[Q] Cannot access int sd, Gets stuck at boot animation - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Hello all. I could use a hand and hope that this could help any others that may have crawled into the bag that I am in. I have flashed the bejesus out of this phone and have arrived at a situation where I cannot access the internal sd. Recovery works. ext sd is available. BUT, I get error messages along the lines of [E: Can't mount /Dev/block/mmcblk1p1 and also mmcblk0p36] whenever I try to wipe. CWM Recovery. S-on. Never had any problems until i started trying the JB builds some of you have so awesomely bestowed upon our sweet hardware. This is the first time in over a dozen devices I have gotten stuck and saying hail meatballs to the flying spaghetti monster is not helping. I would be very greatful for some advice. Thank You.

SD Card Issues - HTC Velocity

Hi all,
First time poster; be nice please
I've recently upgraded my HTC Velocity with the CM10 and AOKP mods and both have been working great.
Prior to this, I had the ICS ROM installed which was posted by Leigh Kennedy (if memory serves).
Anyway, the issue I'm having is with both of the JB ROMs above, the SD Card is not detectable at all. When the phone boots, sometimes it will mount, sometimes it won't. When it doesn't mount, I do so manually via Settings > Storage > Mount SD Card.
It will mount successfully, and I can browse through the card via File Explorer (with Root Access), so it's definitely accessible.
However I find that any apps that require SD Card access (ie. Camera, Recording Software, Music even) say that there is no SD Card detected/inserted.
I've tried 3 different MicroSD cards (2GB, 8GB and 32GB (32GB is my main card), and completely wiped them and reformatted to FAT32), no change to the detection issue.
I've also tried to format via CWM in Recovery Mode, which shows to be successful on the format, but no change to the issue.
I initially thought it was the 32GB MicroSD card having the problem, but the same issue replicating on 2 other cards tells me otherwise.
I've completely wiped my phone clean each time (Data, System, Cache and Dalvik Cache), no change to the problem (which funnily enough doesn't make a lot of sense as I can access the SD Card in Recovery Mode perfectly fine?)
Any help with this one is greatly appreciated, as I'm at a loss
NB: My SD Card was working fine on ICS, the issue only started after upgrading to the JB ROMs above.

while the sd not being accessible on your computer is known, you should still be able to access via file browsers and other apps that need access. my camera stores to internal, and Apollo seems to find music on my external without a hitch. Unfortunately it sounds like you've done everything I would suggest, short of trying a Factory Reset

Thanks for the reply homeslice.
I just tried a Factory Reset then, and unfortunately to no avail
I'm surprised that I'm the only person with this particular issue on this phone (I've seen other posts on different handsets with a similar issue, which was deemed to be the SD Card, but in my case all 3 of the ones I've tested have fallen short of fixing the problem).
Got any other ideas? Because I love both ROMs, but the issue with the SD card is more annoying than anything.
EDIT: Ok, just reformatted everything once more, and installed the PAC-Man ROM, still broken.
Whether it's relevant or not, I even partitioned the SD Card to see whether the phone could pick it up via different apps, no chance.
Where did you partition the card and with what software...
I would recommend either using the phone or recovery...
Windows sometimes makes cards unusuable

Still don't know what is causing it

OK, so I managed to flash TWRP Recovery successfully (couldn't do it via the Goo Manager, had to flash it manually via adb which was fine).
Sadly, the SD card issue still exists.
One thing I did notice however, with TWRP every time I tried to clear anything (Data/System/Cache/Dalvik Cache/Factory Reset), it came up 'Unable to mount emmc'.
Now I'm not entirely sure what this is, but the only time I have seen it is when loading Bootloader (as eMMC-boot).
Does this have any relevance to my current problem? CWM never used to error out like that.
NB: Having a hard time trying to find a link for download of WCX Recovery (could just be tired from work, who knows), but I'll keep trying.
I am not sure...
Can you make phone calls if your phone boots...
It sounds like you might have lost your efs partition... where your imei lives...
I am not sure how to fix...

Hmm, well the IMEI is still available via About Phone, so not sure if that's the same as what you're referring to.
However, I think I've had a development (not a good one though).
After reflashing CWM I tried mounting and/or reformatting emmc, it's unable to do anything with emmc at all.
When the recovery was TWRP, it didn't like emmc either, so something tells me emmc plus my storage issue are related.
I've done as much as I can think of, short of relocking bootloader and reflashing the RUU for the Velocity (which is currently being downloaded).
Can anyone think of anything else? Or is an RUU flash my absolute last resort?
Thanks for help so far guys, much appreciated.
EDIT: Helps if I actually answer your question rignfool.. lol. Yeah I can do absolutely anything I would normally on this phone with the custom ROM, short of apps accessing storage.
Well.. things have now taken a turn for the worst.
5% into my RUU reflash, ROM Utility crashes and now phone is stuck on an RUU bootloop....
Still trying to work it out, but I get the feeling it's not gonna go well..

Did you relock the bootloader before running the RUU? This is necessary. Also, were you last running an ICS ROM? If you were, you have an ICS boot loader and you need to run an ICS RUU. Lastly, make sure you are in Fastboot USB mode when running the RUU

Yeah, definitely made sure that bootloader was locked/relocked, as I found the RUU kept crashing when it was unlocked (couldn't read any information off the phone, and the phone auto-booted into Fastboot after relocking the bootloader in any case, as it couldn't load the OS).
And no I wasn't running an ICS ROM at the time (per my initial post of running 2 JB ROMs at different times (CM10 and AOKP)).
After a bit of perseverance I got the RUU to go through successfully, and lo and behold the SD Card issue has miraculously disappeared (which isn't overly surprising considering it's gone right back to Factory Defaults and some).
It seems the PC required the Utility to run in Realtime Priority as opposed to Normal.. lol.
I'll now look into reflashing the relevant JB ROMs and post back shortly with results.
WOOHOO! ..... I mean, yeah, it works now. lol
It seems that during the course of flashing the ROMs previously, my phone lost touch with itself; by that I mean it was unable to access it's own Internal Storage and part of it's External Storage (which seems to be part and parcel of the 'emmc' error I was receiving earlier).
Camera loads, Music loads, it all works! :victory:
Thanks for your help homeslice and rignfool, much appreciated.
Now to enjoy those ROMs to their full potential!
On a side note though, have you ever had an issue reported like this on any other handset homeslice? or rignfool for that matter?
The only time I heard of people not being able to access storage like that... was when their imei got wiped...
From what I understand its a clockwork issue

Yeah I did manage to find a working recovery image for wcxrecovery eventually, but I find TWRP a lot better to be honest (CWM and WCX are also good though).

For the record..and even tho I get the feeling there's a troll in our midst..I'll offer one piece of advice: the PAC ROM has had the SD mount issue fixed for awhile now. My recommendation? Flash the PAC ROM.. then go be happy. Being rude won't get you any positive feedback in these forums. You take all responsibility when using software found on xda. If you don't fully understand what's happening..use Google and read..read..read.. and if that doesn't shed any light for you on the subject..maybe custom ROMs are something you should just not try to mess with.

Hey MG, thanks for the advice. I had the same problem earlier today, and tried TWRP. Fixed it right up. I finally got brave enough to root and rom my HTC Vivid yesterday, and between SD Card Problems and Wi-Fi problems I had begun to think I'd made the wrong choice. I've rooted and rom'ed phones before, but almost never my daily driver. This was my daily driver, so again thanks! And OP the link for TWRP is teamw.in/project/twrp go there have your friend follow instructions precisely, and all will be ok. And friend... chill... it's nothing to get po'ed about. As a note the fastboot was the easiest method for me... and quicker too. If you don't know about fast boot look around on the forums and there's some great info about it. Cheers!:highfive:
btw sorry for no direct links... I'm still an XDA Forum Noob

Internal SD Card recognized but will not mount!
Hey,
I recently rooted my HTC Vivid (ATT) and installed CyanogenMod version 10-20131006-NIGHTLY-holiday. Everything works fine but I cant get the internal sd card to mount. There is an option in the storage setting that say "mount internal sd card." When I press that it appears as if it is mounting then it Apps, Pictures, videos, Audio(music, ringtone..... etc. Almost right after you press that it goes back to the mount sd card button. I have flashed the boot.img, used the terminal emulator and still have the same problem! I would really really (and just to drive it home) REALLY appreciate it if someone would help me with this!
If you need more info or would like to contact me to help me just email me at [email protected]

so when you boot to recovery, what does it say? Is it TWRP, CWM, WCX?
In all likelihood, you've lost the data on your internal storage. Rignfool has posted a fix for this issue countless times, and a quick forum search should come up with a topic where he outlines how to fix it. It involves mounting your phone via the recovery, and letting your windows computer fix/format the internal SD.

Its WCX. Sorry to be so naive but I looked and could not find Regnfool's post. Could you send a link to a few of them? I dont know if this helps but what I want to fix is the apps that use the sd card. Some apps that I know stored info on the sd card on my stock rom will work but are reset after I am finished using them. So bassically apps with save data half work due to this issue. Once again this is the first time I have ever rooted and installed a ROM so im a "rookie" just needing help.

[TOOL]smw6180 Superwipe

Superwipe script for the Sprint HTC One.
Disclaimer: I've tested the hell out of this but I am not perfect. This should not cause any data loss aside from what's involved in a normal wipe. However you use this at your own risk.
What this script does:
This will wipe /data, /devlog, /cache, /system, /boot to prepare your phone for installation of a new ROM. It will also optimally format all of the above (except /data) for speed.
After MUCH testing and nuking of my internal storage (SD Card), I have now fixed this script so that no harm will come to any data on your internal storage. It will wipe everything else. As always I recommend backing things up (including external storage) before running any kind of wipe, whether it be within TWRP/Clockwork, this script, or any other script.
Please report any issues or errors to me and I'll fix them asap.
Edit:
Thanks to @tdhite for his new update-binary, I've finally gotten around to updating this. I can't test it anymore as I no longer have the Sprint version of the device, however the only change I made was the update-binary so it should be fine. As it says above, use at your own risk.
I have it downloaded.. I have not used a superwipe in quite a while.. Probably since 4g days.

I might need to update it. I don't have the phone yet and Viper may or may not have had an issue. So expect an update (at least to fix the text formatting which I'm told looks like hell).

Correct me if I'm wrong please, but I believe the HTC One doesn't have or support an SDCARD.
Id say its quite the issue if its wiping SD cards then. Mainly because it would have to be wiping something to think its wiping an sd.

Correct, to an extent. It doesn't have an external sd, but the phone still references your storage as sdcard. It resides in /data/media but is symlinked to /sdcard.
The issue with superwipe is that it normally could just wipe data on a fresh flash, but if you do that, good bye all your files. But Steve has a fix for it, I verified it. He'll get it going later today I'm sure

It doesn't wipe the SD card in its current form. It just doesn't fully work. I'm on it, as soon as UPS drops off my phone.
Got the phone, it's unlocked, recovery on it...before I even flash a ROM I'm working on the superwipe script. Should have it fully functional in the next hour or so (2 minutes to fix the code, and 58 minutes to make it pretty.
Script is fixed and the download link is active again. Thanks for your patience folks!

This just happened to me as well, hanging on checking system.. I have used the script previously with no issue. gonna try a reboot
Edit: reboot worked, script ran, not sure what happened

[Q] Assistance greatly needed

not sure what happened people but my sprint htc one wont boot anything up, tried fastboot and tried to side load. My computer wont read the phone to do a side push. so my question is what options do i have to possibly fix this? thanks in advance for any and all help.

Sorry to hear that. He must have gotten to recovery somehow and wiped everything. The easiest way is to flash a new rom from usb storage, much easier than sideloading (need drivers, etc). And next time better add a lock code [emoji6]

Can you get to recovery? If not than probably your kid flashed a gsm rom and the partitions got messed up. If so, look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503646
