[Q] NFC in the UK - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Has anyone used their Xperia T to make NFC payments yet? Or used NFC at all? I found a digital passport app not too long ago. does this work?

I tried installing a patched google wallet app from modaco but the app wouldn't run, the app has been reported to work in the uk on rooted nfc capable devices. no idea why I can't get it working, feel free to give it a blast: http://www.modaco.com/topic/354635-region-device-root-patched-google-wallet-apk-15-r87-v15/

I have only used NFC to connect to my Sony speaker I got for Christmas, along with "NFC easy connect" app, it works fine, but I also tried to share a picture with my wife (sgs3) but it failed and my brother (GN4) failed, only thing I could share from phone to phone was a contact. Perhaps I needed an app to share pictures, but I thought the point of NFC was simplicity :/ not tried it for payments yet, don't think I will anytime soon until it becomes much more reliable!

As far as I know, you need to be using the same app to be able to transfer stuff between phones. The only thing I've been able to share between different programs was a web page (stock browser to dolphin).
But I agree with you that NFC needs to be better standarized to be practical.

I've google-beamed something to my mate's phone (SGS3) using NFC and Bluetooth.
Both needed to have NFC and Google Beam enabled for it to work.
I've also bought some Smart Tags and have used them without issue.

FAQ
What devices are supported?
All of them! Well....if you have NFC at least.
What if I get locked out and lose all my keys?
Not to worry! Tapping on the app icon on the lockscreen will temporarily disable the lock, allowing you to authenticate with your Gmail account.
What NFC tags should I get, and where should I get them?
Within the app you can find a section called "Purchase NFC Tags". Here you can find a couple different sites that sell NFC tags which I have found cheap/cool/interesting/share worthy.
Can I use my NFC Key for storing other data still? I want to use it to trigger a <insert random action trigger here>
Currently, no.
Bugs and Issues
I dont think there are any. Please let me know what you find.

Awesome. Look forward to it. Any way of implementing multi user with android 4.2? Nexus 7 and such. Each kid has a key ring? Sounds legit

If you mean each key will unlock you to a off user, that's currently impossible until Google releases some open APIs for account management.
What you can do though is install the app on all the seperate user accounts and set different keys for each. The child would have to switch their account before scanning the key, but it would - i think - give you the result you're looking for.

Can't wait to try this at home. I have a bunch of Andytags(.com) everywhere. Should be interesting.
Sent from the Mars Rover.
Its really best if youre able to get them on something you have with you constantly. The idea is to make it secure, not to be a pain in the ass to unlock your device. Try sicking one on your wallet so you have to tap your pocket, or maybe in your belt.
Someone saw this thread last night and contacted us about getting some NFC hardware to go along with our app, so hopefully soon well be able to provide some nice and convenient tags instead of slapping stickers everywhere.

You can pick them up for stupid cheap on that site i mentioned above.
Sounds cool. Is it possible to make this process even quicker? Like simply tapping on a tag to unlock the phone?
I think you could probably achieve that by removing your lock screen, but as far as a stock device with NFC goes, your device won't actually scan anything unless the screen is on and the device is unlocked.

Really like the idea but could you impliment the HFC hack so it works with screen off?

Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
ok so there is no option to turn android beam on you just turn nfc on and good to go?
Doesn't seem to work on samsung devices? Tried to send some files over and it didn't work, tried over wifi direct and still didn't work.

I'm pretty sure samsung uses s-beam which is wifi direct and not bluetooth. (Someone correct me of its the other way around.)
So if you wanna beam to a samsung device turn off s-beam and keep nfc on.

what about wifi direct all of the info i can find online about this and android beam are showing that you can turn them on in settings, is this an update for 4.2.2
Samsungs s-beam uses it. Not normal android beam.

WIFI direct

Does anyone know how to use Wifi direct with the HTC one to transfer moderate to large files like movies or videos.( beam/bue tooth is to slow) Everytime i try to use it with any phone it fails or doesn't connect. ive also tried third party apps like super beam/ send!/file transfer/ none of which work. i find it hard to believe that the HTC one is suppose to compete with the GS4 and GS3 but cant do any features that mimic S BEAM its a fail on HTC. if anyone could help to get this to work i would appreciate it thank you

Superbeam works fine on my HTC one. Use it to transfer between my one and my Nexus 10 all the time. Make sure Wifi direct is enabled on your phone, I believer there is an option to block it if you don't want people connecting, or something.
Every time I use it it says wifi direct fail I've tried HTC to HTC and HTC to Samsung I have my wifi and wifi direct turned on still not working I even went into the wifi direct option and manually paired with device still not working also tried a different HTC to make sure it's not mine still having same is first file was 86kb failed next was 1gb movie failed

I've successfully transferred a picture with super beam from my one to nexus 7. Not sure what's keeping it from working

Maybe you could try doing a factory reset or a custom rom, maybe something is borked in your os.
Have the same problem. Try to use WiFi direct with my wife's gs3 so I can watch a movie on my ps3 and her phone kept saying connection failed. Her sbeam was on and we were paired. Kinda weird. Any way on a side note any way to connect our phone as mass storage instead of mtp?
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
i rooted and flashed custom rom wifi direct still not working with superbeam always comes up saying wifi direct failed try wifi hot spot option....any other suggestions
MadMan3353, we are building an app that does exactly just that. The app is called Drop, and it is a simple, fast, and secure way to share files with people/devices in proximity over WiFi Direct. We are going into a limited Private Beta soon, so if you're up for the challenge, (and running Jelly Bean) then sign up at www.get-drop.com. Seats are limited, and we have a rolling enrollment, so check it out.

Seriously? This doesn't help solve his problem. Especially when it is obvious from his posts that he has tried HTC to HTC.

This is why I think Samsung in the long run is going to lose...as they copied their way to the top, they are becoming like Apple...create a closed-ecosystem solution. At a minimum you need to create something that works at least within Android....and if you're ambitious, make it work cross-platform with iOS....shameless plug...go check out what we're doing at www.get-drop.com! Going into Private Beta soon for Android first...

HTC one sharing photo with s4 via nfc

How does nfc work? My mates got. S4 and tried to send me a photo but it just sends me to a dead play store link.
Any tips on how to work with any device?

did you make it work? I tried the same thing but all I heard is the sound twice but nothing. Somewhere I read, you need to have the Bluetooth on but didn't help...

I use "send!" from the app store which uses nfc to make a wireless connection so you have much better speed. But if you want to use pure nfc just install "Android Beam" and you can send things through nfc to others even if they don't have the app. Under share it will pop up with the app that allows you to send it.

Doh, I guess android beam is now baked in so just let the devices connect and it will auto share the content, as I said I use send!. Here's the official tutorial https://support.htc.com/en-uk/005-HTC_One/0G0/040
The s4 has to have s-beam off and nfc on then it'll work.

[Q] WiFi direct & NFC files sending

But is was possible between S2 and S3... And how to do that with NFC ? Some guide or something else like that ?
Is only one option the bluetooth ? I mean without thirdparty app.
Thanks beforehand!

Same question here. I tried using NFC also but it is not working for me. I enabled it from settings. Any other setting required? First I thought its a hardware problem in my handset.
Have you tried using SuperBeam from the mkt? Works fine for me between my HTC One and an N4 - transferred a large video file pretty quickly between the two even though there was no wifi network/router available nearby

Thanks. SuperBeam successfully transfer one mp3 from S3 to One but it was impossible do it from One to S3.. I will try again tomorrow.
About thr NFC when i try to send imahe or music the S3 opens Playstore and says the item is not found!
I cannot understand where exact is the problem. As I said already it was VERY easy to transfer from S2( one of the best phone I have ever had) and S3...
PS: I love my ONE !
