Power button is about to death - HTC Incredible S

Hi, my device's power button is almost dead. I want to wake my phone by using volume rockers.
My phone is not rooted. Is there any application or method to do this?

Looks like a good link, but he's not rooted and this guide is for root access modification.
But I think that rooting would be the best solution to get what the OP is after.

Mine is half death, and hopefully not about to death.
Seriously though, if you're not going to claim warranty to get it fixed (I did) root it and get vol wake and sweep to wake/sleep. I've set mine to do both and I don't have to use the power button unless rebooting

ok. here the dumbest question: how can i root it?

Yeah my power button died 2 months ago. Root and install venom. It's the only Rom with both vol wake and vol sleep.
If somebody knows how I could make all roms have vol sleep that's be great lol.
Sent from my Incredible S using Tapatalk 2

Some custom ROMS have tweak, which allows you to wake by volume buttons

you'd better root your IS or replace a power butern

you can use Go locker

i tried CPR but its of no use .. its almost dead :silly:

I think nthknd means [vol-] + [power] - because [vol+] + [power] performs a softreset
(havn't tested the ICS-screenshot-feature yet - because I'm using Screenshot ER Lite since a long time - and I'm happy with it...)
My bad your very right volume down plus power key at the same time will give you a screen shot.. Sorry for the confusion... Hope that helps thanks bud for the correction I hate giving out incorrect information.

The Lite (free) version of the app works great. I have it running on boot and don't really see a reason to turn it off as it hardly drains any battery. I prefer the app instead of having to use the hardware buttons every time I want to do a screenshot, but that's mainly because I'm paranoid about the power/volume button getting used so much that they actually stop working

I'm using the free app with the widget to turn it on/off if needed (and then take a screenshot with the popup-menu and a delay of 15s).

Long press power button

I don't know if it's a problem or not but even if my screen off, when I long press on the power boutton (perhaps 6 or 8 seconds) my phone reboot. So sometimes, in my pocket, it reboots. It is normal? If yes, any way to change this feature? I'm rooted and I've rXtrem rom V3.0 on Stock Kernel.

read the title. It's the power button he's talking about, not the home button.
It doesn't depend on the ROM, it'll be like that even if you have no ROM installed.
I've changed for Pandoriam ROM and it's the same "problem". I've not see you was talking about the home button, it's the power button i'm talking about. Son anyone can make somethnig with a little flash for exemple?......

Software Buttons

A couple of days ago I asked in the Q&A forum if it was possible to disable your physical back home and menu buttons and enable the on screen buttons like on the nexus 4. A guy named: UncleRipper helped me by telling me how to do it, so I want to share it with you guys. But all props to UncleRipper! For an example of how it looks on my phone see the photo below.
So what we want to do is enable the on screen buttons, disable the physical buttons, and stop them from lighting up everytime you touch the screen. I know you can disable this in the settings if you're on lg's software, but I am running cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly.
So first enable the on screen buttons:
open a file manager with root ( Solid Explorer or Root Explorer), go to /system and open build.prop (backup it!!)
add this line at the end of the file build.prop:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
restart your phone.
Now you got the on screen buttons, you want to disable the physical buttons:
Use "button remapper" (search it on google cause isn't on play store) and assign "focus" to home, back and menu buttons.
The app is simple to use and the values to change are last in the list.
After the physical buttons are disabled you want to stop them from lighting up when you touch the sceen:
Prerequisites:
Root
SManager (play store)
SManager widget (play store)
Your phone
this script: https://www.dropbox.com/s/iz6t5eql0w...tkeyscript.zip
First install the app SManager and accept the SU request.
Use a root file browser and move the script from the SD Card your system/etc/init.d folder
Go into SManager and locate the 2 scripts. Click on them and tap the little star button in the top left to make them a favorite. And click the little SU icon while your at it! (optional: click also on run on boot the gear near "su" command)
Add the widget to your home screen, run the script and turn off the display and then turn it back on.
If the physical buttons wernt visible id do this. But i find LMT launcher works great for when a can be bothered doing hand gymnastics to push the back button.

Yep, if the physical buttons went off, it would be good. Could You make it working? ;D
The physical buttons are disabled and they don't light up anymore, so you can't really see them anymore unless you take a really hard look. But hey, it's your choice rather to use it or not! I'm just saying it's possible ;D

Open /system/usr/keylayout/touch_dev.kl and remove/comment three lines from the almost end of the file (those with VIRTUAL word). Works, at least on PAC 23.0/CM10.1, not sure if in stock rom will also work. Then use the script from OP to disable lights (I'll try to find simplier way to do it all).
And of course add this:
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
at the end of /system/build.prop
+1 thank you I got it all working now.

[Q] Back-light only working in Recovery Mode

I was using Viper Vivo ROM from sometime, it worked flawlessly. But yesterday my battery died out, after which I am not able to boot properly. It Vibrates when I power ON, but no back-light. So I tried to go in boot-loader (No Back-light), then I pressed Vol-DN then power and strangely the backlight came and I am able to use recovery (4EXT) properly. It seemed like software issue to me, so I tried wiping data and cache and installing different ROMs (Android Revolution HD 5.3 then Stock "vivo_signed_WWE_4.14.405.2_ICS_SENSE36_1.zip") but its the same issue.
Could any one please help me with this.

-_- there's a difference between cranking up the brightness and not being able to see anything at all on the screen (in other words, completely black screen as if the phone was off).
Just a question but do the key backlights work?? Like, a lot of the ROMs come with default vibration for the keys. If you do feel your phone vibrate, then it might be the screen display or recovery maybe??
Im assuming you can boot up past splashscreen...

I am not even able to see HTC logo, it just vibrates. And when I go to boot loader i.e Vol DN+Power (No Back light) and press volume down once then power button once then I get to recovery and the back light turns on.
Also KEY backlight works only in recovery nowhere else.
I guess this clears the issue which I am facing.
I tried at some repairing shops but even they don't have any clue.
Any other suggestions are appreciated.
