bother trying to fix it return if you can as it is defective. I bought my galaxy from CPW too have an issue with losing wifi and data connection constantly so i will be paying them a trip for an exchange.
I got the same problem. Just unplugged after a night, it can show me 0 % left and shut down.
And I can turn it on, and then it shows me 100%.
I think it have happend 4-5 times in the last 3 weeks.
Hmmm maybe it's time to upgrade the firmware.

Same problem here
I bought my Galaxy Tab on November 3. It worked well for about two weeks but then I noticed that when the battery indicator reached about 40% it would drain the remaining charge very rapidly. It basically went from 40 to 3% right away. Today I could actually watch how the battery indicator gradually went from 75% to 0 in about 5 minutes. When I started charging the battery level was at 91% so I guess the charge is there but the pad doesn't recognize it some how.r

Thanks everyone for the advice.
Oddly, within about a half hour of leaving the office last Friday, my Galaxy Tab magically sorted itself out. I do plan to visit the store about the problem and see what they say.
I suspect you are right Scott, and others, that I'll be best to just exchange now while it's still new... Let's see what they say....

YEAH, Same problem HERE >.< this TAB just run out the battery after i charged it, i charged in the night, unpluged in the morning at 9am (100%), play some games, download with 3G, listen to music, and the indicators show around 60% and i open some games, than it just show 3% need recharged (araund 12pm), weird, need some help here... after i see 3% battery, i turn off n turn on again, and it shown 48% again until now... O.O' Heeeelllppp... >.<
Occasionally the battery dat file becomes corrupt.
Try this ~ With the Tab screen off Press & Hold the Power Button AND place your finger on the screen.
Wait until you see the battery indicator pop up.
Now power down the the Tab and then power back up again.
You should now see a correct battery readout.

The Tab powered fully down first, then power up whilst touching the screen.
This should bring up the battery indicator and hopefully now rectify the battery dat file.
Once done power back down and then restart the Tab.

I had this '40% to 3%' or '30% to 3%' etc battery problem before. I searched around for a solution and Beards' instructions above was one of them. Unfortunately, none of the proposed solutions worked.
For Beards' above, turning off then turning on the Tab while pressing the screen did not reset the battery stats database.
I tried many proposed solutions... a factory reset, deleting battstat.bin file, 'bump charge method' etc... all did not solve the issue.
Finally sent the Tab to the service centre and they upgraded the firmware. Samsung service centre claims that it is an issue with Froyo 2.2. They claimed Froyo 2.2.1 solves the issue. Can anyone verify??
After the upgrade, my battery problem is gone now, no more irritating '40% to 3%' issue. I am a happy man now... only for the fact that now I have a firmware with a protected bootloader.

Yes, I have heard of this being a more wider problem and that as you say 2.2.1 corrects the problem.
Interesting you couldn't sort out the problem by deleting the .bin file as the method I mentioned is supposed to reset this (tip came from a tech at Samsung) and has been used successfully by some members over at Android Forums.
It's also good at reviving a 'stuck' Tab, one which when you switch it on it either will not fire up or stays at the glowing Samsung sign at bootup.

I turned off my tab completely, then place one of my fingers to the screen, while pressing the power button. And NO, there is no battery indicator showing up at all. Rather it goes straight to the samsung intro.
And, why did you say 'hopefully rectify battery dat file". Did this kind of battery indicator thingy happen by chance?
Did you know 'wipe battery stats' method from recovery? Whats strange is, I've tried this method on my tab, and there's no usual status messages showing that 'wipe battery stats completed' or such...

i Jeremy, if you are adventurous, you can try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986067&page=4 , currently, I am monitoring the status, so far so good. Now, I am doing my second charge after battery drained to 19% (I can't wait for it to go to 0% ). Before did, I will not be able to reach 19% and sometimes, the battery will prompt me to shut down due to battery left 3%, in actual fact, it is 30%.
Regards,
Hello, I first wish to say that I did a basic search and didnt find any info. maybe I searched wrong since this is first time this has happend to a phone I know of.
second I don't have time to do a full extensive search, sorry if it looks like I didnt search but I did.
Anyways here to the problem:
What happend? Well the Note just died. from simple usage. the screen is all black, won't boot at all, can't even see any lights. (Got Desire HD, Tho I don't remember this phone had a charging/signal light, but I believe it has)
The Note is my mothers so she wanted me to look at it.
There were no problems during flash or, rather it wasnt me who flashed it. but got it pre-flashed of tradera (part of ebay) and nothing was wrong besides old rom, was waiting for full drivers ICS since I havn't seen one for the N7000 so I havn't flashed a ICS rom since my mother needs the most support but anyway
I tried taking the battery of and putting it back again (Fixes 90% of my problems!), I tried fail-safe booting it. I am kinda stumped on what to do, so if know whats the problem and if its a cheap one I will be happy to do it. hopefully its not a motherboard replacement... :-( then I will cry...
Edit:
It turns out it started working with 25% battery after being having battery taken out for 1 hour, and was in the wall socketed charger for 7 hours. YAY!
So it just died in middle of using it normally?
You didn't do any wipes or such in recovery and then it didn't start after that?
Skickat från min GT-N7000 via Tapatalk 2
I am not sure there is enough detail here to be able to help. But if it does not go to download mode with the usual ways or with a USB jig, then it will need to go to samsung repair centre, or you could try to JTAG first.
But if it is a result of a bad bootloader flash, then JTAG might work. If its due to a bad ICS kernel flash, then motherboard replacement is most likely.
Hope it works out.
First of All, it doesn't have ICS yet. (since i havnt found a good kies ICS yet that everything works on yet, havnt checked the past few weeks)
Second, it died in standby mode, during work when she was gonna take a picture for her work (she has card that allows usage of camera during work place in volvo)
Third, it wasnt during flash or anything. I will have to check the phone with shidapu when he wakes up... ARGH HIM! for not having normal mornings where you wake up around 6 or 7am...
I believe it didn't die during middle of usage but when the phone was in power save or whatever its called when the screen is black and not phone in use but in operations
I guess JTAG is the only option, but how does that work exactly, if possible please do link
because my computer can't even see the note when I am connected to it with USB. can the battery died? since I don't know if the note can be powered up without battery. *tried connecting without battery but no luck :/
Try to remove the battery for a couple of minutes and then insert it again and connect the wall socket charger and wait up to one hour. The Note has a charging animation but if the battery is totally drained i think it won't show directly.
If you having troubles finding another battery to test with you can always come by Astra in Mölndal and try mine as i see that you are living in Gothenburg.
Jtag is a service in that someone solders small cables to the mainboard and reflashes the bootloader on a low level. But this is only if you know that you have failed a flash or such, don't think this is the case here.
I did send a SGS2 to mobiletechvideos in Texas for that service, and i really do recommend them and thier great service.
Good luck.

if shidapu can't fix it that is (irl mate of Shidapu) he know a bit more than me about Droids
sadly don't have have a extra battery I believe, but I do what you said, I will pull the battery off for now, and when I see the phone next time I will put it in and wait a hour. if all above fail, I might P.M. you that i might be visiting you =)
edit, connected to a wall socket, does it make any differs if I use my HTC wall socket charger?
umm..mind if i say something....?
well u can use any charger since u need to give charge to the battery.. but recommended is charger for note.
Next i had a problem with my battery as well. try to put the phone on charging (there ain't any charging light on this phone ) but you'll see an animation of battery. if it shows up don't worry your phones safe but not the battery but if it doesn't then i think there's some problem with the bootloader or the kernal ...
Hiya guys, after having the Note on charger for like who knows 7 hours or so...
I actually could boot it! YAY! got into the droid as usual.
But there is one wrong thing... it says 25% battery left. orange...
now it says 26% =)
Well I guess I have to reset the state of the battery? (battery-memory wipe or whatever its called?) if thats possible, if so is just simple CWM? (does Note even use CWM?, I am a HTC user and it wasnt me who rooted that device as I mentioned earlier so I dunno what recovery software there is for samsung)
Well Anyways, might be just some faulty battery. guess I have to order a new one if it does it again.
maybe u should take the battery off the phone for a while and try to charge it without booting the device . maybe then it will work fine. just do it three or four times whenever you charge your battery. this way the battery will charge efficiently without it's use on the phone... i hope you got it since i am not able to type well today as i am right now a lil bit anxious about my notes problem

I believe i mentioned it started working. Charging it after removed battery for a hour or so fixed it. took a long time tho, 7 hours for 25% full battery. (26% short after, well samsung are known for their extreme long battery load times... galaxy tab 10.1... that was a device that took over 2 hours to charge...)
It might need a new battery.
The same thing happened to my Note yesterday. It was last charged on Saturday and, with light use, after three days it still had around 50% battery charge remaining when I went to bed on Tuesday night. Yesterday (Wednesday) morning I tried to wake the Note and it was completely dead. Of course I did not expect a flat battery, given the usual discharge performance of my Note. I removed and replaced the battery and hit various buttons and absolutely zip. I connected the charger and again no response. Nothing lit, no beep, nothing.
It's probably worth mentioning that I'm on the latest stock Samsung ROM and unrooted. I really thought it was FUBAR and would need to be sent off for repair. Anyway, I do have a jig so I plugged that in and the screen woke up, so I knew there was some sign of life. But still it would not boot.
Anyway, to cut the story short the battery was as dead as a dodo. I don't know why. It should not have been. I left it on charge from the AC charger and after a short while (a minute or two maybe) the charging symbol appeared with a hazard triangle upon it. It took over 4 hours to finally make it to a fully swollen 100%. The phone is almost exactly six months old and this is the first real scare I've had with it.
I only bore you with the tale because it might give hope to people who think their phone is bricked when the fact is that nothing worse has happened than the battery has gone (unexpectedly) very flat. Right now, 27 hours after I finished fully charging it the battery is down to 92%. That's the sort of performance I am used to. I will leave it without further charge for another few days to see if a similar thing happens again. Hopefully not.
yes i know u said that it started working. What i am saying is that whenever u want ur phone to charge switch it off and then charge(this way it will charge efficiently) . just follow it 3-4 time when u charge it and your battery will be on the right track(i hope that works). my note takes upto 1.3 hour (nearly) to charge completely from 10%. and when it's switched off it does the same in 45 minutes... what a difference!!!
try it and if it works for u then this way would be a best alternative to replace battery for charging issue (of course if ur device is still under warranty you should opt for a replacement).
hey guys, my rooted 2.3.4 stock gingerbread optimus black doesn't come on unless plugged in to the charger. the issue started 3 days ago when i was playing virtual tennis sega and it was connected to the charger. at first my phone got very hot and then it restarted.i continued playing the game after it restarted and it later got hot and again went off, but this time blinking as it went off. i removed the battery and put it back but it remained same. i later removed the battery for a whole day and inserted it back the next day but it remained the same. i later plugged it to the charger and it came on and booted all the way to my home screen. i could even use the phone normally, but anytime i remove the charger it goes off. also, anytime i put on the camera while its plugged in it goes off and shows the battery icon charging. i have done a factory reset but its still the same. please help me.

Hey,
My Galaxy Note recently decided to stop charging. Whenever i plug the charger in it shows the "first white charging logo", the one you see before the green battery being filled up - after about half a sec the logo goes away only to return 5 seconds later.
I've tried to blow into the socket, and i've looked into it with a light to make sure nothing seems off, and everything looks perfectly fine. So far i have tried with 2 cables, one third party and the original one, no difference there. Both these cables work well with my Galaxy S2. Therefore i am willing to say for certain the problem is in the actual USB port, which i find weird because I've never mishandled it in any way.
Another thing is the battery gets warm after cycling like this for a few minutes. I tried to take the SGSII-battery and fire the Note up, by holding the battery in place according to the connectors, it fires up perfectly.
Do any of you have any experience with these kinds of issues?
I am currently running Paranoid Android Hybrid-ROM, I guess my only real option here would be to borrow a friends charged battery to flash back into a stock ROM and plead ignorance with the warranty claim. The phone is no older than 4 months. Does anyone know how thorough they are when placing an RMA on a phone?
Thanks, any input greatly appreciated.

Hey,
My Galaxy Note recently decided to stop charging.
No I did not infact, I'll give that a go and see if it helps. The problem is the SGSII battery doesnt fit completely, so i need to hold it by force at the pins, not sure ill pull that off while entering the recovery menu, but i'll try and see!
Edit: Tried it and it did not help unfortunately. At least i can use the SGSII-battery to safely get into menus etc.
Hell, might even be a broken battery?
I interpret the problem as "charging starts but battery refuses.." since the 1st logo keeps flashing. I read elsewhere that it might be a moisture-related problem aswell.
This I do not disregard completely because the phone has been lying near an open window, even though it's summer it cannot be fully ignored.
Either way, in the other thread they suggest putting the phone in rice (which soaks up moisture) for a few days to see if it helps. I even put one of those silica-anti-moisture-bags in there with the rice. Fingers crossed.
If nothing helps I think I'll just borrow a mates charged battery to flash back into stock, get rid of evidence etc - and place it in RMA.
Why don't you try a new Note battery or from another Note. If it fired up with a Gs2 battery perfectly then it must be your battery!

Leave your phone without any battery for about 30 min., this helped me when my phone was refusing to charge somtimes and was giving me discharging while on the charger, after i pulled the battwry for about 30-45 min it is perfectly charging now, btw iam on paranoid also and my phone doesnt charge when it is turned off, have to turn it on frist to charge

easy fix
hey i had a similar problem...was a bit frightened at first....ok connect your phone to your computer, if the computer recognizes then you cables and USB port are just fine.....this means that your phone has some firmware issues....ok here's the simple fix......allow your battery to die completely, then remove the battery from the phone for about 30 minutes......plug in the charger with the battery still out of the phone for 30seconds....now unplug your charger, reinstall your battery into the device and connect your charger again.....this may also work if your device refuses to power on....
Well, have been so many months reading this forum, I had never need to post anything cuz everything was on there. Now I´m facin a problem, my Galaxy Note 1 GT-N7000 from 2 weeks battery level drops fastly, like 1% per minute, when was at +-5% the screen starts flickering. Then, this problem continued until it just didnt charge. I bought a new battery and works for 2 days, then the same problem. Did a factory reset, reinstall ROM, calibrate battery, clean caché, data... EVERYTHING for discard software issue, im using Android 4.1.2 Stock ROM with Root acces.
Firts I thought it was the battery, after getting the new one (seems to be original) and the problem continued I think about the USB mini port. Then I switched my uncles GT-N7000 battery, and his battery works fine on my phone, the only detail is that it didnt reach 100% and it was connected for hours, it just reach 92% and when reached 61% it stops for some 30 minutes. Meanwhile my Note's battery on his phone reach 100% but the charge just lasts for 90 minutes.
My questions are:
Can my phone be damaging all the batteries that get connected with it?
Can it be the USB mini port with a short circuit or may it be my motherboard?
PS: Te performance of the device is OK, smooth, fast, opens everything (camera, flash, sounds great), its just the battery level and uncharging. Its out of warranty Would thank any help or suggestions.
Your battery is old. You need to change it to new one and everything will be OK

I suspect a hardware issue, you'll have to go to Samsung Service Centre to check it out... use Triangle Away and unroot before sending it to repair though.

Smack that "Thanks" button if I helped you!
Yes a dodgy USB daughter board can damage your battery.
The daughter board manages the charge rate under the oversight of the kernel.
I have replaced the daughter board on my N7000.
See here for the full story.
There are a lot of cheap copies out there that don't work well.
The safest solution is to get it replaced at a Samsung Service Centre.
If you're under warranty, flash a stock ROM and unroot.
If you're not under warranty then just unroot.
