I am told that there is a Keyboard/Screen/Trackpad dock for the Droid 3, if you don't mind that its keyboard shares its regular Qwerty keys with Chinease simbols besides our regular alphabet.
At least that whats my provider of tech stuff has told me. Does anyone know about it? (just to make sure that he doesn't charge me too much for it).
Thanks a million.
PS: I hope someone can provide me with more info before him; if not (and it was really true), I will try to post about it.
I think he is full of beans, I have never seen or heard of one, but this does not mean it doesn't exist or that there isn't one.
Someone could make an adapter cable that would retrofit the D3 into the Atrix dock if they were up to the task, but I haven't heard of a lapdock for the D3. Could you get a picture? You might have found something valuable!
Bionic Lapdock?
The HDMI and USB connectors on the Bionic appear to have the same positioning as the Droid 3. I would be curious to see if the Bionic's lapdock would work with the D3.
I'll try the Bionic dock as soon as possible.
Nope, there is no Webtop software on the D3. Nor is there 1gb of ram like there is on the Bionic, Atrix, Photon.... Even if it plugs in the D3 won't know how to interact with it.
You can however use HDMI mirroring, but the Droid 3 can't talk to a keyboard or mouse.
Now he changed the story...
Now this person says its an adaptor to the current lapdock, and the picture he saw has a Droid 3 conected using the adaptor.
While this might just mean Screen Mirroring instead of a parallel firefox, the keyboard indeed might not work.
At first I always suspected about the mirroring, but the keyboard could always has worked if it used the bluetooth as a method of comunicating if the USB didn't allowed out otherwise.
While I have tried more than one keyboard, and all seemed to work nicely, like the Palm Bluetooth Keyboard, even the Apple Wireless Keyboard, I am not sure if a mouse would work as well.
If it was true indeed about an adaptor, and it works, I will keep you posted.
By the way, what if, and this it a BIG if, the lapdock contains all the firefox IN it, and it just uses the disk/SD memory in the phone? wouldn't that make it more prone to be compatible? Thats just a thought...
According to this picture, you can flip the connectors around on the Atrix or Bionic Lapdock:

Hmmmm......
I can confirm the Motorola Lapdock 100 works just fine with the Droid 3. It lacks Webtop and some things are minor annoyances (like Swype pops out whenever you click a text box. Either click esc to make it go away or pull out the phone's keyboard a hair) In fact I'm typing this response from my Lapdock. The USB keyboard and mouse work just fine (I think that's built into Android) and my wireless mouse even works when I plug the dongle into the USB replicator on the back. I think the replicator also will accept a thumb drive or a keyboard.
Hello.
Can you make some movies from Droid 3 with Lapdock?
How is screen resolution in this combination? 960x540 or Lapdock native?
Thanks in advance and I am sorry for my bad English.

Is this setup still working? I ask because I read a post on the Motorola forum where a guy's D3/Lapdock 100 worked as you describe until he took a call. Once the call was over, it went back to simple HDMI mirror, with no keyboard/mouse functionality, even after reboots, etc.
I picked one of these up for $59 and free shipping a few days ago, but it hasn't shipped yet:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190662411549
If the connectors need to be swapped around, I'll do it. It would be nice if it was a touchscreen, but I'm not going to complain too much. Will report back here the results and pictures if needed.
I got one of the Bionic docks in the $59 deal as well. It arrived today and the connectors do need to be flipped around. While the lapdock's native resolution is 1366x768, the Droid 3 will only output at 960x540. I'm hoping to use it with an RDP app, but none of the RDP apps work well with it.
Let me know if there are any questions on the functionality.

Do the keyboard and mouse work? I have a Atrix 4G one that I got from ebay for $59 sitting new in the box.

Why would the D3 only have an out put of 960x540? Can't it produce 1080p out on that HDMI connector?

It outputs at 1080p, or at least my TV reports it as that but it looks like its just an upconverted 950x540 picture, since its duplicating the phone's screen. What would be nice is an option to have HDMI only (the phone screen is off) so it could actually produce a real 1920x1080 display, the hardware should be capable.
I pretty sure the D3 only outputs above 960x540 when you are playing a video only. I wonder if we can mod the D3 so it can always output to 1080p.
OK, so my $59 Atrix Lapdock showed up a few minutes ago. I opened up the carrier dock and flipped around the connectors. The dock needs to be dremelled a little bit, but once it's plugged in, the video is mirrored and the touchpad and keyboard function normally. It's just like an Android powered laptop at this point, with a 3G connection. Need to dig around for the webtop/lapdock app now and see if that's something I should care about. The resolution looks to be exactly the same as the phone, for now. I'm thinking a little hack could get the resolution upped.
Stay tuned.

Thanks, the Motorola Gingerbread webtop app hasn't been ported because of RAM limitations. The Ubuntu on Android project is claiming 512MB as a minimum and will be released open source eventually so their is hope of running that someday if someone can port it. It requires no kernel modifications and runs on top of Android so it should be possible.
I will probably mod my Atrix 4G lapdock at some point.

That's kind of what I was seeing, too. There appears to be other webtop-ish like apps on the market that do things when you plug them into HDMI. Researching them now.
But yeah, the Ubuntu on Android looks to be badass!
I was wondering if anyone tested it on the droid 3 I need to know if it works properly

I tried to fit my droid 3 into my friend's atrix keyboard, but it didn't fit. The ports are backwards so the phone would be flipped around from what the atrix would be. BUT!!!
With some modifications to the dock area I think it could be done, it literally was a few MM of extra plastic that was getting in the way. A dremel tool would probably do the trick.
If you are talking about the Motorola wireless bluetooth keyboard it will work on the Droid 3 according to Motorola's website:
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/U...-Wireless-Keyboard-US-EN.productCompatibility
Not sure if that means this keyboard will work on all Android devices or if Motorola includes software drivers on its phones amongst the bloat.

Anyone using a bluetooth keyboard with the Droid 3?
I use the Xoom but on my wife's d3 all the time.

I use an Atrix keyboard
There is another thread on this topic going as well. here my most resent post:
I received my Atrix dock and really like it so far. I had to do quite a bit of trimming on the plastic dock to make the D3 sit properly and make a reliable connection. It works well and I really like it. Played with it for about a day now, Netflix is nice on bigger screen, texting is good, Angry Birds is good. I also like that it charges the phone battery.
All in all it took about an hour of plastic trimming and test fitting. I added one item as peace of mind for myself. Once the phone is docked I have a black Velcro cable tie a wrap around the phone and dock connector so I can move and not be to worried about the phone falling or the connectors being subjected to more stress than needed.
Wrong thread, this is about a bluetooth keyboard not the lapdock. There is a separate thread talking about the lapdock.
No problem
The second post references the lapdock so the thread is kind of mixed it would seem.
Oh, I didn't see that one post, just wanted to let you know we have a thread that talks a lot about the lapdock.
Using ICS 232 leak I am able to utilize Webtop 3.0 nicely. I have encountered an issue with the HDMI out of my phone being a fixed volume. If I change the audio routing from HDMI to phone speaker I am able to change the volume on the phone. Every time I put it in the Lapdock I must change the routing manually to Phone Speaker. I am trying to find out if anyone else has had this issue.
I assume if I were to hook up to another device besides the Bionic Lapdock I would control the volume from the other device but the Lapdock even has nice fancy function keys for this purpose. Should you have installed ICS Leak 232, have a Bionic Lapdock and a Bionic (goes without saying) I would appreciate you seeing if you see the same issue. Failing that I would be curious if any other Lapdock model exhibits the behavior.
Thanks a bunch!
<rant> The one thing that kind of sticks in my craw is not that I am beta testing for Motorola and VZW. It is the fact that VZW and Moto want to tell you that you voided your warranty because you used the software that they intentionally leaked. How many leaked copies of Windows betas do you really see? Certainly not 4 different releases in less than 6 weeks. These companies are smart. I don't mind testing stuff, just don't tell me that their software leaks void their hardware warranty. </rant>
I'm with you. I've had broken audio control since moving to Webtop 3.0 on ICS leaks. I've searched the forums (including the RAZR and Atrix forums) to see if there had been problems on other devices and I only found one proposed way to fix it- turn off the audio effects when in webtop. It didn't work for me though. This might be something that just gets fixed along the way to a stable build. I've also had the same thought (that you mentioned also) that it could just be a problem on the "Bionic Lapdock" and not the newer models. Hopefully we get some answers soon?
I'm on the .232 leak and the volume keys work just fine on my Lapdock 500. Works with audio effects turned on or off. Wonder what's different?
[edit] Just noticed you are both using the Bionic Lapdock rather than the 500 -- that must be it. Hopefully they fix it in a future build.
I'm going to give the audio effects controls a try a little later. I could simply use external speakers with the headphone jack as I have an audio cable to use with my stereo.
I'm just frustrated because I was honest with VZW about what I had done with my phone and now it is out of warranty. No need to wield empty threats about another vendor, it's about the network, but their business practices leave something to be desired.

Now I know why my Lapdock was only $50.
Crippled hardware because they don't wanna spend the time or effort to develop the drivers properly. I do have to say that the webtop 3.0 does run very nice.
I never ran the earlier versions of webtop I don't know the difference.

Honestly I plug my radio in most of the time because of how awful the speakers sound in the lapdock but it would be nice to use the device properly.

i was wondering if anyone have att laptop dock for atrix 4g( its cheaper to buy compared to lapdock 100 or 500) and if hdmi mirroring works with atrix hd!! i know atrix HD doesnt support webtop but hdmi mirroring on a 11 inch screen will be nice... it can serve as a netbook for me while i am at coffee house or other local areas!! any info would be nice!!
The port configuration on the Atrix HD is slightly different than the port configuration on the Atrix 4G. So the only way to make the Atrix 4G lapdock work with the HD is with adapter cables to extend the ports enough to connect them properly.
I have tested and verified that the Atrix HD does do HDMI mirroring on the lapdock 500 so I would assume it would work on the 100 as well. For pictures: http://wiki.jkulow.com/index.php/Motorola_Atrix_HD
I bought the original Lapdock for my Atrix 4g. When I upgraded to the Atrix 2 I modified the dock on the lapdock to accomodate it and it worked well.
I now have the Atrix HD and dispite it looking like it's doing a handstand it works well in the dock. I did not have to motify the dock for it to fit as the port layout is the same as the Atrix 2 but on the top as apposed to the side.
Hope that helps
Thanks for the input guys!!!

How did you modify the lapdock? I noticed it is around 60 bucks on Amazon, so if it is an easy modification i might consider ordering one.
Thanks

I bought the wrong dock for my phone (looks like its for the original Atrix)
I ripped it apart and got this:
i48.tinypic -dot- com/fjm2cl.jpg
The HDMI line doesn't even hook to the board, really all the dock does is act as a USB hub.
I'm looking for a way to do this without ripping apart a dock. I found something that I think would work, but it looks like it's only in Japan / China : global dot rakuten dot com/en/store/all-kimuraya-jimbocho/item/smkr4953103908529/
... FORTH try. This board has more security than my bank account.
Get the HD Dock Station for the RAZR (89526N). It has three USB ports on it and it works out perfectly with the Atrix HD including USB.

Hope your right, I looked all over for an Atrix HD dock. Not that the gutted one won't work, but it's not the prettiest solution.

Yes, I use mine daily. I saw a post on AtrixForums, com that someone tried the cheaper RAZR dock (89527N) that doesn't have USB ports and doesn't include an HDMI cable (essentially the same as the Atrix HD dock). After seeing that and noting that the Atrix 4G dock's seemed to activate dock mode on the Atrix HD, I figured it was worth a shot. Since the Atrix HD and the RAZR are the same form factor (other than the cropped corners on the RAZR), I figured it was worth a try. I just ordered a second one yesterday.
