I know many threads are already handling the one or the other problem.
But I tried to follow all the recommended steps of several guides and instructions.
Most of the parts also worked, but now I got stuck which results in always bricking the phone.
What I want:
Transfer from a Stock ROM (S5830i_XXLD3_S5830iDBTLD2_S5830iXXLD2 Germany)
towards Simplicity v3.5 SG2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2041264
including newest Rafael Kernel (2.6.35-7) #201212101860 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818830
and using this script/guide in order to use a second partition of my sd card http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082465
I already was at one point where Simplicity v3.5 was running on the phone and the script for increasing internal memory was almost working
(it was strange because even though the size of 2nd partititon (sdext2) was increasing after an app installation, the size of the internal memory was also increasing.
Someone said I should install the latest kernel, result = bricked phone.
Now I got several recommendations that I strictly have to follow the order of the instructions, what i always did.
Now here the order/sequence of the guides how i should operate and then I tell u what worked and where it stopped. Actually everything worked until I was about to flash the kernel.
Sequence:
Flash back to Stock Rom using Odin 1.85
Stock rom fully loaded and no problems
Red color are the explainations by me, so you can see what i did and how i used the guides.
CWM 5.0.2.6
Using this guide for the internal memory/sd-card solution : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082465
1) Open CWM Recovery
2) Go to "Advanced"
3) Select "Partition SD Card"
4) Choose your SD-ext size (I have 16GB, that is why I chose 2048MB in CWM)
5) Select "0M" Swap.
6) Wait for the procces finish.
7) Reboot.
New step, forgot to root the phone before, so I have to put update.zip on SD-card and flash it in CWM
used from this source http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552792
reboot --> SuperUser
8) Now download Link2SD from Playstore.
9) Open Link2SD you will be prompted to choose between ext2, ext3, ext4 or FAT32.
10) First , Choose ext2. <-- this works for me (a little bit strange, because some other people said CWM usually creates ext3 2nd partition
11) It will say mount script created. Reboot your phone now.
12) Open link2sd and if the message doesn’t show up, you succeded.
13) Go to Link2sd>Settings>check the autolink.
So first sequence finished.
15) Now your SD Card is formated .
16) Place the CronMod Script on your SD Card ( data2ext-fixed file ) <--- i assume the author just means the data2ext-fixed file from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955422 <-- the other means the other versions lag and not support GPS
17) Open CWM again
18) Format /data /sd-ext /system
19) Mount /system
20) Flash custom rom
Now here I use the guide from Simplicity thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2041264
2) Boot in Recovery. (HOME+VOLUME UP+POWER).
3) Wipe data/reset, Wipe cache partition.
4) Then go to advanced & wipe Dalvik cache , wipe battery stats...
5) mount system/data in mount & storage menu of cwm
6) Then choose zip from sdcard & Flash. flash the custom ROM Simplicity v.3.5 SG2
Now another user "kewkie" helped me, because I was asking about this problem in the Simplicity thread, about the order sequence for installing the rom and the kernel. He said I should first flash the custom rom and then directly without a reboot the kernel and the modules and then reboot
Kernel and modules are taken from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818830
in this thread i selected <<< Custom Kernel and Modules >>> from this source
https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=68fa...#cid=68FAEF65039E2178&id=68FAEF65039E2178!287
After flashing kernel and then modules (without problem) i restart the phone
I also tried to do the steps above and also include the usual step from the "increase internal memory guide" before the restart and then reboot the phone, these steps would include the following:
21) Remount /system
22) Flash "data2ext-fixed" script.
23) Reboot
And now here is the problem, it is bricked.
So i have to do everything again.
I can't flash the Kernel before applying the custom rom, because then the custom rom (which use stock kernel) will override rafael kernel.
So it is a quite complex idea.
U ask why I want to apply the latest kernel?
First of all, shouldn't it help to reduce battery power (maybe I also got it wrong)
but on the other side, some people mentioned the problem with the increasing memory size even though I did all steps of the guides has to do with the fact that I don't have the most recent kernel.
I've done several steps of those guides already several times and I get kind of tired doing it again and again without success.
Everything was working, I could complete all steps (without the kernel update) without any problem, but then the internal memory problem would not be solved, because it is still increasing.
If someone is not believing that the internal memory is increasing even though I made all these steps, I wrote it down in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36371414&postcount=23
Hope someone can help me, I'm really desperate.

After you link an application over have a look using your file manager or whatever where its located, if it says phone then its on your 2nd partition, unless of course it is actually on your phone :silly:
link2sd does not move data only the apk and cache and some other stuff so your phones memory should have some stuff on it
then restart your phone so the memory counter will refresh and give you an accurate reading of your internal memory
your phone memory should be increasing as more apps are being linked to your 2nd partition....
= If your phones working why would you flash to the latest kernel if it crashes it (unless of course you are seriously low on memory)
==If ive even remotely helped or looked as if i know what im talking about lol dont forget to "Thank" me
Problem solved, thread can be closed or deleted
Solved the problem, thanks to everybody who helped (from various other threads).

Hi dev's and other Android tweakers,
I'm familiar with most of the basics in (Android) phone upgrading (like backing up and installing new rom's, radios, recovery's, metamorphs etc), but soon I need to perform a quite complex upgrade procedure and I would like to have your experienced thoughts on the details.
The case, upgrading:
FROM
Cyanogenmod 6.0.0-N1 (FRF91)
(CM pershoot kernel 2.6.35.8 // radio 32.50.00.32H_5.12.00.08) -- yeah I know, may seem to you like stone age
4GB stock SD card
stock Froyo APPS2SD
Amon_RA recovery
TO
Cyanogenmod 7.0.2.1
new 16GB SD Card (microSD of course )
Darktremor APPS2SD (!!)
latest Clockworkmod Recovery
The upgrading path I've thought out so far:
1. Titanium Backup all apps+data and perform a SMS (text message) Backup
2. Copy all SD card contents to PC, of course including the TiB backup data (simple copy-paste in Windows Explorer)
3. Perform a Nandroid
4. full system, data & cache wipe of all partitions in Amon_RA
5. Factory reset
6. flash the latest Clockwordmod
7. swap SD cards, format new SD card to fat32 and creating an ext3 partition; all using Clockworkmod.
8. copy the images of Darktremor Apps2SD and CM7 to the newly formatted SD card (in recovery).
9. flash Darktremor Apps2SD
10. flash CM7 (preceded by an extra full wipe in Clockwork??)
11. flash Google Apps
12. (boot and test basics)
13. copy the SD card contents back from the PC and restore apps+data with TiB.
14. Move formerly "installed to SD card"-apps back to "internal storage" (which actually is the ext3 partition of course) since I have enough space now anyway.
My most important questions;
- Is this a preferable order of steps?
- Have I forgot something (radio?) ?
Thanks!
Wrong order in more than one place:
First step 3, then step 2 - otherwise your Nandroid isn't backed up on the PC.
Step 5 isn't doable and isn't needed - "Wipe all user data" >= "Factory reset".
Skip flashing Clockworkmod altogether - you don't need it to install CM7, if you want it - first install CM7 and then flash it from there, later.
Steps 10 and 11 before step 9 - otherwise you'll erase DT's Apps2SD with the ROM you're flashing. It needs to be flashed AFTER the ROM, not before.
After step 12, reboot to make DT's Apps2SD work.
My suggestion: backup User Apps+Data ONLY, no system data whatsoever - and set the system data again. The only system data safe for copying and moving to CM7 would be WiFi access points.
Thanks for the corrections
Factory reset (step 5) seemed obsolete to me as well, but Cyan recommends it somehow in the installation instructions (see http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/20115-cyanogenmod-7-for-the-nexus-one-v7021-25-april-2011/ ). Same goes for Clockworkmod Recovery. May work just as well with a half-year-old Amon_RA, but to be on the safe side, I'd rather use what is recommended by the ROM dev.
As for the backing up; I was indeed planning only to back up User Data+Apps, to prevent compatibility issues that could occur when backing up system data of another Android version.
Id recommend avoiding clockwork mod altogether.
Far too many issues that could lead to a suddenly wiped or unreadable SD card. Many users have had this happen to them already.

Your steps make it impossible to flash another recovery - since you have nothing to flash it with, unless you have unlocked bootloader, know how to use fastboot and have the image ready. If you want to do recovery exchange - which I don't suggest - do it while you're still running your old ROM.
Factory reset can be done during your steps, but it's not trivial - it should be done from bootloader, since the recovery doesn't have the option, AFAIK. The option is replaced by "Wipe ALL user data".
I was indeed planning to use fastboot (which I use regularly) to flash the recovery. However, since you all advise against changing recovery ROM (to Clockworkmod), I'll stay with Amon_RA.
before i go any further on my phone please help me :
this is what i did :
1- i partioned my sd card be 4ext recovery choosing 512 on 1st and 2048 on second and 128 as swap and finally i chose 3ext
2- then i downloaded darkmetor a2sd ind installed from recovery (during this my rom was normal cyanogen0
3- then i flash medroid 7.2 based on cyanogenmod rom which supports a2sd (before that i wipe cache and dalvik)
4- then when i rebooted twice manually i saw that i still have insufficient storage
so i fully wiped and instal darkometor script again and now i already rebooted twice but when i download internal decreases , i tried typing in terminal emulator su the a2sd reinstall but it failed and it said that a2sd seems not too be booted at startup , i dont know what im doing andwhat to do anymore , please help me and guide me
Your setup is a bit off; try this:
1) I highly recommend you wipe everything (backup apps with Titanium Backup) and start over fresh. If not, you can still probably continue.
2) I would also recommend that you make the EXT partition size bigger, about 1gb. And try not to use swap (set it to 0). It has no positive effect on performance, and some rumor it can harm your SD card over time.
3) Try another script. Scripts like DarkTremor, S2E, and others have issues where the device will say low memory when the partition is only half full. Try this script (flashable in recovery), I HIGHLY recommend it; it mounts the EXT as internal and works really great. Link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310309
Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any other questions.
not sure why you installed 4ext recovery then installed DT--4ext has worked quite well for me, Amon_Ra for a very long time before that
you only need 1 sdext for CM7
as mentioned 1gb and 0 swap
if using DT you flash CM7 then flash DT beta4 before rebooting, maybe even gapps between CM7 and DT--see what OP says on what's included
install Titanium Backup then just a couple apps like Term Emu if it is not already installed
then run your scripts thru terminal emulator
a2sd reinstall
a2sd zipalign
a2sd noswap
a2sd cachesd
phone will reboot after reinstall and cachesd or should--
some people reboot once right after first boot before doing anything else
most people are using sd ext4 not 3 atm, as far as I know
ken
As CSP said, you should make 1st ext bigger than the 2nd one. I even don't recommend you to make 2nd ext partition, very rarely rom that require it. Choose 1GB for 1st ext, skip 2nd ext, and skip swap. But if you want to make 2nd ext, try 1GB for 1st ext, 512/256 for 2nd. Remember to back up your sdcard first.
Before flashing the rom, try to wipe all partition except sd card, find it on recovery menu. You should flash the rom first, then flash the a2sd script. From your post, I see you screwed up the order.
To run the script, after rebooting and setting up, if you use the latest DT, type "a2sd reinstall" in terminal. I also usually run "a2sd cachesd" to move dalvik-cache, "a2sd zipalign" for alignment purpose on boot-up.
Add: Arrgg, rugmankc beat me
i did as u said , specialy moenexus but i got permission denied in TE and it didnt work
can you open and use Titanium if not you may need to reinstall Superuser or add TE to your Superuser list--in its' settings
ken
Thanks guys it worked using the script that CSP recommended , thnx to u all
I reverted from the dual poot through internal partitions.
The dualboot was set up via this topic.

After that I ran the revert dual boot zip and then used the customer partition setup from this thread.

Suddenly, I could only boot to cwm. No matter what boot option I would choose, cwm would load. It would let me flash roms but I could not boot into them. I eventually got around this by re-installing cwm using rom manager from a rom running on an sd card.
That created a new problem. Every time I tried to boot, it would not mount emmc. I tried installing the rom MiRaGe. This had the strange effect of mounting my sd card as emmc and my internal drive as my sdcard
I found this guide and tried to restore my partitions back to original
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25354258#post25354258
I am using the cwm from that thread as well. I am back to booting into a black screen no matter what rom I use.
Are there any suggestions on what I can do next?
Sounds like you have your partitions pretty messed up. Go to my partition repair thread linked in my signature and follow the guidance there, including doing the partition 2 repair. Do not forget to format the partitions immediately after the repair zip is run.
That swapping of emmc media and sdcard is a setting inside of CM7. It is intended for users who have no SD and want to use emmc media as sdcard.

Thank you for your help.
Here are the steps as I read it and the order in which I did it
1) Flash sd card with CWM-5.5.0.4-bootable_SD.zip
2) Copy NookColor-emmc-format-partitions-5-6-7-8.zip, NookColor-emmc-repair-partition-2.zip, and NookColor-emmc-repair-partitions-1-4-5-6-7-8.zip, and update-encore-cwm.5.5.0.4-emmc-racks.zip.
3) Boot into cwm from sd card
4) install zip "NookColor-emmc-repair-partitions-1-4-5-6-7-8.zip"
5) reboot system
6) install zip "Copy NookColor-emmc-format-partitions-5-6-7-8.zip"
7) reboot system
8) install "NookColor-emmc-repair-partition-2.zip" (This does report success)
9) reboot system
10) install "update-encore-cwm.5.5.0.4-emmc-racks.zip"
11) reboot into cwm
Now that I am boot into cmw (I took out the sd card before boot to make sure it installed properly,) I follow these steps
1) Install rom and gapps (encore_CM72-MiRaGe-09302012.zip) It reports sucess
2) Boot into black screen.
Can you tell me if I am missing a step or if I am doing one of the previous steps incorrect?
****edit - I seem to be able to install cm9.
I'll report back after testing it out.

You did everything right. You may have had a bad download of the mirage zip.
Right, ive rooted my note, and im looking for an iPhone type Miui theme rom, ive looked at how to install the new rom and i have no idea what to do, it says that i cant flash on stock ICS ROM, currently running 4.0.1 atm, and it also says something about Aroma Installer. i am a big newb when it comes to this, i dont wanna f**k my phone up so can someone help me and tell me what to do please?
Firstly remove the stock kernel, thats what it is referring to, So flash something safe like Philz or Hydracore.
And also, Aroma installer is something that will appear when flashing via CWM, it is a neat feature which allows you to pick and choose optional extras to install, or to remove certain things from installing.
Once it appears just follow the instructions, its simple really.
when i rooted it i changed to franko kernel? what do i need to flash Miui ROM Vengeance Note v2_4-08 09 2012? im downloading that atm
Go with something popular like philz or hydracore, it will be overwritten once the ROM installs anyway.
Make sure to do the wipes (if necessary)
so i install that kernel, then flash the rom using cwm and it says to do a wipe, how do i wipe it?
In recovery there are several options, you will need to wipe data / Factory reset, then wipe cache, then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache.
You may also need to format /system and /preload, you will find these under the mounts and storage menu

i still have no idea what to do.. all i know is when doing a new rom install in from sd card is all i know, i need an easy to understand explaination lol because what you're saying is just letters to me, if you can tell me how to do it because i dont know what im doing..
Okay, so you're completely stock now right? If so, head over to original android development section and download either philz kernel for your version (find this in settings > about phone) or hydracore kernel (this needs to be flashed with odin unless you are already rooted with Cwm recovery, if not just use philz)
Once downloaded place on your internal sd card, power the phone off, hold volume up + home + power all at once until you enter recovery.
Now select apply update from sd card or update . zip (can't remember which one) once flashed do the same procedure again, this time you will notice how different it is.
Now either mount usb storage in recovery (under mounts and storage) or reboot the phone to use mtp / mass storage.
Place MIUI rom in your internal sd card, reboot into recovery, select wipe data / Factory reset (will remove all apps and data, not media, so backup what's important before hand)
Now select wipe cache, then go to advanced and select wipe dalvik cache.
Now go to install zip from sd card, then choose zip from internal sd card, find the MIUI rom and flash it.
Once done, reboot and wait upto 10mins for it to boot properly.
Double check to MIUI thread for install instructions as you may need to format system and preload too when performing the full wipe in recovery.

good luck paul on your install

The ROM files in the above link are the only way available right now to flash for me. I can't even root this.
In this thread, sesetxu, a user of xda, modified the zimage and repacked XXJVU which made my phone turn on (I partitioned my microSD card to make this work). But neither I am able to root my phone, nor my camera works ("turn off usb storage to use camera") and also gallery is not usable as it shows("no SD card detected").When I go to 'SD card and phone storage' under 'settings' in my i9000, only system memory is available (showing around 1.87GB) while usb storage and SD card are showing unavailable.
I have read many threads regarding this, most of them indicate to edit vold.fstab file. But as my phone is not rooted, I can't edit it.
Also I am not able to mount my SD card by flashing any recovery and not able to use it in recovey.
Can you please help me bring out of this problem?
Help will be appreciated If someone make a Rooted kernel of any rom, which install OS directly on the SD card and makes my external SD card accessible (Coz I know my internal SD is dead)
THANKS in advance!
I got the same problem as yours but the difference is I'm getting "E:format_volume:rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2" instead you've mentioned. The only solution I did is to manually take out the internal sdcard by disassembling the phone and dismount the chip with Sandisk printed on it. Then use an sdcard at least 8gb, format it using linux, first primary partition is fat32, second primary partition is reiserfs. Mount the external sdcard, flash stock gb rom then root it.
Short guide how to recover your I9000 with dead eMMC:
1. Create two FAT32 partitions on SD card, the first one will be used as internal sd card, the second one will be used as internal phone memory (/data)
2. Download XXJVT ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
3. Use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152740 to add root acces, but stop after steep 5.
4. Find all occurences of mmcblk0 in extracted text files (do not touch binaries)
5. Replace mmcblk0 with mmcblk1, so your /sdcard will be mapped to first partion on device mmcblk1 and your /data will be mapped to second partiotion on mmcblk1.
6. Recompile and tar kernel.
7. Flash XXJVT ROM using Odin (512 layout, propably repartitioning is needed)
8. Reboot phone
9. If you encounter Can't mount /dev/block/stl10 error after reboot, follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184403
10. Flash your custom kernel using odin (PDA)
11. Enter bootloader and wipe all data/factory reset
12. After reboot your phone will have /data partition mounted on SDCard, and will be rooted, so you will be able to install Superuser and root browser from market.
13. The last step is to change vold.fstab to mount /sdcard from first partition from s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host_mmc2 and to mount external_sd from third partition from s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host_mmc2. It's not a mistake, we have to mount external_sd from not existing partition/device.
14. Now your phone should show that there is no SDCard inserterd, your internal usb memory should be equal to size of your first partion, and your phone memory should be equal to size of your second partition.
WARNING: It's not a step-by-step guide, but only some more or less general hints.

I use this one: "XXJVT/XXJVT/OXAJVT/Sbl (MultiCSC): Download (148 MB) (Build date: Thu Sep 29 11:43:43 KST 2011)
(MultiCSC: CPW, DBT, KOR, XEO, XEU)" because I need Polish language support. Unfortunatelly I don't know which one will be best for Italy.
I solved the problem long time ago. If you have SGS with dead emmc and could not find any Solution then PM me, I will send you my odin flash able rom

I tried hard as sesetxu guided but being a noob, I failed and could not have gone past the camera and gallery issue. I almost gave up. Later on @rxxxni helped me by giving his cooked ROM and I succeeded. His solution is in the link below in Spanish language:

I sold my i9000 long time ago. But if you stil wanna install CM10/CM11 you have to just edit the vold.fstab file in root of your storage. You can find the instructions in the same forum or search on xda. However, You can open the spanish page in Google chrome and translate in english and you can understand easily.
Here is the translated page for you. Dont forget to hit the thanks button(only if you feel I have helped you)
