Playing morrowind on Nexus 7 Ubuntu? - Nexus 7 General

Hey, I was just wondering do you guys think it would be hard to implement touch controls and play morrowind on the nexus 7 now that Ubuntu is working for it? It would be awesome to play it even if the screen is only 7". I know i couldn't do it since i'm new to rooting and switching OS's but maybe some of you talented Devs out there would be able to figure it out.

I'm no expert either, but I think we would need a version of morrowind compiled for ARM, which doesn't exist.
Sent from my sunfire using xda premium

First it's a Windows game so you'd need to run it through wine (too taxing on the N7), second it's not compiled for ARM. So it's not happening.
Dos emulator and Elder Scrolls Arena should be possible.

I read there is a open source engine for morrowind called OpenMW and they said it was completely possible for morrowind to be ported to ARM deceives using that engine of course and seeing that the beta version of steam is on Ubuntu it shouldn't be impossible just need some talented devs to compile an ARM version of OpenMW to be run on ARM builds of Ubuntu

o.o um...
If you have kainy (app) and can run morrowind on your pc then you can play it on your nexus 7.
My nexus 7 has ran without lag through kainy, through my pc. (on a 45Mbs down internet connection)
Portal 2 (modded to improve lighting)
Far cry 3 (with RealIsland Graphics mod to insanely increase quality)
Crysis 2 (with graphics mods to boost quality)
Crysis 1 (with lots of graphics mods to boost quality)
Skyrim . (with Insane graphics mods to boost quality)
Oblivion (with graphics mods to improve quality)
Portal 1 (modded to improve lighting)
Gmod10 (with a graphic mod to improve lighting)
Starcraft 2 (this was hard to play lol as you can immagine)
diablo 3 (this was ez to play on my n7)
Saints row the third (with graphics mods to improve shading and textures)
Minecraft (with photoreal mod, and photoreal shaders (requires a heavy pc for some reason, luckily i have one)
Starcraft broodwar (with mod to increase resolution)
Diablo 2 w/ expansion (with mod to increase resolution)
The Witcher 2 (with mods to improve shading and textures)
Devil may cry 3 (with injections to boost shading and texture quality)
Is it possible to play directly on your nexus? No. Is it possible to play on your nexus? yes. Will it feel different than on a pc? Only difference is controls. And they feel like the game was made for touchscreen. Will it lag? depends on your internet connection. It didnt on mine.
All of these games were played at their highest possible settings without lag. And the onscreen controls worked well (other than sc2). Kainy also allows for remote controls if you have a ps3 controller laying around or a wiimote. I just played with onscreen tho and it worked well for me. Things actually look better on my tablet than they do on my monitor so i really enjoyed it.
That is about the best you are going to get though lol. The app is 2.99 on the play store right now. But if you, like the rest of us, are skilled in google. Youll find what your looking for for much cheaper lol.

how can this app "CHAINFIRE 3D" help our milestones ?

hey guys check this app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087427
this is an alternate driver for open gl that lets us reduce texture sixe and texture quality among others in our milestones
less texture size and texture quality equals more memory our main problem
i´ve installed it on mine and there are some graphical glitches but i was able to play games that lagged terribly before, that now run much much smoother
i don´t have the time or expertise to explore more this app if someone wants to contribute please do .
PS : i+ve installed it on miui gb 2.3 and works fine, please read the safety precautions present in the thread of the developper or make a nandroid backup before you install this !!!
Looks promising, I might try it tomorrow. A word of caution though, it says that the developer designed the app for phones with 1GHz or higher CPUs, so stock Milestone speeds may not cut it.

Decreasing texture size will cause the cpu to be slowed down quite a lot because the milestone's processor will constantly be compressing the textures.

Technically, the CPU on our Milestone should have run by default at ~1 Ghz, but it has been underclocked for unknown reasons (battery problems, marketing strategy... idk). Anyway, with a bit of OC it shouldn't be any problem.
Sadly it doesn't work. I'm assuming the main reason why you want this is for gameloft games. But chainfire shrinks all the writing and doesn't touch the 3d textures :L so it gives a 0.5fps gain and makes all text unreadable

Actually, I forced 16bit textures (not lower res, that is excessive though effective) and set an aggressive mem freeing schema ("Gaming" SuperCharger profile), and finally got lot of games running.
I think that gameloft games like Modern Warfare 2 would run also on our stones. I can run Samurai Vengeance 2 without any problem, with these settings.
At the moment, sounds like the only way to use modern games...

Modern Warfare 2 runs pretty well on CM7 without Chainfire3D, but if you want to play Shadow Guardian HD it will help alot. It is very usefull app and I can't see much differences in graphics, but performance is visible higher (and games need less ram memory).

guide to tegra and qualcomm games on our cappy

a comprehensive guide to our cappy
*need to be rooted*
first download Chainfire3D (free) https://market.android.com/details?id=eu.chainfire.cf3d&feature=search_result
Chainfire3D Pro (paid) https://market.android.com/details?id=eu.chainfire.cf3d.pro&feature=search_result
(Pro offers OpenGL manipulation on a per-app bases and Fix market settings and support's his efforts)
after it installs open the app and download the CF3D driver
once installed reboot the device
then pick from the .zip files attached below (qualcomm for snap dragon game Nvida for tegra 2 games and ect and put the .zip on the SD
open the app and click install plugin
then go into default open gl settings
click use plugin and chose which plugin to use depending on the game
games that work Nvidia (pinball Hd, my first trainz little unstable, samurai vegeance ii and ripetide gp) qualcomm (backstab HD is kinda unstable)
games are attached below
P.S editing the build prop any way does not help to play these games
http://www.filestube.com/6460f51a757b005e03eb/go.html backstab hd
http://www.filestube.com/2f6496e969a1678903ea/go.html Samurai_II_Vengeance
http://www.filestube.com/3dd9cebfec00786e03e9/go.html pinball http://www.duckload.com/download/qQsY2 ripetide gp
http://bitshare.com/files/9lj7b0it/My-First-TRAINZ-Set-v1.1.apk.html My-First-TRAINZ
also rember to enable unkown sources in application settings
^Thats gonna get taken down. It shouldnt though since those developers wont sell a version for our phones.
There is a version of Pinball THD around that has the tegra check removed. I hoping this can be done to all THD games so I dont have to mess around with chainfire.
Devs need to realize tegra devices are maybe 5% of all android devices. And not all those users are going to buy games. So they are targeting maybe 3% of android users.
If people starting buy THD games to use with chainfire then devs will continue to make tegra only games.
I agree with you BenKranged i also think that google should step to the plate like they did with the carriers and the phone companys to stop this fragmentation and stop Nvida paying off the devs and the devs charging 6 to 7$ for games.
also i think terga devices make up less of the market
Nvida profts for this quater says that only 6.25% is the percentage of all tegra based products make up in there profits
Thx alot squishy for the detailed guide, I'm having succes with all of the games u posted,no lag at all to my surprise exept samurai II which doesnt even wanna load, the game starts but loading the missions does not so basicly menu browsing only.
P.S. I'm running Mosaic III D with xcal #15 vodoo enabled
Backstab anyone?
Anyone manage to get Backstab working? If so, how?
TIA, if not, no worries.
Sweet

GBA.emu - finally a new GBA Emulator

Just wanted everybody to know, that Robert Bruglia, who also ported Snes9X and other Emulators to Android, released his vba-m port GBA.emu.
As you expect from his emulators, it's running great, and especially with our keyboard, and disabled linear filtering, it's a real pleasure to play GBA games on this emulator.
You can find it in the market: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDIxMiwiY29tLmV4cGx1c2FscGhhLkdiYUVtdSJd
How does this compare to something like gameboid?
Also are there any playstation emulators than can be used in the background? I have FPse which works good, but whenever I press the home button it closes, and I have to restart from my last save point.
does it have link cable connection emulation?
i've been looking for an app with that function
I don't know, unfortunately. But please consider contacting the developer!
I miss yongzh. his EMUs were top-notch and he was a speedy and proficient developer!

+1
The main reason why I first switched to GBA.emu is that Yongzh refuses to develop Gameboid any further, since it was removed from the Android Market back in 2011. Then the main reason is the unbelievably ugly linear filtering that made games look so blurry and ugly.
But there is a new kid on the block, it's name is "My Boy!" and has some benefits over GBA.emu. It's much faster than GBA.emu and needs far less battery. I tested it with Final Fantasy Advance, which is a time intese game. With GBA.emu my battery drained within 3 hours, with My Boy! it lasts at least double the time.
Every emulator is worth buying, because their developers are working hard to get the best performance and compatibility. So I think you should buy My Boy! AND GBA.emu.
To disable linear filtering in My Boy! go to Video settings and change the Backend rendering mode to Canvas instead of OpenGL ES.
EDIT:
I'd like to share the information, which emulators the Android versions are based of:
Gameboid: gpSP
GBA.emu: VBA-M r1097

Does this emulator support cable link emulation then?
If it supports link cable emulation, the emulator would be quite interesting.
I had a conversation with the developers of "My Boy!" and it seems pretty much impossible to add this feature. But they also claimed that they might get back to that topic in the future.
My conclusion by the way is: MyBoy! offers very high fps even on low-end devices and saves battery the most. I recommend GBA.emu especially for x86 devices, as there is a native version for that platform and it's very fast.
I am currently running My Boy! on my tablet.
But when I stretch out the image and put the app in fullscreen! the image looks blurred.
Is this still the best app in regards to image quality?
(When it comes to GBA of course)
link cable emulation
My boy just released an update for link cable emulation but I'm finding it hard to figure out how to work it. And for that other guy I think the image will always be the same but will be blurrier if it is stretched

Gaming and gameplay

How's your gaming on the DROID 3? I've played nova 3, asphalt 7 and mc3 and all 3 seem really smooth and lag free. That seems strange to me since we only have 512mb of ram but maybe someone else is having the same luck...all I know is gaming is smoother on here than it was my ATRIX 2 (with same gpu and double the ram)

I've had NOVA3 and Mass Effect: Infiltrator run pretty well for the most part, though both freeze up on me quite badly at times, mostly in areas that are large and/or have lots of fancy graphical effects going on. I'm not running the latest official ROM though, I've got the 890 or something, I don't know how much of an effect that has.

Is mass effect any fun on the DROID 3?
Sent from my XT862 using xda premium
Yeah, it actually is! I've never been big on touchscreen controls, but the movement and aiming is pretty well-done. I'm a big fan of the whole series, so that might bias me.

Is it a short game or pretty decent?
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium
You could probably zoom through it in a few hours, but it took me quite a while to finish. There's a points system where the fancier your style, the more points and credits you earn. The credits are used in an in-game store to buy upgrades and unlock more weapons and skills. You can easily spend an extra few hours just grinding for credits. If you ace the game with the maximum score on every stage, you can get an extra war asset in Mass Effect 3. I started out with a pirated copy, then I bought it when it dropped to 99 cents, but I think it's 7 dollars normally. You can use the default tap-to-aim system, or for a bigger challenge you can switch to free aiming. The graphics are Perry impressive for a phone game, and you'll want about 250MB free for the extra download.

New games working very badly
I tried some new games like "bad piggies" and MAMC and both runs very very slow, some times rebooting the phone...
Not sure what's up there. I've got Bad Piggies and it runs perfectly.

MC4 Graphics Mod

Anyone know how to up the graphics in Modern Combat 4 like on the HOX? I tried the apk modder but it's meant for the One X so naturally it didn't work. I've seen people on YouTube with Nexus 7s playing on highest settings, anyway we can too?

Nexus 7 has it automatically because it is "optimized" for Tegra. I am looking for the same thing on my Nexus 10 which is how I ended up here. LOL I am going to dig through the files and see if I can copy the settings over to my n10, when I have some luck I will let you know. After dealing with these nVidia optimizations in PC games for the last 10 years I can tell you that it is not hardware specific.
I tried it on my p5113 on highest.
Also on medium
Completely unplayable :s
MC4
i have it running very nicely on my sungsonic 4.1.2.there is no optimization needed here,it runs nice and smooth

Because Gameloft thinks your device is high end. I have a GS3(US) and they still see it as not powerful enough.
At least include a graphics slider gameloft.
