this is my post before in other thread, from this you can know my problem:
help me..
sorry for my english,
I am upgrading from gb to jb(ultimate rom)
but in jb there is no root. now i want to go back to gb.
I have nandroid backup in gb, before I root it using dr.Ketan's guide.
using this:
CF-Root-SGN_ZS_MUL_KK1-v5.0-CWM5
as I know to restore the nandroid, I need to use same cwm, because in ultimate rom using cwm6, but in gb I am using cwm5.
what I need to be help is I forgot the cwm5 version, please anybbody know the version?
the second things I confuse is, how do I root the ultimate jb rom?
thanks in advance..
*update:
i have read many post in xda and many user also face the same problem.
the conclusion I get it is the philz touch cwm6 that is making the error, the problem now is, there is new update philz touch but I cannot flash it, because when flashing they stuck before complete.
*update:
I am stuck in jb rom.
this is what I am going to do.
flash using dr ketan methode, using InitialCFRootFlasher, flash using usb to gb kernel(CF-Root-SGN_ZS_MUL_KK1-v5.0-CWM5). hope get the cwm5. then restore my gb nandroid backup(if still possible to boot to cwm5).
hope it is safe.this is my last bet.
maybe tomorrow I will do it.
thanks for the help..
I am stuck in cwm6 because cannot "unmounting system".
now, what i want to do first is restore nandroid backup, only this the question:
can I restore GB nandroid backup cwm5 from JB cwm6?
*update:
if cannot restore GB nandroid backup cwm5 from JB cwm6.
how do I install cwm5 without odin?, also cannot flash directly from cwm6 because stuck in cwm6 because cannot "unmounting system"
I am now in cwm6 jb ultimate rom, my backup is GB nandroid cwm5.
Just flash a stock gb rom via odin.. Get the rom in sammobile.com, start fresh its always the best option
Tapatalking on my n7000
That is a bit too many problems, just go back to stock GB using PC Odin, root and then flash whichever ROM you want.
as advised, charge your battery fully, get into download mode and flash a GB rom......after flash is successful and your mobile is ready for set -up, get into GB stock recovery and wipe data and cache....reboot into rom. root it by zergrush method or ask here how to....
dont play around with CF root kernels ( for ics ) for nandroid restore etc etc..... till your phone is completely stabilised.
thanks everybody...
successfully flash to GB with yellow triangle

So there has been a lot of discussion in other threads about backing up,
and restoring ICS ROMS. I had to find out what is possible and what not.
I wrote down the steps for reference, please if you find that there are corrections or additions, post!
Here's the deal:
It can be done, you just have to flash the Abysnote 4.0+ kernel everytime you want to do a backup or restore. This is also the way to safely revert to a Gingerbread Nandroid backup, after you're done playing with ICS.
There's a few caveats, if you do a backup of ICS and you forget to reflash
the ICS kernel, you will be trying to boot ICS with an Abyss kernel...
Something I never did, but it might end you up in the, well... abyss.
Also, I found myself first scared, then confused with the occurence of
an LP5 repack from Chainfire, that is admitted to be a high risk release.
Then you see LP5 ROM's popping up, so you think, might they be using
that LP5 repack and am I inherently in danger? Seems not the case.
One can flash the ROM's by the Chef's containing LP5 kernels, but from what I learned, the base is OK anyway. *please correct me here if I'm wrong.
Here's the scenario's, tested once by me on accounts 1 and 3. 2 is beta but hearsay says it works. Anyway, it most probably won't hardbrick your device if it doesn't You'd still have recovery mode from holding down home-volume up-power until white samsung logo appears.
1- Howto create Nandroid backup from a working ICS rom that you have.
So, if on ICS, and want to make an ICS nandroid (i.e.progressive installation/configuration backups), you can :
- reboot to recovery mode
- flash abyss 4.0+ kernel
- reboot to recovery after the kernel flash is done, dont boot the Android phone
- you are now in a different looking recovery mode, don't panic, its almost the same
- do your nandroid thing
- after the nandroid has finished, reflash the kernel you had in your ICS ROM
- after that, you can reboot to recovery again, or select reboot system.
(I always reboot system after I reboot once more to recovery)
2- Howto restore ICS Nandroid backup from a working ICS rom that you have.
So, if on ICS, and want to restore an ICS nandroid (i.e.progressive installation/configuration backups), you can :
- reboot to recovery mode
- flash abyss 4.0+ kernel
- reboot to recovery after the kernel flash is done, dont boot the Android phone
- you are now in a different looking recovery mode, don't panic, its almost the same
- go to restore menu, select the ICS nandroid that you want to restore
- **not tested by me, but there should be no need to reflash the ICS kernel as it has been overwritten by the restore**
- after the nandroid restore has finished, you can reboot to recovery to reboot system
(I always reboot system after I reboot once more to recovery)
3- Howto revert to Gingerbread Nandroid backup from a working ICS rom that you have. (Safely going back to GingerBread without much trouble)
reboot to recovery mode
- flash abyss 4.0+ kernel
- reboot to recovery after the kernel flash is done, dont boot the Android phone
- you are now in a different looking recovery mode, don't panic, its almost the same
- do a fullwipe/factory reset
- restore your GB nandroid using backup/restore menus in CWM
- after the nandroid restore has finished, do a factory reset/full wipe again
- after that, you can reboot to recovery again, or select reboot system.
(I always reboot system after I reboot once more to recovery)
Hi ... I got a hint from stunner thread that backups work on lp5 kernel ... I've done one without any apparent issues but don't know whether it would properly restore if required? ... If yes, it would avoid the need for this multiple flashing of kernels .... You can also try and confirm ...cheers.envy

+1 I'd like to know this as well. I made a direct nandroid in stunner recovery without flashing abyss.. Hope it won't be a problem.

Well.. if you guys already made the backup with the LP5 kernel,
could you take the ""risk" and try a restore ? You would the first the really
confirm it, and the thread would grow in information worth.
I guess the worst that can happen is that you have to use ODIN to restore a stock
ROM and then restore your ICS backup using Abyss.
More likely is that you can just flash abyss if it doesn't work, then flashback ICS backup. Hope you will try. Im back on GB.

Sorry for hacking in
I too wrote the instructions how to shift to GB rom from ICS rom !!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24535533&postcount=2
Thanks for you detailed instructions on various scenarios!! Good one!
Cheers! Enjoy your Note!!
Sorry but I'm a bit confused. I'm on Stunner, and would like to do a nandroid backup, and continue using stunner as is.
Steps:
1. Get into recovery and flash latest abyss, then reboot to redpill recovery, then perform nandroid.
2. How do I revert stunner as I had it before, since kernel has changed? The only file I have is the stunner rom package itself. No separate kernel to flash. Should I just restore the newly made nandroid to get back to the way I had it pre-abyss? Wouldn't the nandroid backup have stunner rom+abyss kernel, which I don't want?
Thanks!
Tested by me - the ICS kernel has not been overwritten by the restore

First of all thanks to "lucid" for the thread!
I am on ICS Stunner 1.4.19. I followed the instructions above and did backup and restore as described.
I have tested to restore the nandroid backup and reboot without reflashing the kernel. Well, that didn't work. My Note stuck on Samsung logo. Fortunately I was prepared for it beforehand. I had previously extracted the kernel from my Stunner. So I rebooted into recovery again and flashed the ICS kernel (3.0.15-I9220ZCLP5-CL295568).
Peace!
HI, guys i had perfectly fine working note but some how wanted to flash abysskernel to overclock downloaded and flashed it on ICS stock rom....and crap now m stuck at boot of my galaxy note .....stuck at boot animation of custom logo not going further. i downloaded costom logo abysskernel and flashed it through cw mod.
plz hellp all tech giants and masters here as i dont want to format my phone a lot of stuff is thr...please tell me how to go back to previous state without losing data. i have tried wiping cache and dalvic cache but still stuck at boot....HELP!!!
abyss kernel cannot use with ics since it is a gingerbread kernel. a ics is required to have a ics kernel for it to work. what can you do is if you have a nandroid backup, just restore it using the abyss or if you are running a stock ics, just find a compatible ver of cfroot ics kernel and flash it via abyss.

First of all, if anything goes wrong, this is your safest way to not cause any additional harm to your device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18981227&postcount=4
But since your backup is not working, you don't want to employ this method right now.
So you just follow the advice of janice1234 and find a compatible (with your ICS version) cf-root kernel (v5.6!) here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26746339&postcount=7, copy it to your external sd via anything that lets you access it (e.g. adapter or another phone) and flash the kernel with abyss.
While you're in the dev section you could do some more reading, for example all the information chainfire provides in his cf-root kernel thread...

hi got all u told me just one more thing how to flash wia abyss.....dont know how to ...i know how to flash via cw recovery touch i have it but from theer cf root have .tar file and it cannot be flashed through cw recovery so how to flash cf root from recovery. thas all i need to know.
thanx
You need to download a rom that can be flashed through cwm / abyss red. Try criskelo v7 ics. Download to your pc, copy it to your SD card using SD card reader) then reboot into recovery and flash it. If you have stock ics, I would do the 3 wipes first before flashing the new rom. Make sure you are doing all of this from abyss 4.2 cwm and not ics cwm.

Usually people run into this problem the other way around.
Anyway, once you have downloaded the .zip file there is no need to unzip it, since the .zip is exactly what you need to flash in CWM as it can't handle the bare .tar.

SOS!
Was running the note on ParanoidAndroid v 0.5. Everything was fine. I had gotten PA v0.5 by flashing stock GB, used CF-Root with CWM to root the phone and get custom recovery. After this flashed PA 0.5 onto the Note. No kernels etc have been changed. Before flashing PA 0.5 i had taken a nandroid backup of the stock rooted GB with CWM recovery.
Fast forward to today..
I wanted to take something off my old nandroid backup so i rebooted into recovery took a backup of the current setup.. Backup successful.. After this i rebooted into recovery and restored the old nandroid backup.. This was also successful.. I booted into the phone, exported the data that i wanted and used the restore option available in the CWM recovery application that comes as part of the CF-Root package.. The phone rebooted into recovery.. Was at verfiying MD5 stage.. And then suddenly everything goes blank and the phone went into a boot loop.. It just stays at the screen where It says Galaxy Note GT-N7000.. Tried rebooting into download/recovery etc.. Nothing works.. Just coming back to the same splash screen..
I have not wiped the note on any unsafe kernel.. I'm sure about that.. Please help!:crying:
Try to boot into stock recovery and use pc-odin to flash a stock GB
Try to get in download mode....and please flash gb rom.
I would suggest pre-rooted gb rom.
And if you cant get in download mode or in recovery mode....then it is soft brick.....

actually try wipingcache and dalvik first from safe kernel recovery.
after that if the nandroid you restore is ics and kernel is cm or aokp you need to flash an ics kernel inbetween.
Make sure to fkash when restoring pa you have same kernel you made nandroid with.
First things first, thanks to all of you for your replies.. I backtracked on my steps and i had done *some* mistake with the steps that i followed..
People who want to know the result: Problem solved! Yay!
Here's what i had done..
I went back to GB nandroid backup from a 5.5.x.x CWM based recovery (worked fine - as expected)
The GB nandroid backup had a 5.3.x.x CWM based recovery. So my mistake was trying to restore a backup, which was taken with a newer CWM based recovery, using the older 5.3.x.x recovery.. This is where it failed..
Luckily i somehow got into download mode, flashed stock GB and rooted it using the zergrush exploit, flashed CF-Root kernel with a CWM based recovery, booted into it, flashed PA v0.5.
Then after this, rebooted into recovery of PA v0.5 and restored the nandroid backup of PA v0.5..
Voila! It worked :victory:
Hi all, so I'm currently looking for a way to go back to stock Touchwiz (4.0.3) from CM10.
I'm currently running CM10 and i do have a Nandroid backup from when I was on Touchwiz (and running PhilZ safe kernel), but the thing is I've been running CM10 for a few months and have a lot of new data stored on my phone.
So instead of backing up anything new and just restoring my backup, could i just flash a stock firmware through ODIN or CWM on top of CM10? Or if I tried that would I have to wipe anyway?
Thanks any help appreciated.
going back from custom to stock causes boot loops and a wipe will be necessary. so better do a nandroid backup of th current rom, then when in stock rom, use tb to restore data using the nandroid backup.

Ok this thread is dead but I will have to revive it now because I wanna do the same thing.
I have been on Cm10 and wanted to go to Alliance ROM today. So like a complete idiot I flashed pre-rooted KJ1 gingerbread ROM from Dr.Ketan over my CM10 and got stuck in a boot loop. Luckily had a nandroid backup and now restoring as I type.
What is the correct process to go from CM to stock GB or ICS?
Any and all help is appreciated
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Kaushik
EDIT: I flashed the pre-rooted GB ROM because I wanted to do a full wipe and then flash over to stock ICS and then to Alliance JB ROM.

Either flash using PC odin. after flashing if on GB, boot into recovery and do a factory reset. If on ICS, install a safe kernel (eg,Philz) and reboot recovery and do a factory reset,
OR
Flash a custom GB or ICS rom using recovery after all wipes and formats (system, data, cache)
Hi
I want to return my Note to stock. When I first bought it I rooted it and made a nandroid of the stock ICS rom that was on it.
Since then I have installed Alliance Rom on Jellybean. Can I just restore the stock ICS nandroid straight over the JB rom or will this brick my phone? I've read that there's something about ICS stock kernels that can cause bricks so I'm a bit nervous about how to go about it.
I have already downloaded the two files from the unroot thread to remove superuser and binaries, do I just flash these after restoring the ICS nandroid? Also, how do I get back the stock recovery?
Sorry for such basic questions but I'm new to the Note and it's a bit different to flashing things on the One X which I came from.
Thanks x
yes.. you can restore the stock rom nandroid.. but i am not sure as Alliance JB LSZ use TWRP recovery and the backup you made may be using CWM.. so its better to install a CWM kernel on the rom... Like philz and then restore the rom,, for stock recovery you will need to install stock kernel..
but why go into so much trouble ... just install a stock ICS rom using pc odin.. (no wipes after installing stock ICS rom).. make all the wipes while on a safe kernel

Thank you very much for explaining, that's a big help
The Odin way does sound a bit easier, I'll look into it. Thanks for explaining about the ICS wiping problem.
Much appreciated
