Hi,
After reading 'Ubuntu for Phones' from Canonical, I couldn't wait to trail run it on my Galaxy (Samsung Galaxy S I9000).
And, after reading the thread about the promises from XDA devs that 'Ubuntu for Phones' will be available soon on Galaxy Nexus, I'm damn sure that the day I run 'Ubuntu for Phones' on my Galaxy is not very far
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...buntu-for-phones-coming-soon-to-galaxy-nexus/
Devs, are you already into experiments??
Hope, JB 4.2.1 is almost very stable and its time for Ubuntu
Thanks
I think only dual core phones.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
the minimum requirement is a 1Ghz A9 chip and 512Mb-1gb of ram. I don't think we will se ubuntu phone on the galaxy s...
Linux has been installed and run with success already, on this phone.
I won't deny Unity might be too demanding for the I9000, but in that case you won't have to use unity just because you're running Ubuntu...
If optimized for the Nexus S, it should run fine on ours as well...
I'm sure going to try it, it will be available as a dual boot too right?

Is there any reason why 'Ubuntu for Phones' are restricted for single core phones (with A7 chips) by your opinion?
Is that a similar voice I hear, when Samsung says - Ice Cream Sandwich are not supported by older phones like Galaxy S I9000  (In a serious note, we are able to run Jelly Beans in a butter smooth mode)
Or is it true that there are plenty of stuff that 'Ubuntu for Phones' 've got, that a single core phones cannot load em? :crying:
Lets see what XDA Devs think about it and also, lets wait for a stable version from Canonical to release (for Galaxy Nexus first)
Thanks for your comments guys

Microsoft said minimum requirement for windows 8 is 1 GB ram. Someone succeeded making it run on old 128 mb ram. that was the dev preview though.
I an sure Ubuntu for phones will come to many phones including galaxy s and nexus s and don't worry...it will be very smooth.
Waits for users to badger devs to bring it to our phones lol

When will it be improved?

Actually they're releasing the Note 2 soon, and that'll probably be better than the s3.

If you HAVE to buy one of those now, i would personally go with the Note, but since you're not me i would recommend you to buy the S3. If you're smart you'll wait for the Note 2 or the next Nexus, which i guess will be released around the same time (like last year).
Actually they're releasing the Note 2 soon, and that'll probably be better than the s3
Based on what? The S3 is undeniably Samsung's flagship, the Note is more of an oddity (nothing against it, it just doesn't have the same mainstream appeal). It would be against Samsung's interests to release a device that made their flagship inferior.

If they make the note inferior specwise, it won't be as popular. It's somewhat newer, so the processor may be slightly faster. The ram will probably be 2 gigs and the camera 8mp. The s3 will still be the flagship, and the note will be for those who want a phablet, but without having last year's specs.

Well, Note has larger screen and S3 is more powerful.

You shouldn't ask this question, every person in this thread knows what's best for them, not what's best for you.
If you are really unsure, wait till the end of August for Sammy to (hopefully) give us some specs on the Note 2, should help sway your.balance to one or the other

As the title states we maybe getting official Jelly Bean for our Droid 3, since it says most 2011/2012 devices. I don't see this being an issue with the dual 1GHz core maybe an issue for the lack of RAM.
What do you guys think?

This. It's been stated that most any device with 512MB RAM will NOT officially get ICS/JB (with 1 or 2 exceptions I believe/non-moto devices). I think at the very least phone companies want devices with 768MB RAM to upgrade to ICS.

I highly doubt it, the reason they are doing the $100 upgrade offer is because as they said not all 2011 devices are capable of running JB, or at least a bloatware filled version of it. The $100 upgrade offer is for the Droid 3 and Droid X2. If they get all of their other devices upgraded to JB by the end of the year then I will have some new found respect for them as its only just been recently that Google has made some changes at Motorola.
I wish you wouldn't use such a provocative headline as if you know this is a certainty.
I've seen that news clip from the Motorola presentation, and it would be great to get JB
but its still uncertain whether XT883 will be included.

I'm getting a really good deal on a note. I wanted to know wether the features from note2 have been ported to the orignal note, specially multiscreen. Does the note have enough processing power to run it smoothly?
My friend is on stock ICS and his phone is quite laggy even without too many apps. I did hear the ICS upgrade sucked but I didn't expect this. I wanted to know wether the installing custom ROMs would make the s pen useless?
M considering either note or galaxy nexus... plz help me make this choice!

1) Multiscreen is not yet ported from Note 2 to the original Note..
2) I have 100+ apps installed on my Note & I wouldn't say its laggy..
3) ICS upgrade wasn't a flop..it came with lot of features, improved performance, battery life etc etc etc..anyways, within a month or 2, our Notes wl taste official JB..there are already couple of ROMs which were cooked from leaked samsung official kernel & seems to work as expected..
4) Installing custom roms need not to make the S-pen useless..but there r very few custom roms which does not support s pen..
Check out this thread it got some promising stuff about new note 1 JB rom 98% of things work properly
Cheers

If you are thinking on buying the note , go for the second one .
We had no option back when we bought note , but now you can just go for note 2
248 Google play installed apps and a few more from XDA.
Still smooth on stock ICS ROM with hydracore kernel.
But like the other posters, better to just get the new note since you have yet to invest.

Galaxy note prooved to be a success. Initially it was expected to fail hut if u see it as a device released in 2011. It was designed futuristic. It got 3 updates on gingerbread , 2 updates for ics and now will get jelly beans soon and some are saying it will receive key lime pie. Even if the key lime pie update is not official the note gave a good outcome to those of us who owned it from the initial days. I am still ao much in love with my device and i love the s pen. A rooted Galaxy S I9000 is still pretty good, but if you can afford it I recommend you the Xiaomi MI-2.
I personally think that the i9000 is a great phone. It was my first Galaxy class and is still with me
I rooted the phone and switched over to running JellyBean (SlimRom version) and think it is just great. I do prefer the S2 just because it is that much faster, but finding it hard to part with my trusty original
Good all round phone but a little slow on some of the major games (I believe - though cannot vouch for that)

It's the same on any device -a certain amount of the total RAM is unavailable to the OS and thus "hidden". For example, the One XL shows 660-760 (or something like that) total RAM, depending on the ROM you're running.
