May I ask a question I do not really find an answer.
Whats the difference between the "Android development ..." and "Original Development..." threads? On both there are kernels and ROMs and some other things. Meanly the same target development objectives.
Actually, those are subforums, not threads.

Great Contribution, Don't trip on your wits on the way out
The following are most likely “Original Development”:
Official releases of highly original and upstream custom ROMs (built from the ground up with significant original development within them
Official releases/development of such original ROMs, perhaps posted by the maintainer or their nominated person.
A significant “first” in development for a device. Significant is subjective, but it is likely something which took considerable time/effort, and is generally accepted by developers to be significant and non-trivial.
Kernels which are built with beneficial changes that are not simply pulled from other kernels already available. Some element of original work is expected.
Tools and utilities with a clear purpose, and which are well-made, and useful to users. They should have an element of originality, either in purpose or through significant improvement in the means of operation.
Significant port of a ROM from one device to another, giving enhanced features or functionality to users of the target device. The port should be beneficial (a port from two virtually identical devices isn’t original development, it’s winzipping, and nobody really benefits from this, as it’s not development)
The following are most likely not “Original Development”, and should be posted in the “Android Development” subforum:
Your own “unofficial” stock build of your favourite original, source-built (or otherwise) ROM, particularly where an official or maintainer-endorsed thread exists already.
Minor derivatives of other ROMs with little or no changes, or ROMs consisting of “placebo” features as a main constituent or claim.
Renames or rebadges of others’ work – these don’t belong on XDA at all! Refer to rule 12 for more information.
Reposts of existing ROMs with small changes (i.e. kitchen work, such as adding a couple of apps). If you could realistically distribute your changes as an “addon pack” above and beyond a ROM, you should do so. In addition, your “ROM” would not be original development as it would be substantially identical to the original ROM.
A thread created with unrealistic goals that are clearly unachievable by those starting the thread. This is not intended to discourage high aspirations, rather to prevent threads porting Windows Phone 8 to the HTC Wallaby. This is pretty much common sense.
A ROM where a main or significant claim/feature is graphical changes to the user interface (ie. Themed ROM)

Nowhere near as useless as your contribution, Mr. Retired Senior Moderator. Why didn't you answer his question instead of wasting time on me? In a technical forum such as this it helps if people use the proper terminology.

Wow. You got all that from "Actually, those are subforums, not threads." You must be a genius at determining someone's intent from a simple post. The reason I commented was because he made the same mistake in his thread title, which could lead people to click on it for the wrong reason. Oh, and so he won't make the same mistake again. I'm sure anyone reading this thread will have no problem identifying the real asshat. Good job.:good:

Wow guys...... wow..
Related
I seen alot of trouble minded people around this part of XDA since i release my new ROM and been critise of been selfish and not sharing so here is my thoughts on the whole matter.
I have no obligations to no one on XDA or any people on the NET.
The ROM source wasnt shared as I was asked not to and promised not to as this could have implications.
For people who said I DONT SHARE just go back and check what contributions I made to this community.
Respect and Honour is amongst code of gentleman, I can release stuff to XDA as I usually do with new official roms/ radio but if I am not allowed to I WILL not break my promise just to please everyone.
I was astonished to see how people on the net who around 90% of us dont know each other can behave like this and make up accusations amongst others.
I deleted a thread which was posted by a user whic he asked me to just to clear this up for others, who created a new xda ID to prove a point.
I will release a X1 VERSION tomorrow of this ROM, and not sure when I will release another ROM at this time.
I will try and release SYS & XIP of the new build to XDA by few days time but OEM APPS will be not included has I cannot yet.
This is not anything to justify myself but to let everyone knows who are always trying to put good people down by backstabbing and secretively trying to plot against someone who think they could be competition for them.
I can cook for myself and not release to XDA but I think this is what other people would like so at last and not least:
Thanks for everyone who is still supporting my work, this thread will be closed soon, was only made to for everyone peace of mind as like what I said i havent no obligations to no one here.
CASE CLOSED
Dutty, I support you and many thanks for your sharing on ur cooked rom all the time.
Well said, and thanks for all your hard work.
Dear Dutty,
You ar ROm is really great!
I will already supoort you,
Please don't give up!
All I hear is a bunch of BS... You can release a ROM, but you can't release the OEMs ? "Code of honour" ? Yeah.. right... there is no "honour" amongst thieves...

LMAO!!! ya like that right? where dutty is from you say it like this....
"TIFE mon Nah have no respect ....and mi naaah fraid a dem!!!"
now then....i dont know how you manage to fool yourself...but xda is and will always be your life. You're a nerd just like the rest of us!
we've had a long standing relationship...and i take offense to being referred to as "the net." I am a real person with feelings dutty!
its only now i realize this....the only reason you never moved to America is just so you could avoid having the same phone as me??? so you wont have to cook a rom for me??? you sir have no ethics. none!
ps. you thought by locking the thread you could keep my bafoonary away??? NO SIR! i will have my pointless word heard at all cost!
I have to apologize for a mistake i made.
This post is my personal apology for a mistake i made moderating that might have caused a lot of discussion, this is not the official XDA answer to this whole situation.
There was indeed a thread about a rom that got deleted because the OP posted a request to get the thread Closed.
An OP has the right to do that, whatever ones opinion is about that is unfortunate but that does not outweigh the right everyone has to remove his or her own posting or re-editing them.
Dutty being a moderator did what would be expected and close the thread.
Now there's always people that have suspicions, so a thread was started that had e screen shot of the archived version of that thread.
NOW here's where i made a mistake.
The screenshot that was posted to ask the big question why the thread disappeared actually had the answer in it to explain why the thread was gone.
As i saw the action of this thread's purpose sole purpose was to discredited a Moderator in Public and posting information that was removed by a moderator. My first reaction was to uphold for whatever reason the thread was removed to trust my fellow Moderator and remove the screenshot.
This was done quickly do keep everyone's head cool.
But i acted to quickly and didn't read everything that was in the screenshot and especially the last two posts.
Maybe if the screenshot of the removed thread wasn't removed everything would have been more clear and a lot of bull and accusations would not have been directed towards Dutty.
In the end mistakes happen, but it's shocking to see how easily and quickly the rumour mill can go these days here at XDA.
Maybe it wouldn't have been different if the screenshot was still there, who knows.
But i do feel that it might have made a difference if it was still online and that i acted to quickly on that.
Here's the screenshot and i hope a few people scratch their heads reading that Dutty (as he always does), provides information on troubles he's having and finding in the rom and in the end closes the thread.

Dutty is not a friend of mine, but i do respect him.
And i'm sorry he had to endure another gulf of acusation based on assumptions over something that was being looked at.
The days that i was 24/7 on XDA are over and it's only logical that not all of us can always respond swiftly.
But even now already a few other threads are starting up the same discussion.
Patience Please,
We have one awesome Admin with only one pair of hands and eyes.
Opening new threads and ignoring requests to chill out is not helping at the moment.
Leave your PC, call a good friend you haven't spoken for a while and go get a beer or a glass of milk.
XDA will still be here the day after tomorrow and all cooks will still be releasing new roms and propably work more together then people actually think they do as they always have.
http://mobile.downloadatoz.com/tuto...-to-motorola-xoom-and-samsung-galaxy-tab.html
Fake?
i think they are referring to the 10.1
For sure referring to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 handed out at Google IO. This should be in General or Q&A next time.
The Android 3.0 HoneyComb is designed to suit the needs of Tablets by Google. Actually, there is no official Android 3.0 HoneyComb update for 7 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab. But the developers at XDA has been testing the Android Honeycomb on the 7 Inch Samsung Galaxy Tab. Now there is new progress, Spacemoose1 at XDA has recently ported the Android Honeycomb to the Samsung's 7 inch Galaxy Tab. But there is something wrong.

I edited it to remove some of the images I added, so what? Your point wasn't really about the amount of images it was that I posted the image in the first place!
Also any mod can see, edit history on this forum so I wasn't exactly trying to hide it either. I posted the image to make a point!
PS. My definition of spam is posting topics like this in a section designed for posting projects/reference.

Well my definition of spam is something that is applied over and over again... Such as you posting that damned image 20+ times.
I actually think the image is a good idea if used in PROPER context... instead of spamming someones thread with it. Instead, point it out to them.

I DID apply it in the proper context, ie a user posted i wrong place, the image points out the sticky and announcement regarding this EXACT issue.
What other context could the image be used in ??
PS. You was moaning about it even before I "spammed" this topic. You was saying I thought I was a mod in the other topic I posted a single image in. I dont do this because I want to be a mod, I do it because its annoying when this forum gets diluted and its blatantly obvious that these topics do not belong here.

Again, you only see what you want to see.
You put that thing in the original post more than 20 times. THAT IS SPAM You are a bigger wanker than I gave credit for if you don't see that. Even Chainfire noticed and removed them from another thread...
I also said the image was a good idea except you use it to spam people. Just because you edited it to remove your idiocy doesn't justify it.
Instead, post the image ONCE and remind the newbie that he should have checked the circled post before posting in this forum.
Just because your sick of seeing newbies doesn't mean you acting childish is going to stop the plethora of people flocking to this forum with no idea what is going on.
Than again, you must be perfect like Jebus, and couldn't understand being new or even *gasp* mistaken.

Hello Thrill friends, it looks like is not enough clear about posting in Development Section. Please read this easy explanation from Senior Moderator M_T_M before posting. Thanks in advance.
MOD EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?
Regards,

I posted a few posts on Off-Topic forums, contributing jokes, 3 word story things, general fun and games.
These were clumped into one ridiculous looking post, putting my posts from 10 back down to 2.
I had a read through this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?a=81
Anybody spot what I've done wrong?
This site specifically stops new members from posting more than once every 5 minutes, and I'm not allowed to post on any meaningful forums, so I don't understand what the heck I'm supposed to be posting on!! Can't even post jokes without them getting removed!!!

The Q&A and General forums are as meaningful as the forums that you are obviously referring to (development forums).
The rule is there to stop absolutely ridiculously selfish noobs going into dev forums and creating posts (or even worse, creating threads!) that simply say "I can't do this.... I can't do that...."
Anyone that's been on here a while and now knows what they are doing will tell you, 100% accurately, that most of the time you only have to read a little longer and you find your answer. It's VERY unlikely that you have a question that hasn't been asked before.
Try contributing meaningfully to the Q&A and General forums for your device. You may find that you enjoy helping people, rather than just coming here to leech and demand answers (not saying you do that - just saying it happens).
Good luck mate

Ok, fair point, I was referring to this off-topic forum, which I thought was just for fun.
But my point remains: what did I do wrong to get my posts clumped together? I posted genuine posts in this off-topic forum as this site permitted me too.
And while I appreciate you were referring to the typical noob when you pulled out the big phrases ("absolutely ridiculously selfish noobs" ..... "I can't do this.... I can't do that...." etc.) remember, you don't know me.... you don't know what I was or wasn't going to post, suggest, answer, ask - you only assume
My question related to the forum rules (which I searched for ), and in what way - by posting a few jokes in joke forums - I had broken them.
Maybe the moderators should update those rules and make them a little clearer next time, particularly with regards to this 10 post thing.
Just a helpful suggestion.

I wasn't assuming - I wouldn't do that because you're right, I don't know you. I iterated the point in order to explain the type of person that has unfortunately brought about the need for such rules. They can be a pain for genuinely non-pleblike users, but most of them will understand the need for such rules as they tend to make the site that little bit better.
Anyway, just don't clump a load of posts together and you'll be fine.
The merge feature is automatic and happens to everyone, even Mods such as myself. You did nothing wrong in the aspect, however, I will be deleting this thread as it is yet another way to increase post count. Do as the poster above suggested and head over to Q&A to contribute some meaningful posts. If you have more questions on the rule, see the link in my sig.
This may or may not be what you're talking about, but the site did recently implement a change where posts are auto-merged if they are back to back within a certain time frame.*

I don't get why so many threads got locked. perhaps clean them up or something, but lock it all up?
I wanted it to keep going so if there was an update, it would be posted...
Yes, thank you. Keep up on the over drive moderating :cyclops:

Because there is already a main thread for stuff to be discussed. Nobody wants the forums filled with posts about the same topic. They do it to keep tithe forums clean
Step666 rules this place with an iron fist...err keyboard and mouse! I mean that in a nice way though... good to see such proactive moderators. Otherwise we would have eleventy billion preorder/shipping threads instead of just two!

Presumably we are supposed to use the main thread with over 6000 posts populated mostly by people who bought through Google Play which tends to move a break neck speed. Good luck finding anything in there

It sucks that so many threads are locked. Most of us have nothing better to do in this forum other than wait for our tablets. I've never seen such an over moderated forum here at xda. This thread has jack to do with the nexus 7 and isn't locked, but threads discussing where I bought my tablet and when i might get it are locked. Thanks mods!

It appears that the mods don't have anything better to do than kill peoples hopes and dreams. IMO any news about the N7 is good news. It keeps me pacified.

If any of you have genuine queries about a Moderating decision, then PM the Mod in question. Or, if you're unsure who is responsible, then PM any of us and we can pass the query on to the correct person.
However, if all you want to do is complain that your thread has been locked then you may as well save us both some time and not bother.
This is not a new policy, it's been in effect since Mods were first assigned to this section. So either you started your thread knowing full well that you should've been posting in the relevant sticky or you didn't search before posting and therefore failed to follow the forum rules - either way, it's no excuse.
