I have been trying to flash a new ROM, i have tried at least three different ones, but I am unable to complete the installation. The rom and Gapps are flashed OK, but on first start up the "setup" wizard crashes, irrespective of which ROM i am using, however I can install the ROM on it's own without the GAPPS. Any Ideas?
You did do data, cache, dalvik, preload wipes?
What are gapps?never heard of them!
How do you flash roms?and wich ones have you tryed?

Some roms are not compatible with the latest version of gapps. So try flashing and older version.

Gapps are Google proprietary apps like Google play, talk etc. These does not come with cm roms so they have to be flashed separately

I have been trying the new CM10.1 Roms from SlimRom, Asylum and TeamPassion. The instructions to flash are included on the relevant Post and if you search these forums there are several good posts showing how this is done.
Gapps are zipped files of Google Apps which need to be flashed after the CM rom as the CM Roms do not contain the Google Apps

If you're using the 12-12-12 JB GAPPS, make sure you're on a 4.2.1 ROM like CM 10.1. If you're on 4.1.2, flash the next oldest ZIP from www.goo.im/gapps.

Sorted
Thanks for the responses, all seems to be sorted now, not sure how though !!
Will have to see what happens next time i change ROM and need to install GAPPS
As stated before gapps are the google apps that you flash seperatly from the rom because they are propietary software/ non opensource that cant be included in roms. The gapps are the apps in android such as the play store.

I flashed the 05/10/2012 build of CM10 by Jellaxy. After that I flashed V6 SuperCharger, A2SDX and SWAP from Jellaxy performance thread. After that I installed ChainFire 3D.
Everything was working fine until I tried to install the CF3D drivers...after the installation, my phone went on to reboot but it got stuck at the splash image(?) [the one that comes up before the CM10 bootanimation]. I left it for about 10 minutes with no change.
PS: if its any help, I deleted Trebuchet and am using Nova Launcher.
Please help, I forgot to make a nandroid backup :crying:
PS: I made a nand backup after installing the drivers. If I decide to re-flash the rom, can I at least use the advanced restore feauture to restore sd-ext? What should I NOT restore in order to prevent the said driver from messing up my phone?
Help appreciated
Don't restore system, try restoring data and sd-ext only... it might work. Otherwise, hope you got a titanium backup ready.
thnx for your help:laugh:

Lol!!! Check the supported devices for CF3D on play store pal. What do you think they run ? It doesn't work for our ace's ICS/JB roms because they're so co-operative with different scripts & so much bug-free that the CF3D driver is pleased enough to not to work

I'm afraid restoring mightn't help well. You should have had a good backup before ! I know you might have tried but just asking, did you try reflashing the rom ? And if not, is there any important data that you need to have & that is what is preventing you from doing so ?

Beta 3 is out now. Its pretty stable, its my daily-use rom!
If your sd card has ext4 partition then you can go for the beta 3 sd-card edition. That one has init.d scripts enabled.

The Rom doesn't have built in gapps. It's clearly posted by the Dev. You have to flash gapps after flashing the Rom.

Try clearing the data of Google Play app in settings > apps then re-boot.
If it didn't fix the problem, you may have to re-flash the Rom with full wipe + format /system.

If it's a 4.2.2 rom, make sure youre flashing the 4.2.2 gapps, flashing older ones would cause problems.

If it does not work the first time you may need to do a factory reset first.
All gapps versions need to be installed through cwm recovery tho.

Thats because most roms work better imo after a clean install, backup and restore your apps and its data with TB and it only takes about 5 minutes to restore

"better"? how? i dirty flash just about everything, no issues here, ever. the only issue that i see it being is the gapps package, and that occasionally happens. i did the gapps testing for banks when he started making gapps again. compilation errors do occur on occasion.
even though i do understand what you are trying to say, in reality thete is no " better", theres a done and a not done
