My i9000 went to bootloop and stuck on repeatition of galaxy s logo and after flashing many roms from odin it shows error sothing like (not exactly remember) the below given :
E:failed to mount /data (No such file or directory)

and I never got out of boot loop untill I downloaded the XXJVU modified files from the below thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893354
The ROM files in the above link are the only way available right now to flash for me. I can't even root this.
In this thread, sesetxu, a user of xda, modified the zimage and repacked XXJVU which made my phone turn on (I partitioned my microSD card to make this work). But neither I am able to root my phone, nor my camera works ("turn off usb storage to use camera") and also gallery is not usable as it shows("no SD card detected").When I go to 'SD card and phone storage' under 'settings' in my i9000, only system memory is available (showing around 1.87GB) while usb storage and SD card are showing unavailable.
I have read many threads regarding this, most of them indicate to edit vold.fstab file. But as my phone is not rooted, I can't edit it.
Also I am not able to mount my SD card by flashing any recovery and not able to use it in recovey.
Can you please help me bring out of this problem?
Help will be appreciated If someone make a Rooted kernel of any rom, which install OS directly on the SD card and makes my external SD card accessible (Coz I know my internal SD is dead)
THANKS in advance!
I got the same problem as yours but the difference is I'm getting "E:format_volume:rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2" instead you've mentioned. The only solution I did is to manually take out the internal sdcard by disassembling the phone and dismount the chip with Sandisk printed on it. Then use an sdcard at least 8gb, format it using linux, first primary partition is fat32, second primary partition is reiserfs. Mount the external sdcard, flash stock gb rom then root it.
Short guide how to recover your I9000 with dead eMMC:
1. Create two FAT32 partitions on SD card, the first one will be used as internal sd card, the second one will be used as internal phone memory (/data)
2. Download XXJVT ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
3. Use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152740 to add root acces, but stop after steep 5.
4. Find all occurences of mmcblk0 in extracted text files (do not touch binaries)
5. Replace mmcblk0 with mmcblk1, so your /sdcard will be mapped to first partion on device mmcblk1 and your /data will be mapped to second partiotion on mmcblk1.
6. Recompile and tar kernel.
7. Flash XXJVT ROM using Odin (512 layout, propably repartitioning is needed)
8. Reboot phone
9. If you encounter Can't mount /dev/block/stl10 error after reboot, follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184403
10. Flash your custom kernel using odin (PDA)
11. Enter bootloader and wipe all data/factory reset
12. After reboot your phone will have /data partition mounted on SDCard, and will be rooted, so you will be able to install Superuser and root browser from market.
13. The last step is to change vold.fstab to mount /sdcard from first partition from s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host_mmc2 and to mount external_sd from third partition from s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host_mmc2. It's not a mistake, we have to mount external_sd from not existing partition/device.
14. Now your phone should show that there is no SDCard inserterd, your internal usb memory should be equal to size of your first partion, and your phone memory should be equal to size of your second partition.
WARNING: It's not a step-by-step guide, but only some more or less general hints.

I use this one: "XXJVT/XXJVT/OXAJVT/Sbl (MultiCSC): Download (148 MB) (Build date: Thu Sep 29 11:43:43 KST 2011)
(MultiCSC: CPW, DBT, KOR, XEO, XEU)" because I need Polish language support. Unfortunatelly I don't know which one will be best for Italy.
I solved the problem long time ago. If you have SGS with dead emmc and could not find any Solution then PM me, I will send you my odin flash able rom

I tried hard as sesetxu guided but being a noob, I failed and could not have gone past the camera and gallery issue. I almost gave up. Later on @rxxxni helped me by giving his cooked ROM and I succeeded. His solution is in the link below in Spanish language:

I sold my i9000 long time ago. But if you stil wanna install CM10/CM11 you have to just edit the vold.fstab file in root of your storage. You can find the instructions in the same forum or search on xda. However, You can open the spanish page in Google chrome and translate in english and you can understand easily.
Here is the translated page for you. Dont forget to hit the thanks button(only if you feel I have helped you)

If your phone goes in to download mode you can flash, using Odin, a full stock firmware.
Have you ever update it since you've bought it?

I have a problem saying Cant Mount sdcard
I have the exact same problem as ysr84.. When i click "reboot system now" it just goes back into the boot loop.
Also.. My phone does go into download mode.. I have tried to flash using Odin3 but get the image as ysr84.. My phone then repeats the boot loop sequence..
PS. I do not know which firmware the phone started with, I have been flashing with JVR.
Since I bought the phone I have not tried to update it, I think there was no available update.. =/ not 100% sure..
Although when flashing with JVR I get the "Can't mount etc"

Hello, I have tried to flash my phone with 'any' firmware as I do not know which firmware my phone was on before.
It maybe a trouble with partition.
You can try to re-virgin your phone by flashing an old eclair (JM8/JM9) firmware always using odin with pit 512, re-partition flagged.
Be careful if using a copy with bootloader.
After that (if phone boot regurarly) you can get any gingerbread firmware, obviusly if you used in the previous step bootloader for eclair firmware, than you'll get a copy of gingerbread with it's bootloader.
But i'm not sure this helps you.
Hope you solve this, guy.

If you, using 7ZIP, extract the archive PDA.TAR.MD5, from a package firmware with 3 files+pit512, you'll find boot.bin and sbl.bin.
boot.bin --> primary bootloader
sbl.bin --> secondary bootloader
I hope you don't mean what does a bootloader with your question.....
You'll have to try flashing different ODIN or Heimdall Stock builds. Unfortunately, it may or may not fix your problem. Make sure you have a USB Download Jig just in case because you'll probably get times where it looks like it won't turn on and its the only way to get it back up and running. If all else fails and your warranty is still intact, use it. These are the early signs of internal SD Card failure. If warranty is not an option, you should be able to use the external as your primary partition and lose the internal completely. Its what I'm doing currently on my i9000M with the infamous broken internal SD Card. My internal SD Card is gone completely but everything is running under my External SD Card perfectly.
Okay, so it's included within the three files + pit. That's okay, I thought there was more then four files after the extraction.. I am downloading JM8... Will tell you how I get on.

Could you perhaps guide me on how to do so, I also think my internal SD CARD is also "buggered"..
Thanks in advance..
Woah WOAH WOAH HAHAHA!... Its alive... slightly! It turns on with the galaxy S logo and does some sort of sound thing.. =/ then turns off! But wahay!... Thanks Umberto1978..
I did this by first flashing JM8 PDA with repartition off...
Then flashing JM1 PDA PHONE AND CSC WITH 512 PIT...
on restart this happened..
Sure. This is what I did on my i9000M. Internal SD Card is useless so everything is now running off my External 8 GB microSD.
Go to this page and grab Heimdall and JVT build:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196179
Heimdall: http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
JVT: http://www.multiupload.com/QMORULUWRQ
ODIN may work but I haven't tried it out myself and the packages above are made specifically for Heimdall. Set up Heimdall along with its specific drivers (included in Heimdall) to allow it to flash the phone.
- Make sure you have an external SD Card in your phone and make sure its formatted to FAT32.
- Flash the Heimdall JVT build with repartion checked using Heimdall
- Once it reboots, it'll try to format the SD Card but fail to do so and give you an error message. Ignore it and reboot the phone.
- It should now boot into Stock JVT firmware. If you go to your Storage under settings, you'll notice that Internal and External SD Card will be unavailable which is expected. You'll have 2 GB of internal storage for apps and whatever other things.
- You have two options here: 1) Continue using stock JVT; 2) Flash a custom ROM.
So let's say you want to flash a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod or MIUI. Fire up Heimdall again and go back into download mode. Flash the CF-Root for JVT kernel by Chainfire using Heimdall:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15188469&postcount=9
This will allows you to flash CWM files. You can now install Cyanogemod or whatever custom ROMs you like.
Switching the primary partitions:
Cyanogenmod has a setting where you can switch the primary partitions in Cyanogenmod settings.
Cyanogenmod Settings --> Application --> UNCHECK use internal storage --> Reboot. Your External SD Card will now be the primary partition.
For myself, I am currently running Galnet's MIUI ICS. It doesn't have the Cyanogenmod settings above. I instead use the vold.fstab trick to switch the two partitions. If you navigate to "system/etc" folder, you'll see a file called vold.fstab. Open it with Notepad++ or some other note editor. You'll see the following (this is only for Galnet's MIUI, other ROMs will have something similar. Just switch the partitions like below):
Code:
# internal sdcard
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard/external_sd auto [U]/devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.0/mmc_host/mmc0[/U]
# external sdcard
dev_mount emmc /mnt/sdcard 1 [U]/devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc2[/U]
Switch the two underlined around and push the vold.fstab back into system/etc/ and put the correct permissions. Your external card will now be your primary partition and your internal SD card (unavailable) is the external.
So why switch the partitions? You don't necessarily have to but if you want your phone storage to be neat, do it as it changes your sdcard mounts around, etc. You'll also get back USB mounting functions which you can't do with the internal storage being unavailable and the primary partition.

Yeah unfortunately, you have the dreaded Galaxy S bootloop. Internal SD Card is probably toast. You can test this by removing the External SD Card and trying to boot. It most likely won't get as far. What happened is that ODIN flashed Android to your external card and trying to boot off it.
I have tried to use heimdall, and once it had loaded and the phone rebooted I did get the error message, however after ignoring this, once I had rebooted the phone it goes back into the boot loop.?

Have you tried reformatting your external SD Card? Just format it to FAT32 and then try again. Also, first boot may take a few minutes. You can verify that its booting fine by using logcat if you have ADB installed on your computer.
Flash jm9 mate, not jm8. Seems to resurrect better. With odin. Pit 512 with Repartition.

I am at work but will give this a shot... I also found a lot of people resolved problem by using JM8 with repartition and 512 pit
then with JPM & pit 803 with no repartition ticked...
Use Odin 1.3... 1.8 wont allow you to tick and untick with a repart file...
Will post results tonight... its been two days and i have tried everything...
Well, I can say that I spent hours on hours trying to search for a solution with no luck,
The internal sd card of my Galaxy S GT-I9000 is corrupt.
I get E: format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 when im trying to format without sdcard inserted.
What I have managed to get after doing everything I can from my own knowlage and from the internet:
100% Working phone with ICS 4.0.3 only with 2 partitioned sd card(reiserfs and fat)
did everything in here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31017954
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdMhYYdMB08
also flashed multi-csc firmware with pit(JVU/JVZ) after format everything(except /boot) through CWM with no luck.
main goal:
100% Working phone WITHOUT SD CARD
I thought maybe someone could tell me if this could be solved within software itself or only FLASH IC replacement?
got linux and windows systems so guides with commands involved wont be a problem.
THANK YOU!

Hi,
Ive been trying to get this phone working for about 2 days straight now. Tried all kinds of flash methods and so on.
But as of now, im officially stuck, and i dont know what to do.
I have this SGS i9000 with almost certain a broken internal SD (not sure, this is what i have tried to fix by flashing different roms/bootloaders/pit files,U name it)
I'm now at a point that only download mode is available and when trying to acces any recovery (original or CWM) i get the nice brick screen(phone --- ! ---- pc picuture)
Any Help would be apreciated.
Sorry for my bad english, im from Holland.
I don't know the original firmware or anything, i got this phone with bootloop error from a friend.
Thank you for all your help...
[EDIT1]
I am able to enter the Original recovery now, but a lot of errors are on the screen:

when you get this (phone --- ! ---- pc picuture), you need to re-flash the correct kernel or correct ROM as its stuck in incomplete flashing.
when you get this cant mount /data your storage not prepared yet you may have mp3/junk file stuck in data and causing the issue, so remove Ext SD card, remove sim card before flashing dbdata.rfs file from here
IF that did not resolve it , flash a rescue kit from above link used for unbricking. i9000
Important
make sure your unit is i9000 and not a variant of i9000
charge your phone fully before flashing

Succesfully applied multi csc.
Is there a way to figure out what the correct rom should be? or is there like any 'universal' rom that would work on all i9000 phones?
I read your rescue page, and tried the one click jar file inside your resque kit and also via Odin but still i keep getting errors.
The original problem (when i first got the phone) is a couple of bootloops and eventually it would boot into android.
Whipe of data and cache would solve the problem but it got worse and eventually it resulted into a bootloop from which he booted into android after about an hour or so...
I though i had the right kernel/rom.. and so on...
I did flash a speedymod kernel which booted right into android and with sdcard function.
But it would give errors and bootloop and crash diverse apps (system apps)
I have rooted diverse types of phones before so i am not a complete noob in this area...
Any help on how to continue?
Thnx
[EDIT1]
After flashing dbdata i still keep the same error.
The rescue kit from ebase the download link of the pdf isn''t working.
Any help on that?
I will try all rescue kits available...
and let u know what it does(little hope but)

this would be the clue as to one of the problem you may be having, basically at some point the phone must have been formatted to ext 4, as such samsung Stock rom will not be able to use it .
The solution here would be to flash a speedmod kernel for 19000 ( look in My Android collections ( link below) under kernels and flash that to get CWM, untick Auto reboot in Odin before flashing after that get into CWM recovery and format system & Data or everything back to RFS using CWM universal lag fix menu.
you can also look at My android solutions (link below) for solving mmcblk0p2 problems

I am now on the speedmod kernel but when trying to revert to rfs i get the following errors:
Reboot into cwm recovery
go to advanced speedmod menu
do convert filesystems to RFS
cant mount dev block mmcblk0p1 or mmcblk0
no such file or directory
cant mount mnt sdcard
backup failed.
you may need more free space on int sd
aborting
In win7 in the disk module i can see a e and g drive but it says no media .. so im unable to do anything about it.
also on CMW recovery i can get into the mount USB storage menu, but the pc won''t show anything except the e and g drive with no media...

Basically this means your Internal SD card is corrupt , you can try ADB whilst in Recovery to see if you can pull anything from your internal SD card. Look in MY Directory (link Below) about ADB, if you are not familiar about ADB
or you can push a custom ROM into it to flash with CWM
The other option to get phone booting would be to use a two primary partitioned External SD card to act as the Internal SD card.

Ive tried a lot of stuff but adb won't recognise my phone...
I don't get an android device listed in my hardware devices list... only under usb devices it will say a composite usb device...
Even tried a other pc (which is fresh) but no luck either.. when i put my own phone on the same usb cable it recongises it straight away.
So no probs with usb cable/pc.
Any help? external SD-card option, not an option in this case...
Any other thoughts?
thnx for all the help!

Your SDK manager must have installed sources for your Android version to be able to run ADB and recognize the phone. Did you do it?

Hi at all, I've a problem with my samsung galaxy note n7000, I have the latest 4.1.2 original samsung touchwiz , I've only rooted it,
the problem is that the android os doesn't mount the internal sd card, and get me a notification that say "blank usb memory or not supported file system", I tried to reboot custom recovery(philz recovery) and wipe data and cache, format sd card but nothing works, can anyone help me????
Did you format it to fat32? In recovery did you try formating the external storage?

*bump
I'm facing the same problem right now. It occurred after I did a hard reset. In the best case scenario, this is just a partition table corruption, but in the worst, a physically damaged card.
On Linux, I have fixed partition tables with a nifty tool called gpart (not gparted). There is a similar utility available for Linux, Windows, Mac etc. called TestDisk. Unfortunately, these tools are not available on Android. However, there is something called aparted available on Play Store that supposedly fixes filesystems.
I have installed it, but it wants to install some browser addons too. I've tried to repair the filesystem that it shows as empty, but no luck so far. I will shortly check its online manual, but I hope we can get something like gpart on Android.

Hi, I have been able to get the Internal SDCard (/storage/sdcard0) mounted again, albeit with loss of data. Look at my recent post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48595569&postcount=24
and the one from which I got the hint
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35726016&postcount=6
The step by step procedure is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26285877&postcount=12
but if you have only one partition damaged, you could just check it with e2fsck and then, if necessary, recreate it with mkfs.exfat or the other method in the referred post.
EDIT: link to parted and other files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38598228&postcount=4

I don't know if you can recover your original data - I had tried formatting the partition, by mistake, to ext4 with mke2fs. You could avoid this, and see if you can back up your partition with dd before re-formatting it to fat32.
solved, I download latest frimware, and flash it throught odin and all are fixed
Hello,
I have got a samsung p1000 tablet from my friend, that it does not boot, there is no warranty for it, and he doesn't need this anymore. I googled what is its problem, and the internal sd was corrupt. I followed tutorials to open the tablet, got off the internal memory which stored the data and the cache partition, then put everything back. After many tries, reflashes, bricks, etc, I got to this solution: I flashed the stock t-mobile firmware with odin 3.07 (this version ignored fail of movinand.rfs and hidden.rfs, not like earlier versions, like 1.85), installed overcome kernel, went to recovery, edited the /system/etc/vold.fstab file and partitioned the sd card as it needed. I booted and it worked, the android system ran from the sd, and the sd's 4gb fat32 partition was used as "internal" sd. I did it by this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1463756& My partitions are:
1. Primary, fat32, ~5400mb (sdcard)
2. Primary, ext4, 2000mb (data, so applications' place)
3. Primary, fat32, 100mb (preload, or cache?)
OK. It's 2014, I cannot stick with gingerbread. I installed the official cm11 kitkat (http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=p1), but it had a problem, after searching i found it:
I can't use camera, cannot download anything and cannot open sdcard0 because: sdcard's fat32 partition is mounted as sdcard1. In KitKat, fstab file (fstab.p1) is in the root. I have to do one of these, but I cannot:
- unpack boot.img then edit fstab.p1 file, repack and reflash it, to use as sdcard0. simply modifying it does nothing, it changes itself back, and sometimes causes a bootloop.
- this solution, that I don't understand: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52931787&postcount=118
I'm pretty much confused, because it worked in gingerbread, but it had fstab in other folder, had an other structure of it, it was touchwiz, not cyanogenmod, etc.
Adb logcat and file manager both say: permission denied to sdcard0, ok, because it has been got out by me, but I don't need sdcard1, only sdcard0.
I would appreciate any help from you guys, telling me how to do one of these solutions, which would work and be the better for this case.
(i know this tab is old and obsolete, but it would be good for me for youtube, movies, xda, some games, just for home )
Same problem
I am having the same damn problem. I'm not a developer, and I'm using cygwin, but I do want to poke around in boot.img. How did you unpack it? I was getting an error involving magic android header or something. Also is there an fstab in the recovery? Should I flash that with heimdall, and push edited rom? Thanks for any help, and if you figure it out please post.

I wasn't able to unpack it in cm11 rom. It says the same, there is no magic android header.
I am able to do the following:
DOWNLOAD MODE (turn off, volume down + turn on)
RECOVERY MODE (turn off, volume up + turn on)
- Format 16g memory card like this (e.g. with miniTool Partition): | sdcard,primary,fat32,~5000mb | data,primary,ext4,~1800mb | preload,primary,fat32,~200mb |
(with bigger cards, obviously bigger sdcard and data partition)
- DO NOT format sd with inserted in tab, and mounted in recovery; it will make partitions INSIDE of mmcblk0p1 block, not 3 blocks, mmcblk0p1, 0p2 and 0p3. So, DO format like in laptop, with microSD>SD transformer
- Insert SD card to TAB
- Flash gt-p1000_mr.pit and GB_Stock_Safe.tar with odin 3.07 (the only one which can push hidden.rfs, or skipping it automatically, like ignoring it in heimdall)
- Reboot in recovery mode, see that it can't see int. memory
- Reboot to download mode, flash overcome kernel
- Reboot to recovery, connect to adb, and now you can "adb pull /system/etc/vold.fstab"
- The file pulled to the adb folder should be edited to this (got this from a tutorial):
Code:
# internal sdcard
{
ums_path = /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
asec = disable
discard = disable
format_option = -r 1558
}
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard 1 /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc1
# externel sdcard
{
ums_path = /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
asec = enable
}
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard/external_sd auto /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc2 /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc1
#end line ## keep this line
- Now type in adb: "adb push vold.fstab /system/etc/"
- To check out booting, type in adb: "adb logcat".
- Reboot your device.
- A female robot voice tells you not enough space on system partition, converting it, estimated time 2 mins, etc etc.
- After a while you should see many-many lines written in adb window, and see your tab booting.
- When turned off charging for 1st time, don't worry, it will convert something again, female voice will appear again. Never so again.
- Now you have your tab working camera, sdcard, apps, etc.
STOP HERE? IF YOU WANT A WORKING 2.3, CONTINUE IF YOU WANT A HALF-WORKING CM11.
2.3 is outdated, I tried to update to cm11
- Go to overcome recovery
- Recovery detects sdcard0 and sdcard1 normally.
- (I didn't do any wipes )
- Flash cm11.
- It will reboot to clockworkmod recovery.
- NOW FCKN recovery detects external sd partition 1 (your savior) as sdcard 1, FUUUUU!
- You have to flash the zip file again.
- Flash gapps. Because of "missing" (it's just mounted in the wrong place) sdcard partiton, some of them can not install.
- Now system boots, you can install apk-s. But even if you umount and mount the sd in the good place, camera and market sd-required apps won't work. So like fb, messenger, circle don't need them, so they work. BADLAND, Real Racing, won't, they need the sdcard mounted in place by the fstab file. You cannot download files in stock browser, neither in Dolphin, only in CM Browser.
Choose, you want to use an older, working os, or a half-working, but newer os, with more (cm features)
Maybe I will include the programs I used, when XDA allows me to place links in this post.
still trying...
Thanks for the info. Maybe if I knew what to do with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52931787&postcount=118 I could get somewhere. I'm still determined to get this to work properly. It worked in that old terenceng rom so there has to be a way...
