Antivirus? Is there a need? If so which one is best thanks
Try Lookout
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
To be honest, I doubt that you need it. As long as you watch your downloading etc habits.
I have no issue with odin.....If I were to catch something it's back to stock and reflash for me. No antivirus here. BTW - this is not advise, it's just my personal motto.
Thanks I'm gonna try agv or lookout if not for the antivirus then for the finding my phone if I lose it somehow

seconding this, just make sure the app you download only has access to what it is suppose to do, on a side note, I use antivirus free.
I feel they are pretty pointless as long as you get all your apps from the market and read the reviews before downloading anything.
Just be smart about what you download.
it only wastes battery.
go look at any thread about "crappy battery" you will notice 1 thing!
they all run antivirus
One word LINUX.
That is what android is. It will only do what you tell it to.
As others have said watch what you download. The only way to infect your phone is by your own mis-judgement. There are no auto installers, you have to approve everything you do.
That being said why would you need an anti-virus?
I mostly agree with that...
However, with the recent issue with Google pulling several Malware apps from the market(most that were duplicates of legitimate apps)
I am a bit worried about where this is heading.
Although I suggest using Droidwall
With a white list to only allow specific apps to access internet.
Listen, I'm brand new to the cappy, so I'm here to learn, and new to Android, and I just learned tho ditch my a/v!

Anyone have the nexus 7? Should I choose it over the tf300t?
Yes?

I have the tf300 and love it. I believe it comes down to 7" or 10"...what size do you prefer? The specs are very similar.

That's what she said! lol... I bought the Nexus 7 for my three year old and she loves it. Not to take anything away from the tablet itself, it's awesome but it all comes down to what you're comfortable with. Size ain't **** when it comes to the newest firmware but firmware ain't **** if you're not happy with the size. It feels like there's something missing, a nice nine inches or so would be perfect but for the price, you can't beat the nexus 7...

Free Website Design for XDA Members
As the title states, I am going to be making websites for XDA members, as long as any one of the points below apply:
a) Simple, no online payments/logins/etc
b) Really in a short budget and need someone to make their website
c) A non-profit/small business that needs someone to help with their site
d) Have some time on their hands(It will usually take 2 days for a site)
e) Want to get a free website design!
Q. Why am I doing this?
A: I am a fairly new web developer who has about 4 websites under his belt(Examples Below) and would like to simply help people while gaining some experience. All my four clients are from four different countries, and 1 XDA member is also part of them.
Q.Why should I trust YOU?
A: Because there is nothing to lose from getting a website from me, and you are not forced to do so:good:
Q.Will you make me a 300 page megasite with huge requirements?
A: As much as I want to, I really do not have the time, nor the will to design something >60 pages.
Q. What do you use to make your site? Will you provide me with manual project files?
A: This is a very personal question for me, and I am not comfortable to answer this question. I will though, let you know that most of the project is done with notepad. That is all I can tell you. I can not provide you with the manual project files. Sorry.
Q. Have you ever worked with any XDA members' site?
A: Yes, I have. I have worked with user JONBOY345 and I am sure he has positive feedback from me.
Q. I have more questions.
A: PM Me.
Things that I need to build your site:
1. Your FTP Username
2. Your FTP Password
Sites I had made:

Okay - I'll bite.
First off, I was careful in my wording. Html is used for making websites - not websites are made with html
Secondly, Python (if used for web development) is a server-side language, so you'd still need html to get a working site
Question still makes no sense though! :silly:

I can't speak for everyone, but if you are into it and actually want to learn it, it is more fun than "How hard is it?"
I am not studying web developing, but I did my research for a long time(>2 years).
There will be times you wish you never took it, especially when learning some CSS(GODDAMN APOSTROPHE KEY Y U NO BECOME AUTOMATIC SOMETIMES) but all in all, it is very worth it. You don't have to get a job to earn some small $$$, because you can tell people, advertise online, etc.

Hi, I like to keep this secret(My tools) but if you try hard you can easily tell what I used. I'll give you some hints, I use a combo of Adobe: PS, Fireworks, Dreamweaver and sometimes I get scripts and position them accordingly. I will be honest here, NONE of my sites are completely based off notepad, and upon consulting more of my web dev colleagues, I have learned that using notepad/notepad++ is too time consuming and actually decreases productivity.
However, at the end of the day, if the client is happy regardless of what I used to make it, I am also happy.

I just did, though, there are rumours saying that something is wrong with, too lazy to dig in, but it does the job, flawlessly I must say.
Yes you can, but theres a lot discussion about kingo root
Sent from my GT-P5110 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It will root your phone, but will collect and send a lot of data to China in order to do so.
Kingo claim that they no longer collect your IMEI, but say nothing about device ID/serial numbers etc that they have been caught sending unencrypted to their server before.
I do not trust them at all and the fact that their app is currently not allowed on XDA says a lot.
Edit - Also, the guy saying he is too lazy to find out what is wrong with the Kingo app is just the sort of person that creators of malware rely upon to both use and propagate their apps. Laziness is no excuse to use and recommend use of questionable software, ever.

Well maybe there is, but kingo happen to stumble upon me. I never did said that he should be doing the same, but since he was asking, and I happen to have gone through it, I just said it, I even said that they were kind of suspicious, but just wanna let you know, the way you reply doesn't help that much either.
Thanks, and have a nice day
I really don't care what you did to your phone, but suspicious software that is banned from this site is not 'flawless'.
I posted merely to make sure that anyone with any sense that viewed this thread knew of its suspicious nature and stayed away from it.

Normally I'd agree with your point, but here I think this thread has value - if perhaps for only a limited time. I've been reading the other thread religiously, but it -- like many threads lately, has become (understandably) heavily involved with operation on "L". It also branches off on many (valid) tangents on the subject - which is absolutely the point of the thread. However, easily lost in all that is this one simple tip that seems to resolve the one key, basic problem for those of us on KK who have the update & who are otherwise fully compliant and increasingly frustrated -- this gets it to work. So, for the sake of clarity & simplicity, I feel this is a perfectly reasonable & extremely valuable topic for the week or two... or three in which some number of us will be endlessly checking to see if we've finally had the feature flipped on. At the very least, the clarity of the thread title alerts members that some of us may actually need to "Force" it to work.
In other cases I'm not nearly so keen on breaking down subjects to such a granular level.

Go take a nap NaterTots, you're apparently grumpy. Despite what he wrote in the first post, this is a very helpful thread. The other thread didn't even have this solution, and goes about installing various APKs to get it working. In this case, you type 3 words into the app and it now works. Hugely nice.

That I kinda doubt. There was great flexibility in 4.4, but an early update (either KK or Search, can't recall which) cut us back to just OK Google. I suppose they wanted to limit chances of accidental triggers. With hotword everywhere I'd think they have even more of an incentive to keep this limitation in place. Ah well, it's no big deal but I can't help felling just a bit goofy reciting that script. :silly:

Go take a nap NaterTots, you're apparently grumpy. Despite what he wrote in the first post, this is a very helpful thread. The other thread didn't even have this solution, and goes about installing various APKs to get it working. In this case, you type 3 words into the app and it now works. Hugely nice.

I did this on both my n5 and n4 earlier today(this morn), and only audio history and manage audio history shows up, not the other options. funny thing is, I did my coworkers phone as well, and all the options showed up for his phone

Are all devices on US English? Though hotword had been working on UK English for me I lose the new "Everywhere" feature if I switch away from US.

mine are. but its not country centered, and even read it'll work on 9 languages so far. but for me, the trick didn't work. probably because google didn't enable my account yet.

Lousy 'trick' will only work on after the device is actually enabled. As to country-centred that's why I expected it to still work on UK English. I had only changed to US English out of frustration as I was waiting & waiting for the feature to kick in. I'm not actually in the UK, but I do prefer her speaking voice.
This kind of messed up my voice search. It recognized "ok google" to open up the search but nothing else. I had to delete Search data to get it working properly again. =\
