how do u unbrick? - Motorola Droid 4

how do i unbrick my droid 4? i havent seen a video on youtube and droid forums.net doesnt have a thread about one

A stickied thread in the Droid 4: Tech Support at Droid Forums definitely has what you're looking for, but anyways...
1) download the official ics fastboot files
2) place your phone into fastboot mode and connect to the computer
3) flash the xml using RSD lite
And for me personally, the only way I can get it to boot afterwards is to use the stock recovery and install the ota zip

What is not working? Did you follow the instructions that are stickied in the dev section (how to install custom recovery, roms, etc)
Sent from my Milestone using Tapatalk
yes mate i did followed instruction properly
when i flashed vulerable recovery.sbf using rsd lite the process was successful but when i tried to go to recovery mode the custome recovery didint ran and i was having the normal recovery mode..i think that the sbf file i flashed was not the one i need?? plz help mate i have trashed my milestone even further need to install custom mod like anything
It happened with me too. You do this-go to androinani (might be spelled wrong) page on xda developers, its in motorola milestone android development and then download open recovery from there. Then connect phone to your pc and first extract files from the .zip you just downloaded and then put them in your sdcard. Then boot into normal recovery and press apply update.zip.
See if this works. I had the same problem but now I don't have it.
Note that you download open recovery from the website given on the androidaini page only and then try.
If you have any further problems PM me.

Can you get into safestrap or bootstrap and did you make a back up? If so you are in luck.
Have you tried the quick unbricking script in lieu of RSD Lite?
www.bit.ly/D3UnBrick
Just download the 450ish MB .zip and unzip it to your desktop, connect with the stock USB cable, boot into AP Fastboot, then double click the "CLICK HERE etc." batch file.
What are you using for a bootstrap? The droid 3 bootstrap or safestrap? What were you on prior to flashing, and what did you attempt to flash? What were your steps EXACTLY?

Good call here. I only jumped to quick SBF/FXZ because he had tried RSD already.
**Side note** When RSD failed for me a few times previously, I put my nuts on the chopping block and just closed it out and restarted RSD to run it again, against all warnings.

EternityProject Fla**** D4 Edition: RSD Alternative for Flashing

Welcome to EternityProject's Droid 4 RSD Flash Alternative Thread!
What do we have here?
This is an alternative to the RSD Flash, for those who not want to install and use RSD Lite, or for who've got problems with it.
Details:
RSD Lite is using XML files for interpreting what file it has to flash and passing the commands to FastBoot. We're going to flash this manually, without passing from RSD.
How-To:
1. Copy the FastBoot package into the ROM you've extracted
2. Boot in AP FastBoot Mode
3. Connect your Droid 4 to the PC
4. Execute "FlashME.bat" (Windows) or "FlashNIX.sh" (Linux)
5. Enjoy!
Download:

I tried using RSDLite and I was still stuck in a bootloop... then I decided to try this method since the other one didn't go anywhere... it just gets stuck in recovery without doing anything.
after flashing the fxz you may need to go into stock recovery (power down then power back on and hold both volume buttons and power on) and wipe data and cache, then reboot.
that should fix the issue.

CWM recovery?

OK here's the deal, I have my phones boot loader unlocked and its rooted, now I want to install cwm, on all my previous devices I did this through ROM manager but atm our device is not supported there. However I saw a guy on here (can't remember his name) use a twrp recovery from the photon q on our device, can I do the same with cwm in ROM manager? Or are there compatibility issues?
Sent from my MB886 using xda app-developers app
They used the photon for cwm. Don't do that though. Use our official one located in the development section.

Do this but replace the cwm.img in "*\Myth Tools\tools" folder with the one from this thread or just use the one from that thread up front, no need to hassle with replacing files or anything. Go to the thread I linked, download the file, boot your phone into fastboot and run the command from the thread inside the folder the cwm.img is in.

Thanks^ I completely forgot to include that :highfive:
I'm going to jump on this thread too.
I'm having issues, I can seem to get CWM to install. I have rooted/unlocked. I replaced the cwm with the newer one. I used the myth tool to reboot into Fastboot, while on the unlocked screen, I ran the recovery on the tool. The phone restarted, but I figure out how to get to cwm recovery, or if it even worked.

Thanks for your help, it much appreciated. However, I think I'll have to bow out now. This stuff is over my head. I was really hoping to get PA on my phone, but I'll just have to settle for TasKarou launcher for pie controls. Thanks for everybody's help.

Don't give up just yet. It's worth it to get custom ROMs on your phone.
Do a search around the forums here and you'll find a custom build of a CWM based recovery by mattlgroff made for this phone. Flash that to recovery with fastboot and you should then be able to flash custom ROMs without fear of screwing up your phone.
You may also want to flash a stock firmware with RSD-Lite. (not the recovery!)
Some users have had issues with GPS not working until after you flash stock and then go to a custom ROM after getting a GPS fix on stock. I don't know if that is still necessary or not, but it's something to keep in mind.

Do I have to erase my stock recovery prior to flashing cwm?

[Q] where can I find custom recovery for my rooted and unlocked Atrix HD

We Have Rooted And Unlocked MB886.
Want To Install Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 But
Can Not Find Custom Recovery... Neither Twrp Nor Cwm Has It......And I read That Safestrap Is Only Good For Locked Devices....Is That True?
Which Custom Recovery I Should Install And Where Can I Download?
Also Gapps For 10.1.3 Cyanogen is Version 20130812 Correct?
If you search in here you'll find it very quickly man.

Or if you can upload file to this topic...I see recovery for Atrix 4g and RAZR etc. but not for attic HD....so..please advise

Am sorry am still confused....I could not find ....is it recover.img? Or if you can tell me what is the post number on that thread?...that thread has about 96 posts
Sent from my MB886 using xda app-developers app
The original post (first post) of the thread SVLAN posted contains the download. Flash the .IMG in fastboot and voila.
Edit: Realized that thread has a flashable zip. You need a .img to flash to your recovery partition THEN you can flash the zip in SVLAN's thread to upgrade to CWM touch (recommended).
Flash the .IMG found here first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41908134
Make sure you unlocked your bootloader first! If you aren't unlocked, search for Myth Tools. It has a bootloader unlock and its a program made for our devices only.

Ok should use cwm.img you suggested in your response or I should use recovery.img uploaded in by m0ndul in thread slvan started?..they both are different size files

You could the myth tools to flash cwm and then user cwm to flash touch recovery.
Do we have to change recovery file
On the mythtool page of xda..it says...in red color warning that
For the option of installing CWM: plz rename the /system/etc/install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.sh.bak before installing. Sr all users who got trouble with this. I forgot this step =.= Will add in next version.
For the latest vesion 1.2 do we have to do that?
I am making sure..
also...I am still waiting for reliable answer on which .img file to use with fastboot command...
the one named cwm.img found on on this thread started by mattlgroff
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41908134
Or I should use recovery.img file posted on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2421418
which is started by m0ndul??????????????????
Both files are different sizes so confused...and worried...
Bootloader can not be unlocked????

Then download and flash the CWM img I attached (By Mattlgroff)
