Hey guys,
On my stock rom (leaked JB w/ OTA) it seems kind of laggy and when I use root checker to check my root I have root but it says "System appears to be running slow" or something like that. I thought it would be fixed when I installed Joker 1.0 rom with safestrap but I have the same issues on that rom. I thought it was because of how I kept root through the OTA update to leaked JB, but recently it dawned on me that maybe it was because I played around with the XDA user app "One Power Guard". It is an app that modifies your kernel to save battery. I had uninstalled it because I didn't want it and maybe that is why my system is always slow. Is there anyway to flash a new stock kernel that will work with Joker 1.0 rom or my stock JB leak with the OTA?
Thank you!

Hi, I rooted my phone to install the hebrew fonts and it works great.
The phone is factory unlocked, I rooted it as I said and set up recovery. I am pretty sure I saw something about super user while doing that but not sure.
So when I try to install the n1 torch or other mods via the market after installing them I just get a black screen when running them saying it is accesing SU and then it crashes.
Do I need to do anything else or is it possible that there are different ways/versions of rooting the phone?
If I do need to something to update the SU will it delete all my current settings and apps? When I rooted the phone I lost all my installations and settings.
Also, can I safely install any OS updates now that the phone is rooted?
Thanks!
You need to to enable root access to use apps link N1 torch... aka. super user or su... to do this, either flash a cyanogen, enomther or madcao ROM or flash modaco's superboot boot image...
If you want to keep everything as is and just enable su, use the superboot boot image... you won't loose any setting or apps...
As long as you have the stock ROM, you can install all OTA updates even if the phone is rooted... else, if you installed a cooked ROM, you might have to wait for the cook to include that in his ROM (Of course, this is generally earlier than OTA updates)...
Thanks for the reply but I think I already did that while rooting the phone I double clicked on 'install-superboot-windows.bat' while in recovery mode.
Is that what you mean or am I missing something?
Also ,what do you mean by the stock ROM?
Thanks!
I have Clockwork on my phone but when I try to install the new software from Sprint (available yesterday) it stops and goes into Clockwork Recovery mode, thus killing the installation. How do I get this update on the phone?
Good question, would love to see a answer on this aswell, i'm rooted, though still on the stock rom, but i just thought of something, might have to do with not having the stock rom, i'll have to look into that.
I heard the update is to fix the lag in the dialer app...I don't have any lag and wont be trying this out in the event it removes root.....

It does remove root. Well not so sure it removes but I know it blocks the exploit that allowed us to root using [APP] [ROOT] 1-click root for N1 (Latest ver: 1.6.2 beta 5) I root with this on my phone before the update, and tried to root my wifes with same app and it was blocked! So the new update is a little more than just a dialer fix!
Hey guys, every time I restart my phone, and it goes through the process of checking storage and everything, I get a little hash symbol icon in the top bar that says 'su binary outdated' when I click on it, it doesn't look all that safe but it pops up every time, im worried if I go through with it it may be a virus... I rooted my phone with z4 root and installed lag fix v2. Anyone got any advice or guarantee that it is safe? It wants to down load a file when I press update but I *****ed it ang closed it...

Its the super user binary should be safe as almost everyone is using the super user app. It enables root permissions to the apps you want. Should update to v3.0 i think, ive done it no problems so far...

I just upgraded my FW via Kies the other day from 2.2 to 2.3.3 KG3 and lost my root in the process. Have not rooted it again yet as been trying to sort out the best way to root with KG3 - seems some people having problems with speedmod (my root kernel previously) and KG3.
I still have the superuser icon and i'm getting the same message as you to update it - I have hit go ahead but it won't because I don't have root access but if you are rooted it should be safe to update it.
As soon as i root my phone again I certainly will....
EDIT: flashed .tar file found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211939&highlight=haloimplant&page=19
and rooted again no problemo. still on same kies-upgraded KG3 stock firmware. Superuser updated with busybox and TiB updated. now to find a decent kernel/rom....
I am new to Rooting. I have never done anything to my device besides install the updates as Verizon makes them available.
Are there any good guides to doing this?

Hi!
I'm new and I can't post in the main discussion and I need help about rooting...
I bought my D4 in USA (to use in Europe) and it comes with ICS, Rsd Lite provide this description:
Software Version: 6.7.2-180_DR4-16_M2-37
Flex Version: XSAMASR01VRZNA025.0R
Bootloader Version: 0a74
Btw, I downloaded the Tool, RSD, Drivers.
After drivers and RSD (by my old motorola experience), I successfully connected my phone, with debug on and MTP.
I tried to root with the tool (function 9) and it seems everything fine...
I've got superuser, but it doesn't work properly...so I don't know if the root was ok or not...
How can I check the situation?
Thanks

If all you have done is root your phone you are still on your stock Motorola ROM. Maserati is just the D4's code name. Now you have the option of installing safestrap recovery and custom ROMs but it sounds like you just want to be able to remove some bloatware apps. You do NOT want to uninstall apps on your stock ROM. If you do you will be unable update to the latest over-the-air updates without flashing the ICS fastboot files. Use an app like Titanium Backup to FREEZE apps.

Thanks again...so I have root permission and Titanium Backup just works perfectly...at least I would like to remove all the apps of Verizon and also unuseful for me (like Amazon, MOG, Netflix...).
At the moment I don't want to install custom ROMs...what is safestrap recovery for?
What does it mean that I will be unable update to the latest over-the-air updates? Can I UNINSTALL the apps with Titanium Backup or should I just FREEZE? SOLVED
Thanks!

Safestrap recovery is a custom recovery that you can boot into that allows you to install custom ROMs (AOKP, CM10.1, etc.). So if you're not interested in custom ROMs don't worry about it.
What I was referring to when I talked about not being able install the latest OTA updates is that if you change anything about the stock system, such as uninstalling a verizon app that you wouldn't normally be able to uninstall, when the next update comes along, like Jelly Bean, it will fail when trying to install. That is why, in general, you should freeze instead of uninstall.

I'm having a heck of a time getting root on stock dok2.
i have super user in my app drawer but root explorer says it apears i dont have root. I cant delete system files. what gives? got beast kernel
I am having very similar issues with stock kernel. Still trying to figure it out.
I flashed my phone to the new CM Remix 17 rom which is rooted as well as Marshmallow 6.0. We'll worth the update. I am SM-N910T DOK2 and have had zero issues so far. There's a post in the development forum with the link to everything.
CF Auto Roots website has a new release for this phone if you want to check it out. Saw it there the other night

I was having some similar issues, try turning off "mount namespace seperation" in the supersu settings, then reboot the phone it fixed my issues.
