It uses an exploit in smart actions app... Surely tweaking the exploit application will work for our phones since they are similar?

I think you have it backwards. Our exploit worked on the RAZR HD, M, I, and Photon. This one doesn't work on any of those.
Should be a step in the right direction for those stuck on an unrooted device

If we do get it working then they'll push 4.1.2 as a "maintenance" release to patch that and everyone will be like zomg must update and then lose root again. Rinse repeat.
Sent from my MotoAHD Maxx

Did somebody tried it on Atrix Hd bell JB 4.1.2?
Sent from my MB886 using xda premium

Have you guys tried Atrix 2 JB leak root method? They flash ics boot.img via fastboot first then root it with ics root tool. After that, flash it back with jb boot.img.

But, it didn't.

Dunno what's up with the security increases for this phone but this is a real challenge for us. This is getting complicated.

Was the previous exploit utilizing the only hole in the hardware or did jb/motorola just increase security that freaking much?

There's a finite amount of exploits known to hackers. New ones may be discovered at times but typically they don't like to waste them on insignificant devices. Like ours. Getting the one for ICS was big but it also covered other models of phones. So now unless someone wants to burn another exploit or we can find another way we are stuck
Sent from my MotoAHD Maxx

Don't we have the same smart actions app version preinstalled with ota jelly bean software as the RAZR/maxx have preinstalled on there ota jelly bean software so shouldn't we be able to root if we revert back to the stock version of smart actions
If somebody can confirm that we do that would be great

If you see in the updater-script in the META-INF, this is a test update from a JB 4.1.1 to another JB 4.1.1 for MB886 aka Atrix HD.
What is it?

I hope it doesn't take them too long to get this out. I think it might be a while though considering they just released an OTA update today

Wow, there is a way to regain root because most have only lost partial root. They just need to read. You might want to check out the thread called possible way of regaining root.

But that is if you have partial root. If you weren't rooted and took the OTA, this wouldn't work. Right?
I'm wondering about this myself. I just got an Atrix HD Day before yesterday and it had JB on it already when the guy at At&t handed it to me Was kinda disappointed since I was hoping to root and get rid of the bloat prior to going to JB.

I think you would have to look for similar exploits on similar Moto hardware to come up with a way to root the Atrix HD. Problem is if you visit this community or any other Atrix-centric community, the Atrix HD is pretty much abandoned for hardware with less restrictions.

i got an annoying notification on my bell atrix telling me that an update is available even if i press cancel ... I'm rooted an about to install ss3 as i understand that there is no way of installing a proper TWRP OR CWM because the bootloader is unlockable at the moment ....
So, the point of my question, would i rather be doing the official OTA or not ?! And how to keep root doing the OTA ?
HUGE Thanks

It just my idea,guys.. Do it carefully as you can brick your phone. If we have a full flash JB,I can try it for you. FYI,Atrix 2 is also locked bootloader.
Please someone try this!
