[SOLVED]Tether over wi-fi?

Today i forgot my usb data cable at home and found myself desperately looking for an internet connection with my laptop. Ive downloaded 'bernacle wifi tether' , tetherblu and '' wireless tether for root users''.
Neitherr worked for me. In all of those my laptop could see the network those apps produced but could not connect even at maximum signal strenght.
Did anyone ever succeed with wifi tether on the n1?
Edit:rooted with cm 5.0.6
ive used barnacle, its pretty nice
any messages on why it couldnt connect? your laptop support ad-hoc networks?
Sorry for my noobility ..i dont know what is an ad hoc network. I dont receive any errors, it tryes to connect until it times uot saying it couldnt connect or repair the connection of unlnown reasons. Im using vista x64 on an n80x5 assus notebook. Could it be that i need some additional drivers for the n1?
No, you don't need any drivers to connect to WiFi.
Tested WiFi teather for root when downloaded it, works perfectly.
Check your laptop settings, I'd guess that it has absolutely nothing to do with the phone.
Barnacle became my #1 wifi tether program. works evertime. it might be the way you have your laptop setup or something. WiFi teather for root works also.
If you have static ip on your laptop...then none of those will work. Set your laptop to obtain ip automatically...i bet it work then.
Problem solved !
it was indeed a problem with my network adapter's driver.
Works great now!
thank you!

[Q] tethering isn't working

Hi all,
I have Nexus One with stock rom version 2.3.4,
i'm trying to tether my laptop from my phone (WIFI and USB)
and both doesn't working for me.
i can surf with the phone to anywhere when tethering works
i can also ping my external phone IP from the laptop, but no luck when trying to access websites via my laptop.
anyone here have any tips for me?
Thanks!
this may sound dumb but it works for me, once you are able to ping your phone try disabling the wifi hotspot on your phone and re-enabling it then once your laptop is connected again try pinging a site eg: google.com

[Q] wifi MAC is missing after doing factory reset

Hi everybody,
I'm having an extreme problem with the galaxy tab wi-fi. The thing is that, I bought my tab just 7 days ago and everything was fine. The only issue I got as usual like others in this forum or internet was the wifi adhoc problem.
So, I got over everything I could and found on this forum and from many others as well. I've tried the wpa-supplicant file replacement and the methods way described in this forum in all way. Finally, what I could get close was to make the connection between the tab and laptop adhoc hotspot. But no luck on getting the internet still.
Finally I thought of factory reset and doing this the main problem appeared. After doing the factory reset, it shows that the MAC address for the wifi is unavailable and so for the bluetooth as well. I am just stunt to see this and no way I can get back to my original state. So, it's currently a tab without a wifi. Please help me or guide me to the solution of this problem to recover my wifi mac address and to make connection with the ad-hoc connections.
For your note, the android version was froyo (2.2), never updated to any other. I also have the galaxy S II which runs on Gingerbread (2.3) and that doesn't have any kind of problem with adhoc networking or so. That just gets connected through connectify straightly.
Please back up me with your solution available and thanks in advance for this.

[Q] wifi infrastructure mode

Anyone got anything working for this ?
I've tried wifi tether for root users
and lots of others.
Nothing allows for infrastructure. Even tried 3GHotspot.zip and Black Hat zip .
Any help ? Anyone got this working ?
Check themes and apps threads.. if you want to tether to Windows or Linux or another android device only way is wifi tether v3 beta 4 or higher enable mss clamping in settings and you can tether using ad-hoc but that is about it. Is this what you are trying to do??
sent from my Stock v6 LG Revolution
I'm trying to connect my tablet to share my 4G.
Tablet only connects in infrastructure, not adhoc.
If I can fix on my phone ie add infrastructure, then I'll be ok. Otherwise I'll need to root and mess with the files on my tablet

You might have better luck finding a thread for your tablet and finding out how to change the wpa_supplicant so the tablet will detect an ad-hoc network. I used to have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" and had to find a patch and replace the wpa_supplicant (after rooting) so it could detect and connect to my android phone. What kind of tablet?
Only other thing I can think of is install the Verizon Hotspot app and pay for tethering.. that is infrastructure as far as I know.

[Q] Wifi problem

I got a problem with the wifi after I install the rom id Andro-rc3
I replace wpa_suplicant, in order to get an ad-hoc connection. and it worked. before that, my phone does not even detect the ad-hoc. and successfully
I can connect to wifi. surf smoothly. and others. but for some applications do not. like facebook. instagram. and certainly I never managed to upload anything. unless I move to 3G networks
can anybody help me?
