the internal "about phone->update" option is not working either. When i press the update now button the phone simply restarts.
Please help me find a turorial or something on how to upgrade to ics stock rom with custom tools without bricking it.

You need to read a lot mate.....
try reading fully and use the AllinOneTool Kit by Spyrosk. You can use the KDZ file which you have downloaded with that tool....very informative and easy
If you still have any issues, PM me

Hello,
I have an LG P500H that according to the settings menu is currently on Android version 2.2
I've read in countless places that this device is eligible to be upgraded to an official 2.3. Through the LG support tool a notice displays there is an available update which im assuming is the 2.3 itself.
My question is with regards to rooting. I have located a thread about rooting this device on 2.2 firmware but nothing specifying any process for 2.3. If I root on 2.2 my assumption is I will lose my root once I upgrade. How would I go about rooting this device on official 2.3 firmware.
Thanks to everyone for reading.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here I will list the only post I've found referencing this involving rooting through ADB. Can anyone confirm? Or suggest a safer method to ensure success with no issues? The post is as follows:
The LG Optimus One P500 is the one of the best budget Android phones around. Now it can be updated to Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, then the purpose of writing this article is to help you to root stock gingerbread in an easy way. LG Android Phones
How to root Android 2.3 Gingerbread on LG Optimus One P500:
1. Read everything first and after do what is necessary:
What Is ADB and How To Install It With Android SDK, please go to here.
INSTALLING ANDROID SDK ON YOUR WINDOWS PC from here)
Don’t forget to restart your PC after installations. LG Phone Problem and Solution
2. Download and install SuperOneClick. You can download the tool from here.
3. In adb:
adb devices
adb shell
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
After that open SuperOneClick and root using pneuter. Reboot phone and update Superuser from Market.
This instruction works fine on my LG Optimus One, I had some problems updating superuser, kept force closing, but after restart, it works. hit thanks if this was useful for you.
EDIT: So I try to update software through LG support tool. The first screen of the tool checks the software and says there is an update available. Doesn't specify what version. When the option to start the update is selected the second tool launches and says device is not able to be updated. Another question would be what exactly is going on with that? and how to go about getting the official 2.3 on this P500H. Thanks.
This is ridiculous.
I check the TELUS website which is the carrier for my device. Turns out the only "update" listed on their end is 2.2.1 and the instructions stated my device needed to upgrade as I was running 2.2
So I go ahead and update my device and everything completes as the instructions stated.
Well, now the phone is stuck in a bootloop at the android logo and will not go further. Thanks TELUS.
Edit: Hard reset fixed this issue, now running 2.2.1. Getting really fed up with this so called official 2.3 that I can not seem to get. Anyone with answers please assist.
heres the official gb rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140862
Thank you for the link. I looked over the thread and noticed that the post mentions v20g and v20c versions for download.
I'm guessing these are international versions as I have checked my phones About menu and noticed I have a software version listed as LG-P500H-v10s
How would this impact installing official 2.3 or is there anywhere I can acquire a version for my device.
Thanks
Doesn't really matter which one you use
V20c is unbranded, don't know about v20g.
Would it be correct to say that the reason I cant get this software update through the LG Support Tool or on my Canadian carriers website is because it isn't offered at this time by my specific carrier?
Therefore its been put out mainly to international carriers, hence why I would have to use an unbranded generic firmware? Just wanted to inquire so that when I complete the flash I'm fully educated as to which version I'll be using. Does anyone happen to know if NFC (near field communication) is supported in this unbranded version?
EDIT: Just to add. There appears to be a notice at the bottom of the page mentioning no 2G/3G data - wait for new release. Is this relative to the official 2.3?
So I am experiencing much lag on the 2.2.1 firmware that I am currently running ton this P500H for these reasons I will be attempting to flash to the official 2.3 in hopes of better performance.
Looking to clarify some instruction from the OFFICIAL LG GB thread listed in one of the responses. The tutorial states to flash "the russian way" and provides a HOW TO for using the LG DMP tool. In the tutorial the method says "This HOWTO is for users who want to switch from stock LG 2.3.3 ROM to CM7 or other older ROMs that are NOT based LG's on v20 ROM or vice versa"
My question with the statement is how does it impact the fact that Im on a stock 2.2.1 not flashing to a CM7 or vice versa. Which baseband would I be using as I am not sure what exactly this 2.3 is based on and I am running a v10s.
My guess is I would download the second baseband file in the thread listed as "- P500-v20G-baseband.7z is for official v20[abdg....] ROMs and ROMs based upon it (e.g., GingerLOL, v20G stock ROM, customized v20G ROM, 0x0v3rfl0w ROM and GingerCriccoROM)." and then flash the v20g 2.3 firmware.
If anyone can elaborate so that I dont brick this device when flashing
Another part of the article says "Eventually, all new ROMs will switch to new baseband by default, so it is useful as well if you want to avoid the complete KDZ/Russian way flash which wipes everything." Would this mean flashing "the russian way" with .kdz file would mean not having to change the baseband in the LGDMP tool. Kind of like an all in one solution instead of a drawn out process? I found a post with instructions for KDZ updater but dont have a file for 2.3 android to flash. What is the suggested method and steps? If anyone can clarify
Move this to General section..!!
Guess this should be in the General section and not in development..
Theres a kdz file of europe and russian version on xda.. search for it.. flash it usin kdz and you are done.. you get new baseband and then root using superoneclick.. you will lose your data.. but you can back it up using titanium backup.. flash recovery n den you are ready to use any of the new custom romz.. they perform well in quadrants.. not as much as those developed by our heroes like mik andy and all.. but for a stock rom those values are good.. i reverted back to miks cyanogenmod for itz performance.. anyway, if you want a stable, ALMOST bug free rom, go in for stock 2.3.3... there are minor bugs.. like status bar icons not alligned and stuff but you can manage with it...
works perfectly
Hi
My problem is "Waiting for device"
My LG is on version 2.2.2 and it says that there is no Upgrade available
I spent 3-4 hours trying to root my phone but failed. Do I need to root cell phone before I upgrade to version 2.3.4 or can I switch to version 2.3.4 and then Root Cell Phone
Every time I try to Root my phone i get error "Waiting for device"
My debbugin is on, and I turned of my firewall is there something else i need to do to get Rooting Right ?
Thx
You can safely update to 2.3.4 and then root using one of these guides:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953182
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327599
Thx
That second link for update to 2.3.4 GingerBread works 100% on my LG Optimus 2x ?
EDIT : Can i get link for updating my LG from Froyo 2.2.2 to Gingerbread 2.3.4 , safetly
It should work, follow the guide to the letter and you should have rooted your phone.
Here's your link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327929
Wait
First link is for Rooting phone
Second is for update to Gingerbread
Third is for Rooting phone on Gingerbread ?
No, the first three are all for rooting
The fourth one is for updating manually to GingerBread
Ok .. soo first i Root my phone by one of that 3 links and then i update to Gingerbread (4th link) ?
The other way around
If you first root and then update, you might lose your root, so...
First update then root.
By the way: After you root, do you want a stock LG rom or a custom one...?
Explame me what that means xD
Haha ok
Stock LG rom is just the normal rom from LG you have right now but then a little improved (removed unnecessary software and apps). Normally the people who like the looks of the stock rom choose Stock-based roms.
Custom roms are roms completely different than LG. They look different and they have different apps/software. Most people out here prefer custom roms like CyanogenMod or MIUI. I prefer CyanogenMod too because it's in my opinion overall better than stock rom.
You can find these roms in the development section. The reason why I asked you this is because if you want to have a custom rom, you don't need to update to 2.3.4. You just can root 2.2 and flash one of these custom roms over it. This will automatically update your phone to GingerBread.

No I didn´t try OTA update . I bought LG 2 days ago soo kinda new here xD
Try one first,
go to settings ----> about phone ----> phone version (or something like that, not sure) and do the update from there. Trust me, this is much easier than the kdz method. If there is no OTA, then you should use the kdz method.

Well i did this metod to root my phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953182
But how i can be sure that my phone is Rooted successfully ?
There are a lot of ways to check that. You can either look in your app list for an app called Superuser. If you have this app then you should have rooted successfully. But if you want to be 100% sure, download the root checker app and see for yourself .
Hey guys,
I just rooted my phone yesterday on stock 2.3.4 and got this annoying issue: Every time I shut down and restart my phone, some settings revert to default on their own. For instance, text input language becomes german (was the default language when I bought the phone), input text sounds are activated again, and so are mobile networks which I must disable quickly because they mean charges.
Could you please shed some light here? Thanks!

AFAIK, this is the only way... Because you have no OTA it seems that this is the only option. But I'm not sure about that.
My advice is to search, perhaps there is an easier way to do so.
EDIT: Download Rom Manager (app) and from there install ClockworkMod Recovery. With recovery you can flash a stock-based gingerbread rom on your phone! (how could I not think of that earlier ) make sure to do a nandroid backup in recovery mode.
EDIT 2: You might wanna try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408919
Flash this in recovery mode.
Or you can just go directly to the latest KANG-54 build. Android 2.3.7, very stable and smooth as butter.

Hi all!
Few days ago i updated my lg p990 via LGMobile update service to 2.3.4 Gingerbread V20m with no problems. I`m from Serbia btw. Then i rooted my phone and installed clockwork recovery to backup my rom. I made a mistake to do that after i performed root so now when i restore my rom the phone is rooted again and i can`t use update utility anymore! It says my model is not suported. I then used SuperOneClick to unroot and r1-stockrecovery-2x-unsigned zip to remove recovery and it did that but still can`t update or restore original stock V20m rom with update utility. I even managed to install V20l ROM and baseband via Smartflash and offcourse still no update posibility and "not supported model" message. Yesterday i downloaded from XDA, Netherland stock V20m but, guess what, still not supported. Can anyone tell me how to or what to do to make my phone update officialy again with LG tool. THNX in advance

Well you have go download correct files. I don't remember very well where the download location is.

I am from Croatia and after that my phone accept automaticly update.
Now I am on Cyanogenmod because it is so much better than stock.

Hello all
Im new to the world of LG, already owning Samsungs Galaxy phones, I'm familiar with 'Rooting, Odin, Reset Flash Counts,Roms etc'
So the LG Optimus 2X LGP990 Star I have is Android based and is currently running on:
Ginger Bread V 2.3.4
Baseband 1035.21
Kernel 2.6.32
Build Number GRJ22
LGE Version LGP990-V20I
So then the questions are:
Is there an alternative program to Odin ?
Is there a program similar to Samsung kies ?
Is there a recovery mode / download mode key config ?
Is there a 'firmware site' like 'sammobile' to download firmware from ?
Does ICS 4.0.x exist for this phone, if yes how can I install it?
I've been to the LG software support section and installed the Win Drivers and the support tool and thats about it for support.
It says the phone is at the latest version - V20L
So many thanks for reading and hope fully some one will be able to point me in the right direction.
:good::good:
Root the phone, install Rom Manager, open it and from its menu install Clockworkmod recovery which is the main tool u need for rom flashing.
Theres no ics sadly,we wait for it.
Sent from my LG-P990
you mean alternative for pc suit???
Alternative for LG PC suit is "my phone explorer", Google it. And firm ware is NV flash tool for installation of recovery mode "Do no use any app for installing CWM " you can get this tools by browsing xda in 2x forums.
I can not paste direct links,I am typing this message from my 2x.
And there will be an official update released soon.
Thank you.
Thats great to hear a possible ICS rom, hopefully official.
I'm surprised there wasn't one for this phone before the Samsung Galaxy Range.
Comparing the speed / responsiveness of the LG Optimus phone and the Samsung Galaxy S2 / Note - I'd say the speed of the optimus is far quicker and responsive - it's a nifty little phone :good:
There's another thead in this section on rooting the LGP 990 for the 1st time, just read it and the principles are the same as for the Galaxy S2 or Note.
So basically I use 'super one click 2.3.2' - probably an exe file for the pc?
I have CWM apk app installer I downloaded and kept for my Samsung phones - yes it works ok
But alternatively, I install:
1) Rom manager 1st - which then gives me the option to install CWM from within it
2) Boot into CWM recovery mode from that option in Rom Manager
No odin though, install rom image as a zip file from the ext / int sd card.
I notice there are no 'safe / unstable kernels to flash prior to and post rooting the LGP990?
I presume whatever rom I install, will erase / wipe over the original template already in the phone?
What is the best rom to install on the LGP990 at the minute, or is it worth just waiting for the ICS rom?
Cheers for the help :good:
The main advantage of the O2X as a dev phone, in my opinion, is that it is almost impossible to brick it, with the possible (but I didn't ever encounter it) exception of a failed baseband flash. It is really fool proof to root, no unsafe boot images or bootloaders to flash, simply run any known "hack" and you will end up with root.
There are many ways you can get into the custom ROM game. The easiest one was already mentioned: Root with SuperOneClick => ROM Manager => Flash CWM => boot into recovery from ROM Manager or by turning on the phone with power and Volume Down button pressed.
An alternative would be to use the script provided by Paul O Brien over at modaco which gives you a CWM installation without rooting or using ROM Manager.
Stock ROMs are available as .kdz files and pre rooted CWM images here in the dev section, enabling you to use NVFlash/Smartflash with the former and CWM with the latter to return your phone to a stock state. I suggest staying away from flashing basebands unless you have a specific problem you aim to solve with another baseband, our CM maintainer hasn't changed his baseband ever, and he (like me) uses the oldest version known to this forum. Whenever you flash a ROM, make sure your Baseband matches your RIL file, which can be done easily with the GetRIL app from the Play Store.
ICS ROMs to date are sort of hit and miss. I used owains builds, Nova HD and currently Paranoid Android. If you are fine with a glitchy Phone that might simply restart itself randomly once you open any app from time to time, can't record/play hardware accelerated video due to missing drivers or slow down if you haven't rebooted for a while you can flash away.
If you're comfortable with the Gingerbread builds atm I suggest flashing the latest CM7 RC or Nightly and wait for the official ICS update which will hopefully arrive in the next 2-3 months.

that's nifty nice quick cool understandable first info. thanks a lot. (I knew that already by searching way a lot more topics than it could be, but your summary is cool. Thanks again.)

have you solved this already?
I believe that you should go there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737 :fingers-crossed:
I see there are a lot of articles saying how this should be done but at least in my case I haven't had luck with any of them.
After you read this you must realize I'm a noob on this.
I have ICS 4.0.4 Stock Firmware from TELCEL, Mexico and I'm having no luck getting the custom ROM installed or at least downgrade I think it will be better. The main problem with the phone is the battery life and it's slow, all after the phone upgraded to ICS.
I will do anything you guys suggest if you could please point me in the right direction.
A few things I've tried:
I've Rooted the phone using Unlock Root application suggested by one of the post I found here.
I've Installed ROM Manager and flashed the CWM Recovery Touch tool and followed the instructions to use a Zip, I was trying with the Zeuz Gingerbread ROM I downloaded from here but after the phone reboots all I get is "LG logo saying SECURITY ERROR"
Anyone has gone through this issue?
BTW: after the LG Security Error I have to get into S/W Upgrade and run the LG Mobile Support Tool to let it flash the stock firmware again.

The boot loader is locked. There are a number of tutorials on how to unlock it, but you need the original Froyo or Gingerbread ROM images from LG. Locating those seems to be the tough part. You downgrade to the earlier version, then you unlock.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction
