Hello,
My X8 has started to behave very strangely recently. I had Naa Jb kernel with 4.1.2 on my phone. After some time, it wouldn't respond when I pressed the power button. Since then, that button doesn't work at all. This is the lesser evil. My other problem is that when I use Naa kernel-based roms (both on naa14 and najb), when i press the home button, it reboots. On the stock rom/kernel, this problem doesn't exist. I have done nothing special to the phone recently, and I accepted that the power button doesn't work, but the strange behavior of the home button freaks me. Now what should I try? Should I try alfs kernel?
Thanks in advance!

If the Power Button does not work and the Home Button let's the Device Reboot, it seems to me, that your Power Button is constantly pressed.
A little Information:
If you press both the Power and the Home Button, your X8 is forced to Hard Reset, which means it Shuts down immediately and then it starts again.
Does it Shuts down instantly?
If you can answer this question with yes, then you should try to pick out the Power Button with a Needle or something like that.

Well, (first, thanks for your reply), the following has happened:
Although I didn't seem to get stuck in, picking it out helped me a lot. Now, the phone does not reboot, the home button works fine, but the power button stills shows no signs of accessibility. The hard reset method results in nothing, only the home button does the action it has to, but the power button still remains irresponsible. It makes me think that the physical connection is lost somewhere inside the device.
Thanks for your answer, if you can advise anything else helpful, I appreciate that!

If you say it only happens on naa then you should try alfs kernel. Alfs v09c on my x8 is very good without any battery drain and also use minicm7 rom . If minicm doesnt work well for you, then try gingerdx.

But if the Hard reset worked before, why doesn't it work now?
The Power Button seemed to work, because it did the Hard Reset.
This problem just appeared to me too... exactly the same! Is there any solution?
I changed the POWER button with the CAMERA button, i can now close the screen but i cant open it -.- . And the home button still gives me a reboot. Any advice? How can i desable it?

I can't see any similar problems on the forum, so can anyone help?
Yesterday my Kaiser's power button stopped working. In the middle of the day, not doing anything with it, installing anything or changing any settings. I took it out of my pocket and the screen was on with the power off dialog box showing (I normally keep it on standby in my pocket) The power button wouldn't put it into standby, and holding it wouldn't power it down. Intermittently the power off dialog appears on screen, if I click yes the device restarts (doesn't stay off). Everything else seems to work normally still. Soft resetting works normally. All the other buttons seem to work ok. I've tried a hard reset, but that made no difference.
Anyone else have anything like this?

I'm having the exact same problem right now. The power button definitely seems to be stuck. Can't figure out how to unstick it
About a week ago I had a similar problem.
The power button and the photo button stopped working. I couldn't turn the the device off or set it to standby.
Had to soft reset and after that it was ok again.

Well that didnt work! Any other solution?
Is it possible to unmap the power button and map that question to another button???
I have a Galaxy S i896 (Rogers captivate model), been running CM9 on it for quite some time now and I never had a problem with it.
Until recently, my lock button stopped working. Thankfully, CM9 allows me to use the volume buttons to turn on the screen, and I can lock the device from the notification bar. However, I sometimes get that screen that pops up when you long press the power button (airplane mode, screen shot, reboot etc...) but I don't know how. Also, whenever I remove and re-insert my battery, the phone turns on by itself! So it would seem that the button is stuck somehow, and once the phone is turned on, it is being ignored.
I read somewhere that this is sometimes caused by rooting the phone, however I wasn't completely sure about how true this information was, and therefore my question is: does anybody know what causes this, and how can I fix it!
Thanks!

I also have this problem with a stock ROM. The power button doesn't work and i cant even flash another ROM in recovery because of that. It only turns on when putting the charger on or replacing the battery (turns on by itself).
It seems that your power button is busted. I had the same problem, though I manage to have a way to make things alright. If youre on a CM9/C10 youre good. Download button remapper at remap the capacitive search button and make it act as a power button. So, if you're waking up the phone you will use the volume rockers and if you want to sleep and lock, use the search soft key.

This same thing happened to mine. Sadly, a handful of roms later I am positive its the button itself. It works sometimes but not all the time. Having the option to set unlock to the volume rockers has been a lifesaver in CM.
Let us know what you find out.
using volume up is a temp fix, i did it also, had no other way, and using the tap tap app also works, what bothers me is, when phone shuts it self down, wich it does a lot all my android phones from stock have done that, the sporadically shut down thingie...how will i turn it on having no power button ?
I'm on V20A, official, rooted. Sometimes I have to press power button 2-3 times for waking up the phone (sometimes not). Same for turn off screen. It's common problem? Maybe I'm pressing power button to gently, but I have not noticed this before V20A. Very annoying.
P.S - I don't have time right now to backup, do factory reset or flash CM or something, so I'm just asking.

Happens on every stock device (as far as i know). The question is if the devs are going to fix it in a custom kernel. But until then it seems like an annoying small bug.
The only solution i know is to wait and press the power button again.

I noticed you have to push button longer and everything works in the first time almost every time. But I have a bunch of other devices and I used to push power button very fast, so this bug really annoying.
So across all roms including stock and cm based my touch screen will randomly stop working and i am forced to reboot the phone via the little pin hole method unless i am missing a hardware key reset combo? Anyway the screen turns on and everything looks like it works except the fact that none of my touches register at all? How do i fix this issue? Its not a big deal when i am at home with a pin or pencil but sometimes i am away from home and cant reset it...

Well, just hold down on/off button and power up button for few seconds. You will feel a vibration. It will restart
Hold it a bit more and it will switch off with three vibrations.
I guess you should get your phone checked. It seems to me hardware problem. it could be a bug too but chances are slim!
Secondly, try clearing dalvik and cache but I am afraid it wouldnt be of help!

Just go on stock rom n relock your bootloader. Sony might ask and make sure you say nothing about rooting, custom rom or anything. Just it's not working well should be the answer.
Secondly, try volume down +power for few seconds when phone is on. Even try volume up+down +power for few seconds.
Make sure you hold these buttons simultaneously.
