Can anyone recommend a suction cup mount that I can use in the car? It doesn't have to be made specifically for the MyTouch, I just want to be able to see the navigation while i drive instead of constantly looking down at my cup holder.
I'm in the market for one too. I would like to buy it as a christmas gift for my Boss.

i third this!
I am using this one here:
http://www.amazon.com/Holder-T-Mobi..._1_3?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1259151227&sr=8-3
It gets the job done. The suction works just fine, have had no instances of it coming off, and my phone has never come out of the mount. The only thing is, be careful with the ratcheting mechanism... when I first got mine I forced it a bit hard without pressing in the release button, and now it doesn't always stay centered and skips teeth sometimes but still works.
It has an open space in the center of the bottom so you can still connect power/audio. It holds the phone well, has rubbery foam on the side arms to grip the phone. For $10 its worth it, IMHO.
Head over to your local large electronics retailer (Best Buy, Future Shop, Radio Shacketc) and look in the GPS and IPhone sections. I bet you could also order it through Amazon.
I have seen the same mount under multiple brand names there. It is around $30 in Canada, so figure $20sh in the US. The one I have is called the "Grip-iT" by Scosche. Allows the phone to be held vertically and horizontally, has a longer flexible neck to position it and a really strong suction cup mount. Also comes with an adhesive mount disk if you have to mount it that way (some places don't allow windshield mounts).
I use it mostly in a fullsized pickup with a stiff suspension and have had no problems with it coming loose.
The one I have is this one:
http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/337/sfID2/344/productID/1593
I would stay away from this one as it is a PITA (at least in my GMC truck, which has fairly standard air vents) to mount:
http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/210/sfID2/337/productID/1594
What ever you do don't buy the cheap Bell brand mp3/pda window mount kit. They are usually found in the discount stores like Wal-Mart, K-mart, etc. The clamp swivel is loose, it can't keep the phone up at a pleasant viewing angle. If you hit a good bump the phone shoots out from the poor grip and the clamp closing by the pressure of the spring. Ugh, pure garbage and a great way to get in a car accident.
Off both of what you guys found and use, are they universal?? Meaning as in, can I swap my sapphire with my g1 or other devices. I guess I should just be asking if the width is very adjustable and or can you change the angle from portrait to landscape easily?? Thanks guys. Just doing my research before I ask for one for x-mas
I have been using this one for a few weeks now.. It's actually very sturdy and becuase its made specifically for our phones, it looks sooo much better and very smooth compared to the other universal ones.
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170391719566&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
When you order, keep in mind it's coming from china..it took around 3 weeks to receive but well worth the wait.
It's sticks to the windshield like a champ and will not budge unless you use the release tab. Highley recommended for nav pruposes.

Ok I've been looking around for a desktop charger or window mount for our phones and found nothing. But yet the other Galaxy class phones have them. Also.. I think each desktop and window mount is diffrent cause I tried the one for verizons Fascinate and it just didn't fit. So that's kinda dumb not to try to keep the mount specs the same where you'd only need to have 1 desktop charger and 1 window mount type.
Have you seen this stand?
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/SGH-I917ZKAATT-product
yay.. kinda generic thoo nice thing about one where you plug your phone into it is you don't have to worry about the port getting damaged from plugging it in and leaving it lay around. eh maybe they'll make it in time because the ATT store doesn't even carry the captivate one.
i have th Samsung one http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ET-CS01SBEGXAR . It is just OK.
A better solution is to go to Wal*Mart and in their automotive section is this stand. It works great for only $8.
I bought 2 of these in black:
elago M2 stand and dock from Amazon (link not allowed - sorry) @ $24.99 each
I had to bend the bottom prongs out just a little to handle the BodyGlove hard case, but it sits nicely either portrait or landscape. Granted, they aren't cheap but they are nicely made and generic enough that I could use them with a host of different phones.
Hmmm pretty nice find.
http://elagostore.com/elago-M2-StandDock-For-iPhone-4/M/B002OLM56K.htm
Or another choice...
I just received the Clingo stand for my wife's Focus. I like it even more than the elago stand, and it costs about the same. Go to www dot clingo dot com to see it (their price is full retail - again, I bought it through Amazon for something like $25).
This stand has a 360 degree pivoting head and MAN is the grip on the phone strong. It has a feed hole in the stand for the power/sync cord. Perfect for the nightstand while charging.
-Dave
Hmm I was looking at the clingo but some people didn't give it a good rating and explained about it not really holding their phone too well. I was looking for something portable too like
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00278ZQBQ/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=AZZOQCD4U42P0
or
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003778T8I/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A2D0IBDF2WHYZS
Key chainable one looks nice, and it looks to be a bottle opener too..
I'll probably get 2 of them to try out, because I've been sitting in the coffee shop using my cup to hold my phone up while watching podcasts.. lol
Stay away from the Crabble
The first link - I bought 2 of those a while back, and it SHOULD have been spelled "Crapple". It is nothing more than some stiff cardboard. In a couple of days the stands were virtually unusable and I ended up throwing them out. Seriously, not even a week's use.
The second one below looks interesting as a mobile stand. Still, I am really digging the Clingo stand so far, enough so that I am ordering the mobile version (they have one on the site which clings to a laptop while holding a phone). Granted, I have no long term data on how well this will stick, but it seems to be working great so far.

Here's the case:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007S9ZSGW/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00
It has all of the correct cutouts. I also like that the speaker cutout is open, as opposed to a bunch of holes like I've seen in other cases. It does add some bulk due to the fact that it can rotate 360 degrees, but it not enough that I can't slip it in my rear pant pockets. It has a loop for the stylus, as well as the magnet wake/lock. It also doesn't have the flaw that other cases have where it locks the tablet when you fold the cover back against itself. I like the white stitching and the fact that it doesn't cover the bezel, which is a deal breaker for me, since covered bezels tend to hinder you when navigating the UI. It also has deep grooves so that it doesn't slip when you have it propped open. Also, when in Portrait mode, you can only use it on the last groove. Any of the other 2 grooves can't support it. When it is on the last groove, I can use it without feeling like it's going to fall back, so it's supported very well in that aspect.
This is the same case that I have for my Blackberry Playbook, and on that back of the Playbook, it has the Blackberry Logo, which you can see through that open hole in the back so it looks nice. On the Nexus, there's no logo or anything on the back that shows through the hole, so I wish that it was covered for the Nexus version. Another small gripe would be the location of the Stylus loop.....if you have the case open and you have a stylus in it, the tab will be at a slight angle. I tested it and it doesn't take away from the sturdiness of it, just a small observation.
All in all, I'm happy with it so far. The seller refunded me the money since I was supposed to receive it last week and it got lost misplaced somewhere in shipping and ended up getting routed to Cali first before coming here, so I give him props for great customer service.
Nice review! The case looks better than I had imagined.
I got the same case delivered on Saturday. Works well. Feel a lot safer carrying it around to and from work now.
I may get the slim fit version as well at some point so it isn't quite as thick, but it does feel solid in this thing.
I notice you have a skin on the back of your nexus. Does it get in the way with the case at all, and if you pull the tab out of the case, has it mangled the skin at all on any pressure points?
I have a skin as well but am reluctant to put it on for this reason, and being that the back is rubberized i dont feel like it really needs it in the first place.
Thanks for the review. Really wish they had more color choices! I want a case that sits portrait (I read a lot) & landscape (Netflix). I already have a case for now, but I'm looking to replace it with one that does everything I want... like this one! I'll wait it out a bit & see if they come out with more colors.

Yes, I have an XtremeGuard body protector on it and it doesn't get in the way. I've taken it out of the case a few times and the protector's not bunching up. The protector's been on the Nex7 for over a week, so it's cured pretty well. I wouldn't try it on a fresh protector install. I'd give it about a week so that it sets right before putting it in a case like this.

I have a similar one bought off ebay. I'm happy with it. The only downside of that case is the circular bit at the back where it rotates. It can potentially scratch the back of the Nexus 7 so I have put a clear protective plastic on the back of the N7.
Just saw this leather case, bluetooth keyboard with stand combo (i saw the 5 or 9 dollar case with the usb cable and hated the look, don't mind spending a few bucks extra)
anyone got experience with this one?
http://www.amazon.com/CrazyOnDigita...f-20&qid=1344477981&sr=1-114&keywords=nexus+7
that image they have is real tiny online so i can't see the details but i am digging the red/white one
I just got mine this morning. Connecting is easy. But the keyboard (as I expected) is very small. If you have dainty girl like hands, you will be OK. It will take some getting used too. I've noticed the back stand that props up the monitor is pretty flimsy as well. A very slight wind can knock it over.
The case will most certainly protect the screen if you toss your tablet in a backpack or in your luggage. It's more sturdy than I anticipated in that regard.
Considering the cost is low, it's easy to overlook the minor flaws I've found so far. I'd give it 4 of 5 stars.
Can you post a pic when u have a chance I want to buy one but prefer to see the actual thing than to base it on the stock photos thanks

So I received this today, it was selling for local sellers for $15+ but I found it from this seller for under $3 (inc shipping!), I couldn't justify the outrageous markup, and ordered from HK, came in 2 weeks. It comes with a plastic adhesive disk you can use to mount it to your dashboard. The phone holder part is connected to the mount using a really sturdy ball joint which basically allows quite a bit of freedom when adjusting the position of the phone.
I was hesitant because I've purchased other mounts before that were more expensive, and they either didn't stick as well as I liked, or were too loose, or didn't give me the flexability I wanted. For under $3 I'd figure I'd try it, and I'm glad I did. It is IMO the best mount I've used. It really sticks! On glass I had a hard time taking it off, and using the sticky disc on my dash, it's pretty much stuck there. Very low profile too! You are able to position it so I have the phone coming down over the vents.
It's very stable, I've taken it over speed bumps, and I do not have a soft riding car, and it's stuck, even some of these bumps causes my Garmin GPS mount to fall off the windshield sometimes!
I'll have to take some pictures, probably take some tomorrow and post them up.
[edit]Pictures are up
They are not the best pictures, it's really early in the morning here, taken from my garage, in my car, from the driver's seat using an DSLR and a large flash...very cumbersome...I adjusted the settings to have the flash bounce off everything as minimal as possible.
I positioned the mount so where the phone sits is in front of vents for VERY easy access to the phone, (putting it on the windshield makes it too far to use), useful for navigating, or passenger music selection. The holder (where the phone sits) can be rotated 360 degrees, so I could have the phone in portrait instead of landscape. To be able to place the phone in front of the vents was the major reason for buying this mount, it's where I want my phone to be. Oh and it doesn't block the vents (at least that much) as you can still position them, potentially an issue for passengers in the rear though...
I wonder if they have improved it. my experience with this mount in the past was it wouldn't hold the weigjt of the phone.
glad to know it's working!
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Without the adhesive disk, the mount won't really hold to the dashboard or a wooden desk with the note 2...but will attach to glass and hold and hold and hold. It holds on to the adhesive disk the same as it holds onto glass.
thank you for sharing..

Lol @ nikes.
I didn't like suction cup mounts either (esp because the OEM garmin one I have falls off regularly...and I've tried others that have failed as well...and I don't like the vent ones because 1) they don't like my vents 2) they prevent the vent from being adjusted...this is the only one I've used that really works (YMMV) but for under $3 it's not much of a gamble.
would like to see pictures of this with note ii it does NOT look very secure.
it is positive hold or positive release? how much wider can it go (picture with note two and arms spread wide as possible? (ie can I put note ii in a case ?)
right now I am using a igrip (you can get them oem for $13) the nice german made ones.
its positive release (bad) but it holds nicely and the note ii in case is so wide it BECOMES a positive hold since you have to force the note ii into it to make it fit but the result is its VERY secure and I love the arm and mount.
Here is the igrip in the minivan
would love to see some pics of your note II in this holder you linked too !
Its $2.85 US. He isnt reviewing a $30 mount. If you dont like it or, dont trust it, move on.
IMO less than $3 isnt much of a gamble. If you own a Note 2 you shouldnt be sweating $3. If you are, well getting a note 2 was a much worse financial decision than buying a $3 car mount.

Not sure what you mean about positive hold or positive release...but it's a spring loaded clamp and you have to pull on it to fit the note 2 in, and it clamps on the note 2, I have a TPU case (S-curve, which is another under $3 you can find on ebay, and IMO it's the best plain TPU case i've used as well, and I've spent lots of money on cases in the past, it's got good grip, more rigid than other TPU cases, and is soft enough to absorb shocks...back on topic)

I've used plenty of expensive mounts in the past, and I live in Australia a country where stores have very poor return policies and seriously I love this mount the most because of the ways you can position it, but I only have it in one position because that's where actually want it.
Pictures are in the first post as attachments
Dakota. OFF the caffeine. Now go sit in the corner dill the DT's wear off and come back when your normal again and its not about the price its about the 3 weeks shipping time to "find out" when a couple questions can possibly save me 3 weeks waiting
Daemos. I am not sure HOW I missed that picture. VERY slick and low profile looking. Does it open any wider? ie as wide as it goes how much gap is their (I have a pretty thick case around my note II)
how does it hold up in portrait ?
positive hold is where you have to force the arms apart and it clamps down naturally on the phone IE its always trying to "squeeze" the phone.
positive release is like the one in my picture. you press a button and it snaps open you then compress the arms onto your phone. its always trying to OPEN the arms (positive release) an gears inside "lock" it onto your phone.
when you BUMP a positive hold nothing happens most times. if you bump a positive release enough to "trip" the mechanism or jump gears it "releases" your phone since its always trying to OPEN and well there goes your $650 Note II
thats the difference between positive hold and positive release. if by pull on it that means you have to OPEN the arms to get the phone in (ie its trying to close on you) thats GOOD that is positive hold.
Might have to order me a couple of these to play with I REALLY love how "low profile" it is. might be a good camera mount too !!

And yes it is Positive hold, very strong hold.
I will test the mount more thoroughly later and report back.
Looks good, and at least I know it will fit nicely in my Subaru
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
ahh good thought I was going whacky there
good, strong hold is very good be sure to see how much more "room" it has for something bigger (if thats not already the max) ie can it go half inch biggger etc..
the problem with expensive mounts is they are actually $3 mounts designed well with good quality control.
SO if you can find the cheap mount with the same good design .....
problem with my igrip I pictures is that you have to FORCE the note II into the mount with case. with plastic style cases not an issue but lately I am loving the wood bamboo cases I got. the igrip scratches them (them arm wings have plastic LIPS that you have to "get past" to put it in and take it out. this is good since that keeps the phone from falling out forward. but since I am slightly over what its designed to hold these lips TOUCH the case in insertion and remove with some force ie scratching the wood.
so I am looking for alternatives

The bad thing about the vent mounts is that, depending on the design, the phone usually blocks airflow to the driver or passenger and if the heat is on this heats up the phone generally depending on whether or not the vent can be completely shut off.

I'm 100% sure it's not a iottie design, as I've seen this exact same mount sold under different brand names (BBM in South Korea). There are times (many times esp for low cost items) where Chinese factories design the mounts/products, pitch them to different clients, who then apply their own branding for their specific market/region.
So...in the end they pay even less than what you'd pay on ebay...but charge you way more. So if you are happy getting ripped off by companies who charge lots of money for very little innovation...go for it.
To answer questions:
The width of the note 2 + my case seems to be the mounts physical limit for opening.
In portrait it holds just as good as landscape.
However, I have found if you use the mount as shown in the iottie, it seems firm, but not as stable as the position I have, but I don't plan to use it that way as the other way works better for me.
