I already have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi but Nexus 7 brings a plethora of improvements and their is no hope or patience to another year of wait for possibly never to come official upgrade of 4.1.
In your opinion, why would you prefer a 7 inch tablet over a 10.1 inch tablet and what would you miss on 7 inch screen compared to a 10.1 screen?
My main motivation is to get a lighter tablet for reading. 10.1 inch tablet are too heavy to carry on one hand. I would like to use 7 inch tablet as I use 10.1 inch tablet for writing and wondering if loss of 3 inches of screen size will be direct proportional loss in writing productivity.

im having a hard time adjusting to the thought of having a 7 inch tablet.. I have a xoom. Part of me wants the new lighter tab but im afraid ill miss the extra screen real estate.
I think im gonna just go for the nexus 7 and deal with it. I had the same issue going from devices with sd to devices without SD...
I have the Acer A100 7 incher and love it, and now have the Nexus 7 on preorder. I love the 7 inch tabs. Super portable, can fit in your pocket. I had the Transformer but figured that if I might as well take my netbook or get an ultrabook if I wanted to lug something that size around. With the 7 inch tabs you do end up zooming in more on content but to me that's not a big deal.

Major +1 - thin and light, can go in your pocket etc - same res as 90% of other tablets at 10" size, so you arent loosing on screen space, just physical size...
Also, 7" tab is MUCH better to game on, as its easily held in two hands with coverage for almost all the screen without stretching!

The major problem I have faced with a 10.1 tablet is it's too big to hold on with a hand and read. PDFs should look better on 7 inch tablet as most papers are 8 inches wide.
Hopefully, it will not matter when it comes to writing because apps can always adjust to screen size and I will be using a Bluetooth keyboard.
I personally can't justify a 7" tablet. with our almost 5 inch phones, there is just not enough screen real estate to make that much of a difference. 8.9 inch or bigger FTW

I tried the 7" tablet with a Nook Color running CM7 and it was alright. I felt content with it... until I got an HP Touchpad in that firesale. The bigger screen ruined 7" tablets for me. I dont mind zooming, but I do mind scrolling and with a smaller tablet, you have to do a lot more scrolling. It gets in the way of browsing, reading emails or ebooks, writing or editing documents, etc.
As good as the Nexus looks, I'm passing it up for a TF700 solely due to the screen size. But for those who it works for, I hope you enjoy it.
Well you won't be scrolling because the tablet has the resolution of the current 10inch tablets (new tf infinity and Acer aside)

I have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, and have ordered a Nexus 7. I also have the Galaxy Nexus, so I have experience with all of the screen sizes brought up here. To be honest, if you are thinking about purchasing a 7in tablet for extra portability/readability, it's a good move. I use my 10.1 for gaming and videos when lying around the house, in the office, or while on a plane. I use the 7in for when I want to read a book or will be on the move quite a bit but still want to game or read on a larger screen than my phone. Sometimes 4.65inches is not enough and 10.1 is just too much. If you're willing to spend the money, I say go for it.

DPI also factors into it. With two displays of the same resolution but different DPIs, the higher DPI will be more detailed but not display as much content as the lower DPI one. In that regard, you are scrolling more. I thought the same as you did when I got my touchpad (1024x600 vs 1024x768, not really enough room to notice extra scrollability on resolution alone).
I'd put my opinion, but that's like comparing apples and oranges. Both screen sizes have their pros and cons.

desktop, laptop, phone.
But why not? for 250 bucks, you get 16 gb of storage, nfc, other crap lol , with great specs. Why not?

I have an A200 and KF on my desk right now. When I get up to go read my twitter feed in the family room...I will pick up the KF 100%. One hand vs. two.
IMO, 4.5" (my gnex) is too small to read books on, and 9" (my touchpad running CM9) is too big to read while trying to relax. I think 7" is the sweet spot. The stickler is the fact that larger tablets have to be held with two hands most of the time.
Plus the battery life of the Nexus 7 is just godly. 300 hours on standby? Think about that, almost two weeks without a charge. I don't think even jesus could make anything that good.
I'm really only getting it to game on. 7" is the perfect size for most touchscreen games, and the fact that it will get all the awesome tegra zone games is a major plus. I seriously can't wait to play the tegra 3 optimized version of Shadowgun on this thing. I just hope that someone comes out with a mod to hide that stupid, stupid status bar so I can play my games in true full screen. I really think that the persistent on screen status bar was the single worst decision Google made with android and was the main reason why I returned my galaxy nexus. So glad HTC went with capacitive buttons on the One X.

Are you talking about the notification bar? Most games I've played hide it. Any app has the capability of doing so while it is running, it just depends on whether or not the developer has chosen to do so.
Also capacitive buttons have been common on pretty much all android phones made within the last two years, I think the last phone I had with physical buttons was the HTC Hero, but I got the HTC Evo shortly afterwards (now two years old) which has capacitive buttons, and it wasn't the first phone to do so.

While the history lesson is apreciated, I am already well aware of all that stuff, I've been with Android for 3 years now. I am only refering to the persistant status bar/ task bar/ navigation bar, whatever you want to call it. It was a horrible idea on Googles part.
Yesterday I went to staples and played around with some 10" tablets, and also with one 7" tablet. I noticed when browsing the web it was clearer in the 10"...
My question is, many of you probably had either one of'em.
What is the pros and cons when it comes to screen size?
Ps: this is the first tablet I bought.
I have 7" kindle fire and the 10" xoom
xoom is clearly easier, because of the size.
it's like comparing samsung note net browsing vs nexus 7 net browsing.
bigger screen for browsing always wins.
the key is to find the median between portability and pleasurable viewing experience.
I've messed around with 10 inch tablets (ipad, xoom, etc) and found them to be too big for me. If I were to carry around something of that size, it would be a laptop.
I've been using my Nook Color with GB/ICS for over a year now. Found that the 7 inch size is perfect for me. Large enough screen where I don't have to hold it 6 inches from my face, but small enough that I don't feel it needs to dominate my attention.
I had an eee pad 10 inch and found it too heavy. i think 7 inch will provide a much better balance between weight, convenience and features.

I have had both (Playbook, Iconia A100, Ipad 1 and 2). Each have their purposes. For web surfing, I do like the 10" better, the 7" is just a tad too small for my liking (and my wife).
For video, they all work for me. I prefer the 7" as it is less obvious when i'm playing a video while in the office working. Also easier for my 3yr old son to hold in the car on longer trips. On trips, the 7" pretty much becomes my son's and the iPad are for the wife and myself.
I had a 10" xoom. For browsing it was fine, but portability sucked. I barely ever wanted to lug that cow around.
Sold it for 220 (minus fees), so only had to pay about $86 for new N7
I vastly prefer 7" tablet, as it's more portable.
I sold my sony tablet S for 400+

I have an ipad and a a100 ( acer 7 inch) i love the a100 browsing is pretty good ( i like android better tan ipad for browsing) and its way better asn a ereader and gamer. the only place I see the 10 as better is for movies. my kids can share on the ipad doesn't work well with 7 incher.
I have a transformer prime and a galaxy tab 2 7" and for browsing the transformer prime defenetly looks much better and it's easier to browse, but now that the nexus 7 packs the same screen resolution as the tfp, I would say that I prefer 7 inches for web browsing because of portability.
For gaming its defenetly much better yo use a 7 inches.

Regarding comparing those 7 and 10 inch tablets at Staples and clarity of web browsing. Keep in mind, all those 7 inch tablets were probably 1024x600 or less resolution. The Nexus 7 is 1280x800, same resolution is most 10 inch tablets. So I believe this 7 inch should be much better text clarity than those other 7 inch tablets.
I have an iPad 3 and for most uses, I much prefer the bigger screen. The only reason I got the nexus is because it's easier to throw in my pocket and use when I'm sitting at a restaurant waiting for a table, movie or whatever, and don't have to worry about storing my tablet after im done waiting. When I'm at a hotel, on a plane or sitting on my couch watching tv, I'm absolutely still going to be using my iPad, because the iPad is easy to throw in my backpack that I carryon.
I have the new iPad and will get a nexus 7 so I don't know which form factors works best for me.

Hello. So if you ask my wife I have purchased well to many tablets and tech products in general over the past year and a half. I didn't feel I needed a tablet (still probably dont) until the Motorola Xoom came out. A new Android on a tablet with Nexus like qualities and open to the wonderful Android dev community, I had to have it.
I owned that for almost a year and ended up purchasing the Transformer Prime in December. I kept both for awhile, but the Xoom had a horrible screen and it is the only tech product I have ever owned that actually gave me migraines so I sold it. Next, the new iPad was announced and by this time I really was not enjoying an Android tablet and it was really missing some great apps. Still, what brought me to dumping Android tablets fot the new iPad was the excellent high res retina display. Since launch I have really enjoyed the tablet. It is excellent and after owning the iPad I have to say I do see the need for a tablet now. What I am getting is not that I am here supporting the iPad as I prefer Android over iOS, but to tell you for the price and all if your going to get a 10" (actually it is just shy of 10") then the only tablet worth getting in my humble opinion is the new iPad or iPad 2. I dumped my Prime and Xoom and never looked back....Until, the announcement of the Nexus 7 (Ill be honest, the 7 was Google's worst kept secret and I knew I would get it no matter what especially if the price is right). I ordered mine and I am anxiosly awaiting it at my doorstep.
I ended up getting only the 8GB Nexus which I know I will struggle with, but for what I want in it I don't think that I will be upset and if I am I can always sell it and get the 16GB option. I bought my wife the Kindle Fire last christmas and she barely uses it so I use it for reading. The reason I bring this up is that this is the main reason (besides the dev community and amazing things we all know the devs will do with the 7) I ordered the 7" Nexus. It is the perfect form factor for reading and for what you get it is the best value on the market. I stayed with the 8GB because I know that I will be using main apps and browsing on my iPad and reading/hacking/tinkering on my Nexus 7. I also own a Galaxy Nexus and iPhone 4s which I use for almost the same purposes as the 4s has the better camera and is a better all around phone for calls and text. Plus, Siri is a great featue. Since JB I have found that I am using my Nexus more so than the iPhone as of late and I am thinking of selling the 4S in anticipation of the new iPhone.
So I hope this helps and like I said if you want a great tablet for things other than reading and the advantages of Android then there is no other tablet that is worth the money (again, this is only my opinion and is subjective) and that is the iPad. The Nexus 7 though will accomplish all those things plus runs JB (Project Butter is the single best improvement I feel that the Android team has done with Android since its inception) and is perfect for reading (the iPad is heavy and too big in my opinion). So as you can see in my opionion and with all that I have used the only two tablets (well, actually three as I would also suggest the iPad 2 if cost is a concern) to anyone asking for an opinion. Android just doesn't have the tablet applications and it doesn't have the great killer eco system that the iPad has. There is a huge reason that Google decided to sell a low cost 7" inbstead of going toe to toe with the iPad.
I hope this helps and please remember I speak as opinion not that my word is end all be all. Technology is subjective and there are other products out there and these are the only two I would suggest after a year and a half with OEMs version of an Android tablet.

I had the OG iPad (a gift) for almost two years. I sold it a month or two after Asus announced the 370 7" tablet back in January.
The iPad was ok, but somewhat over rated imo. I did not like the weight. You can't hold it for very long without resting it on something. Also, it's not as portable as I wanted. Even now, three years later, I never see people walking around with their iPads.
I would have preferred an 8" tablet. 7" is just a bit too small for web browsing. I think 8" would work better, and still weigh a lot less than a 10". But there aren't really any 8" options out there. Not any I find acceptable anyway.
So I'm using the $ I got from selling my iPad to buy the Nexus 7. I've been without a tablet for over four months now, so I'm getting kind of anxious.
have an iPad 2 and up until I bricked my Transformer Prime last night =( those were my 2 tablets...now I gotta replace the Prime, so I'm ordering the Nexus 7 since I just found out it has OTG Mass Storage support via Stickmount (YAY for Chainfire) I was leaning towards the Nx 7 anyway since it is a nexus device OTG just clinched it.
I have had several tablets; right now in my backpack I have an iPad 2 that I got for $200 used. It's in almost perfect condition aside from a weird scratch on a corner of the screen that you can't see really anyway.
90% of the time I use my tablet it's for ereading and trust me, 7" is way better for that. I really liked my Nook Tablet but it was too limited in function at the time so I swapped it out for a Galaxy Tab 7+. That tablet was a perfect size and functionality, but unfortunately was laggy and the battery left a lot to be desired. So I have my iPad for now, but I am really looking forward to getting my N7 here because that 7" combined with light weight (which is a huge plus in and of itself) and solid, "buttery" performance is what I'm after. I'm going to give it some break-in time then sell my iPad to start saving for the new Nexus phone.
I've used both sizes. I had an Archos 70 Internet Tablet and a XOOM. 7" form factor is really awesome for a tablet which is used for reading/gaming/browsing. The thing that killed it for me completely was the 800x400 resolution, this is why i upgraded to the Xoom.
The resolution is really the only thing i didn't like - i love how much li htghter 7" tablets are than 10.1" tablets, it's a night and day comparison when you are casually lounging or reading in bed in terms of weight. My xoom has smacked me in the face over 100 times over the past year because i try to balance it on my chest in bed while reading and start falling asleep - not the best way to awake
I love that 10.1" offers a lot of screen space, i hate how heavy these things are. I could argue that the N7 needed to be 7.7" but with the high-res IPS screen, i don't think i'll have the same problem that i had with the Archos 7".
All the above being said, i'm excited for the N7 and really hope that the N10 will feature a high res display with high PPI.
With So many threads pointing out problems, concerns, and other issues with the nexus 7, I thought I would spend a little time talking about how amazing this device actually is! In my opinion, depending on your needs, this tablet is truly better than the ipad in many ways and significantly cheaper!
Design
Google and Asus have done a really great job with the hardware design, look and feel feel. The device feels sturdy and comfortable in your hands, and looks great.
Battery
Battery life has been superb for me. The device can last around 10 hours on a charge and even longer if just standing by.
UI
The nexus 7 and jelly bean are a true join to work with and come off as extremely polished. In many ways this is where I feel the nexus is better than an ipad depending on your needs. iOS is getting a bit stale in my opinion, the with home screen after home screen of simple all icons. With the widgets I have setup on my home screens, my nexus brings all the important information to me, rather that having to open up apps to get weather, twitter feeds etc.
I'll post some more thoughts later but for anyone on the fence about buying, don't hesitate and just do it!

I think the size is going to be a popular selling point with many and definetly the price (especially against the big boy iPad)
iPad killer??.. Lets say from where I stand, its certainly going to give Apple a run for their money and will finally place an Android tablet into that big marketshare that Apple dominates.
Ofcourse you'll always get peeps who will buy the iPad, personal choice etc... but this colourful Jelly Bean is going to seriously have an impact on the iPad and Apples dominance, which is great to see..

Absolutely. I guess the better question is, does it need to be an iPad killer? I never really wanted an iPad (I've played around with plenty of them) and the minute Google announced this device, I pre-ordered. Why? Size. I personally find the iPad too big to carry around. My fiance has a kindle fire and I liked that size, but it felt too much like an e-reader that car run apps, vs a full fledged tablet.
Jelly Bean is the star of the Show here, and the nexus has all the internal guts needed to make it shine!
Google Now is really great - I googled the Boston Celtics score the other day and now I automatically get notified what the score of the current game is and when the next game is coming up. That's fantastic.
Somehow Google has also figured out where I work and now tells me when there is heavy traffic. This is also fantastic and a huge time saver.
The speach recognition is great too - Very handy to have available offline!

I'm waiting for my N7 to arrive, so I'm not really qualified to comment on whether the N7 is an iPad killer.
That aside, I think we as consumers benefit from a strong and healthy Android, iOS, and Windows8. It forces the competition to continue innovating. This is always good for us. Plus, it will tend to keep prices down.
I prefer Android because I don't want my garden walled - I also have a need to see how things work and make it just so for me. On the other hand, I do understand why some people like to be spoon fed - it requires less thought and they can focus on other things in their lives.
So hopefully it will not kill the iPad, but maybe become a strong competitor and force Apple to improve and innovate and come out with a better iPad (hopefully something more than just a display upgrade).
Not an iPad killer for me, but at this price, why not get one. I'm still keeping my iPad though. The iPad feels more sturdy all around, especially the screen, no creaking no movement. Wi-Fi is more consistent, and no screen flicker. Better app compatibility across the few different hardware and OS versions. Overall the Nexus 7 feels cheap with cheap components, but hey it really is sold for cheap. Cheap enough to play with. Not an Android or Google hater. This is my fourth Android device and second Google device. Just throwing my opinions out here.

I have both a Nexus 7 and an iPad 3, and I can say that they both have their advantages. App support is excellent on the iPad, and the screen is still superior, so I tend to use it for heavier browsing sessions, RSS reading, and a variety of apps that don't exist on Android (none of which are essential). However, the Nexus 7 is lighter and of course has the Android OS advantages, so I tend to use IT for ebook reading and general "what's going on in the world" kind off stuff.
It's nice to be able to own both, but if I were to be forced to choose one over the other, I'd go with the Nexus 7 if only because I like Android better than iOS (which really wastes an otherwise great tablet). Jelly Bean pretty much erased the "fluidity" advantage that that iPad has enjoyed over other Android tablets, letting the general usefulness of an Android tablet (widgets, file system access, etc.) really shine through.
I think if the Nexus 7 had come out the same year as the iPad, things would be different in the market. But of course the iPad has such a massive head start, it's going to be a long row to hoe for Android tablets.

I get my N7 a few days later and show her some of the cool stuff it does (ie:google now) and she was actually getting jealous of my device. For me I never been interested in the iPad, could u imagine dropping that on ur face in bed? lol

Honestly, I don't get this "dropping an ebook reader on your face" thing. I don't hold mine above my face when I'm reading, I rest it on my chest in portrait. The Nexus 7 is far more comfortable than the iPad even this way, but...

i dont exactly read a whole book while holding it over my face, sometimes i just move and try to hold into different positions trying to get comfy or just a quick use and i dont want to prop myself up to use it lol.
I really don't get the iPad's bad comments here. I happen to own a iPhone, iPod, iPad 1 2 and The New iPad, with the Retina display on and the A5X in on The New iPad, there's really no comparison... none! Dude! The Tegra 3 can't even out do the iPad 2's specs. Don't get me wrong, I love my Nexus S, Nexus Galaxy and my Nexus 7 to death, but that still doesn't give me the right to blast Apple or Google because I thank GOD Apple has Google on there backs, this just mean better technology for the end user in the end. So, only GOD can judge me and not you!

Haha! I mean... Google have done a good job but I pad killer is a bit to far. I've had the I pad and have the nexus 7 and the ipad is better. Apps,screen,stability and sorry to say the cameras on it lol. As I said the nexus 7 is quality but has a lot of things missing to kill the ipad.

I disagree, I think the Nexus 7 is a true ipad killer.
Gaming is silky smooth, more so than the ipad3 as a lot of high end games struggle on the ipad3 due to the very high pixel ratio it has.
Jelly bean makes it silky smooth throughout the device,
The price alone makes it an ipad killer, I don't think anyone can justify paying more than double for the extras the ipad offers.
More storage, better screen (but as said, this is a negative for gaming) and a camera.
Nobody uses a rear facing camera on a tablet, who in their right mind would hold up a tablet in public to take any photo, never mind an average photo - we all have phones and actual cameras that does this & does it better.
If you can cope with the storage limitation, why pay double for nothing?
It's not like the Nexus7 is a bad screen, it's still HD resolution, in a 7inch format factor.

I will have to greatly disagree. The New iPad, with that sexy Retina display you was just stepping on; wait, you must not own The New iPad because of the none facts above. With the Retina display it still outperforms Tegra 3 while still looking great with that great and unbeaten 2048 by 1536 resolution. Go try some high end games on the iPad3, it struggles because the GPU is not good enough for the high pixel density of the display.
So,whilst you get a high resolution screen - go check your gaming performance.
You can't honestly say you haven't seen as such.

Dude! I play these games everyday with no issues @ all. Do you have a iPad 3? Because I'm not getting lag at all! I'm going to stay on topic now because this is starting to make me feel like a fan boy when I'm not. Okay dude maybe it's that your in a Android spell, like you see lag in everything none Android. I've just given you the facts. Now, can you explain, how is there any lag in The New iPad when with the Retina display it outperformed the Tegra 3. I love my Nexus 7, but if the Nexus 7 was to be a iPad killer it would not be 200 bucks, but what you get with the Nexus 7 is a great bang for the buck!

Apple doubled the GPU cores in the iPad3 compared to iPad2. (x2)
However, the iPad3 is pushing out x4 the pixels compared to the ipad2.
Its not difficult to see that.
Games that run at the ipad3's native resolution will run slower than on the ipad2.
The trick that you might not be seeing, is quite a lot of games are not running at the native resolution of the ipad3, but are infact being upscaled.

Will be my ipad killer, too. I'm tired of schlepping the heavy unwieldy new iPad around and my needs are simple enough so that between the Nexus 7 and my trusted netbook, everything is already covered. I'm getting rid of my new ipad as soon as I'm home.

You are correct. In fact there was a recent article about the new Macbook Pro's (with retina display) performance and the becnchmark revealed that even with the fairly high end GPU, it just couldn't keep up with the extra pixels it had to push. Same thing with the iPad 3.
Does the iPad 3 have a great screen? Of course, no one is denying that. Is the Nexus 7 screen close? Absolutely.
The new ipad is amazing and better than the 7 mainly due to iTunes and airplay and air video. But the ipad does cost more. Even though I have an ipad I prefer the 7.
I do wonder what Apple will be bringing out with the ipad mini. Comparing this when it's realised might be a fairer comparison.

I plan on purchasing a 7 inch tablet for email, calendar, browsing, some light word and excel updating, and occasionally Netflix. While nice to have, I don't think the quad core processor provides any advantage for the apps I will use? Tablets such as the Samsung 2 7 that have a built in SD Card look nice and don't seem like they are suffering the same quality control issues the Nexus 7 is suffering. I had a really bad experience with the Transformer Prime and don't want to go down that path again.
Thoughts/Suggestions?

Dual-vs-quad is mostly a marketing thing, like the old megahertz wars. For most operations, the Teg3 uses only one core (5th core, see video below) to conserve power. 3D gaming uses all 4 cores, which results in short battery life.
Most tablet use is not CPU-gated, except for hardcore gaming. Video playback nowaday has dedicated circuitry. In other words, if you don't do hardcore gaming, ignore SoC.
I think foremost criterion is screen size. A 7" is more portable, but for productivity (text-heavy) use, a 10" is more suited for its larger display. Would suggest a 10" for single-location use (ie in-home or at-work) and a 7" for mobile use. Best bet is to have one of each.
People tend to ask "what to buy," but a more useful question may be "when to buy." Now is not the best time to buy, as companies are just starting to roll out their wares for the fall shopping season.

I have used both the galaxy tab 2 and the nexus. The nexus is definitely faster and smoother. My nexus had the screen lift thing. Its getting RMAed. We'll see if the new one is better. From the tab 2s I have played with I haven't seen any defects really.

Mine is perfect, no issues what so ever and couldn't be happier with it. Seems people share complaints more than praise. This is my first tablet and have nothing to compare to but I haven't put it down very much since I received it Friday my phone finally gets a little break. I'm not big into games but I have a nephew that now loves my tablet because of the games. Guess it will be good entertainment when kids come over. Good luck, don't think you would be disappointed with this one.

[/COLOR]I like the nexus 7. Defects always happen with the launch of a new product. My tablet has defects. The nexus 7 is a great deal and their are some other new tabs due out soon that's as cost effective as this tab. nexus 7 will have better support and faster updates. You need to research and figure out what it is you need. The only dual core tab that will out perform the tegra 3 is probably the samsung enyos 2 ghz tab that doesnt exist in real world yet.

I have a Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 with dual core cpu and the nexus 7 with quad core. The performance is night and day. Whether that is due to software or hardware or both, I don't know. All I can tell you is that the dual core tablet is very rarely getting used, and I like the nexus 7 so much I ordered a second one as a gift for someone else. Mine is perfect, absolutely no quality issues, though it did give me a scare once taking longer than expected to reboot. And based on the ifixit rating, and the popularity of the device, this one will be around much longer than the other tablet, simply because it will be possible for me to fix it, if it breaks after it's out of warranty.

Jelly bean has a lot to do with smoothness. Having a Galaxy Nexus upgraded to JB, it makes a big difference.
There is big noticeable differences between this and the Transformer running ICS but I haven't upgraded it to JB to do direct tests.

Think about it, a poll in a place where people with issues would come is not going to reflect the actual numbers. It will be heavily skewed.

The pre-arrival population was already large enough compared to the size of the polls that I find it hard to believe 50% of them would've come from nowhere, rather than having been randomly selected from said population.

To provide the background on the Transformer Prime, I received one with really bad wifi. Throughput was painful from 1 floor away from my router and I had a little bit of screen bleed, but I was ok with the screen bleed, it was the wifi that mad it unusable. I received really bad support from Asus, that was the tipping point that made me return the product.
I ended up with an iPad and it mostly works great, but I like the 7 inch form factor and I am curious if Android will provide more functionality with google apps that I'm already using for my business.
I keep going back and forth, but now I'm leaning towards the nexus as the problems being reported are not being reported as much anymore and this seems to have a lot of development interest.

If development is a big factor for you then get a Nexus and never look back. The Nexus devices will always have tbe latest and grestest softwsre cause it comes straight from google. Good luck with the other OEMs as you could wait months to years for official updates.
What do you guys think, the note 2 is big enough to serve as a mini tablet. Those of you who have the nexus 7 and plan on getting the note 2, will you get rid of your nexus 7? If you plan on keeping the nexus 7, where will it fit between your computer and your note as far as daily usage?

The biggest thing you need to realize that coming from a former note user is that using it as a "phablet" is a killer on battery life. Plus I used to think that having an asop device with the latest software was overrated but I don't think I can ever go back to anything blurred, sensed or wizzed on.

+1. Never going to waste my time with a non-nexus device again.
The Note 2 does look pretty badass. We'll see what's inline for the next nexus/nexi, but I'm considering it. I got some funny looks when I tried shoving a Galaxy Note tethered to a display case into my pocket to see if it was too big. Certainly wouldn't get rid of the n7 though.
Generally I use the device with the bigger screen. So if I had both in hand, I'd probably use the N7. The only difference is that, where I can't take the N7, I'd still have a nice and large screen to work with. Plus, the battery had been saved from when I was using the N7.

I actually looked at the note. With much consideration . Its to big to be a phone and Just to small to be a tablet . I too read about terrible battery life trying to use it for a tablet..
So to me
a 4 inch android smart phone(just really needs to call and offer fast thether)
and a Nexus 7 is perfect combination .

You got a point. Actually last year, I sold my iPad 2 because I thought my note 1 could replace it as a tablet but it couldn't. Also the battery life does take a hit when you use it as a tablet. But the reason why I ask is because 7 inch vs 5.5 inch. Obviously theres a difference but not like 5.5 inch to 9.7 inch (iPad). I won't get rid of my nexus though

this is pretty much how i go about it as well. If im home i use the N7, if im out i use the note. its nice having a big device on the go that fits in my pocket. Battery lifes fine on my note, last me all day, but i do carry a fully charged spare in my wallet because it just comes in handy for those super late nights.

I'm pretty stoked for the Note 2. I actually don't think it's big *enough*, if anything. I would love it if my Nexus 7 made calls (and accessed data over the cell network). Then again, I use data a lot more than I make calls, so I guess it's all in how you use your devices. I make like one call a week on my cell phone, whereas I use my tablets *constantly*. So having a phone that's huge like the Nexus 7 would be a totally acceptable tradeoff in size vs. usability (and stupid-lookingness, I guess), for me.
Anyway, so I'm excited for the Note 2, as pretty much the biggest phone out there (LG announced a phablet today too, but it's not as good), and yeah, I probably will get rid of my Nexus 7 at that time. But that's only because I also have a Xoom. If the Nexus 7 was the only tablet I had, I'd probably keep it for the better battery life and being able to read a book or magazine on it properly. A 5.5" screen is still a little too small for that.
But there's definitely no justification I can make (especially to my wife!) for having a 15" laptop, a 10" tablet, a 7" tablet and a 5.5" phone. There's just not enough I can do on each larger screen that I can't do on the next level down. And the Note 2 can do like 90% of what the Nexus 7 can do, plus make calls, plus take pictures, plus access data on the cell network, plus it's probably actually faster. So the Nexus 7 is probably gonna go, and I'll still have a bigger tablet for when I want one but don't need the laptop. I'll either sell it or give it to my wife, but she insists that she doesn't want a tablet, and anyway she's an Apple person even though she complains all the time about all of her Apple devices.

I appreciate this is all about opinion, but from my experience with the Note 1, this isn't true on all accounts.
Firstly on size, yes it is big but that is the whole point of it. When I bought mine this time last year, I bought it to be a companion device to my phone as I felt it would be too large to use as my primary phone. Two days after receiving it, my HTC Sensation was retired and my Note became my daily driver. It fits into my trouser pockets without issue and really feels fine to use as a phone - I see no downside.
I also use my Note as a travel tablet, and it works wonderfully in that guise too. I even use it for work to connect to the VPN with regular RDP sessions and Citrix applications. In some ways, and it is better than the Nexus 7 is this regard since it has the same screen resolution, but no soft keys taking up space. (I'm a little disappointed that the Note 2 drops to 720p)
Last point - battery. Battery life on the Note is great - I regularly get 5+ hours screen on time with my Note which is very good, and since the battery is user replaceable, I can carry a spare or two if I'm expecting to use it heavily. Given the Note 2 has an even more capacious battery, I'm expecting better battery life from it.
For me, the Nexus 7 is for home mostly and the Note for when I'm out an about.

100% agree. I'm really tempted to get a Note 1 or 2 but I can't deal with slow/no updates and touchwiz hi or whatever crappy overlay manufacturers bog the system down with.
I'm going pure Android / Nexus or nothing at all.
I also wish the Note 2 was bigger. If it was a 6" 1080p screen with minimal bezel I could see myself ditching the N7 while holding up the Note 2 like a torch of liberty. But while the screen is definitely more eye-friendly than my current S2, it's still going to feel cramped reading books and comics, watching movies and surfing the web. Those are the things that I can't bring myself to use my phone for since purchasing the N7.
As for Touchwiz, Samsung makes rooting painless, and the community will surely port the popular ROMs. Also, you can install Apex or Nova without needing root if you don't like Touchwiz.
I seriously entertained the thought of getting the GNote2 it really looks sick. Given the slow updates of Sammy when it comes to software is what's turning me off. Maybe the next Nexus will approach phablet territory.

It depends on your preference, i personally won't want 2 devices to both require 2 handed use.
If i need the large screen i'll just switch on wifi hotspot and use it with nexus 7.
But that's just me.

Hi are you a existing user of Note? The Note 2 has a bigger battery, 3100 mAh vs 2500 mAh. Would it address your concern enough? I am a bit concern about the weight, 180 g vs 112 g of Samsung Galaxy S2. Could you please share your comments as an actual user. Thanks!

I am also looking at Note 2 to see if I will replace my Galaxy S2 with it. I strongly believe Note 2 will replace lots of more functions of Nexus 7. I have exact question that what are left to Nexus 7? One thing I am sure to resolve is that MS Office. MS Surface Pro is my dream machine. Is 7" tablet a right form factor? I have no answer at the moment!
I can't even figure why would this be a discussion when the Nexus doesn't even have phone function.
I carry my note and nexus 7 everyday and I will do most of my surfing on the tablet. Occasionally I would need to surf on the note and that's when you thank God that you have a 5 incher instead of 4.

Will likely be using my Nexus 7 less once I add Note II considering that its 1.6GHz Exynos will be faster than my 1.4GHz Exynos Note 10.1 which is faster and smoother than Tegra3 Nexus 7.
I ctually have the note 1, the nexus 7, and the note 10.1 and love all 3 devices. The note is my hybrid phone that is in a class to itself. Nothing out there like it. I will be getting the note 2. My nexus 7 is perfect for my flashoholic junkie fixes I need and I love the fluidity of JB and the purity of it. I use this as a family tablet for me and the kids. The note 10.1 is my mack daddy tablet that I use for school. I'm a registered nursing student and it's perfect for what I do. It to is super fluid and clean.
I love all my devices and won't part with any.
