Hi,
Im using Nexus 7 right now. Its a pretty device (although Ill probably sell it, its too little, Im looking for something bigger). In case of 10" tablet, I would probably stick to the landscape position for all the time, maybe except when reading. But here, Im tempted to use both vertical and horizontal positions. Trouble is when it comes to launcher. I hoped at least the stock launcher would be "rotation ready" but it is not - when I put some widget in when vertical, it gets crushed in horizontal.
My question - is there a launcher capable of keeping different icon/widget positions according to the position of the tablet? Apex for example has many options to set, but that is not this case ...
I don't have any problem with Nova rotating widgets.

Huh, not doing that here. I'm running PA2.99 in tablet mode. Might have something to do with the display difference.

Not sure what PA2.99 is but its clearly caused by the display properties. If only there was some launcher with more settings for different positions ...

You can resize the widgets dude. Or play with home screen grid size. You have to play with it to make it look and feel the way ya want. I find the process rather fun actually. Oh yea I'm talking about nova launcher btw
Personally, I'm gonna vote for apex. Smooth & stable, with plenty of customization.

Which would you prefer and why? I like adw's robust options but it seems that launcherpro is more stable. Could be a placebo though. What do u guys think?
i use AWD
(10 char)
I have both installed on my Froyo Nexus and I'm constantly going back and forth between the two. It's like a personal war between the 2 devs/teams. Its pushing both of them hard and its awesome.
I finally made my choice today and went with ADW because of the number of rows and columns I can make as well as edit the widgets to my liking. I use 5 x 6 and its pretty nice I think.
Thing I miss the most from LP is the 3d launcher and the new dock.
Both of them seem stable for everyday use for me.
But once ADW added the custom widget sizing thing, I knew ADW was the winner for me. I'll still keep LauncherPro and follow its progress but right now, its ADW.
I have 7 screens but here are the middle 3.

The top 86 is my current weather.
The 28% and 30 is one of them didn't update as fast as the other.
The 29.0c/84.2f is the battery temp.
Hope that clears it up.
I use LP. It already has scrollable lower row (with shortcuts), rows/columns change in Launcher mode, and 3D app drawer.

I have both installed and have gone between them countless times but this last week I've been leaning towards LP. It's not a placebo, Launcher pro isn't quite as customizable as ADW [yet] but updates are coming twice a week and it's gets better every time.
LP - I think a great app does not need thousands of options. While they are nice, lp just seems to work how I want and requires very little from me. I tried adw many times, but always go back.
I wish it would allow you to change the launcher background color and transparency though, like adw.
I was not a fan of changing my desktop from 4x4... Everything seemed weird at 5x5 for me.

I love launcherpro, the dev is constantly improving it and now we have a side-scrollable dock with 10 extra buttons, it really is amazing.

After realizing ADW is open source and Launcher pro is not, I'm sticking with ADW.
It'd be nice if you could just switch launchers without setting EVERYTHING up again... Widgets, apps... I'm using LauncherPro right now, it's really nice.. Haven't tried ADW yet, but perhaps I will sometime.
I use adw and love it! I think that it is much cleaner and more "android" looking. The adw dev just released an update today that made it WAY more stable.

ADW FTW! i have both and constantly switching too, but i like adw best
Launcher Pro. I hate ADW launcher for some reason..
I have been using ADW and decided to try launcher pro after reading this thread. They both seem to be doing a great job. They have introduced unique ideas to almost same tasks.
If the developers of both the launchers are reading this forum, please try to see if you guys can collaborate.
Both are amazing!!
And it´s freaking great, that we can choose, what we wanna use!
Android & Android Devs rock !!!!****
I use ADW Launcher because it's open source
But Launcher Pro is very good too
I to really like ADW and especially the open source side of things
However one feature i really like on LP is the screen selector notifier bar thingy at the bottom that's real nice
but still ADW is my launcher of choice! and i only just found out about the swiping up on the bottom thing yesterday! even though that's probably been in a few versions
LauncherPro.

Hate to move away from the topic.. but I have to ask someone...
What is this instant diversion people have to closed-source software?
Just because something is open-sourced doesn't mean it is instantly better than the competition, or does it?
I myself have both installed, I switch back and forth - generally with new updates to check them out. Right now, ADW is my default, the custom widget sizes makes using a 6x6 layout possible. Which rocks!
But, LauncherPro has some great features, and is equally as good a product.
If you've installed a new launcher, you may find the same thing I did: it's pretty much impossible to get an image to not distort when used for wallpaper. I messed with this for hours.
Then I discovered the app Wallpaper Set and Save. It runs on the NC, and it does one thing: set wallpaper so it's not distorted. Perfect.
Can you post the apk?

Sure. Here 'tis.
Dolphin 4 set the wallpaper for me from an internet picture just fine, FYI.
This is only a work around though. I want undone whatever it was the launcher pro did or im going to flash my nook and start over.
I'd guess that Launcher Pro just undid whatever hackery B&N did to their rom to correct the natively terrible way android handles desktop images. This app just rehacks it.
Same issue
I had the same problem but what I did was just set launcher pro to show 1 col by 1 row then after the resize went back to 10 col by 10 rows. First pop-up the settings menu with the tiny little menu button between the battery and "U" buttons in the soft menu. Rows and columns are set in preferences>Homescreen settings.
Note this just got my icons back on screen but the wallpaper is still oversized.
Would a subforum for people who want to be LendMe friends be a good idea?
Or would it be better off here?
I think it would work out very well to separate the conversation so people can find people they want to lend books between. It didn't occur to me before for XDA because most of the forums have to do with phones that dont have this sort of social feature
just a thought

I'm certain a whole new website/forum will crop up with people willing to lend books to one another. The great thing about lending through the Nook is that you know you'll get your book back! (That is until someone figures out how to hack it to keep the book )

It's the last video from the review and you can see his Homescreen at about 0:33
I've been looking all over the internet for 3 days. XDA is my last hope to find out.
Thanks!
From the looks of it, it looks like a regular stock SGS2 launcher. I compared it against other reviews and it looks similar. I watched the video some more and noticed a few things that reminds me a lot of ADW launcher. Like for instance, when he swiped up, it opened the app drawer. ADW Launcher has that feature. When I looked at his dock bar, it didn't look like a regular dock bar and possibly had a hidden one. ADW Launcher has that feature as well.
But, my conclusion is it is a regular stock SGS2 launcher. You can still find similarities to it by using ADW Launcher.

Oh, you just want the thin icons like in the video? Have you checked through your Settings menu for anything relating to home docks and launcher?
My co-worker has a SGS2 and I could probably check his phone and see if such feature like that exist.
If not, then I don't know what will allow you to have thin icons like that and whatnot. Best thing to do is check through all your settings.

I guess you mean the clustered homescreen? Its ADW. And it looks like there isn't a theme applied. They're all stock icons, but tgeyre cut off because there's so many columns.

That's it!
Just installed ADW and it works setting columns to maximum which is 8.
Thank you!
I've been a LauncherPro user for many years now, and as such I've stuck with it on my Note. However, due to the "laggy" app-drawer opening animation, I've had to disable that completely (so that the drawer opens immediately).
I believe that pretty much ALL third-party launchers suffer from stuttering in some way or another. Does anyone actually know WHY this is the case on the Note? Its not ROM specific.
The alternative is to just use TouchWiz, which I am 100% keen on doing, except for ONE little problem. 90% of Android widgets are 4 columns wide, and there is no way to resize widgets with TouchWiz.
Anyone have any tips or suggestions? I get the feeling that most people stick with TouchWiz, so I'd love to know what you do about the 4 column limitation.

No problem
I have tried most of the available launchers. The one i am most happy with at the moment is spb shell 3d, its not cheap. But when in tablet mode, looks great on the note. The widgets really make use of the screen resolution.
The only issue is there is no ability to alter the row/column count. Which in tablet mode has a count of 8. Which is a little high for the screen size of the note.
I have emailed the Developers of spb shell 3d and they have told me a update will be available soon.
Just my opinion
Thanks. I wish there was a way to test SPB before buying.
Are you able to resize widgets with SPB?

There is, but not one that I could ever recommend
I admit I tried it and found it very wanting. I only did it for the trial, because the cost was so high. I am glad I did, as I found it very wanting on my device. Others seem faster to me.
I use ssLancher. It has a very different approach, and everything is customisable. I also use a separate app launcher and Folder Organiser, leaving me 'free' from the app organisation that most launchers pin on you. That allows me to play with more with less effort.
go launcher is good because you can use ICS theme.
But this stupid launcher removes ICS animation ! (returns Gingerbread stock)
I hope new update (4.0) will bring for us more then just a nice shell.

No matter what Kernel/ROM I use, every single launcher lags noticeably. I never had this problem with my previous phones (Atrix, Defy+, SGS2). And yes, I'm and advanced user so I know how to optimize the OS.
I just stuck to ADW EX, selecting the Fast interface and setting drawing cache to low quality. It lags but it's way less than Launcher Pro, GO and SS Launcher.
Hope this gets fixed on ICS.

ADW Launcher EX rly nice low on memory and alot of customizations possibilities.
Mmhhnnnnnn
I agree, I tried lots of launchers and IMO ADW EX is the best one!
It should be amazing one day to get anything equal to the Sense interface as Launcher (NO SPB Shell is not as good as Sense), don't you think so? I love it on HTC

I used to use Launcher Pro back in the day, but TBH, I consider it to be dead now; the developer hasn't made any changes to ver 0.8.6 for almost a year now... I think it's abandoned.
I use ADW EX, and it's pretty decent!
I've been using Solo launcher for a LONG time and love all the customizations it can do, but after I got my nexus 6 the solo will not let me open an app from the app drawer, i have to drag it to my home screen first.
so what launcher do you guys find is best?
Love nova, very smooth and a lot of customizations
I would say either Nova or Apex. They ware about the same, but Nova has a little more customizability.
Nova... Easily...
Just expect majority of the response will be nova.

Long time nova prime user here. It works good on here besides the odd persistant google search box in the recent apps menu bug that feels a tad glitchy. It seems to me like it could use an update. Anyone try stock with xposed gel settings? So I'm on stock for the moment.

About once a week I'll install Nova, customize the layout and screens, put a new icon pack on... then that same day I'll uninstall it and go back to the stock launcher. I am pretty indecisive when it comes to layouts. I probably change my wallpaper 3-4 times a day.
