redownload your rom and gapps first of all. now what rom are you trying to flash dirty over what rom? to me it sounds like your gapps arent getting flashed.

I'm only dirty flashing updates to whatever current ROM I'm using but it's happened with Carbon and just recently Candy5.
.. Using Banks dynamic gapps from 5-27 btw

Makes sense. Just remembered it also happened when updating Pure Nexus as well. Odd it's only happening with the dirty flash and not clean installs tho

Thats because most roms work better imo after a clean install, backup and restore your apps and its data with TB and it only takes about 5 minutes to restore

That's the way I used to do it.. a few phones ago, but I've never really had a problem until now with the dirty flash. I'll try a different gapps package and if that fails TB.. I actually used it recently just because of this issue.
Appreciate the help

"better"? how? i dirty flash just about everything, no issues here, ever. the only issue that i see it being is the gapps package, and that occasionally happens. i did the gapps testing for banks when he started making gapps again. compilation errors do occur on occasion.
even though i do understand what you are trying to say, in reality thete is no " better", theres a done and a not done

CM RC1-RC2

Hey guys,
I have a nexus one currently running cm7 rc1.
I heard that rc2 came out.
Is there anyway that I could upgrade to rc2 without loosing anything that I currently have on rc1?
What do I do? Could I use rom manager?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Just flash it over but do a backup first just in case.
Yes, just use ROM Manager to flash to RC2, just don't do a factory reset / wipe and all your settings and apps will carry over.
Depending on what kid of user you are, you may also want to look at Titanium Backup, its a pretty amazing tool. It has a slight learning curve but it really lets you take control of what you want to carry over from one build to the next, specially when you are going between different rom products that require a complete wipe
Soooo, all I have to do is to download the rom and gapps, and only do a backup- no wipe. After I do that will I have the same layout as rc1 but it will be rc2?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yes, but be careful, flashing can be habit forming and RC's are a gateway drug. You'll be a crackflasher in no time.

Should we wipe to move from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
You shouldn't need to wipe whenever you move minor versions, but it doesn't always work perfectly, and sometimes you end up needing to wipe anyway. Always nandroid, just in case something ends up going wrong on the new install.

v4.1.2 JB ROM's Issues

Hi Folks,
I have flashed kallt_kaffe's rom located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28871951&postcount=1
Everything worked except these:
I can't see my galaxy tab anymore on 'my computer' when I connect it via usb. Also Kies can't recognize the tablet.
I have flashed gapps however not everything installed along with it. Google Maps is missing for example and when I try to do a voice call through Gtalk, it shuts down immediately.
What would you suggest?
Just found the solution to the first issue: Enabled MTP device via storage settings.
However looks like Gapps does not install properly; Google Maps is missing and voice/video calls in Gtalk won't work
Re-download gapps and re-flash it. It may be a bad download.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I did it like 5 times and still won't work.
Also checked the files if they are in place through ES file explorer and they indeed were.
Tried to install some of them and got 'install failed' error...

Uninstall gtalk and then reinstall. Get maps and gtalk from the store. That'll probably solve your problem.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
More importantly, I wouldn't commit to that particular ROM, as the developer abandoned it without warning almost two months ago.
I did it uninstall and then reinstall and it still did not work, so frustrating.
Very strangely, when I accessed the Maps through the store app, it told me that it was not available in my country??
and later I was able to install it through the browser.
Plus when I chose 'all the apps from Google', I could see only the one third of all their apps.
I can't figure this out... only for this I could go back to stock ICS.

Thanks for the suggestion. I found the solution to the Gapps issue, just replaced the Gtalk from an old Gapps package and it worked like a charm.

Cannot Install Gapps

I have been trying to flash a new ROM, i have tried at least three different ones, but I am unable to complete the installation. The rom and Gapps are flashed OK, but on first start up the "setup" wizard crashes, irrespective of which ROM i am using, however I can install the ROM on it's own without the GAPPS. Any Ideas?

Gapps are Google proprietary apps like Google play, talk etc. These does not come with cm roms so they have to be flashed separately

I have been trying the new CM10.1 Roms from SlimRom, Asylum and TeamPassion. The instructions to flash are included on the relevant Post and if you search these forums there are several good posts showing how this is done.
Gapps are zipped files of Google Apps which need to be flashed after the CM rom as the CM Roms do not contain the Google Apps

If you're using the 12-12-12 JB GAPPS, make sure you're on a 4.2.1 ROM like CM 10.1. If you're on 4.1.2, flash the next oldest ZIP from www.goo.im/gapps.

As stated before gapps are the google apps that you flash seperatly from the rom because they are propietary software/ non opensource that cant be included in roms. The gapps are the apps in android such as the play store.

fcs after update from 20130802 to 0817
Hi,
was on vacation and could not follow the threads, just flashed the new nightly 20130817 (coming from 20130802), realized no google sync and fcs so I figured that I needed the new gapps and flashed it. Works better now, but I still have issues when running chrome or ROM Manager:
"Chrome has stopped working" (same with Rom Manager).
Deleted the apps cache, but it did not help, anything that I´m missing?
Thanks for advice!

I had the same issue. Forgot to flash gapps, then did it, then still had FCs on a number of my Google apps. I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling the offending apps from the play store. So there's always that option.

For the next time, just dirty-flash the same ROM and the gapps right after. That did it for me recently.

[Q] AOIP 8/3, 8/10, and now 6/3 reboots during app uninstall and data toggle

Hi all,
I've been using AOIP on my Exhibit since June... and have loved it, but I've recently had some reboot/crash problems.
Upon uninstalling an app or toggling cellular data off (and only off... turning it on has no effect and if the wifi turns data off I still see the same effect), the phone crashes and reboots immediately. There may be a couple more causes, but I haven't pin pointed them.
This had first occurred when I installed the 8/3 release without a full wipe. I performed a full wipe, flashed 8/3, and still experienced heavy crashing. I reverted to the 6/3 release and didn't have problems. I tried the same sequence with the same results with the 8/10 release a couple of weeks ago. I've again reverted to 6/3 without problems...
Then this morning, I noticed that my wallpaper had been reset over night (suggesting a crash) and now the phone crashes under the same scenarios mentioned above.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated - I've enjoyed the ROM and hope this has been addressed with other folks and has yielded a simple solution...although I haven't seen this problem in any forums.

First, only wipe cache partition + flash the new ROM. Then, once I saw some crashing, wipe data/factor reset + wipe cache partition + flash new ROM.

If you've been here long enough you'll know that some of our phones work well with OC kernels and since don't. As suggested, I recommend flashing the stock kernel (white screen) and see if that solves your problem. If it does good, if not try a different thing. Make a nandroid first.

Then try another rom and see if it does the same thing. If not, I say backup your external SD card to your computer then wipe everything including your SD card and start fresh and see if that helps.

I supposed I'll stick with this ROM and try out AOIP again if another version is released. Thanks for the help - try to keep me posted if this problem turns out to be repeatable and addressable...
