[Q] Lost trying to install Cm10 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i am want to do a clean install of CM10 but i am lost and confused.
I have Gb stock Rom 2.3.6 pda: XWJW6 csc: dbtjw2
1- How can i root my phone? I tried everything but i can't. I read in some threads that i should use SuperOneClick, Cm10 thread says that i have to use CF-root...
2- Which version of Clockworkmod Recovery should i use? I have 3e-recovery, is it necessary to install CWM?
3- Do you recommend me to use another kernel, or stock kernel is fine?
4- Are the followings steps correct?
a) Root and install CWM
b) Wipe Data (I dont want to backup my data)
c) Install Cm10
d) Install Gapps
e) Install Kernel (If necessary)
Thank you, and i know that all the info is in other threads, but i am confused!.

Just flash cf root kernel using Odin to get root and cwm recovery. Then flash the cm10 zip and gapps.

Semaphore kernel is inside the CM10 zip so it will get automatically installed when your flash the zip.
Yes CWM recovery is built into cf root kernel.
Also when you flash the Cm10 zip remember your phone will restart almost straight away and go into boot loop. This is because the partition layout is being changed.
Just reinsert the battery and boot into recovery again. Flash the cm10 zip again and this time it will finish installation.
& its no problem

Yet Another Question About Flashing

Hey Guys
I Know you get quite a few people ask what I'm about to ask and yes I've searched but since the touch version of CMW has been declared dangerous at the moment I thought I'd ask.
I'm Currently on "N7000CPWLP5" Stock ICS and I want to install "KingDroid ICS NoteMania v7.3"
1. What recovery is safe to use to install?
2. Do I need to flash a different ROM or GB before going to "KingDroid ICS NoteMania v7.3"?
3. Can I just Copy the ZIP over, boot into stock recovery, use some zip of CMW, reboot recovery, do a Nandroid backup, wipe data/factory reset, install from zip, select "KingDroid ICS NoteMania v7.3" then install? Or is it different on the note (Previously knowledge from previously owned ZTE Blade)
Thanks
Jamie

DO NOT use that temp recovery, best is first root using new method in dr.ketan's thread and then flash custom ICS kernel using mobile odin, it will also install cwm recovery to your device and then you can flash Kingdroid using cwm recovery.
You can also root and flash cwm recovery together by flashing custom kernel using pc odin if you can handle yellow triangle
Thank you I Will now try it!
I've used it before it was unknown to damage/brick but luckily I was safe!
Thanks Again

After rooting via flashing a custom kernel of your choice, you can download Triangle Away from the Google Play Store to get rid of the yellow triangle, if you cannot bear the sight of it!

Last week I've been running Crash v8.2, it's a nice rom. This is the way I installed it:
1. Download Abyss4.2 kernel and save on sd
2. Download Crash rom file and save on sd
3. Boot in recovery mode(home+pwr+volup)
4. Install Abyss 4.2 kernel
5. Advanced > reboot recovery
6. Wipe data/factory reset
7. Install rom file
8. Reboot system
After step 3 its a good idea to do a backup(nandroid) in cwm recovery if you haven't already.
After step 7 you can install HydraCore 3.5 again if you want it back, it works fine with Crash. Im actually using 3.5oc on it.

You can probably do the steps without flashing Abyss4.2 Just telling how I did it. I've made it a habit to flash Abyss4.2 before wipe since it's proved to be safe with wipes and stable with installations over a long time.

I have read here at xda, in description for HydraCore 3.5, that it should be safe to wipe (data/dalvik/cache) on this kernel. But thats all I know =) I would like to believe it's safe when they say so. But I have not tried myself yet.

[Q] I have rooted my device but I want to flash the CWM now

I rooted my device and I want to flash the CWM is it okay to flash it through ODIN right now? If so can you provide me the .tar file to install the CWM and at last is it correc that the CWM can make a full system backup because I wanted to flash the CM10 nightlies (I do know that to flash the CM10 I must have flashed the CM9 first) and some people said the CM10 isn't really good and I wanted to backup my system so if I didn't like the CM10 I can go back to my stock android
What rom are you on?
You will need to change the kernel to get cwm. If you are on rooted ics, you can install speedmod or philz kernel to be safe and get cwm.
Then you can make a nandroid backup and install the cm rom. No need to change the rom to cm9 if on a safe kernel.

what the kernel you have on the phone?
there is a possibility to use cwm temporarily. so u don't need to flash an other kernel:

Yes but install a rom using that may prove dangerous if the rom has bad updater script. This can be used to install a kernel.

[Q] Custom ROM on STOCK Galaxy Mini?

Galaxy Mini running Android version 2.3.5 (Gingerbread)
How do I install this CM10.1 ROM on my phone?
I've rooted + flashed ROMs before on my i9100 but it appears the Galaxy Mini process is much different. Help is greatly appreciated!
Does the Mini have to be rooted prior to installing CWM or custom ROMs?
As far as I know I simply plug my phone into computer, download a CWM file and flash it to phone with Odin. Then I drag the CM10.1 zip file onto the phone and using the CWM recovery menu, flash the ROM?
Thank you in advance

I don't understand what you are meaning here. I asked in my original post the instructions for flashing CM10 onto my Galaxy Mini and whether or not the steps I outlined above are correct or if I am missing something.
Ya thats right, but u before must do hard reset, cache and dalvik wipe but i think u already knew that

First root it , then flash cwm tar file in odin as one package , and thej you can put custom rom on sd and go to cwm recovery wipe cache/data and cache partitation. Then just install the rom zip and there you go.
If you dislike the rom just flash another and if your tired off custom roms flash back stock rom

[Q] Unlock bootloader to flash cocore?

I'm going to flash cm10 on a friend's i9070..
I'm planning to do this:
-Flash "root.zip" with stock recovery
-Install universal kernel flash
-Use above app to flash cocore
-Make a cwm backup just in case (with cocore's cwm recovery)
-Do wipes and flash cm10 and gapps with cwm
Do I have to unlock bootloader or do any other extra procedure?

You don't need to do anything like this to flash CM10, not even the root.
Just flash the CM10.zip in stock recovery

You do need a custom kernel and recovery to flash a rom! Just 2 other little things: make sure your friend is running jellybean and not gingerbread, and flash cm10.1 or cm10.2 because cm10 has been abandoned from a long time..

I wasn't sure about procedure, because all my smartphones were sony..
Yes, bootloader is pure crap (mine is not-unlockable) -.-

Is this procedure the same for any rom?

That is just for CM. And do not install 10, flash 10.1. 10 is abandoned. You can wipe dalvik cache after you install CM, you will get custom recovery.
You can go back to stock JB by restoring nandroid backup - the thing you told that you do not need. Or with flashing stock Firmware with Odin.
Let me check if I'm ok:
-Flash root.zip to use titanium backup and save all installed user apps and data
-Flash CM10.1, CM10.2 or roms based on any of these (searched in youtube for roms and JellyMOD 4.0 seems to work OK)
-Turn off, turn on in custom recovery and do wipes
-Reboot and everything should work

P.S. I think JellyMOD is outdated. It is made way before most of the things are fixed on CM. I suggest you CM10.1 d-h.st/168
