Hi all, I was hoping to upgrade my 2.1 android version on the gt-i9000. I had a very good look at the forum, but I couldn't find any good thread on how to upgrade to that version and the files needed. Can anybody suggest a good thread please? Also do you reckon ICS is a good choice? I am not an expert on this but I have managed to root and unlock the phone so I would like to get a better reliable android version for my phone
thanks

Hi all,
sorry for my noob question but i would like to know, as a first time flasher, what ROM i should flash?
I have a P1000 Australian tab, rooted but thats it.
I would like something that runs faster, smoother and with as few bugs as possible.
With so many options out there i was wondering if people could post there experiences with the different ROMS available through this forum to help me decide which one to try first.
I have some experience in jailbreaking (iphones) hacking the motorola Razor and a few other phones over the years.
Thanks all for your input.
I have a Aussie telatra tab. I'm using overcome, its the best rom at the moment. Give it a try
swyped from a galaxy far far away...
Thanks for the fast reply! just checked out the overcome video, looks great bout to give it a crack.
Please post in the proper section.
Thanks.

+1 on the proper section comment. This section needs a mod.
Any Euro ROM will work on Aussie shipped Tabs. I have an Aussie Optus Tab and use Roto JMIv2, love it.

I have a Galaxy s GT-I9000m using the bell network. I been stuck with android 2.3.3 for over a year now.
I have been doing research and am finding it difficult to find a good source of information.
Mainly looking for the latest and most stable version of gingerbread. Also want to get rid of bloatware.
If someone can point me in the right direction I would be extremely grateful
Thanks in advance.

Welcome!~ Let me tell you it'll get frustrating at first, but if you have patience and are willing to put in some time to learn things you will no doubt be amazed at what you can do.
I had a similar issue a while back and I started a thread, which blew up with information, so I suggest you look through there as it has useful tips from some really great members about what you're looking for. I see you're looking to upgrade from 2.3.3. The latest in my thread is version 2.3.6 and that one is great. Try that out first and when you're ready I suggest moving onto Cyanogenmod 7.1 as it's based on the latest Gingerbread build 2.3.7
Good luck! Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375971
this thread is useful i reckon. good luck.

Thanks,
Does my phone have to be unlocked? It if so the only way to unlock that I've seen is to use another sim card.
No, your phone does not need to be unlocked.
I'm currently running the JW1 (2.3.6) ROM that was released at the end of January with the Bell phone and modem files.
See post #9 in the thread pk1025 linked to.
It discusses and visually displays how to take pieces of different ROMs and install them on a Bell GT-i9000m phone.
It talks about installing JVT, but the same thing applies if you wish to install JW1 or the JVU value pack version discussed here.
Thanks alot the process is making alot more sense.
What's the most current stable version of 2.3.6. and where do I get it from?

Hey,you can flash kernel to have root via Odin for your PC. It is easy.
Then, I heard about Unlock Root app for PC which does rooting by two - three clicks via USB-debugging for 2.2-4.0.3 . (I didn't use it, I have pre rooted 4.0.4 )
Then you can just flash a rom with root,cwm,ext4-filesystem.
That is the way to taste Android 4.0.4 that is really awesome
Sorry, I can't paste links right now but I wish I helped you
A good start for you would be to flash the overcome ROM.
Here is a copy of the Installation Guide (with images)
Here is a link to the Overcome website
Simply follow the instructions and you'll be fine with a brilliant new rooted ROM.
If you want to go to ICS then I can recommend Cyanogenmod 9 - there are several ICS ROMs based on CM9 out there so I'll leave it to you to search them out; however my advice is start with Overcome to get a feel for the PC tools and CWM recovery.
Good luck

Yes, go to the development section, browse around the roms and find one that suits your likings and needs. Read carefully the installation instruction and flash it.
If you need something more specific then ask.
If it your fist time messing with custom roms maybe you would like to start with 2.3. Try out Gingerdx.
Can you provide me a guide for begginers?
Can anyone help my with my tab,
