Sweet Rom v1 or v2.5 :good:
I keep going back to Rocket Rom V12, its pretty much perfect with TSF shell. All the JB roms I have tried have one bug or another and I end up getting annoyed and hitting my nandroid backup.
Ultimate 5.1 - Check this rom
Ultimate is a great rom to try its so for the fastest. what I did is installed all my software, then made a nandroid backup just in case I had problems. I did have to restore twice (freeze at the Samsung logo) , which I think might of been my fault because I'm always switching batteries. From what I can tell, as long as you not switching batteries or turning your phone on and off alot, you won't have problems. Right now ultimate is running fast and stable.

Best rom for me: Amnix xperia rom
Dear,
I am a victim of the same,
But would suggest, you start straight from GB via pc odin, root it, move to ics, root it, and then move to AmniX Xperia rom, it simply rocks.
A great change from touchwiz with most new features.
And am hoping to get an update soon with more exiting features.
Dude just try step by step as i had the same problem and switched roms for the same issue for more then 13 times. But finally am stable with the great stable rom.

Hi there folks,
So I've used Darkyy's mod for a while on my Samsung Captivate as well as I've used the stock rom.
I'm looking for a new rom because Darkyy's mod is kinda buggy, unresponsive and can get really lagged down . I'm currently running 9.2 Extreme Edition. I'm looking for a new rom for my phone, so I've decided to ask the public what their favorite rom for the Samsung Captivate is so I can pick a new one and hopefully find one I love!
So what is your favorite rom?
continuum v5. best rom i have ever used so smooth even without lagfix
I also love the continuum v5, though it may be too adventurous for some. I have used FireFly for the longest time before continuum.
+1 best rom so far. Great battery life with gingerbread experience. Less buggy then CM7 and MIUI (atleast for me)
sent from my cappy rocking gingerbread
if u want something that works, stable and has flies - go with firefly
It's still on 2.2 but it works amazingly well! Smooth as butter with alot of customization!
Atleast, I suggest you try it

Lol at the guys suggesting gb for a reliable and stable rom, I tried it for a while, no matter what rom I tried on gb, if the screen was in landscape mode and turned off, when I went to unlock it I would get a hot reboot. I say wait for gb to stabilize/get a little easier to flash (not that it's all that hard)
Go with firefly..stable as a table.
Continuum looks pretty nice actually. Plus I found a theme for it I love haha. I might try it.
Any others besides Continuum & FireFly?
These threads are lame. Best ROM is soooooooo subjective. What works for one does not necessarily work for all. Try them until you find one you like. Best bet is to read the ROM thread in Dev and see what kind of problems the ROM is having and decide if you can live with it. Expect this thread to be closed soon.

I've been on continuum 4 for a few days no and it's been good to me so far, I was on speed-n-looks limelight before that and it is good if you like the green. I might actually go back cuz it is really smooth and quick, plus he just updated.

Thought I would stress that if u choose to flash a Samsung based gb rom like continuum, it will change ur bootloader and if u want to go back to anything other rom, (miui, cm7, 2.2 roms, etc) u will have to reflash the original bootloader.
There are two ways that I have heard of doing this:
1. Simply flash bootloader from full version of Odin
2. Flash to 2.1 then use kies to flash stock 2.2 and u should have the original bootloader again
Hope i helped!
EDIT: and just thought I'd mention that my favorite rom so far is miui. Just my opinion tho and i would only suggest flashing if u really know what ur doing and can solve some problems on ur own

Hi All,
Need some advice about the Galaxy S. I am a Nexus S user and would love to get my Girlfriends Galaxy S running better if not as well as my Nexus S. I have tried to get the galaxy S running well but now I think I have done all I can to optimise the stock ROM it has onboard!
I know that for the SGS you must use Odin to flash new ROMs – any warnings to me being a NS user with our easy CWM flashing? I will of course be doing a Nandroid backup of her current ROM in case things go wrong Currently the SGS is rooted and running a branded O2 2.2 Froyo Rom. I have Lag Fixed it using OCLF (Not great I know, but its not my phone I can't always fiddle with it to update it!) and tried to remove bloat using Titanium Backup.
The advice I would love is – which ROM do I put on her phone, when she isn’t the most tech savvy person. I figure there are 3 main options (but feel free to correct me!) for a stable and quick ROM that I won’t have to keep touching and updating or fixing:
Stock 2.3.4 (JVP?)
Nice because it’s stock and from what I’ve read it seems to run fast and is the latest version of phone android like on my Nexus
Darkys ROM
Seems to be a nice option – fast stable and tweaked (a fixed version of stock really no?), but perhaps it has too many options for my non tech savvy GF to be using?
Cyanogen Mod
Only reason I resist this is because it is probably too much of a shift away from the Samsung experience my partner is used to - I would prefer it (I have a nexus so naturally!) but I doubt my girlfriend would appreciate the change. Also it seem CM isn't quite ready for the SGS yet...
Any thoughts or guidance much appreciated! I have searched a lot about the SGS, but not having the phone myself, I figure it might be best to ask users of their opinions and steal your advice!
As this one is for your girlfriend and you are planing already with a "stock" ROM you should for sure go for the latest 2.3.4 Android Version in JVP.
I personally would never go for a "stock" but this is just my personal opinion since I am daily with the phone and can repair things by my own.
Related to ODIN there is not much to say if you read all the guides completely.
I flashed my phone many, many times even using seperat kernels and removing thing before, adding and changing scripts without brick the phone.
Try to safe the EFS dircetory is the only thing I would recommend if it is not mentioned in the guides before doing a flash.
Hope it helps for your decision.
i suggest u use darkky's rom in that case cause the battery alone lasts longer than stock that means more time spent talking to u..
I suggest you leave her phone alone
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I would use one of ramads stock deodexed roms, and then flash a custom kernel, that way she gets no lag, stock, you are safe and your love life will thrive! Now that is slick womanizing!
Insanity cm 016/glitchv10c
after couple testing different ROM .... i am very pleased with Juwe's ROM ..... stable , all works fine , fantastic look ....
Darky's ROM is not a 'fixed' version of stock.
Just go with the latest stock firmware for the best performance, ie flash XXJVQ with Odin after backing up all data

Thanks for your suggestions!
Thanks to you all for your help! I think I am going to go for a stock 2.3 based rom either JVP or JVQ - probably JVQ as google talk video works with it, and now skype video works too - both of which she wants.
@solar666
Thanks I'll definitely be following the guides to the letter - and yeah an EFS backup is also on my to-do list!
@doomsdaycs
Battery Life is very much important, but having seen some youtube videos of Darky's rom, I think the interface & option changes & colours might be too much of a shift - I'd prefer it though!
@acejacksooted & @carvax
Id love to leave it alone, but she complains that it isn't responsive like my nexus and lags sometimes - so I don't have much choice but to deal with it!
@slaphead20
Is there much of an advantage to a deodexed samsung rom? Also, I hope you don't use your phone to chat up all women that way
@bisko69
Is Juwe's rom that different from samsung's roms?
@Mothatt
Yeah I think that's the way I will go - safe!
@jaju123
Again, seems like the best option at the moment. Thanks!
Any other thoughts are more than welcome! Thanks again .
All custom-ROMs except CM7 and MIUI are based on Samsung-stock-ROMs.
ROM-cookers of Samsung-based ROMs add some features and change the colors of the UI. So you should take the custom-ROM which has the nicest colors.

Darkys rom!
I've used many roms, but I always flash Darky v10.1 back.
Ist just so goood, battery life is amazing and still the phone is so simple.
Seeing that your GF rom is still in Froyo, isnt it better to upgrade it to at least stock Gingerbread?
Perhaps you can flash a stock deodexed rom, flash a kernel for root and CWM (i recommend SpeedMod), then flash a theme from the theme forums that you think she will like.
maybe you can even make a theme for her based on what she likes
conclusion: Stock rom with custom theme, if she like to stay on stock samsung experience and a nicer UI

The Indian version
Currently I am using the Indian version from a weak ago and its perfect
didn't face any issues with it
the battery is lasting for me with normal usage(Include gaming, surfing the internet, using the cam etc" by 14Hrs a day
I highly recommend this Rom based on my experience
I think you have two options.
1. If you are in any custom ROM (for eg. RocketROM) , then go back to stock & as others have chosen Upgrade Via Kies, you can too. You will be loaded into ICS Version of your country (if it has been released ).
2. If you think stock ROMs are not good for you, you can go ahead and choose amongst the huge sea of new custom ROMs available under development thread. But beware of what you flash. Nowadays, the brick bug for ICS is the demon which even the worst droid addicts fear.
Let me know if you want any more support! xD Good Luck!
I don't know if you've heard, but official Samsung ICS ROMS and kernels along with those based on them can brick your device.
I recommend you something based on CM9, like ParanoidAndroid. It's awesome and safe.
I find Alba's the best Samsung based ICS Rom out there.
It's speedy, stable, good battery and most importantly, S Pen functionality.
Cheers!

Alba
i have tested most of them with the golden method
after i have installed a prerooted gb rom...through odin...
so when ever i am i do the above first and then what you see below..
and i think it is as safe as it gets...
Four steps to installing any rom for galaxy note
1. Flash gb kernel ( i use abyss 3.9 )
2. Reboot to recovery
3. Data, cache and dalvike cache wipe
4. Flash your rom.
This is the universal instructions for any ics rom installation.
No brick and maintain root.
now to the point ... alba is suppose to be safe because it's on Franco kernel
and not CF... etc...
i find it very good..... i had a little battery drain but after i installed juice
and used Titanium to "STOP" all the bloadware its easily the best in battery so far ... (end up a day with quite some talking ,radio , internet and have 35 to 40% to spare)
so far...i am very happy with my set up.
kingdroid 2.1 w/ franco kernel
Asylum is the best in my opinion.

Hi Harris. I am using Liquid Smooth v2 ROM on my N7000. It's pretty fast, not sure about battery yet since I have used it for only a day. No S-Memo, but I found an app that IMHO is better than S-Memo, called "Lecture Notes".. very handy, and your S-pen works perfectly on it. You can also disable finger, so your finger does not interfere with your writing.
Only issue is this Liquid Smooth makes every thing black, including your Gmail and Google Play... it's good to save battery on N7000 Amoled screen, but not very pretty. Browser appearance is unaffected (white website stays white...)
Another issue, my Kindle app doesn't work here.. still dunno the cause. Can download books, but always crash when opening the book.
Cheers!
What is this question?
As you can see, you are asking a question that is not possible to reply. Everybody has his own needs and reasons for using such or such features of a custom rom... So, the best is the one you test yourself and are happy with.
Just think about what you really need and read the features of the custom rom. As simple as that. When two or three match your needs. Then try them and select for yourself.
E.g. if you need s-pen, for the moment you should not go CM9 because it is not there (yet or never).
E.g. look at the screenshots. Do you like them? Well, choose.
i agree

For me it's ics alba right now.. the one i am going to stay for a while...
i couldn't go to a rom without integrated FM radio or pen for example..
as for instructions...

use this... i have tested it many times in 3-4 notes... it's as safe as it gets...
inside the dropbox folder i include a Self extract rar with everything we need..
it's about 530 mb but it's the one folder you will need to go into ANY ROM
you only have to choose the custom rom of your choice after you are done with the folder..

Hello,
I'm currently using DarkyROM JVH v10.1 with the Dark-Core 2.4 Kernel (Firmware version: 2.3.3) on my Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000.
I've been using this rom for a year and a half now, but right now it's too laggy and the phone tends to hang or crash from time to time (it did work great in the begining though)..
Battery barely lasts a single day..
I'll be going on a long trip of 8-9 months in a few days, and would like to flash a lightweight rom with a minimal amount of apps (aside from music, WhatsUp, Skype, etc).
I need the phone to be fast and reliable (I'll probably be using the WIFI a lot), and most importantly, the battery to last..
Nothing too flashy.
I've learned from a few posts around here that CM9 roms or SlimBean (I think?) might be valid options, but since I'm short on time and can't test them or other roms - what rom / kernel would you recommend to install?
(remember I won't be able to replace it for another 9 months..)
Thanks a lot!
I think that the best for you could be to flash the elitemovil ROM based on ICS or jb too. Cyanogenmod and slim drain more battery than elitemovil's ROM and that ROM is very very very fast. I use the jb version and it's stable and daily driving. Try this fantastic rom

Though I'm a big jb fan and use it on a daily basis, I am also of the opinion that when push comes to shove, gb is the most stable.
That doesn't mean that you cannot have a rock solid jb rom, but there's more research and reading involved to avoid issues.
Meso, gamerz and saurom are all great gb roms if that is where you think you're going.
Regarding ics and jb, experiences vary so much that one cannot state a logic general argument as to why one is better than the other. Perhaps with the exception of that if you have one of the newer sgs with the faster chip, fishears' cm10 rom is specially built to take advantage of it.
Sent from horseback.
I doubt I have the newer chip, I've had this phone for almost 2 years now..
So I should pick one of those:
elitemovil (ICS, JB)
ics333 (ICS)
NFINITUM-sgs-LBR-v1.1.1-M5 (ICS)
Meso (GB)
gamerz (GB)
saurom (GB)
So many options :silly:
I guess I'll have to research a bit.
Thanks guys.

1) Darky's version is XXJVO (Baseband) or JVH (Kernel, Build..).
No JW
I guess it means I need the newer stock? Where can I get the right version..?
2) Shouldn't I disable all kind of lag-fixes or other sorts of dangerous stuff before I flash the stock?
I remember Darky's guide was preety detailed about that, but there's nothing on that now and I'm afraid to mess up the installation..
3) Is Titanium the way to go when backing up camera pics / message logs / othe personal data which is not the currently installed apps?
Thanks..
I don't have a link right now, but search for ginger bread value pack, it's a bundle floating around here with everything you need for a good base.

Yes, tb is the way to go. If you get issues when restoring, enable "follow all symlinks" in troubleshooting options. My backup root is also an alternative.
