[Q] phone won't boot to recovery, can't flash custom ROMs - LG Optimus 2x

Hi,
I can't seem to be able to boot into recovery mode, I push the power button and -vol but all that happens is that the phone just does a regular boot. I recently went from CM7 back to one of lg's stock ICS roms using smartflash (am now on android version 4.0.3, kernel; 2.6.39.4). But I now want to go back to CM or another custom ROM due to a lot of missing apps in play store.
what I have tried;
- Flash CWM using the LG-P990 AIO-toolkit
Result; no difference
- Reeboot to recovery from ROM manager (had to install ROM manager from downloaded .apk file which didn't recognize my device properly)
Result; Phone freezes on LG-logo screen
- Reeboot using Reeboot ap for optimus 2x from play store
Result; couldn't use app since it did not recognice my device.
I think maybe the recovery image have been removed, is there a way of flashing it? Optionally, is it possible to flash roms using my computer?
The bottom line is that I cannot install any updated apps since play store doesn't recognize my device properly (so it seems). I am stuck on an old version of the facebook ap, can't find Endomondo, wimp, snapchat, ROM manager etc. So if anyone have an idea on how I can get play store to recognize my phone I think wont need to flash a custom ROM. Maybe I installed the wrong version from LG?
Please help, thanks!

[Q] Can't flash my Clockworkmod recovery to latest version in Rom Manager

Hi guys,
I have a GT7300 3g/wifi galaxy tab 8.9 which is rooted and has the CyanogenMod 9 ICS installed as the OS.
When I manually boot up into Clockworkmod it shows the 5.5.0.4 version, however when I'm in Rom Manager it shows the version as 4.0.0.4 and whenever I try to flash the recovery in Rom Manager it doesn't update and stays at 4.0.0.4. Any idea as how to get Rom Manager to update to the latest version 5.5.0.4?
I've tried manually installing the .zip from SD card as well in, it updates fine and shows the 5.5.0.4 version when I manually boot up, however when I'm in Rom Manager it only show 4.0.0.4
Thanks in advance.

Don't use Rom Manager, it doesn't work correctly on gt8.9. Many users have bricked their tabs using it.

Why do you want to update, the one you have doesn't work? As far as i know there is only two versions available for gt8.9 and you have the latest one.

You can still use ROM Manager, just don't flash CWM through it. It should still work.
I've used it a few times to install ROMs, but it's just as easy to do it through CWMR, just a couple extra clicks...
Poisike, I had problems trying to update my GT8.9 so when I saw the error in the version number I thought that might be the reason why it didn't update correctly.
Thanks jhhoffma, I won't flash using rom manager from now on then. I have manually updated and everything is OK now.
Thanks guys

Clockworkmod problems

hey guys !
i have rooting/custom rom experience with htc desire and sgs 3
so a buddy asked me if i could install a custom rom on his phone.
I told hem i would do it but he told me he did try to root and install a custom rom on the phone but i did not work that well.
i found out the phone is rooted and CWM version 3.0.0.5
i found out for the most if not all custom roms you need CWM version 5 or 6
so i thought lets update the CWM!
Well i did all sort of things but it wont let me update/flash it in the recovery..
So im stuck at this part ! any advice ?
also i found out if start up the download mode its stuck at downloading and wont go any further.
DL mode supposed to "stuck" at downloading as it waits for you to connect to odin.
why not flash recovery via rom manager from google play ?

6.0.2.8 .... I before tried the thing from the CWM thread, with this warning of not working on V20 beta something, installed by an apk? That one was not bootable before and sort of rendered my phone dead, as it woul dnot boot into the installed LG ROM as well after I tried the install. I had to do an emergency reinstall of LGs own ROM with the LG Support Tool ... so I don't trust that CWM there ..... I'm not sure, which ones will work on my Euro P880.

You can download Rom Manager from play store and then download and install cwm 6.0.3.1. from rom manager
Nope ... ROM is broken. I can't even put the original LG ROM on it ... the LG USB drivers seem not compatible with W8.

they're compatible, but it's a hassle to make them work. you gotta reinstall your drivers every time you need to use S/W mode, and after you install, check device manager, some components are installed as unrecognized, you gotta update driver -> automatic search.
After you unlock your bootloader how to install CWM 6.0.3.1
Download the tool ,,
http://d-h.st/HFR
extract the folder
open the folder
find file with name: O4X_CWM.img
rename it to something else e.g. O4X_CWM_old.img
Download new cwm (i gave you link before, but here is another
http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.1-p880.img
put recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.1-p880.img file in the same folder as your renamed file (O4X_CWM_old.img)
rename recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.1-p880.img to O4X_CWM.img
Right click on "[All-In-One][P880].bat" choose run as administrator
The tool will ask you if you have the drivers ,, install them if you don't have .
The tool will show you 8 options .
In your phone go to Settings/Developer Options/Check "USB Debugging" ,,
then connect phone .
choose CWM Recovery option.
wait for complete
disconnect phone
Turn off phone
Turn on phone with vol down pressed.
It should load cwm 6.0.3.1
It worked on my phone, good luck
Whopeee ... operation successful! I can finally install the rom The touch feature of that CWM is reall yfantastic .. no more crazy volume button rocking. Thanks much!
To sum up what I did in short:
- Started with Euro 4.1.2 LG original ROM.
- Press Power/Vol Down to get into the tiny original blue Menu
- Chose install by ADB
- used the root package for 4.1.2 (small thing linked in here), just ran root.bat in a administrator cmd shell on windows --> rooted phone
- Unlocked phone using the cat & echo of the file named in here --> unlocked
- Used the all in one tool with the new CWM file to install the CWM
Now to check out those roms.... I hope one of them is sophisticated enough not to be a crazy battery eater and heat producer...
(man, these guessing games on which info on here is accurate every few months drives me completely crazy..... but in the end it's great)

[Q] Can not open my device xolo A500s(MT6572)

I have installed custom cwm v5.5.0.4 recovery with MtkDroidTools v253. Then I have tried to install 14 different rom. 12 of them successfully installed. but after completing installation (reboot from CMW) my xolo A500s is rebooting continually for all of 12 rom. I want to log in factory mode also but failed (After using MtkDroidTools its not working). And unfortunately I have forget to backup my original rom. I have tried spTool but spTool could find the device when I am in recovery mode and I can not power on my device without go to recovery because its always reboot its self. Can anyone help me out. Thanks
try to flash some rom using flash tool. or you can try to backup your friend's phone with the scatter, then flash it to your phone.
and ah, you mentioned MT6572. There are a lots of custom roms available there, you can just search it on the internet. download the zipped rom, modify it updater-script, then flash it on your custom recovery

its nice to see the problem is solved. well, i think that's the problem on the lcd drivers. you might want to flash the original boot.img.
and about making a scatter, it's really easy. you just need a working rom (the one that's currently installed on your phone), then open mtk tools (its somewhere in xda), click root, then click on the scatter button.
you can of course make a full backup of your current rom using mtk tools

Have I Bricked my Phone?

I am only just new and have been playing around with this custom rom stuff for a short while now, I have ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.4.7 on my I9305T. I have tried a few different Roms so far but they don't work. I tried just today "RevolutionaryS5-V3" it obviously went through the installation process but did not boot into it, just came up with the samsung default ( samsung S III GT- I9305T ) logo in white. It disappeared then came back looping that way.
So now I have went into the "Advanced Menu" and then "show log" I don't know if this will help you but, it displayed this:-

persist.radio.apm_sim_not_pwdn=1

Something went wrong while flashing rom or maybe the rom data is corrupt.
Bootloop means your device fails to boot if system data is corrupt by flashing rom
You had soft brick.
Reboot into recovery and restore the stock rom if you had nandroid backup.

Hey Piyush,
Initially I did try do a Backup using Titanium Backup app, first try I think there wasn't enough room on the internal HDD, so I tried on the external HDD which I thought had done so.. So when I came to this problem, the backup did not work.
Now at first before I rooted the phone. It was done by odin v1.85 and of course it did root. So I know it has superSU, but I can't get onto a stock rom for this phone because of my **** sat internet bandwidth and also a good site to download from. I tried the samsung-update site, but the 2 links don't allow me to finish the download. Do you know of any links that i can download the stock rom for my i9305T my phone was running android v4.3. The link I just stated was for v4.3.
Can you give me some advise on how or what I should do?

Wayne

I'm not sure if you can downgrade from 4.3 to 4.2 or earlier. If the phone was running 4.3 then I'd install 4.3 or 4.4 to get stock recovery back. Then you can install a custom recovery. No need to root your phone for that.

there you'll find the Kitkat DBT for i9305. Will work with your phone as well. In the OP you'll find instruction on how to install this version via odin. Odin is included in the zip.
After that you put your phone into download mode again and flash the preferred recovery via odin. But don't use TWRP 2.8.7.0 from their site. That build is broken and is getting fixed atm. Either use TWRP 2.8.5.0 or latest Philz Touch. If you decide to flash a custom ROM again, make sure you're in the right forum, e.g. i9305

From backup I actually meant if you had cwm and you did a nandroid backup of the stock rom from the recovery itself.
If you are getting bootloop you can easily fix it by restoring the backup.
Search on the net about recovery from soft brick and bootloops.
Nandroid backups can atleast get your device in running condition.
If you have custom recovery backup your rom first then you can flash any desired rom.
One more thing if you had flashed custom rom do not factory reset your device, this may result in soft brick.
Hope that helps!
Is your device booting now??

Yes, I successfully got the phone to boot up and run. I used the I9305XXUFNI3_I9305DBTFNI3_I9305XXUFNI3_HOME.tar file using the odin v3.09 and now it has asked the country and so on..
It was a bit daunting thinking if it was going to brick or fix the phone...

Yes, you need odin to flash the recovery again. No need to root your phone just to install the recovery, as mentioned. Then you can flash whatever ROM you'd like. One thing - although CM 11 still gets nightlies from time to time there is no maintainer left. He switched devices. If you encounter any issues which might be device related they probably won't get fixed.
Is sending pics on pc still an issue? Sorry, I wasn't online and I forgot to check the thread :/
HI Maultasche, so I have been looking at the" Resurrection-Remix-LP-v5.5.6" rom and have been downloading the files for it, but i am not sure what the "changelog" file is for or what it does. The page - forum . xda-developers.com / galaxy-s3 / development-i9305 / rom-resurrection-remix-4-4-2-kitkat-v5-t2704828 . It tells me I need these Installation Files:- ROM , Gapps & Changelog. Do you know if i can install this Rom using
CWM v6.0.4.7?
Oh, and about the send pic question, I wanted to send you a pic of the odin mode screen from my phone, but the only thing I could see was the "insert image" button. But it wanted me to enter a URL for the picture. Whats the go there?

The change log file only shows what has been fixed and what has changed to previous builds. Nothing you need for the ROM
You only need the ROM, gapps and the recovery. Use the recovery rodman has mentioned in his post.
Insert image button? Via Tapatalk? Don't know what you mean to be honest.
Me Again, just above this message box there is the insert image icon. Doh... So now I have spotted the Paperclip icon above and now feel a **** for asking how to send a picture.. Sorry.

Need to install a ROM without a PC
Hi maultasche, Can you help me with this, I have my wife's phone which is a S3 i9305 as well. The USB connection on the phone has been damaged and so the cable can't be connected. I was wondering if I could still install the ROM without the use of a PC. Can you tell me the best software I could do this with? Also I am not sure the best way to back up the phone, not wanting to root it.
Regards,
Wayne
hi,
what ROM youre talking about? Official firmware? If you have a flashable zip yo could do that with flashfire, flashify, rashr etc. Or via custom recovery. For a custom recovery is no root needed.
As for backups depending on what you want to backup (whole system including data etc. or just apps with apps data). Without root your backup options are kind of limited. You can backup apps and app data via helium but not every app can be backed up using this tool. You could do a back up via adb but not sure how complete such a backup will be. I never did that. Or a backup with a custom recovery again. Might be the easiest way.
