My wife, my son, and I all got Kindle fire hd 7" for Christmas. Well I finally got mine rooted, and was trying to do the same for my wife and my son. My computer recognizes mine just fine and shows the composite drivers, but it recognizes my sons as an android phone with the composite drivers, and my wifes as just a portable/kindle.
How can i get all the devices to be recognized the same as mine. I have tried everything that I know to do, ie. deleting and reinstalling everything, but as far as computers and rooting go I am not that savy. Please help, as I am ready to pull my hair out.
Thanks

Hey Guys,
I am having a vexing problem with my rooted NC. All of a sudden, after 5 great days of rooted goodness my NC will not sync up with my PC at all, not as itself or as a mass storage device. Moments before this happened, I had downloaded some pdf magazines through Calibre and several moments before I had installed the RepliGo pdf reader app from the market. I have deleted the two magazines, rebooted both my nook and computer several times, tried all of my pc's usb ports, unchecked the usb auto mount, the re checked and nothing I have tried has worked. Everything else is working great and I can load files on to the sd card through my PC and they are recognized just fine after I re-install the card. Also, when I plug my cord in to the nook linked to the PC it starts charging just fine.
Any help would be appreciated.
OK, let's start with a dumb question. My NC can be fickle...sometimes when I connect USB, it automatically mounts, other times it takes a while. One thing is for sure...I get nothing unless I look at the screen, and make sure it's unlocked (swiped past the lock screen). Have you made sure to do that?
Sorry if that's an idiotic question.
-Matt
Thanks for the quick reply. Each time I plugged in my nook after I made some change I was sure to unlock to confirm that I was still having the same problem. Also, when looking in the device manager I doesn't seem to acknowledge that a new device has been plugged in which makes me thing something is going on with me nook.
Next question...have you tried a few different USB cables? Also, I'm on my second (soon to be third) Nook. The first had a USB port that appeared to have minor internal damage. When you plug in the USB does it go in smoothly, or does it take a few tries? If the latter you may have port issues.

I haven't yet, but I plan on bringing the cord to a B&N close to my work tomorrow to see if that is the problem. Is there somewhere that I can get the nook color usb drivers? I have seen a link on nook devs but it is in the context of using adb so I don't know if it would apply to this situation.
Thanks
Jon
I get this too. Got my cable replaced at B&N today. Haven't tried it on my computer yet though. When I connected mine to my MacBook, it will say that the nook is drawing too much power and then disables my USB port. Annoying.

I was going to mention reinstalling the drivers, but you noted that it isn't showing up in device manager. But I wonder...take a look at:
http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_USB_ADB
In particular, this might be helpful:
If you did not succeed, identify each nook entry in device manager (each device with a Hardware ID of USB\VID_2080&..., right click and uninstall it. There may be several. Uninstall all of them. Unplug the nookColor, replug it, and restart from Section III.

So I would need to do all of the steps on the aforementioned nook devs site in order to reinstall the drivers. Also, in the device manager I looked at all the usb devices and did not find the right information to indicate the nook was attached.
Thanks for all of the help
Jon
If anybody could help that would be great. I'm trying to return to stock and use LGNPST to flash a .tot file. However, I have discovered I cannot do anything with my phone on a pc. I've tried several different cords; to be honest I have no idea if I still have the original cord anymore. I have too many cords and not sure which phones they came with, however, it never mattered in the past, I originally rooted using a cord from a Samsung phone. Most cords the computer does not even detect something plugged in to USB, but one cord it says device not recognized. I've tried this on 2 different windows 7 machines and my apple, I've uninstalled and reinstalled on USB drivers manually and still no luck.
Only thing i've noticed is that when I use the one cord, the computer tries to reinstall drivers automatically but the phone reboots, computer says installation failed, then USB device shows at not recognized. However, as I said I've manually installed drivers from LG website. And I cleared all USB drivers and reinstalled them.
Any suggestions? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

imho, I think it might be a windows thing. I have issues with windows 7, I can't get the pc to see the phone. I have win7 64 bit. But xp 32 bit on my wife's netbook works like a charm. I would suggest trying a different version of windows. And I can use my sammy usb cable for just about anything dealing with the revo except flashing a tot. The flash errors out at about 19% with any other cable besides the lg one.
OK guys, really need help guys. I can't get MTP to even be detected on my HP Windows 7 64bit laptop. I have 2 Nexus 7's, one I accidentally dropped and the screen cracked and became unresponsive, or at least half of it.....but anyways it had no problems with the laptop actually detecting an MTP device was detected and installed the driver. Now with my new one, no matter what I do, it wont detect it. I called Google and had a 30 minute talk, but to no avail. Now, what really twists my leg is that when I plug it in to my HP Windows XP 32bit desktop, it detects it and installed it! So I'm so confused right now, if ANYONE has the answer to my troubles, please help!

Can I guess that you haven't deleted the drivers that worked with your original N7? Rather than typing "Device Manager" instructions have a look at http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
i was having this problem as well. no pc would recognize the device was even plugged in.. although the nexus 7 would still change while plugged into pc. windows 7, xp, and linux... nothing. this is using the cable that came with my nexus 7. i don't think it's cut out for data. just for kicks i used a motorola droid 3 cable and bingo worked instantly.... hmmmmmmmmmm.

i finally got MTP to work on my Windows 7 by following these steps: http://www.nexus7tablethelp.com/2012/08/connect-nexus-7-to-windows-xpvista7.html.
i don't even know if the download was necessary, what i did was go to 'devices'. and unspecified Nexus 7 device was there. i right-clicked on it and selected 'troubleshoot', and within a minute it had an option to install the drivers.
usb cable that comes with nexus 7 is bunk.
it doesn't work for crap. it charges.. i've checked the pins to make sure clean, etc... i feel like i got only a charging cable for some reason. it won't charge other things though such as a droid 3 phone. but the droid 3 cable works for data without any special song or dance. i'm upset because the droid 3 belongs to my roommate and i don't have any other cable that will work. so lame asus. i have not been able to find a straight answer from anyone in months. same thing over and over again.. install drivers, blah blah blah go in the device manager upgrade driver try pdanet. none of this works if the hardware on the most basic level is not interfacing.
For some reason, my laptop refuses to recognize the kindle fire MTP portion. I know its suppose to show under portable devices and it did on my desktop. It shows up as a composite ADB interface under kindle fire.
With that said, i also cannot access it to transfer files over, which i feel plays a huge role here somehow.
Running windows 7 64 bit
Any ideas? I believe ive tried removing all the drivers and reinstalling a million times, doesnt seem to work at all
edit: desktop looks like its using windows drivers of some sort, my laptop has all the files needed so i think i have some service disabled or something.

You actually can push files to it still with ADB or you could just turn USB debugging off to make it appear as an MTP device again.

i have the same problem...i have 2 PCs running Win 7 x64...one PC recognized my rooted Kindle, automatically installed the necessary drivers, and had the Kindle accessible through Windows Explorer immediately, but the other PC did not...keep getting MTP Driver Not Found/Installed error messages....i searched online everywhere, and tried every bit of advice i found, but still nothing...i even re-installed Win 7 on a brand new HDD, and still nothing....ADB does work after installing the ADB drivers though...i eventually gave up trying to get the Kindle recognized as a USB storage device on that PC, and am just using WiFi transfer apps to transfer media/files
Hey guys,
bought a fire 7 with Fire OS 5.3.6.4 and wanted to ADB debug. Followed striclty the tutorial and my device was found but with the status unauthorized. Now I kinda know the problem. My Fire doesnt ask me to confirm my PC with an RSA-Key the only thing showing up is that there is a weak loading source connected. I tried probably everything, revoking all trusted Pcs turning ADB off and on, resetting my Fire, used 2 different Laptops one with the same Problem and one where the Fire wasnt even found. Now I really dont know how to fix this problem, if you have any advice or the same problem... Im thankful for every suggestion.

Because the microUSB cable doesn't have a data (WHITE, GREEN) wiring. Try to use an another microUSB cable with data wiring like Samsung microUSB cable.
