So I recently bought the Samsung Multi-Media dock.
I've seen a few reviews and un-boxing's but can't seem to find any videos on people showing the full capabilities.
I also noticed, that when everything was plugged in, the dock wouldn't read any storage devices (pendrives and HDD). Would anyone know the problem? or what I have to do.
Thanks in advanced.
Also if anyone knows of good videos showing what it can do etc.. or record what it can do

Multimedia dock is just for charging and audio out.
Smart dock is for otg, hdmi out and charging.
swyped all these spelling errors from my galaxy note 2
Probably not enough power to run everything.
ive got the one with the 3 usb ports, 3.5 mm jack, hdmi port and the mini usb port .. isn't that the smart dock??
cos the box says multi-media haha
Are you sure it's the official one and not some clone? How much did you pay for it?

You can probably call up samsung and send them the serial number to make sure it's real or not.
If it's the real one, I keep reading all over the forums that the format of the hdd/pen drives might be the issue. If you do a search I'm sure you'll find them. This was usually when people were buying the 64GBs cards and had to reformat them to get them to work. I'm assuming it might be a similar issue.

K400 imo
Worked for me
It works fine for me with wired Mouse and Keyboard
I even noticed that if you attach the mouse before and the plug your notes in it will automatically rotate your screen
Regarding the HDD and Pen drive I didn't try it yet but it will probably not be able to read the ntfs partitions but fat and exFat must work fine

Tv reports 1080/30p. Using Maxthon browser in full screen mode and set for smallest letters is a pleasure using on bigger screen. Most (all?) applications are not optimized to utilize higher resolution output and simply mirror phone screen. Netflix app has a problem with smart dock. When video is played in full screen mode - hdmi is formated 4:3 instead 16:9. Other video apps output in correct ratio.

I am playing with the TV-out function on my phone... I went looking all over for a tv out cable, ended up trying my old Zen Vision:M 60gb (the fat one) video out cable, worked perfectly! now i'm wondering if i could have something different display on the TV than on my screen, like doing a power point presentation, and having presenter view on my screen, and the slideshow on the TV. Playing SNES games on the tv, and having just the controller showing on the screen. watching a movie on the tv and having the play/pause slider bar, on the screen. or EVEN having a video on the tv and using my phone for other things at the same time...
tl;dr - does anyone think i can multi-screen with the TV out on my phone, or is it locked to displaying whats on the phone?

Doubtful because the TV-out is a complete copy of the screen.
It does not process anything itself.
Sorry to disappoint.
NOT TRUE, With some devices you can have only controls on the phone screen while watching video on TV...

This will be possible with the next generation chipset (which was announced recently). For now it can not be done.

Really which devices.
I am not trying to be rude. I'm asking this as a serious question.
It's possible over WiFi using DLNA compatible devices or various less universal remote control solutions. None of those have anything to do with the TV out ofcourse.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
We could see this feature in the next samsung phone or TAB. I heard that samsung is working now with nvidia for using the Tegra processor. Maybe it'll have a split tv out feature or similar with the one on computers - secondary and primary screen.
@ sargasso : It's not a dumb question lol . I'm playing quake 3 on my phone (even on network with others) and you say it's to much to ask from a phone ?!? These 1 gig phones from totay's technoloy are no simple devices anymore, they can handle allmost anythig and can do actualy a lot of thing that notebooks do. With a dual screen view feature it's not about "if" or "not posible", but when. And "when" is very soon. Remember that not long ago there were notebooks with less hardware than these phones.
Mark my words (love this line from Matrix) ! - Pretty soon we'll see not only a split tv out but a new feature in wich you swipe the picture from your phone toward the lcd tv(via wifi/dlna) just like in the James Bond movie. Anything is posible. Next year the phones will even recieve a dual core cpu.
Yeah I dug up my old tv out cable which came with my N95 and that work perfectly...
I'd prefer hdmi out though.....
Most likely available before H2 - 2011
...a native triple display controller, and on-chip HDMI 1.3a interface.

Yes i may have put it in the wrong forum, i'm sorry, i wasn't sure where to put it.
It is running on linux, and it has the ability to do multiple outputs, so it was just a matter of asking if the hardware could support it.

This is the only device that can do simultaneous USB OTG and HDMI output, so if that is what you are after specifically, then no, there isn't a cheaper option.
Have you found any programs that restrict playback via HDMI? Like NetFlix or HBOGo?
What power output does it charge at?
I have the S3 desktop dock and even if I pug the 2A Note 2 charger and cable in, it charges real slow.
On the bottom of the unit it says it is only rated at 1A.

5V/2A, but even so charging is very slow. Just found out there are some Root-required apps that can turn the phone screen off but keep it running, so will try that with the dock shortly, should help out the charging situation a lot.
Just tested the Root-required app Screen Standby - successfully lets you turn off the phone screen but keep using it on the external monitor
Lucky guy NZ! is there any way you can test your version with an S3 attached to it? I have both phones and am very curious to see the compatibility despite some of the mixed reviews online...
...on another note, I'm not sure you can cleanly open the unit and snap some detailed photos of the boards or measure resistances put on the micro-usb line but if you can...
thanks for the review!!

I haven't tried Netflix, will try it via Tunnelbear and see how it goes. Nothing has failed to work yet.
I presume you could lie the dock on its side and it would rotate to landscape, providing your launcher supported that orientation. Balancing it would be very tricky though, I think the phone would tend to slide of the USB connection.
Lying it sideways maybe with a stoopid rubber band might be an option for me rather than a rotation app. Just an option, I guess!
Thanks again!

The reason I asked about NetFlix and HBO-Go was my old Galaxy Tab HDMI dock you couldn't watch HBO to Go via HDMI as the program blocked it. I can't recall if NetFlix did or not but I don't think it did.
Also with the old Galaxy Tab dock you could lay it sideways and it held the tab in the dock in landscape and acted as a kickstand. But the Tab had a tighter more secure looking fit than what this dock offers.

With the dock we have one station for video playback on TV, but together with option to control remote the phone with mouse and keyboard.
A very useful feature which makes us independent of the length and number of cables for this hardware and control the device.

If that's true that would be a great addition, BUT I haven't read anywhere that that would be an option for the tv dock. The micro usb is solely for charging purposes because mhl is dependent on external power supply.
I can however hook a keyboard/mouse to my tv itself. And also the tv remote is able to control your phone.

Then LG produces hdmi protocol incompliant TVs which I somehow doubt they do, as a major player in the consumer electronics and tv market. I'd rather say youre not using a correct cable rather than LG not having implemented hdmi cec in their devices.

Yes, in my TV missing option for cec control. That is.
After a thorough examination of the photos of the station, i saw no usb connector and missing supports on this for remote control devices .
In this situation I would not buy this product.
Where is the logic in this? Old dock have this options, but new dock don't have this.
How we will make remote control on this phone Xperia T with new dock or other product, if ours tv doesn't have this support for remote control/CEC/?
What is the way?
The dock must have a usb port (or power connector otherwise) as MHL needs an external power source.
The dock supports standard CEC/remote control, if your TV doesnt offer it, youre out of luck. Nothing sony or any other manufacturer could do about that. Your TV is ****, buy a new TV, basically.

1) FM Radio (web radio with Tune In app)

4) Phone (gsm and voip calls)
5) Player films
6) Internet and mail
7) Autodiagnosis real time with bluetooth EOBD interface
8) Satellite antitheft with realtime GPS Tracker
I planned and build an electronic circuit interface, which detects the theft and send to the tab a signal. So automatically start a call, a sms at my number and start the GPS tracking. In this way i can follow the thieves and recover the car.
9) Possibility of send a command to the car (by sms) so as activate some gadget in the car (for example turn off the engine so as interrupt the thieves sprint).
Actually in the tab run an AOKP rom (Milestone 6 android 4.0.4), but soon i will install AOKP 4.2.2. Thank you to addem1234, a guy of XDA which have build the last version of AOKP for our tab! A fantastic and super customizable ROM.
Regards from Venice!

well, i use the 16GB internal for apps, mp3, and navigator maps. For the other (films, ecc.) i use OTG feature with pen drive 32GB.
I must modify the 30 pin dock connection for working the OTG and the charge from USB at the same time. In fact, if you connected a OTG cable in our tablet you can not powered it. I need to have also the power in the tab so as i can detect when the car is on or off.

well, it's no simple..... In any way, you have to build a custom cable with pin out of standard.
I have bought an original samsumg cable, open the 30 pin connector, extract the micro-contact and repositioned in the right pin. Than sold the wires. Look at this pictures:

The car is BMW X1. It has useful "glove box" in place of stock car infotainment I don't have. I've only made power and aux cording to the box. For now the dock is holding by itself with the plugs pushing the box top ant the rear and the front edge pushing rubbered flour. The tab and the rubber hold it intact. So all I need is to push the docked tab into box, it stands quite firm by itself. Without the tab the box can be easily closed with the dock in.
After a while the tab started to disconnect on some major bumps (which we have plenty here). I'm reconsidering an attachment to resolve this. However there be no major modifications, maybe some extra struts on the tab to push down, cause for now only dock is pushed down, not the tab.
The soft part based on Tasker works like a charm. Only video registration running on background causes minor issues, which may be related to the 7300’s low internal memory performance.
Thanks for showcasing your builds - one simple and one incredibly ambitious!
It seems like there's an entire computer (VIC-20 style ) at the back of the tab, is that to control the actuator? And is the actuator for controling on/off? Also, was it "simple" or "impossible" to relocate the buttons and AC panels? And what about controlling the radio stuff; amplifier is still stock, I presume?
Lots of questions but this is just too cool! I've seen a few car builds but nothing in this scale.

Hi! The hardware at the back of the tab drive the actuator and much more!! (power the tab, manage the USB OTG, manage antithieft interface, adapt the level of the output, ecc. ecc.)
It's impossible to relocate the power button!!!
The amplifier is an Audison 4x80W
For control the final volume i used a double logaritmic potentiometer with push button.
The push button drive the actuator
Can I use a regular HDMI To RCA Converter to use a ChromeCast with my old TV that has the "Yellow, Red, White" Connectors?
Thanks!

I've been trying this out for a few days. At first I had a couple issues with the chromecast rebooting every few minutes, but after doing a factory rest it seems fine now. I've got it hooked up to an old stereo system (and monitor) replacing an Airport Express I used to stream from my Ipod. Got to say I like the chromecast a lot better, doesn't have as many features but was much easier to set up and does what I want (Google Play Music and Youtube) perfectly.

what kind of converter are you using? The HDMI to RCA has to be powered right? (not just a passive adapter)
Yep
It should work well. I got an HDMI to composite converter off of Amazon and Chromecast works fine

I can't link yet (under 10 posts) but you can search amazon for:
ViewHD Universal HDMI to Composite / AV Video Converter, Support PAL / NTSC Standard TVs
Just make sure you have a 5V 1A usb charger for it to work properly. I used an apple wall usb charger.

I didn't see anything on Amazon for cheaper than $30 that got good reviews
How's the quality on those adapters?
Does it really need a Digital to analog converter?
I think it's time for a new TV.
I have one converter than I am willing to sell. I've bought it a month ago on Amazon : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0080KN18K/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
because the stupid rental unit where I am currently on vacation still has an old TV. I've only used it for this short amount of time, because I needed to connect my Logitech Revue. I've also connected the Chromecast both through the Revue and directly to the converter. It's perfectly working , you can see some pictures here
