damn i just watched the video for the ubuntu mobile platform and it does look really nice.
i just dont think i can sacrifice all my android apps, if there was some way to use android apps on ubuntu this could be a winner.
until then, i think it will just be another windows phone and wont really take off.

Started porting?
Im also eager to hear about the progress.
Today is the day when Ubuntu releases Porting Guide
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
Hope someone will port it to INC S, as I am not ready yet to go for Nexus, but want to get a look on Ubuntu Touch
I think it is really not necessary to port it yet to the IncS. I've tested it and it's like nothing is working at all. You just see what it will all look like later but it's mostly just images how the app could look like.
It's just everything in reeeeaaally early stage, so the preview is really just to give you a liiiittle look into how it will probably be when it's done. And besides the fact, that almost nothing works it's also laggy as hell. So it's just too early to make sense to port it...

no, on a friend's Nexus 7, but I'm pretty sure it's the same stuff working...
Good, that it's easy to port, I'm just saying it's not worth it atm, so better wait for a later version and it will be more fun to use

The only similar things are CPU and screen resolution... good luck with that.
This gives me a little hope for having 2.2 with Sense
The fact that HTC Bee is CDMA doesnt make any difference?
Yes cant wait for 2.2 with Sense ain't nothing better than sense. Fingers X

i got an old tattoo in my drawer, so im still visiting here sometimes
As you might notice, i ported SenseUI to a very different hardware platform, and i managed to get most of the new SenseFroyo running too on it, without kernel or new drivers .. and this was on a motorola milestone.
Im know, that porting a CDMA is just a matter of the libril drivers, as i did exactly the same for motorola droid(CDMA) to a milestone(GSM) , baseband was the least of the problems here. of course native linux drivers on lowlevel is very different, but android framework use exactly the same, as framework by default support both CDMA and GSM.
you want to port a HTC model to another HTC driven model, where the framework is actually created by the same manufactor and they work with pretty much same goals on different hardware platforms.
If i was trying to port htc bee to tattoo, i would only need hardware drivers, with default egl libs as you got no hw acc.. and you would have it running quite easily.
if just HTC is behind both models not using hardware accelerated graphics, i wouldnt second guess whether its possible, but more when it was done.
as long as graphics are included for the very low resolution on tattoo, it should be easier to port it.
but ok, im really no expert on htc models, but Desire and ACE ports i looked at, both didnt give me too much trouble except for the expected Bluetooth solution HTC uses with broadcom drivers, which motorola did not work with so easily :-(
anyways just my input on porting...

whats the problem with having CPU and resolution in place?
having CPU , is very important for the porting to take place, without recompiling.
so its not a matter of luck!
lastly, please do note my sig, i got SenseUI on Milestone, would you say "good luck", if i did not advertise its existence?
I know this for us is free, and we can not complain at all, but I would like to know if someone is going to work on this ROM ... it would be wonderful! I think this is an important goal (aside from the camera and radio) and some developers you could collaborate and make SenseFroYo see the light ... we would be eternally grateful! For my part, I don't have much knowledge developing, but could help in anything else if you like ...
many thanks to all who make possible XDA

I dunno.. doubt it would be slower than Froyo on an SD card.
I made a zombie out of the honeycomb preview and one of the nook kernels.
Touch input doesn't work, no hardware acceleration etc.
Well then get to work dblue.....

I love it (and thanks for trying exactly what i was thinking of)! Sure, it isn't fully working, but it provides a TON of hope that with some work, Honeycomb can be made to work.
Once the source code is on AOSP then getting working ROMs for other platforms should be much easier. I think one of the problems we might see is driver support since the underlying kernel for Honeycomb might be different.
It does indeed run very slow so far.
Touchscreen is working now. I'll try to get the graphics acceleration running over the weekend that should help with performance.
(and I think it's stupid that I can't post or reply in the development forum without having more than 10 posts.)

It is an effort to keep people from finding out about XDA on yahoo or something and then coming here and going into the dev section saying make it work for me...NOW!!
Which sadly happens a great deal. Seen it many times in my years around here.
I'm sure that you will appreciate it when you have less of that to deal with when you hit another few posts and can start your first thread in the dev section.
You obviously have something to contribute so just post replies to a few posts in the general section here and you will be on your way.
Looking forward to the work you have started!!

Android isn't going to magically appear on your phone. It's going to take some time reading, and researching for Android to appear on your phone. There are literally hundreds of tutorials out there showing you how to install. Why not do a little leg work, and research for your answer?
I have an idea... Why don't you try installing them, and finding out for yourself which is the best. What I think is the best, you might think is the worst. There is no right answer. Plus, you can look at the previous fifty, "which rom is best" threads and get the same answer as you're getting here.
I second Hyperdroid GBX.
I've been using it since v3. Smooth fast and stable.
Everything works that I use.
Different roms have different quirks that you have to sort thru.
You just need to find the one that works for you.
The MIUI roms are also cool.

I spent some time indeed when moving first from original stock rom towards other WM builds, to find that android has much more to offer. You will have to take some tome to read...
Thereare lots of webpages outside this forum that show a nice overview of all android rom updates, and best of all, a link to the XDA HTC HD2 Android forum threads! Just Google "overview different Android Roms"...
Good luck and make the best choice!
I personally favour the builds of Rafpigna: everything called RAFDROID.
I think that it will be good to have some vote chart where every one can vote which version he uses.
Hyperdroid GBX... Hands down the best version. With cLK bootloader, it makes my WinMo phone feel pure android.
The Ultimate Droid 3.1.1 v2 the best rom i have ever test , good battery , super speed ,no bugs until now , try it and you will rememper me

ANYTHING from or with "RAFPIGNA".
His roms SD & NAND have been the best for me!

You can allways try a NAND version & go back to Win =)
Im using the darkstone 2.2 desire sense RAM build. Its pretty awesome. I decided on an sd build cause Im a novice and was slightly scared to.take the fill plunge. But its amazing, faster than the desire hd I used to have. A few little things missing but nothing I care about.

Install CWM for your hd2. You can install a nand build back it up,and flash another. It takes about 15 min per flash"you dont even need a computer".It takes a min to get the hang of it, If your not using CWM try it , titanium backup is nice also,"free in market". Back up your apps and copy file to your computer so its safe and sound. This phone is capable of alot. so get ready. Happy Flashing!

Hi all, i know this is a far fetched qustion but i am hoping this is possible or hackable at least is there anyway for me to boot any android os into a laptop g.b h.c or ics that would be amazing..??!!!
Yes its possible. I didnt pay much attention to it but Asus posted something about it on facebook a few weeks back. They had a working version of Android on certain laptop models that people could try out but it was limited to few models. I think you had to make a partition or make a boot disk/usb to do so though. ill try n google for it.
Edit: Found this - http://www.android-x86.org/download Only works for some laptops/netbooks though
yeah i found this yesterday i have a amd and gigabyte m.b. and not one worked almost got it but failed!! thanks man!!!
you could also install and run ICS in virtual box. Works like a charm.

i could never get it to work dude i guess i just don't have the right version or something i am not sure what one i need.. would like a netbook with ics on it
Saw a Video of The Razr with ICS using webtop on youtube. It seems smoother and it looks alot like ics now. I guess u can always wait until Bionic gets ics and u find a cheap lapdock o.o
there's always Android virtual emulator SDK if you don't mind the speed lol
What type of settings should be used when setting up VirtualBox for Android?
Also, there's many different downloads available of the Android ISO, they seem to be designed for different chipsets... can VirtualBox accomodate all of them?
For example, for the 4.0 RC1 there's one for AMD Brazos, one for ASUS Laptops, ASUS Eee PCs, etcetera.
This may not be the right place to ask all these questions... but if the answer is simple it'd be appreciated!
I don't know if anyone has found this one yet, but I know that I will give my Ubuntu a nice overhaul look.

I am very happy with my SGM and with all the options available here and the great community around this device.
But as always, I'm looking ahead to the next Galaxy phone I will buy in a near future. Galaxy W caught my attention: is a very good device, 1,4 GHz, 512 MB, excellent display...!
But I got worried when I looked at that phone's topic here on XDA... They have nothing!!!!
They don't even have a CM7 port....
So I started to wonder: where squadzone, mebitek, parasmi, maclaw, and others great developers we have here will go from here?!?! We have golden devs here, guys! And I'm very worried about my future with custom ROMs on future devices....
That will depend on what device they will buy in the near future.. since they are still enjoying developing roms for our device, just enjoy every tiny bit of it..

And I'm very worried about my future with custom ROMs on future devices....

just ensure that the device you will buy in future must be international version then there will be no shortage of devs
As far as I know, Galaxy W is a global version. I understand that it is a very "young" phone and I hope, at the time I bought one, it is more mature
Anyone knows where tj_style is developing?? For which device (if he is still developing)??
just pm him and ask
