Is there a tripod mount for the sgn2? - Galaxy Note II Accessories

Been looking at online stores for a
Tripod for my note 2. Id like to take steady pictures and video and play with my stop motion app.
The ones I found used magnets. Something I will avoid to save my spen.
Any one knows of a tripod. Maybe a case that will fit a tripod. Thanks
Oh snap! I don't have a witty tapatalk signature!

This looks great! Also liking the flex which might help me with my videos at short ranges.
Oh snap! I don't have a witty tapatalk signature!

I just ordered one of these.
I also stopped by BestBuy and got a Gorillapod (original) - since the iStabilizer SMARTLY uses the standard 1/4 20 screw threads.
I've got a PT Cruiser, and it's going to effing ROCK as a car mount on the Oh Sh** bar that that is on the passenger side dash - plus it'll be great for tripod use while taking pictures.
Modular + multifunction = WIN.

They have this Joby Grip Tight also.

Here's the tripod I use.

[VIDEO] Exogear Exomount Tablet Car Mount Review

Product Page - http://www.exogear.com/products-exomount-tablet-car-dash-mount.html
I bought one of their mounts for my SGS III that I have coming, little did I know I was going to buy a tablet that would even more awesome to mount in the car..
You can find it on Amazon for $50 .. free shipping with Amazon Prime (ships from Las Vegas) .. I just ordered it because it's sooo cool and I didn't want it to sell out on me! LOL..
Pictures of my setup are below (using a borrowed iPad2 to demonstrate, The Nexus 7 Pics are attached below):
Picture 1 | Picture 2 | Picture 3 | Picture 4 | Picture 5 | Picture 6
Video Demonstration:
Part 1 - Ipad 2
Part 2 - Ipad 2
What ya'll think?
In terms of Quality... it comes assembled and functions exactly how it is in the video. It's very solid and secure. So your getting exactly what you see.
To make adjustments, it takes two hands. I doubt you'll be switching back and forth between landscape and portrait though. There is a knob in the back that makes adjusting easier and you can just tighten it when your done, but I didn't mess with that too much.
For those who don't have aux ports on their radio, I use a GOgroove FlexSMART X2.
Update: Since Youtube flagged the video with the Nexus 7, then deemed it okay, I'll have to re-record it when I have a spare moment. So maybe Saturday or Sunday I'll have a new one up!
If I helped in anyway, please hit the thanks button
It looks sweet but I was spoiled by Samsung's oem gs2 car dock that has charger input and audio output.
That's cool .. I have a bluetooth FM radio adapter as well. So you can stream pandora, google music, and phone calls as well (if you have the right setup)..
I was planning on using it for a gps also.
Is the quality and does it work well even for 50 bucks?
Streaming through bluetooth and then fm? that has to sound horrible.

No, it streams through the 3.5mm jack, then FM. The transmitter I have is pretty high quality, I don't hear any static. I don't have an aux port on my radio.
The bluetooth is so I can answer calls using the fm unit.
I should have the mount on Monday, and I'll borrow a tablet from someone in the coming week and post pictures of my setup.
As far as the mount goes, go to that site and look at the pictures, watch the videos ... go on Amazon and read the reviews ..
I might have to pick this up...my car receiver support bluetooth audio so I don't have to worry about cables (except the car charger) and a 7" tablet is perfect for a car environment. I'm kind of getting sick of messing around with phones in the car.
Okay Ya'll .. Thanks for the discussion and responses from my last video review. I finally got around to updating the review of this one. Check the OP for additional pictures and video. Please remember I'm doing this totally to give back to the XDA Community. Press the thanks button if you enjoyed the review or if I've helped you out.
Great review! Too bad I already have my Arkon coming in. LOL
Thanks for the review. Helped decide that I would prefer a model that better supported when in landscape. The Medellin below is made for 7inch tablets and has charging ports behind it.

The Kropsson you linked to is the 800 which only goes up to 5 inches (I guess thats why it's 36 bux). I think you were thinking of the Kropsson 900, which is 50 bux. Looks nice! Thanks for the link!

Here is the Kropsson 850 WITHOUT the charging ports.
http://www.amazon.com/Kropsson-Universal-Tablet-Mount-Holder/dp/B007C94EY0/ref=pd_cp_cps_0
Yeah..these are all the same make (with different names on them), with the exception that the Kropsson comes in different sizes and includes the charging port, which is pretty cool.
My video can serve as a visual for all of the models. It's going to operate the exact same way.
I prefer the 800 since its better suited for 7" tablets in landscape. I want it to sit as low as possible in landscape mode. Seeing how the Exxon rotated upwards for portrait mode was the deciding factor. Not to mention I feel better knowing that its being supported on the bottom when in landscape. But yea, i think its from the same manufacturer, and labeled differently. If you prefer portrait mode then the Exon or 900 is the way to go.
ps. There is a 750 model that is even cheaper, and made for 7" but you lose the charging ports on the back and the red/blue led lights. Need more blinking light! :silly:
My only issue is the disk on the dash. I have one for the arkon mount that only lasted a few weeks. Now the car mount wont stay because I think the HOT Texas sun warped the plastic. I can only stick the mount on the window.
Anyone have experience in these mounting disks?

Hot sun will always melt the glue on those adhesive plates. Not sure what other options are, you can use an epoxy but that is a permanent solution.
Plastidip also sells a can of there stuff, maybe you can fashion a smooth spot where the suction cup will adhere too.

I've had mine mounted for the past 3 weeks in the Hot California Sun. I will tell you that I actually keep a microfiber cloth covering that portion of the unit. I've never tried removing it and you'll see from my video that everything is stable. There's no need to remove the unit (as that would be very annoying) as I've experienced so far.
Also a note on the mounting disc, I think there's a picture of it in the OP. It's an aluminum disc that has a SUPER adhesive that is installed on your dash. Then you place the car mounts suction on top of it, press down, and there is an additional lever that sucks the air out and really locks it down. It's not going anywhere

I know .. I'm setting here just stuck on the reason why. I posted a review of a product, that I purchased, even the Nexus 7 .. that I purchased, with just me talking and showing off the product, with the only video playing in the background of a my review that I did on another product. And Youtube just said it's a "Community Guideline Strike" .. Like, Okay?!? .. Weird..
Update .. after youtube banning my account forever (which lasted about 12hours ), they found me to in compliance and released my account. So the first 2 videos are back up. I'm looking into what's up with the 3rd video..I'm guessing I'm clear to repost or whatever, but I'm waiting to hear back (drama drama drama..)

Wow. I think it has to do with you showing a vid in a vid.

The best car mount I've used...and it's under $3

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Universa...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item1c2ab9d685
So I received this today, it was selling for local sellers for $15+ but I found it from this seller for under $3 (inc shipping!), I couldn't justify the outrageous markup, and ordered from HK, came in 2 weeks. It comes with a plastic adhesive disk you can use to mount it to your dashboard. The phone holder part is connected to the mount using a really sturdy ball joint which basically allows quite a bit of freedom when adjusting the position of the phone.
I was hesitant because I've purchased other mounts before that were more expensive, and they either didn't stick as well as I liked, or were too loose, or didn't give me the flexability I wanted. For under $3 I'd figure I'd try it, and I'm glad I did. It is IMO the best mount I've used. It really sticks! On glass I had a hard time taking it off, and using the sticky disc on my dash, it's pretty much stuck there. Very low profile too! You are able to position it so I have the phone coming down over the vents.
It's very stable, I've taken it over speed bumps, and I do not have a soft riding car, and it's stuck, even some of these bumps causes my Garmin GPS mount to fall off the windshield sometimes!
I'll have to take some pictures, probably take some tomorrow and post them up.
[edit]Pictures are up
They are not the best pictures, it's really early in the morning here, taken from my garage, in my car, from the driver's seat using an DSLR and a large flash...very cumbersome...I adjusted the settings to have the flash bounce off everything as minimal as possible.
I positioned the mount so where the phone sits is in front of vents for VERY easy access to the phone, (putting it on the windshield makes it too far to use), useful for navigating, or passenger music selection. The holder (where the phone sits) can be rotated 360 degrees, so I could have the phone in portrait instead of landscape. To be able to place the phone in front of the vents was the major reason for buying this mount, it's where I want my phone to be. Oh and it doesn't block the vents (at least that much) as you can still position them, potentially an issue for passengers in the rear though...
I wonder if they have improved it. my experience with this mount in the past was it wouldn't hold the weigjt of the phone.
glad to know it's working!
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Without the adhesive disk, the mount won't really hold to the dashboard or a wooden desk with the note 2...but will attach to glass and hold and hold and hold. It holds on to the adhesive disk the same as it holds onto glass.
thank you for sharing..
Tried one of these (DIFFERENT SUCTION CUP TYPE CAR MOUNT) with my N7 and a few seconds later BAM! it hit the floor really hard. Not gonna try this again especially with my GN2!

I don't think this mount can even hold the size of the N7..pretty much the width of the Note 2 is the largest you can go with this mount...not even sure how you got a nexus 7 on it.

Lol @ nikes.
I didn't like suction cup mounts either (esp because the OEM garmin one I have falls off regularly...and I've tried others that have failed as well...and I don't like the vent ones because 1) they don't like my vents 2) they prevent the vent from being adjusted...this is the only one I've used that really works (YMMV) but for under $3 it's not much of a gamble.
would like to see pictures of this with note ii it does NOT look very secure.
it is positive hold or positive release? how much wider can it go (picture with note two and arms spread wide as possible? (ie can I put note ii in a case ?)
right now I am using a igrip (you can get them oem for $13) the nice german made ones.
its positive release (bad) but it holds nicely and the note ii in case is so wide it BECOMES a positive hold since you have to force the note ii into it to make it fit but the result is its VERY secure and I love the arm and mount.
Here is the igrip in the minivan
would love to see some pics of your note II in this holder you linked too !
Its $2.85 US. He isnt reviewing a $30 mount. If you dont like it or, dont trust it, move on.
IMO less than $3 isnt much of a gamble. If you own a Note 2 you shouldnt be sweating $3. If you are, well getting a note 2 was a much worse financial decision than buying a $3 car mount.

Not sure what you mean about positive hold or positive release...but it's a spring loaded clamp and you have to pull on it to fit the note 2 in, and it clamps on the note 2, I have a TPU case (S-curve, which is another under $3 you can find on ebay, and IMO it's the best plain TPU case i've used as well, and I've spent lots of money on cases in the past, it's got good grip, more rigid than other TPU cases, and is soft enough to absorb shocks...back on topic)

I've used plenty of expensive mounts in the past, and I live in Australia a country where stores have very poor return policies and seriously I love this mount the most because of the ways you can position it, but I only have it in one position because that's where actually want it.
Pictures are in the first post as attachments
Dakota. OFF the caffeine. Now go sit in the corner dill the DT's wear off and come back when your normal again and its not about the price its about the 3 weeks shipping time to "find out" when a couple questions can possibly save me 3 weeks waiting
Daemos. I am not sure HOW I missed that picture. VERY slick and low profile looking. Does it open any wider? ie as wide as it goes how much gap is their (I have a pretty thick case around my note II)
how does it hold up in portrait ?
positive hold is where you have to force the arms apart and it clamps down naturally on the phone IE its always trying to "squeeze" the phone.
positive release is like the one in my picture. you press a button and it snaps open you then compress the arms onto your phone. its always trying to OPEN the arms (positive release) an gears inside "lock" it onto your phone.
when you BUMP a positive hold nothing happens most times. if you bump a positive release enough to "trip" the mechanism or jump gears it "releases" your phone since its always trying to OPEN and well there goes your $650 Note II
thats the difference between positive hold and positive release. if by pull on it that means you have to OPEN the arms to get the phone in (ie its trying to close on you) thats GOOD that is positive hold.
Might have to order me a couple of these to play with I REALLY love how "low profile" it is. might be a good camera mount too !!

And yes it is Positive hold, very strong hold.
I will test the mount more thoroughly later and report back.
Looks good, and at least I know it will fit nicely in my Subaru
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
ahh good thought I was going whacky there
good, strong hold is very good be sure to see how much more "room" it has for something bigger (if thats not already the max) ie can it go half inch biggger etc..
the problem with expensive mounts is they are actually $3 mounts designed well with good quality control.
SO if you can find the cheap mount with the same good design .....
problem with my igrip I pictures is that you have to FORCE the note II into the mount with case. with plastic style cases not an issue but lately I am loving the wood bamboo cases I got. the igrip scratches them (them arm wings have plastic LIPS that you have to "get past" to put it in and take it out. this is good since that keeps the phone from falling out forward. but since I am slightly over what its designed to hold these lips TOUCH the case in insertion and remove with some force ie scratching the wood.
so I am looking for alternatives

This looks like a Chinese knockoff of an iOttie mount:
If you feel comfortable buying Chinese counterfeit stuff, then go ahead. Just letting people know.
The bad thing about the vent mounts is that, depending on the design, the phone usually blocks airflow to the driver or passenger and if the heat is on this heats up the phone generally depending on whether or not the vent can be completely shut off.

I'm 100% sure it's not a iottie design, as I've seen this exact same mount sold under different brand names (BBM in South Korea). There are times (many times esp for low cost items) where Chinese factories design the mounts/products, pitch them to different clients, who then apply their own branding for their specific market/region.
So...in the end they pay even less than what you'd pay on ebay...but charge you way more. So if you are happy getting ripped off by companies who charge lots of money for very little innovation...go for it.
To answer questions:
The width of the note 2 + my case seems to be the mounts physical limit for opening.
In portrait it holds just as good as landscape.
However, I have found if you use the mount as shown in the iottie, it seems firm, but not as stable as the position I have, but I don't plan to use it that way as the other way works better for me.

Is there a tripod mount similar to the Joby GripTight available for the Note II?

The Joby GripTight seems to be exactly what I've been looking for except it doesn't fit my Note 2
http://joby.com/smartphones/griptight-micro-stand
Is there anything available similar to this for the note 2? I basically just need something that takes minimum space and can provide steady mount & tilt for casual video recording and picture taking.
==UPDATE==
My current solution is using Joby Micro250 + Square Jellyfish Smartphone Tripod Mount
They said they are working on larger version of this micro stand. I really like this portability stand too, so I'll wait it out.

Arkon will have one too for Note 2 in a few months.
Since I already have the Joby Micro250 stand for my pocket camera, I looked around and found the Square Jellyfish Tripod Mount. So ordered it yesterday and got it today. I'm generally happy with the result, only wishing the tripod thread & screws could be aluminum and the micro250 could be parallel to the tripod mount during storage. Anyway for a hacked up solution, I'm pretty happy with it, might not even bother to upgrade when Joby comes out a version that supports Note 2.
Subbed. Interested as well. God damnit gotta stop spending money on cases, apps and the likes for this phone

That looks like a great mount. I especially like it that it has 2 tripod mount point. I would get it if I plan to mount it onto a bike or use it for anything that require a steady & sturdy mount. However, the filmsier, lighter & much cheaper Jellyfish mount seems to fit my purpose better(mostly indoor, not moving).

Tripod Mount

I was considering getting a Tripod mound for my old phone but never did. I decided, since the G2 is supposed to be such a good camera that I'd go ahead and get one and I ordered this one:
http://www.amazon.com/ARKON-Smartphone-Tripod-Adapter-MG1420/dp/B007WRBO6I/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t
It fits my G2 in the shell (from the shell/holster OEM set) perfectly. I don't think it would fit anything any wider or thicker though. I like it because it's on a ball and socket swivel to allow you to position it however you need just about it.

Well, I have a niece who competes on a competitive cheer team and now that phone cameras are getting to the point that I might be able to use it to do real (or somewhat real) videography with it to record her competitions, I wanted to do better than a shaky hand held video. Especially since the Tracking Zoom might help focus on her but catch the whole team too. Zooming in like that and trying to hold it still, even with the OIS would just be insane. Also, only being $10, it was worth the chance that it was garbage. I used it a little this weekend and I think it will work really well combined with my monopod!

Good but cheap tripod?

So, as we all know, the G4 has an amazing camera. I've never played with a DSLR camera before or any expensive camera for that matter, but with the G4 manual mode, it's not as scary. I want to mess around with manual mode and take some pictures. My favorite thing to do is set the shutter speed to 1/30 and draw some light art (I wish you can set the shutter speed to something like 60+) but this require a tripod or a tall table. Does anyone know where I can buy a cheap tripod but is good quality? and maybe length? (Amazon preferably)
Thanks!

Will that one fit the G4 or is it this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Joby-GripTight-XL-GorillaPod-Stand/dp/B00M9C9EVS
Both of them will fit. I got the smaller version and it fit my G4 pretty well even with a case on it.
The Manfrotto Pixi Mini combined with the Joby GripTight XL is a pretty versatile combination. The tripod is one solidly built and stylish piece of equipment and has a fascinating ballhead. In its closed position it can be used as a handle or an additional stabilizer when shooting video. Only minus is that you can't get it into portrait mode, though this can be achieved with an additional 90 degree ballhead. If you go with the Joby GripTight, go with the XL variant. I've got both, the smaller and XL one. The smaller is a very tight squeeze even without a case. They're the same price, so it's a no-brainer.

$14 or $28 is not the same price. What did you mean?

Sry, they (the Joby GripTight mounts, small and XL) were the same price at a retailer where I bought both of them so I thought that would be the same for Amazon as well.
