Live OC problems - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I have Fishear's ROM 13/01 and I really like it....
only one thing : I have problem setting live oc...this happens in evry ROM so that's why I didn't post it in his official thread...
In games it's stable up to live OC 110%....past it the game crashes or it reboots...can anyone help me with the settings??
Do I have to change voltages???

It's normal to get instability past 110%, some even have to go lower.
You might get better results with overvolting, but it's risky and might not be worth it.

[Q] Hit the 5 month mark, should I finally root and lagfix?

I have noticed that when I click a button, I usually have to wait from 1-2 seconds before I get a response. Would lagfix take care of this? I'm running stock Froyo.
As many have stated all the lagfix does is help fix the very slow rts file system, it most likely would not help in your case.
Best thing to do is delete unused apps, and reboot the phone every day or to(seems to help mine out, cant guarantee results)
Also if you havent needed root in 5 months you probably don't need it
Unless you want to use opitimised roms, I dont see why you would need to root. Check your memory usage delete unused apps and reboot the phone ever once in a while.
My honest opinion, no reason to have an android phone if you are not using roms

Gonna have to agree with mcord here. had to go back to stock froyo for about 5 hours (didnt have all my tool to get back my 2.3.4 ROM) and it was horrible.
you might not be up for it but i really recommend flashing a Froyo Custom ROM from one of the xda DEVs. you'll love your phone and be amazed that it can be so much smoother and responsive.
First thing I did after i rooted was flashed a new kernel to overclock. Performance increased but battery life was poor. Then my first rom was cm7..been hooked since..tried miui once then went back to cm7.

This is what lagfix can do for your phone.
Im using stock mosaic V 2.3.4 rom with no overclock.

Providing arbitrary benchmarks does not seem like an actual reason to employ a lag fix.

No a Benchmark score is not the best example to lag fix your phone ,but the more power you get, plus better battery life and, better perrformance are great reasons to lag fix your phone. I just posted the quadrant score so kb0npw can see the increase performance from normal rfs file system to ext4(lag fix).

Lol people always thinking benchmarks scores mean everything

I dont think he thought it meant everything, he was giving a simple before and after which showed some improvement. Quadrant can actually be pretty useful when trying to gauge what effects certain changes have on your phone, say you score a 1900 before you change 'x' and then 2200 after that change, then you know its increased performance somewhat and youre moving in the right direction. How much it has increased your performance is debatable, however. My point is quadrant can be a useful tool when making changes on your phone if you take it with a grain of salt.
EDIT: To answer op's question, Read up on some custom roms and flash one, the difference is phenomenal and you'll wonder how you went 5 months without them. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me and I'll see what help I can be

anyway to fix this issue with my D3?

i go a used D3 yesterday. a factory wipe was done, and it was already rooted for me. i rerooted it because i did not see superuser. i am running adw witch does run better then stock launcher but the phone over all is really laggy, kinda like my droidx on froyo was...
this is why i wish i had an SBF for 959, aside from a factory reset again, is there anything in i can do to try and make this run better? im wondering if it is slow because of something the previous user did? and the camera takes AT LEAST 6-7 seconds to load up EVERY time, and it takes for ever to get into focus sometimes...i hear great things about this phone, but so far im not inpressed at all..
thx all
The camera does open very slow. The phone shouldn't be lagging though. Only problem I ever had was with stock launcher. Don't know why this is happening to you.

Check your apps, might have a strange one.
Sounds like something is chewing up your CPU, restart phone and then do some tests and benchmarks, see if your getting average Droid 3 performance. This phone is faster then Tegra phones in most cases including games.
when we get some roms, kernel tweaks and cm7 then this thing will fly.

By the time we get CM it will be CM8.

I ended up going through almost every app i had and checking the refresh intervals to make sure it was limited. also i would limit the accounts you have synced and if you can use the 3rd party apps so you can get better control over how it behaves vs. letting motorola settings take over.
I've had mine for about 24 hours and it doesnt lag processor wise, of course without 4G some of the higher quality data transfer will be slower.

happens with me tooo..
JUst do like me take a towel spray some water drops on it and put ur phone on that towel and use it simple ....
I have the temperature problem too.
Mine rarely goes lower than 40°C.
Whenever I do something (no matter what, surf the web play games listen music or calling) it immediately goes up to 50 °C.
Although it doesnt lag or so. Ut works well. I just want to know if my phone could be damaged.
Ah I am on CM 7.2.0 RC 5.7 and dont overclock.

Hmmm. Weird. Mine stays at 30-35, by gaming 40.

My Galaxy Mini is overclocked to 787MHz on Official Cyanogenmod 7.2 RC3 ROM and i don't experience overheating problems so much, while surfing/multitasking its arround 45~50 degrees. Li-ion batteries, should not exceed 50 C, if they do it speeds up the aging process of the battery AFAIK. So try to do something about it, try to change the way you hold your phone or mosething like that. I know it sounds ridicilous but it might be worth a shot. After all, you should use your phone and don;t worry too much about the temps - you're running it on stock frequencies anyway
I also have Li-ion battery and it is still not 1yr old. It was produced on 24.05.2011.
I'd change my ROM to Cm7 RC2 or RC3 but I feel lazy to reinstall all my apps, personalize my homescreens and all this stuff. Until I face a serious problem with phone lagging or FC .... although I have to say my phone reboots from time to time especially when doing different things... like opening an app after app and installing app after app.... it has always happened to me in costum ROM's....
Sent from my GT-S5570 using xda premium
Switched to Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 RC1 mobtek and I must say temperature and battery live are much better. Even the performance is better too and there is more free space to install apps on SD via Install Manager without partiotioning SD card....
Go to http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/ and see the instructions to install it....

I got that rom but I'm usually running between 40 and 50. Never bothers me and does not really affect performance

Try using the silicon case for galaxy mini as silicon is a good heat absorber. For lag in music I can't help except advising you to change your Tom to the latest version of whichever rom you like.

13329 seems a little weak for overclocked. I was thinking it could be more in the 13500+ area when out of the box you can get 12800+
Quads don't really mean that much overall but I was thinking it could be higher overclocked.

I have not actually rooted. It seems pretty stable to do so I just have not took the plunge yet. I am still kinda testing out what they gave me out of the box. Rooting and supporting the developers by me will happen soon though....
I dont have screenshots here to post, but using Quadrant on my new HTC One, i regularly get scores of 12,000 +.
What the HTC One needs to make it complete is for a modder to make a graduated volume slider that goes up to 11 .... LOL

I did another run, this time with ARHD 7.1 and the New TeaMSeven performance kernel v3.8 = NON OC !! :good:
